Jetrell, thanks for taking the initiative here.  I'm so glad we could all work together to preserve this track, which is really special to me.  It brings me joy knowing that others are going to get to enjoy it, especially just in time for June 11!

You are most welcome.

It was the least I could do after all the hard work you 2 put in to this.  I am excited about our forthcoming project as well.  Having such a great place like this allows combined efforts to benefit everyone and it gives projects a life all their own.

We share....because we care.

Heck, I'd even like to see a DE-Specialized prequel trilogy, especially the Episode I.  Having three audio options could be fun for comparing too: AC3 LD, DTS theatrical, and DTS-MA 6.1 from the Blu-ray.

If it is a theatrical reconstruction, then yeah, this could be a good project plan.  I guess I'll have to re-read the specs on Harmy's work.....

That's cool, so it will be SD video only?

Well.....if someone here can replicate the Theatrical version with higher quality video, that'd be great.  I personally do not have a bluray drive on my pc or laptop though I can play AVCHD files.  My interest is really archiving this audio FOR such projects because I know I'm no video editor.

If someone here is up for the challenge I know I am not the only one who would appreciate a higher quality theatrical version of TPM to sync this with when it's ready.

That's good news. I'd be excited to see, or rather, hear the results of that. I never got a chance to see TPM in theaters. I'd be curious to see how much better the DTS sounds. Would you sync it with the BD and just add the BD's audio for the extended segments, or would you make a whole custom BD-25 that was the theatrical cut or a restoration of it?

I'd like to use Adywan's Theatrical Reconstruction.  I sent him a pm but have not heard back from him as of yet.

I gave a quick listen to some of the files and they do sound nice.

Okay, I got the word from myspleen ..... and the word is GO.  I am working towards getting this uploaded tonight.

On a side note, here is another DTS soundtrack that I'd like to see archived ...

Hey gang. Would someone be so kind as to share this audio file so I can marry it to my blu ray video? Thanks!

Give me the day to rar it up as I have a few things going on and I'll get it up for folks.....

Cheers

I just wanted to say I'm sorry but I'm a little behind on this....family life and such has a wondrous way of redirecting ones path...not all bad either.

I have the files ready to go....I just need to confirm the proper content arrangement for myspleen...i.e..zip file, normal folder layout, before I begin.

Thanks to everyone for the patience on this.  It IS appreciated.  :)

Star Wars Prequel Trilogy DTS CD ROMs...(First Post UPDATED 08 DEC 2012) (Released)

With borisanddoris and ElDonante’s awesome Jurassic Park DTS Cinema audio preservation I had no trouble deciding who to go to when it came to this.  There is already a thread now going for the SE DTS CD-rom preservation so I wanted to keep this separate.

Here is what is happening so far…

1.)  borisanddoris & ElDonante have kindly agreed to participate in this PT endeavor.  I won the auction for the Phantom Menace DTS CD’s and am awaiting their arrival.

2.)  borisanddoris has kindly offered a copy of the ROTS DTS CD’s for reveiw and possible avenues of retrieving the audio.

3.)  ElDonante has offered up his audio attenuation skills for the TPM audio and hopefully EP II & III (when and if we can figure out how to access it properly).

With that said, does anyone have a copy of the AOTC DTS CD’s they’d like to share for this preservation?  It would really help out and would be greatly appreciated.

My inspiration for this project was most certainly the Jurassic Park project.  Even if just for preservation I think this project deserves to happen alongside the SE DTS audio one.

My sincerest appreciation goes out to borisanddoris & ElDonante for taking the time and sharing their resources to see this thing go for everyone’s benefit.

This plugin for winamp is ancient, and never got updated when DTS started encrypting their CD-ROMs after about 04-05, so only films prior to that with DTS tracks could be utilized.

The plugin you used: is it called APT-X100 DTS Decoder? I remember finding this the last time the '97 SE discs appeared on eBay, but as the seller was asking silly money for the discs I didn't pursue ripping methods at the time.

You are correct that the encryption that was introduced c. 2004 was never cracked, and later discs are still unrippable.

Well done for this. I can't think of a better example of a theatrical DTS soundtrack - I still remember seeing that "Digital Experience" bumper in the cinema, too!

I found this little blurb...since I'm not as knowledgeable on these matters as some I was wondering if this had to be dealt with for the new encode to work properly....thanks.  Apologies if this has already been explained and I just wasn't comprehending properly...LOL.

the APT-X100 (v1.0) plugin for WinAmp has a very serious problem with it; all but two of the channel designations are not assigned properly.
-

You'll notice the "Play Single Channel" options on the decoder are assigned 0=L, 1=R, 2=C, 3=LS, 4=RS. Anyone who has ever balanced levels on a dts 6D would know that DTS assigns their channels differently: 0=L, 1=LS, 2=C, 3=RS, 4=R. Thus, the decoder only gets two out of the five channels right: 0=L and 2=C, out of pure luck it would seem since their L,R,C,LS,RS sequence is not standard on any cinema (Dolby or Sony) equipment or even any home theater gear either for that matter. On most equipment the sequence is L,C,R,LS,RS.

