So... anyone gonna pull out the 04 dvd to compare the cropping? Moth3r made a pretty serious, and largely ignored thus far, claim that deserves addressing.

I think -1's continued ignoring of it speaks volumes.

Please stop hijacking threads.   I personally have NO way to know for sure if the film cropping matches the 2004 DVD cropping or if these projects are hoaxes.  If Moth3r is so concerned that this is all fake I'm sure there are plenty of people here who can offer reference shots of each for comparison.

Then again, maybe Moth3r's concern is part of the illusion, a hoax of a hoax ..... it's anyone's guess around here because Murphy's Law seems to be in constant play here.

Idea & Info: The Exorcist (Original Theatrical Release)

This was released at one point.  I've got it.  It's wonderful.

The mono track is just terrific too.  Made the film much more authentic, scary, and enjoyable.

I should say it's not without faults: the person who did this did add their own credit to the titles and credits in a way I find a bit obtrusive.

They did restore the red WB logo too...which is a HUGE plus in my book.

Sad to know that the Dr. slapped his name all over copyrighted material like that.  Seems he's got a bit of an ego.  It may cost him someday if he isn't careful.

Halloween [spoRv] *BD-25 RELEASED*

Speaking for myself only, I believe every popular film like this has longtime fans, just like "Star Wars", who would just want to have well done releases so that those longtime & casual fans can get the product they like and want.  With all the double dipping studios do anyways, there is NO real reason they cannot do it all at once.  Regardless of how the studios paint it ........ :)

Hey, Frink, lay off. I'm up for Myspleen and torrents all at the same time, and we all know what you're into at the same time... lol

No, but seriously - wtf was he talking about?

Frink is the ointment fly and I'm not sure there is a swatter big enough to keep him at bay ..... unless Bigger Boot came with that swatter.

LOL

Actually that is incorrect. I have viewed two non-faded 35mm prints of ESB in the past month, and Hoth is blue, and white and grey. The grade on the original 35mm release was all over the place. Some scenes are quite blue.

It would be impossible to know the correct colours from pink-faded prints, you can do a reasonable job restoring them so that they look 'good', but the original colour balance is unknowable without a non-faded print as reference. So it will look great, but may not be original timing.

These images look really good, great work on restoring colour from the lost channles,  but the colour will be somewhat arbitrary and not what it would have been at release.

Not to take anything away from what is great work, just letting any anal archivists know that the colours chosen for this release may not be all that close to the original timing.

poita,

I certainly appreciate your voice on the matter.  I'm sure there aren't a huge number of us who've ever even had access to a non-faded print let alone had the wonderful experience of watching one.

I cannot speak for anyone else on this matter but I am a noob in all this.  I figured from the beginning we would not be getting final color grading shots until the projects are done.  I am however happy to see the richness available in these prints.  It tells me that a lot more can be accomplished than what the GOUT could ever offer.

That said, maybe folks doing projects need caveats about such things, so people don't get the wrong idea.

I am excited no matter what.  I LOVE the look of film compared to digital and these basic shots show why it's so important to save these prints.

:)

I LOVE looking at these.  It makes it clear that there IS a way to save these fabulous movies and have their grace returned to them for fans to enjoy.

The shot of the Star Destroyers is freeking awesome.  You wouldn't have a larger version one could use as a desktop background, would you?

:)

Wasn't LD Dolby AC-3 limited to 384 kb/s? If so, the DVD's 448 kb/s track would probably sound better if corrected for the volume discrepancy.

I was referring more to DTS audio that was mixed for the actual film print.  I would guess that it's dynamic range "might" be better than those created to fit the home viewing experience.

The LD is supposed to have DD audio with slightly better dynamic range, though I doubt by much and may or may not have better timing.

I believe Hairy_hen said that the audio is pretty much identical across releases, and the reason some find it different is just because they play it back at different volume levels.

I wonder how the theatrical DTS compares to this then?

As a few of you know I won a JSC set on eBay.  I got it for $87.00 including shipping.

Cool thing is, ANH & ROTJ are still sealed.

I am guessing from what I've read here that this is a great set to have.  Can I now get rid of my DC set?

Thanks

IMO, it's better than the DC, so I'd say yes.

Still, it might be worthwhile to keep...

They are from different masters, correct?

Well, to the best of my knowledge...

ANH: Same master as Technidisc-pressed SWE LD, but DVNR'd

TESB: Same master as JSC/SWE, but DVNR'd

ROTJ: Same master as JSC/SWE, but DVNR'd

So this set carries no DVNR?  LOL
