8 DVDs. That was a stupid typo :-)

DVD 1 - Star Wars with 3 audio options

DVD 2 - Star Wars from 1993 LD, 1993 LD audio mix, 2 selectable crawls (Star Wars vs. A New Hope)

DVD 3 - Empire Strikes Back 1993 LD with LD audio

DVD 4 - Return of the Jedi 1993 LD with LD audio

DVD 5 - The Making of Star Wars + SP:FX - The Empire Strikes Back

DVD 6 - Classic Creatures : Return of the Jedi + From Star Wars To Jedi : A Making of a Saga

DVD 7 - Trailers + DVD transfer of bonus features from the Definitive Collection

DVD 8 - alternate music, TV spots, transfer of all vinyls ...

So, apparently, I have discs 2, 3, and 4 of this set. I got mine from Demonoid well before it went down. I'd probably be most interested in having discs 1, 7, and 8. I know I have all the doc's listed in discs 5 & 6 but I think mine are from either the Dr. Gonzo or TR-47 set.

Do you still need a copy ? If more people want it I can put the whole 9DVD set to myspleen

9 DVD's? Hell, I've only got 3 DVD5's of this set, I had no clue there were 6 more, LOL.

Thanks for the tip, but I was able to find only covers to the trilogy and the bonus discs, but I had them already ( I completely forgot they're at the discs in the DVD-ROM sections :) ). I am personally searching ONLY for the cover of the mono-mix version. A low-res version can be found in this thread but the link to the high-res version is dead. But thanks anyway

Another set of artwork I am missing as well.

Does that set include this....

There are two known revisions of the ANH disc from this set also. The other disc has different menus and options for the mono, Dolby Stereo and matrixed 6 channel. - This seems to be the most allusive disc in this once rare fan created version of the Original Trilogy.

OK, so I don't know if these are plot holes or what (I really hope not haha)...but any here are my questions:

1) If midi-chlorian counts are highly correlated to force sensitivity, why can't sentients induce more rapid midi-chlorian replication? Like what prevents everyone in the galaxy from being force sensitive? I read somewhere on Wookiepedia that deathly injured organisms can be given a blood transplant of another for their midi-chlorians, but no force sensitivity would be passed on. Why would no force sensitivity be passed on?

2) Why did Darth Vader continue to help the emperor when he knew Padme was dead? Wasn't Padme is only motivation for being on the dark side?

3) How does "the high ground" mean Obi-Wan will have an advantage in Episode III?

Welcome to the forum.

1. Maybe Midichlorians are linked to special genetic markers of their host....or sumthin.

2. Yeah, beheading an unarmed (un-handed) Lord of the Sith, killing younglings and the council members...doesn't leave much room for sympathy.

3. Obi-wan having the "High Ground" gave him less ground to defend...it forced Anakin to expend more energy to reach him and made him over-confident which in turn leaves him as an open target....and the chance of losing his legs in the process.....and then it was done.

Star Wars Trilogy 7" 33 1/3 book and record set (Released)

OK, the books have been purchased, it was a big investment but in the end I think it will prove to be the best option for quality sake. I should receive them all no later than the end of the month.

The next part will be scanning the images in, granted I don't have a super high quality scanner, I think it should do the trick. Perhaps I can lean on some of you to help me out in restoring them to their best look possible! I'm so excited I can't wait!

I checked out Adobe's rather expensive software and I just don't have the dough for it. The next step for me to do is scan in the pages and try to record high quality lossless audio. Any suggestions as to the best way to do this would be much appreciated. Again I use a program called Spin It Again which is pretty darn good but the output is still MP3.

Onwards and upwards!

Cheers,

For audio processing, Audacity is free and would be able to do the recording and output to .wav format.

:)

anyone out there interested?

I'm interested!

I agree that $134 is expensive for that set, so I'd like to offer some advice as an individual already knee-deep in expensive equipment, materials, and time needed for a preservation project.

First, and foremost, be 100% certain of your motivation(s). Are you more intrinsically or extrinsically motivated to do this preservation project? A good question to ask yourself in making this determination is: will I do this even if nobody is interested?

Second, know that releasing a preservation project is usually a thankless affair. It's unfortunate, but most downloaders of anything you release will probably do little to demonstrate their appreciation. Big projects like Harmy's seem to get a lot of replies, but they only seem that way because the scale is huge; e.g., thousands or hundreds-of-thousands of downloads.