Not only does this yield the wrong channel assignments in 5.1, but the down-mix option is completely useless since you will be matrixing the L and R channels together (Rt) and the C and the LS channels (Lt). Obviously this will not produce a proper 2:4 decode.

HI-Res Poster Art
Time

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone here who has the STAR WARS TRILOGY SPECIAL EDITION - LIMITED EDITION COLLECTOR'S BOX 1997 VHS SET would mind scanning and posting hi-rez images of the mini-posters that came with it?

I'd really love to add them to the Artwork archive I've got in case anyone wants them for "future" projects.  I'd also be happy if anyone had mini posters of the PT that they'd scan and post @ hi-rez too.....just in case.

Thanks again....

:)

You've created a "thread" here ststriker, not a forum...LOL.  You can ask that this thread be deleted or moved....if the forum got deleted you wouldn't even be reading this response.

Am I correct in guessing that English may not be your native language?  Even for those of us who do speak it natively...words aren't always capable of getting across what we're trying to say.....

The Laserdisc is pretty good, coming at nearly the end of the format. Why it was a Japan only release I have no idea. Not like that stopped LD retailers from importing it

I don't have one of those pesky demodulators for Dolby Digital, so have only ever heard the PCM stereo track.

For DTS:

On the consumer level, DTS is the oft-used shorthand for the DTS Coherent Acoustics codec, transportable through S/PDIF and used on DVDs and Laserdiscs. This system is the consumer version of the DTS standard, using a similar codec without needing separate DTS CD-ROM media. Both music and movie DVDs allow delivery of DTS audio tracks, but DTS was not part of the original DVD specification (1997), so early DVD players did not recognize DTS audio tracks at all. The DVD specification was revised to allow optional inclusion of DTS audio tracks. The DVD title must carry one or more primary audio tracks in AC-3 or LPCM format (in Europe, MPEG-1 Layer 2 is also an allowed primary track format). The DTS audio track, if present, can be selected by the user. Modern DVD players can now decode DTS natively with no problem, or pass it through to an external decoder. Nearly all standalone receivers and many integrated ("home theater in a box") DVD player/receivers manufactured today can decode DTS.

A small number of Laserdiscs carry DTS soundtracks. The NTSC Laserdisc format allows for either analog audio only or both analog and digital audio tracks. Laserdiscs encoded with DTS sound replace the LPCM digital audio track with the DTS soundtrack. This soundtrack is output via digital coaxial or optical audio outputs and requires an external decoder to process the bitstream. Consumers without a DTS decoder are only able to listen to the analog audio tracks on the disc.

For PC playback, many software players support the decoding of DTS. The VideoLAN project has created a decoding module for DTS called libdca (formerly libdts), which is the first open source implementation of DTS.[1]

Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 are capable of DTS decoding and output via TOSLINK or HDMI as LPCM. However, HDMI output on the Xbox 360 is only found on the "Elite" model and newer models available since mid-2007, with the release of the Falcon chipset. Also, the Xbox 360 cannot decode DTS from DTS Audio CDs. PlayStation 3 consoles can bitstream DTS over HDMI. The newer "slim" models are able to bitstream DTS-HD MA as well.

I've got the TPM laserdisc and in the right environment it is quite impressive for it's day.  Having the Cinema DTS tracks for an LD theatrical transfer would make it even better...I think.

I'd be interested, but not at that price.  Talk about gouging!

If we could get it for even the $39.95 plus shipping wouldn't it be worth it?  I know a fair number of folks may not like TPM BUT as far as having an archive of a films Cinema DTS soundtrack....that especially since TPM's didn't make the DVD or Blu releases (probably due to the fact that they aren't the original theatrical release).

I'd be willing to donate a few bucks for the cause.

Last time discs for all 3 films popped up the price was $300 (about £190). Obviously that seller knew what he had.

I'm sure if donations would help such a cause folks here would help out with what they can.  I can understand if someone owning such discs would be hesitant to share especially considering the price tag above.  They are obviously not easy to come by.

Thanks for the link.

Ebay is our best bet. I spotted several DTS CD's from a seller who didn't really know what they actually are. None of them were the SE's though.

I was tempted to ask if they had Empire, but also leery it could jack up the potential asking price...

I'd bet that MIB DTS sounds awesome too....and for that price I would have jumped on it.
