Also which region blu-ray has this been tested with?

I was going to get the first trilogy box set released in the UK. I'm assuming that's the same 23.976p version. I will import a US version if that doesn't work out though.

Explanation courtesy of mok.....

FYI 23.976fps is NOT PAL. 23.976fps is what most if not all features are mastered to for video. It is not a framerate conversion from 24.0fps, it is what is called a "conform". The speed is changed by 0.1%. This has been happening for decades, and is how almost every film gets transferred to video. Many features are now even shot on video, and at 23.976fps to begin with, so there are no post-processing stages to go through. The difference is so slight it is not noticeable to anyone without direct comparison to the original speed, and hardly even then.

I literary just registered. I was reading about cinema surround sound and a JP blu-ray review, mentioning no original 5.1. And I got here somehow, just before you uploaded it. So I checked back to see if you had uploaded it yet.

If you can find another way of publicly uploading It. It would be greatly appreciated. Its probably my favorite childhood movie. I haven't seen it for ages and I only ever watched it on VHS bootleg and TV recordings. And being the first DTS film aswell I assume a lot of care was taken to take full advantage of the new technology and show of. It would be awesome to geek out with that genuine 93 Cinema experience on a new surround setup with THX ULtra 2 Subs
Hold on to your buts!

I could add an introduction if you like, not much to say though.

Cheers,
Jim

Jim, welcome to the forum.

Speaking only for myself, it's always been customary to introduce one's self on any forum I've ever signed up for.  It lets community members get to know you a little.  Maybe things have changed....I meant nothing personal against you, I just felt that the "where can I get this" first post was a little presumptuous.

My apologies if that's not how you meant it.

Star Wars Prequel Trilogy DTS CD ROMs...(First Post UPDATED 08 DEC 2012) (Released)

Just to put this out there......

These audio restorations are no different than any of the video/audio restorations and they deserve the same amount of caution, anonymity, and respect as the other projects.  I love it that people are interested in what we're doing and I'm glad it will make even a little difference in the bigger scheme of things.  It makes this a great community to be a part of.

If anyone has questions, please post them in the thread and I will do what I can to get them answered.  Everyone doing a project spends their own time, effort, and other hard earned resources to do so for the benefit of everyone in the community....some breathing room is always appreciated.

Thanks for letting me ramble a bit.

Cheers!!!

Wait, we have the entire OT?

Either way, giddieup!!!

I believe it's just the S.E. ANH & ROTJ sets.  We're missing the AOTC & ESB S.E. DTS sets at this point.

With some patience & probably some shit luck they'll show up someday......LOL

Glad to have what we've got so far....

:)

I second the giddieup!!!!

Is there a new member's guide??  Did I miss something : /

Jetrell - I got an epson 4490 display model last week from microcenter for $20 (can you believe that)?  I haven't had a chance to dig up my negatives and try it out yet.  I'll let you know how they look.  I wonder if it wouldn't be better to scan the individual frames of the various films everyone is restoring vs using a telecine.  Granted, I'm sure it would take much much MUCH longer but I imagine the quality would be better (right?).

As for my tapes, I got an ads pyro firewire dv converter years ago to capture the raw vhs footage of a show my friends and I did in college, it works pretty well, I may drag it out and try my widescreen star wars tapes.

I just got one of the Phantom Menace trailers...trailer B I believe, and would love to see that transferred as well but I obviously don't have the resources to do it myself.  Film transfers for archival purposes would be a great resource as well.  Congrats on entering the world of transfers...it can take a lot out of you.

Welcome to posting, btw.....  :)

If ANYONE has the AOTC DTS cinema discs, please send me a pm.....we could really use to have the set available for possible future preservations....I know it's part of the PT but the DTS cinema audio alone can offer some great advantages.

As I said to Ady....having an extra pair of eyes and ears is always a good thing.

Cheers

Thanks guys!  That dvdactive article was really interesting, I ended up reading the whole thing.  And I like russ's site too, it's a shame it isn't active (though I imagine keeping up with all the restoration projects is quite a task, there seems to be an overwhelming number of them).  The site I was looking for listed the transfer source for each release.  Until I saw that site I just assumed t hey all came from the original negatives, how naive I was!  It looked like a wiki if I recall.  I searched wookiepedia and didn't see it there.  Maybe it was on the OT wiki, how do I search it?  The only link I see on it is for the fan project list.

It's funny after reading on this forum about all the 35mm prints degrading (including the original, crazy!) I've decided to undertake the enormous project of scanning all of my old film negatives (my personal pics) for fear that they'll degrade too.  It's a different kind of film (right?) so it hopefully won't have.  I think I also capture my old SW vhs tapes for kicks.  I really do think there should be a repository for raw scans of each of the released mediums (or at least the out of print ones, it wouldn't be necessary for the dvds or blurays) for people to experiment with restoring.  That way if someone makes a great capture but then puts some questionable color or contrast decisions the original great capture is out there for others to work with.

I've got a trailer for the S.E. that was chopped up and being sold on eBay...by an eBay employee as separate lots.  I got the whole thing from him but it's in pieces and I don't have a "slide" attachment for my printer to scan any of them.  It would be cool to have as reference pics though as it seems the film version does differ from the LD release of the original S.E..  They look more natural than the video transfer....IMO anyways.

As for a repository...It is a cool idea...too bad there wasn't an FTP site for such things, it would probably be a better way to house them for safe access.

I know I did transfers of my 2006 VHS tapes with a Panasonic DMR-EA18...it only does 256kbps for the audio but it's better than nothing.  I also used the Panasonic to transfer each side of the LD's to their own discs for possible future restorations.  I believe I used the Japan S.E. LD's, if I'm not mistaken, including TPM.

Sounds good and exciting.

I am excited as well.  I had hoped someone here had the ESB & AOTC DTS discs or even knew someone who did because I'd like to see that audio preserved as well.  ROTS is on hold until a way is found to access the .aue files on the discs.  At this point, the only way I know how to is to have a DTS licensed theater machine....and even that's iffy.

For now, we've got a good start on some really cool stuff, and hopefully the S.E. ANH & ROTJ will be done soon as well.

How do you guys typically rip the dvds for editing, what kind of file do you rip to?  Also, is there a repository somewhere to get ripped versions of all the different releases or does everyone just rip their own?  It would be handy if there was a library of "raw" ripped files for us all to experiment with, but I'm not sure about the legality of that?

I believe most of what you'll find is LD rips and you'll need an LD machine and capture software to do that.  As for the repository idea, as far as I know, there isn't one.  While it is a good idea I don't know how and where it could be hosted with such large file sizes.

For ripping software you could probably search out DVDShrink or Decrypter.

Ok, here's where were at....

1.  I'm uploading the ISO's for borisanddoris so we can get the files to Eldonante for final processing.

2.  I got a reply from Ady today.  He is interested in adding this DTS audio to the Theatrical Reconstruction of TPM.  I mentioned to him that I'd like to see this in a Bluray format to keep the quality as high as possible.

I will update the news as soon as we get confirmation of final audio processing and torrent readiness.