An OT member found this out the hard way recently and, in response, suspended his efforts. Will you do the same if 100 people download your release, but nobody leaves as much as a simple ``thanks!''? I doubt that would happen around here, but it's something for which you've to be prepared.

OT resembles a gift culture (like the Free and Open Source Software movement), but anonymous downloading corrodes the very fabric upon which such a culture is built. You need tough skin and a ratio of intrinsic:extrinsic motivation that's greater than 1 to be happy with releasing a preservation project intended for this community.

This kind of problem impacts other online communities similar to OT, but I believe OT is the best (woohoo! :-) of the lot.

(My own stance on this is unique enough to share. I'm intrinsically motivated (mostly), as I'm an archivist at heart, so I view releasing as doing something similar to a giant distributed backup. A lack of appreciation from OTers wouldn't bother me much because I'm doing my preservation projects for me and the downloaders are doing my backups for free!)

Please consider the aforementioned prior to making any decisions related to this (or future) preservation projects.

If you choose to continue, then that would be great! You'll have, at least, as many of my resources and as much of my support as I can give. I'm sure other OTers would offer the same.

Very well stated. It is a very thankless position to be in...but, I believe the pro's outweigh the con's with such efforts. My own personal experience with the DTS audio archive has been an amazing experience. With the help of this site, fellow members giving up some of their own time and experience, and the spleen I've been able to share the "back ups" with others so as to insure they are available for future projects. Some of what I've shared is already being utilized to create some cool projects.

I did it because I wanted to help make a difference, no matter how small. I will benefit, along with everyone else, from everything that was brought to the table, from everyone involved. That is where it pays off and that is what truly makes it worth it.

Cheers to ya!!!!

I hope they re-arrange their strategy and give it another go. This would be a way to unify the film restoration and archival community.

As for this thread, I am really sad to see that it went kinda south. Shame really as I thought this was a solid article about something that would be beneficial to everyone. Not that I'm surprised by what was said and who said it but still....it soiled a legitimate topic quite quickly.

Thanks for explaining. I do still have some trouble understanding why some movies that were made much earlier than Star Wars do seem to have better quality DVD releases than Star Wars.

It is probably because George Lucas considers them more like workprints than actual movies. Even the "Blade Runner" workprint they did for the 5 disc collector's set looks far nicer than the GOUT. Ridley Scott probably cares more about what made him than George Lucas does about what made him.

It's sad, for sure.

Yeah, I just saw that.

I DID send the gentleman an e-mail to see if he might consider loaning these prints for scanning. I also sent him a link to the thread. Maybe he'll sign up here and be interested, I don't know. I figured the worse he could say is no and it's better to try than to not bother because one never knows. I'm guessing we'd have to work out some kind of arrangements in a situation like this. I've never done anything like this so I'm not sure what a loan of film would actually entail.

I tried and here's to hoping something good comes out of it.

Welcome to the forum uno1971. You will find many strange and wondrous things as your time as a member lengthens. What you are searching for now truly depends on your "certain point of view"....teehee. none explained it as well as it probably can be. Variations on a theme. Keep poking around the forum, most questions have at least a few answers. It is an unfortunate but mostly welcome side effect of the passion shared here for these movies. Cheers!!!!

No problem, it's easy to fool youself into thinking you've heard something sometimes, that's why I mentioned those other lines spoken by Threepio in case you mistook those lines for that one.

That is exactly what I was doing...

I can confirm that this line IS in the "Made in Japan for U.S." & the U.S. Faces LD set. I just checked it as I'd thought I'd heard it before.

:)

The U.S. Faces LD contains the '93 remastered stereo mix which is also on the GOUT and that line is definitely not in that mix.

Edited: Mystery solved....

AOTC/ROTS VHS....are they the Theatrical releases?
Time

pittrek said:

I own only episodes 1 &2 on VHS tapes.

TPM is a P&S version of the theatrical cut.

AOTC is a P&S version of the theatrical cut except the final scene. The final wedding scene is a widescreen version of the theatrical cut.

I don't think that ROTS was released on VHS, it definitely wasn't released on VHS HERE.

As far as I know, ROTS was a PAL only release.
