The "101 Ways to Improve Off-Topic" Thread
Time

I think it would be nice if there was at least 1 active mod in off-topic at any one given time. We have seasoned members that can be just as pig-headed as new ones who can antagonize others just as equally as well.

I know off-topic is what it is but it doesn’t mean anyone should be allowed to be devoid of manners and respect if they expect the same in return.

I like how he states “I’m bigger than all of you” and then follows it up with a great big pronouncement of Frink’s lifetime ban.

Why would anyone in their wrong mind want to ban Frink for life? I mean come on, Frink is the sweetest guy to lay type on the internet … doesn’t that count for anything these days?

Preserving DTS LaserDisc tracks, specifically Jurassic Park

The slight distortions on the dialogs, I mentioned several times here and which for reasons unknown, virtually no ones seems to care, are shared by at least the AC3 and DTS LDs and the Cinema DTS of Jurassic Park. Hence, slightly distorted dialogs or not, this is most probably how Jurassic Park was simply meant to sound back in 1993.

Still more than 23 years later, there seem to be still mysteries unsolved about Jurassic Park.

Regarding Jurassic Park showing up on eBay: patience! Got two copies of it myself at a surprisingly reasonable price (at least compared to highly collectables like “Fight Club”). 😉

I think you underestimate the love and respect people here have for Jurassic Park. Actually having a print with cinema DTS to synch it to says a lot about how we feel. Since the slightly distorted dialog is present in more than one format I would conclude that it was there because it is probably supposed to be there.

Prayer requests, Anyone?
Time

I’m glad to hear it. As an agnostic myself, I level no judgement against anyone’s beliefs, even if I may find them awkward. We all have a path to follow. We have a number of good cop/bad cop members here and considering it’s in off-topic I was worried this may be yet another attempt to make light of other members that may not know they are being made fun of.

Thanks for the clarification.

Good thoughts sent to all of you.

^One should not use uTorrent, as it is filled with adware. I recommend qBittorrent, which was made to be a direct alternative to uTorrent because of said adware.

My suggestion was to aid the person in understand torrenting, not to suggest an actual torrent client for use.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Long story. When I tried to download the Star Wars Despecialized Edition at one of the popular torrent sites, it gave my computer a virus.

Yeah, what towne32 said. I hate seeing people blame a product when they just did it wrong. So, I would suggest using a program that doesn’t have adware or malware in it (PM me for info), and don’t go to one of those previously mentioned virus sites. When it comes to finding stuff on the internet, you’ve got to be smart about what you click on. But, I don’t know your circumstances, and if you’re set on not using torrents, then that’s your decision.

Agreed. Some folks may not be as knowledgeable about torrenting, have one bad experience due to not being informed properly, and then it’s all over. Try googling uTorrent. It should give you a good read on the what and how so as not to fall victim to some nameless entity looking for your personal info.

What would be the protocol for something like that.
If anyone of us spots a sale of complete reels to a film of interest, whom, here, should we contact?

The definition of “protocol” here can sometimes be anything the person using the term seems to want it to mean depending on their purpose for using the word and to whom the word is being referred in relation to the other persons purpose who is doing the said referring.

It’s an old jedi mind trick of sorts.
