Correct me if I am wrong but isn't he just showing what can be done, not a final color fix? I mean I thought from what I have been seeing he is pretty much showing what can be done here with the different sources for reference.
I mean color correcting is so darn touchy, not everyone is going to like all the changes, heck we see this in some of our releases, you just have to try and please most lol, either way this program is a great little tool and thanks a ton for sharing it.
I agree with you on this. I was merely being curious since I personally don't know as much about these things ..... I figure asking questions is far better than just jumping the gun and going ape over something trivial, LOL.

I think a modern human being can watch Fantasia and understand it is a product of its time, and anyone that can't, well the edited version exists from Disney.
Whitewashing these scenes now seems far more offensive to me than watching it with the scenes intact.
My 5 year old would not understand something like that.
I do agree with you though that whitewashing would be, in and of itself, still pretty offensive when taken in the broadest context. Cropping probably would make better sense in that regard.
I'd just really like to be able to watch this new and improved copy of the film with my kid, in a way that we can all just sit back and enjoy it. We can always pop in the Blu-ray, of course, which I suppose it what we'll have to do.
This would be the perfect way to teach your child the difference. My daughter and I have a lot of the same interests but I try to never miss a chance at showing her things that "were" and explaining why they "aren't" anymore.
I am happy to know that poita understands film history with the passion he does and wouldn't want it any other way. Although history may be written by the victors, its true path should never be forgotten ..... it shows how we came to be what we are in contrast to what we once were. Good progress is good. Preservation of the truth is what makes that possible and exciting.
:)
I noticed that your regrade pictures looked brighter than the 35mm, is that due to the Bluray video itself or a personal choice?
Hard Drives are really cheap these days too and as far as I'm concerned, it's the best way to go if you're not looking to burn custom blurays.
You can take an external drive over to a friends house that has a bluray player or pc and still be able to watch it in the highest quality.
Just my $0.02 on the matter.

It looks as if crackle uses secure rtmp so I am unsure as to how one might accomplish this but it does seem doable. Someone with more savvy than me will need to help out.

Movies, like Music nowadays, really doesn't hold the heart for me that they once used to. Movies should make you want to go to the theater for the escape ..... and allow you to come out refreshed and excited. This is certainly not the case these days unless there is a 35mm/70mm screening of an older movie that so many people love and miss.
Remakes and re-imaginings are a waste of time and money especially since the blood, sweat, and tears work of physical effects work has been slaughtered by CGI and the likes. I miss the days of imagination and wonder that took me to another place as a kid and allowed me to take that home and dream. Nowadays, it's mostly dread.
:(
.... ooooops. I guess I fudged this post. Sorry, I thought I saw a more current date on the post.
:(
The "faith" is kept here. :) I've been able to see all the work you have put in and listen to you comment on what you've done via the videos. I am glad to have even been a part of the audience watching you do what you do.
I'm excited for sure and can't wait to see what happens next.
Thanks Mike!!!
Shawn
I think it's great that there will be another version to add to the collection. I am eagerly awaiting your results with this. I've enjoyed PDB n Doombot's release of the scan they had done. The film look was very cool.
Maybe in the future we'll get JP 2 & 3 in a film scan version as well. It would make for a great little box set especially since we have the cinema DTS to go with them.
Cheers!!!!

Thought it was Austrian.

I like the idea, but the best source material for this project would be the theatrical cut itself, which was aired on Austrian TV in HD in 2012.
I screwed it up didn't I? LOL
Sorry
Hi all!
On Saturdays September 13th, 20th, and 27th the National Audio Visual Conservation Center of the Library of Congress in Culpeper, VA will be playing the Original Star Wars Trilogy (Special Edition) on 35mm film. Admission is free. This is a rare experience. Come see Star Wars again for the first time on 35mm.

Anyone got any confirmation on this happening?
I'm very interested to find out where this is at too. Has anyone been able to come across that Australian HDTV broadcast of the Theatrical TPM?
Another fine film .... Amy Schumer's Train Wreck. Absolutely human in every sense of the word. I'm sure this one is getting lost on the masses. I loved it.
I miss films that mean something.

Guys, hey. I know there is that other thread, but the edited OP implies that invites are no longer being given out left and right.
I've been looking for this release on rutracker, among other things, but I can't find it.
If the only place it's available is myspleen then I suppose I'm asking for an invite.
EDIT: thank you
You will find the invite thread in off-topic. Please go there so as not to clutter up this thread. Thank you.

Wow, RowMan! I don't think I've seen you around in a long time. Where have you been hiding? :)
Not hiding. Just life, wife, kids (2 now), and less free time than I used to have. I still follow a couple of projects here, though. Nice to know I'm remembered. (sniffle)
It is great to see you pop in here. Glad to know this place is still on your radar with all you have going on. I hope all is going well RowMan.

I've spent extensive time on this looking at those, it appears that the larger files on RUtracker were actually completed with direct instructions from Wookiegroomer, so can be assumed to be near identical to his releases, though with different initial encodes, so both are generation two sources derived from the two initial broadcast releases.
Actually now I think about it I remember specifically looking through all those files and more on rutracker a year or so ago.
Has anyone gone through an noted the differences of the ones posted at RUtracker? Knowing the differences between them, i.e. source and version, might help sort things better.

Can the HDnet version be located fairly easily? I'd love to check it out.
Yea this would be cool to at least see, and definitely not sporv, the actual HDnet file.
What DJ said ................ :)

I really hope you folks coming here for invites aren't going to be hit n runners there. That junk really grinds my gears.
Why do we still entertain these requests in the project threads? It clogs them up.

I downloaded your file from usenet, and apparently there are parts missing.
The parts you have uploaded only allow me to view the first 30 minutes of the film. Will you upload the rest later?
Did you see this?
Darth Mallwalker said:
It's only the first side or first reel or somesuch, so you don't see the shrinks, from poita's HLD-X9.

There's been a resurgence of this old, allegedly fullscreen DVD release of the Toho cut of Godzilla 2000: Millennium on eBay recently. I should be getting one of these in the mail sooner or later. If the color timing is anything different from the R2 or the '08 HD version, I'll share my findings.
There's also a Polish PAL DVD of the Mike Schlesinger cut out there that uses the same transfer as the U.S. VHS release with a redone TV safe title card. I also need to track down a better source for the screener master of the U.S. theatrical version.
I know I have a fullscreen vhs version and the US DVD release. The colors on the vhs are a bit washed out to me. I also have a Japan DVD release.
I am looking into purchasing an affordable high end projector for my laserdisc machine for home use. I welcome knowledgeable suggestions.
Thanks

I'm not sure if it's somewhere in the 28 pages of posts, but can I have a download link for this version of the film? I do have an actual VHS tape that was given to me by my uncle, but I'd love to have the Widescreen edition of the film.
If you need to see my VHS copy it'll be a few weeks before I can actually dig it out of storage
No. There are no download links in this thread and you must go here ....
to try and get an invite. Good luck ........
