Help Wanted: Requesting MySpleen invite (or other rules-abiding help) for rare antique theatrical AOTC TS by Centropy

FOUND. So what I wanted is available on noneinc’s site and on MySpleen. I have finished downloading via HTTP, so enjoy the NFO rendering and the full-sized screenshots.

It comes in three SVCD bin/cue images about 800 MB each. To play one, mount it with Alcohol 120%, UltraISO, or somesuch, and open with VLC (other media players not tested). When mounted, you can extract the MPEG files and splice them with something like MKVToolNix, ffmpeg, or HandBrake.

Linux solution: (1, 2)
OS X solution

Video: MPEG-2 480x576 25fps (PAL SVCD spec.)
Audio: MPEG-1 Audio Layer II stereo (left and right tracks sound identical) 44100 Hz 224 kb/s
Subtitles: English (forced) from the 35mm print

Original post

Hello. I would like to get the package named Star.Wars.Episode.II.Attack.of.the.Clones.SVCD-Centropy (preview images), which will undoubtedly be the best source of the theatrical 35mm version of AOTC until some good citizen acquires and digitizes a film can for us.

As most of you probably know, the 35mm version, which was the one seen in all but a few digital-projector-equipped theaters, has several differences from the home media versions, including a few more speeders in the shot in which Obi-Wan catches Anakin’s lightsaber, Natalie Portman’s despised “To be angry is to be human” and “Yes!” lines, and Anakin’s mechanical arm barely twitching in the end (more info; I am not sure how or whether the digital theatrical version differs from the film version, except that it is digital, although Chris Gould seems to indicate that the “digital and DVD” versions are the same).

I am not the biggest fan of AOTC or of the prequels, but I am drawn to the idea of possessing the captured theatrical memory on my hard disk, very curious to see these rare attributes in motion, and especially interested in seeing the sadly twitching robotic hand which I vaguely remember from my single theatrical viewing as a whippersnapper nearly sixteen years ago.

TL;DR: Is the AOTC TS (Star.Wars.Episode.II.Attack.of.the.Clones.SVCD-Centropy) on MySpleen? If so, please give me an invite, in which case I shall seed equitably; if not, please give me an appropriately vague hint or PM me with assistance.

Well, it’s generally poor form to start a thread about this and make your first post on your first day of registration one that begs for a myspleen invite.

I generally do not give myspleen invites to new users, since they are almost 100% of the time hit-and-runners. But would give you one because of your familiarity with the 35mm differences and, more importantly, your username.

However, myspleen only has the vcd, not the SVCD. If you manage to find that, though, it would be nice to have on the spleen. Perhaps someone with a usenet account that has absurdly good retention can find it?

To anybody who has this “release” - Is there a way how to extract the bin files? I have tried both downloading them from myspleen and from a different site, and in both cases I ended up with identical files which can’t be extracted by any software I have

Think I used some DVD authoring software (Toast) which permitted me to reverse back into the file streams, by making the .cue into a OS mountable .img.
Ok, Here is a video guide which seems similar to the process:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvKpQHJ2bhg “converting bin/cue files in mac osx with toast”
Which should produce the following:
ctp-ep2A_AVSEQ01.mpg dated Jul 24, 2002 7:44am
ctp-ep2B_AVSEQ01.mpg dated July 24, 2002 7:59am
ctp-ep2C_AVSEQ01.mpg dated July 24, 2002 8:08am
Remember also encountering issues with the audio as it was mpg version 1, as the process of going from bin/cue to img/dvd was being investigated. Maybe it was the above files come out of the unarchiving as .mp1s and I renamed them to .mpg to get software to recognize them.

You should be able to mount the cue file with standard drive emulators. Then just browse the drive and copy the mpegs over.

I would be very grateful regardless of the best version available there. Candidly, although I am a “Star Wars” fan, I rarely feel the urge to discuss fiction or entertainment. The only thing that sparked me to look for this was the release of the 35mm “Star Wars” restoration, which I didn’t even know occurred until yesterday and am now downloading with public trackers.

