They are old masters but miles better than the blurays and are the theatrical cuts

"They" are referred to HDTV or laserdisc versions?

It would be cool (to me, at least) to do a restoration project of EP1-8 with PAL laserdiscs as source (and EP9 from NTSC LD as no PAL LD was available) - EP1,2,7,8 have italian soundtrack, too...

By the way, EP6 on the PAL UK laserdisc boxset is the extended version, and include a prologue by Leonard Nimoy... IIRC the latter was not available on BD, right?

HDTV, I thought 6 was only the extended version worldwide on LD

I can tell you the NTSC LD that I have of ST: TUC is not extended.

Star Trek: Insurrection was the last LD for the series.  As for ST: The Undiscovered Country being the extended cut for PAL and have a Nimoy prologue, I do not know.  The Collectors Edition 2 DVD set was the ONLY widely available version of the Extended Cut.  It did NOT make it to Bluray .... they are all theatrical release versions.

I was not asking for them all tomorrow, just wondering how many are done.

Chill out a little!

I know JP was done and finished as i have it synced up, I was just wondering how things were going!

Anyone know if The Crow is out there, I am working on a re-edit and wondered if the original audio is about?

Don't worry, I'm not yelling ..... hence the :) .....

At this point, the ONLY ones finished that I am associated with directly are the SE Trilogy ones.  Jurassic Park was done by my inspiration for all this ..... borisanddoris and eldonante.  So that makes 4 ..... not a lot I know but this is still in the early stages of this type of archive and preservation.

I KNOW I have the DVD DTS audio for The Crow as I still own the Miramax/Dimension 2 Disc set.  I just bought the Bluray and only watched it once ..... it looks pretty nice but with the age and effects of the time there is probably only so well for it too look.

How many of these found discs are ready to go as DTS-MA?

You are kidding I hope ..... :)

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, they are decoded in to separate reels, so if the movie discs have 7 reels of .aud or .aue, they are now 7 reels of multichannel .wav files by me.  I am a mere amateur at figuring out how to accurately edit all the files together and sync them properly to video.

Now, we have some people in the forum that can do this but they are either busy with other projects, busy with life, or not interested in assisting for their own reasons.

With those things being said I don't believe they are in a place where you'd be able to take them to DTS-MA status (which I have the software for as well) unless you are capable of doing the editing needed to get them there.

Wow, I'm outta breath on that one ..... LOL.  D_J should have the files he needs for this from me within the next couple of days and as I understand it from him, he is able to do the editing and synch.

Info: The Matrix - with original theatrical color timing?

Many LD fans have said that the LD audio is superior in the way that most ac3 tracks are because of the lack of compression used. I can see that happening, but to my ears the DVD track is stellar even today and is at the LD bitrate of 384 kbp/s. What would really make this stand out is if we could somehow find the theatrical DTS discs. That would probably be stupefyingly intense...and the BDs only have remixed Dolby TrueHD.

Why would they remix it to begin with? This is becoming a irritating trend...

I presume the HD DVD's are remixes as well?

Strangely, I'm proud to say that I acquired the Matrix Trilogy DTS discs ...... maybe it was meant to be .........  :)

Just to confirm, the DTS-MA 5.1 will be sourced from what?  The LD AC3 track?  The LD DTS track?  The cinema DTS mix from Jetrell?

Jetrell, if you need me to rip/upload the DTS cinema files, I can do that.  I can't splice them together, but I can upload like a beast.

Keep in touch.

Kudos to all for helping on this project.  Very exciting indeed.

boris,

Huge thanks for the offer.  It IS appreciated greatly.  I'm sending stuff off to D_J tonite or tomorrow morning.

We are on our way .......

You have to love when people drop bombs like this and then do not return to explain or share, or to tell us he is not going to share, either way I say we just work on what we have You_Too and not try and pursue this pipe dream lol, because as you said you already asked and there was no response, so I am good with what we have.

Okay, who dropped the ball? I'm getting the audio ready on my end for receipt on yours. Did I miss something?

Thanks for keeping an eye out. The first MK is the one I really want to see happen, since the DTS LD version blows the Blu Ray track out of the water.

Might be worth keeping an eye out for The Shadow in case Universal screws up the forthcoming Blu Ray. Although there was an early full frame DVD with a full bitrate DTS track?

Do all of the CD's generally have the same sort of labels? I've only seen the Star Wars SE discs in person, and a couple of the others on Ebay.

I already HAVE The Shadow ....... ;)  And yes, all the theater DTS discs have the same look .....  :)

DTS audio preservation .... UPDATE 07 May 2015 ... Work In Progress

I am finding them through collector's.  Folks who used to be projectionists or still are at various places.  It is not an easy task and I've been quite lucky so far.  A good number of them have come at a price but it won't be passed along to folks here.

@ dvdmike,

Yes, there are only 2 DTS-ES titles in the list so far.  TPM & TWINE.

@ Silverwook,

I am keeping my fingers crossed as well.  Those 2 seem to be quite elusive at this point but I will keep trying.  One never knows.

I will be moving at the end of this month so I don't know how much time I will have to get most stuff out.  I will have a far better internet connection once I move so that will help greatly.  The other thing that can be difficult is finding a few folks who can and have the time to edit the reels together and synch them to video.  I am still a newb at it and won't be proficient for a good while.  If we can score some time here and there from folks who can it would certainly be a bonus for all of us.

:)
