Thanks for the update D_J ...... looks like folks are going to have a very cool release on this ...... Thanks to You_Too ..... too. I was trying to write that so it didn't look so weird.
:)
I checked out the first clip. The video looks a little hazy in the earth-tones and to be dnr'd a bit ....

The HD DVD and Blu-ray of the first movie use identical VC-1 tracks. Only the third movie differs and only in two parts.
The color timing difference originated on the DVD re-release, not the HD release.

This was an interesting read.

I just want to say this .....
This particular form of audio preservation isn't without it's pitfalls. How I decode the encoded stuff especially. I do not have a problem decoding audio for people to use. As for the software used for the process, it is a singular creation that had a lot of time and research put in to it to make it come this far.
The anonymity of my partner and all my fellow members is always on the forefront of my concerns so that we are all able to enjoy the spoils of the battle.
My internet connection isn't a viable solution for online transfer useage. I can however offer being able to send out a particular request already decoded so that one could make a go at a project they feel strongly about.
Please send any further interests on this matter to me in pm.
Thanks
Thanks for all your hard work Jetrell Fo in both tracking these discs down and decoding them.
I do appreciate the kind words. There are others here who endeared me to and supported this quest like borisanddoris, Eldonante, Silverwook, Capablemetal, D_J, and all the others who've posted requests and asked questions to help move things forward. They all deserve just as much if not more thanks than me.

I gather they are decoded to seperate wav's for each reel and I would just need to sync up to the Blu rays or best Picture source available, with a DTS - HD master audio encode at the end for the final preservation?
For Matrix 1, the best source is a torrent someone uploaded in RuTracker in March based off of an old HDTV capture. It therefore has unaltered color timing. It is open matte but could be cropped if necessary. I find when you do that though it comes out to be a bit zoomboxed (missing image on the top, bottom, left, and right).
Got that version and synced the original R1 DVD Dolby 5.1 mix to it.
Might be worth making 2 versions for both the HDTV and bluray versions.
Would be nice if somebody colour corrected the BR to the theatrical colour timings for a complete preservation.
How is the HD-DVD color timing presentation as compared to the Bluray/HDTV ones?

Could you send me one? Lets say the Matrix (1) and Ill have a bash at it.
Are you planning a project for this?

Channel open sir.

Neat! Can you possibly share with me said custom proggie? ;)
I will send you a pm on the matter, hope that's okay.

Maybe I sound overcritical, but may you all be so kind and discuss the "Suspiria" things in the according thread? thanks. :)
I don't believe people using Suspiria as an example were purposely avoiding the other thread but thanks for showing those interested in more serious discussion on the matter a place where they can find it. Cheers!!!
:)
The custom proggie that I use decodes into multichannel .wav files which include an LFE derived from the surrounds. They are done by reel as you know with your own experience with these discs. I believe only 1 person has received decoded files from me in this configuration. At present he has not listened to them yet as they are finalizing their video end before going in to the A/V synch stage.
He has explained to me that when they get there they will update us all on the progress.

No need to gather, they were found and decoded by myself. They do need to be spliced together and then be synched up to a video. The small issue I see is that due to the editing not being a perfect match, usually the audio is being time shifted to match the video. Since I am not an audio editing expert I cannot tell you how it might affect the quality of those sections but as a whole it's been effective.

About Suspiria: All the blu-rays look horrible thanks to oversaturation in some parts as well as very crushed whites and blacks in other parts. There is no way to bring back something that's not there.
The only version that seems to look very good is the Swedish Atlantic Film DVD. Check this comparison: http://caps-a-holic.com/vergleich.php?vergleichID=123
Unless a new version in HD is found, the only thing that could be done is to upscale that DVD.

Is this a worthy go at a restoration?

This time could you please include the THX laserdisc, DTS, and Dolby logo trailers with the movie. I remember enjoying them a great deal back in the day, and these logos, apart from the fact that they were cool, they created an anticipation for the movie, making us eager for the movie to start, just like movie trailers build up anticipation for the main movie.
I missed the logos in Jurassic Park[Rules] project!
BTW, great to know work has begun on JP2. We're looking forward to it!
I cannot speak for Andrea, nor do I wish to. It is my belief that the extras you are asking for were left of the first project so they could be added (maybe) later in an updated version. I believe that this is the same way Andrea is looking to proceed again as it keeps production time to a minimum allowing the release to be quicker. I may be entirely wrong but that is how I understood the workflow for these projects.
:)
Cool the see this one getting ready to start.
:)
The ONLY video of this I have is a 2 disc set .... got it off iOffer I believe. It contains the U.S. VHS pan/scan and a 2nd disc which is the Japan Widescreen DVD. They both show their age but they were better than nothing at the time. If we could get a solid source for a preservation it would be cool as hell.

I'll see if I can hunt you down an SE print.
S.E. prints for the Trilogy would be awesome since we have the cinema DTS ... it is worth preserving just for the historical factor. :)

Any chance the BD can be uploaded to usenet and/or filesharing?
What you might want to ask is if anyone has invites to said place, if you don't have one, so that you can download it.

Another thing, which video source did you use for most of the movie?
From 1st post in the thread .....
Video treatment:
main video parts are from two italian PAL laserdisc copies, one of them captured by two different laserdisc players; these captures are time and space aligned, then with AviSynth median scripts are overlaid to eliminate some noise and drop-outs; the english PAL laserdisc single capture is used when italian subtitles are on pictures, to use english subtitles or no subtitles at all, while the NTSC DTS laserdisc single capture is used where the italian and english PAL laserdiscs fades off at the end of a side, and fade on in the other side (italian) or disc (english); derainbowing, little noise reduction (new scrip used, less aggressive) and sharpen; no color correction, only levels are adjusted minimally to let the three sources match in saturation, brightness and contrast; upconversion from PAL 720x576 4:3 and NTSC 720x480 to 1280x720 16:9 - no frames are lost in the process, at the contrary, there are few frames in some laserdiscs and not in the others, so at the end the final video will show some frames more than the single capture.
Video tracks:
Extended Editions were on VHS, LD, and DVD (Single Disc)
http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/2469/startrek6_undiscoveredcountry.html
Per THIS article, the Bluray is the ONLY release of the Theatrical Release ever available.
Apparently I just learned more new things .... and all in one thread. LMAO
I just got done checking my Widescreen Collection DVD ... I'm confused as the scenes the review describes are there, just not the extra ones that ended up on the 2 Disc Collector's Edition (the flashback scenes on the bridge).
I was not aware that those scenes in the review were extra scenes so technically, I am actually wrong, and the LD, VHS and WS DVD are all the same.
Weird and weird ........ I learned something new today.
3 minutes of extra footage that I must've missed. Anyone know what that extra footage is? The ONLY extended version I've seen is the one on the Collector's 2 DVD Edition and those scenes (Spock, Volaris, and the memory flashbacks) are NOT on my LD.
I even have the original Widescreen Collection DVD with the red bar at the bottom of the cover art and I KNOW those scenes are not on that either. I've watched it more times than I could even remember.