However, I will certainly not be a hit-and-runner of MySpleen, but will seed this release to a ratio of at least two unless no peers show up. I will sign up using the same name that I have here (and am just now registered on Spleen Forums), so presumably you should be able to view my share ratio; if not, it is no trouble for me to PM you proof.

I checked the popular Usenet binary search engine, disregarding age, and found nothing. There is a (dead) public torrent, but it’s (presumably hard) SWESUBbed.

NZBKing has none’s indexed. I found it using search string “Attack of the Clones Centropy”.
Looks to be identical content as 'spleen torrent. (I compared CRC values of 3rd disc .bin & .cue)
Dunno if they’re strictly compliant with SVCD standard, but resolution is 480x576 (more than VCD)

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Was it “Star Wars Episode II - Attack Of The Clones MED SWESUB-XVID”?

If so, I have a copy of that and it’s just the regular home video version.

I used vcdrip command from GNU VCDImager software package
to rip the avseq01.mpg file from the .bin image.
(0.6.2 happens to be the version installed on that ten-year-old box.
I’m sure newer versions are available, but I seem to recall trouble when I tried compiling them)

No, but I found an alternate name of it; it’s a DVDRip in three SVCD images like Centropy’s TS, which made me hope that it was a TS. The Centropy version was also on the eDonkey network a decade ago, but I couldn’t find a link and am certain nobody is seeding. No AOTC TS seems to be available on public servers or trackers (edit: except the NZB indicated by Darth Mallwalker, which is now 1744 days old).

Well, I did send you an invite earlier. So there’s that option.

Thank you very much for that. I may have found the SVCD version outside of MySpleen after all! (The hint is in the filenames specified by the NZB which DarthMallwalker found [edit: hell, the operative string is SWE2AotCctp].) The server is now delivering it to me on and off at 10 KiB/s (second edit: it’s stopped cutting out and is delivering 156 KiB/s). Whatever happens, I will give back to MySpleen, either by seeding the VCD mentioned earlier or by sharing this 2.5 GiB version if it finishes, is not password-protected, and is better than what the Spleen has. (It; that is, the original ~2.5 GiB SVCD; is on MySpleen.)

Any chance that you could post a few screenshots on here as well please? I’m curious about the quality.

I will sure update my original post, probably with a link to a new better-titled topic, and share some screenshots. ETA is T plus three hours (28 Mar 2016 0320 EST) at the earliest (edit: my download speed is inconsistent; will probably be 0600 or later).

'spleen is not VCD. 'spleen is 480x576.
'spleen is identical to none’s website, if that’s what you’re downloading.
But don’t take my word for it… just remember you heard it here first 😃

Very good, then I’ll seed that one for a little while in exchange for towne32’s invite. It just finished via none’s site, so I will put my full-sized screenshots in the original post for JayArgonaut.

Much obliged.

It looks quite decent, all things considered. If only they’d managed to capture the entire aspect ratio…

Q: What’s the audio like? Is it fully mixed stereo? There’s a reason why I’m asking.

God did that movie suck. Whoever shot this cam must have been a real pro because I wouldn’t have been able to keep the camera still out of a combination of compulsive laughter and facepalming.

I don’t know if anyone else is having difficulties getting those mpg files to play under Windows 7. I downloaded this from the Spleen and mounted the bin/cue files and copied the mpg files over to my desktop, but no video player I have (WMP, VLC, MPC-HD) will recognize the files. I downloaded a convertor program and it doesn’t recognize them either. Any idea what I’m doing wrong or a suggestion? Do I need a special codec and if so, which one? Any help would be appreciated.

I used UltraISO to open the .bin files and extracted them as MPEG files. From there, all you have to do is throw the first MPEG in MKVToolNix and append the other two to that first one and voila.

Thanks! I’ll try that and report back.

Edit: That worked! Thanks!

UltraISO? Thanks, I didn’t try that one yet.
