STAR WARS - Episode I : The Ancient Lore [TPM Remade]
Time

I really love Jar Jar’s voice in that preview, save for the sound he makes after Qui-Gonn lets his tongue go. However, I’m not a fan of how you handled Sebulba’s death. I think it’s a good idea that he dies, but the slowing down and speeding up are really jarring. I also don’t like Palpatine’s voice, it’s really obvious that it was just reversed, and his speech goes on too long. It might work better if he pops up and says;

“The Jedi have a strong presence with them. They have come across someone special. That force-sensitive has a future with us, bring him and kill the rest.”

And then have Maul turn away with his binoculars.

Hope I don’t come across too negative, I AM looking forward to this.

You’re completely redubbing Anakin? That’s awesome!

In the dinner scene, I think you should really find a way to cut “I don’t want to you to race it’s awful I die every time you do it,” because that line is Tommy Wiseau levels of bad.

I don’t know how I feel about the montage of the clone army. I feel like when you start showing the clones, you shouldn’t cut back to the senate. If it’s necessary to make the timing work, I think you should at least put clapping audio when you cut to those 2 Vurk.

I think it’s an insanely unique idea, but you would have to make sure it’s a very gradual change. It also might be hard to pull off convincingly learning new words. One thing I would definitely recommend doing is watching videos of non-native speakers trying to speak English and trying to match their cadence. Often there will be pauses in the middle of a sentence to think out what they’re going to say next.

Well I plan on keeping those, more like what Finn says “have a boyfriend? Cute boyfriend?” Or maz saying “where’s my boyfriend!” Also I may trim the “Who’s in charge now phasma” a little

Idk, I liked the ‘cute boyfriend’ joke, but the others I can understand. Just please for the love of god leave Chewie talking to the rebel doctor, I thought that bit was hilarious.

Yeah, Scott, please do give your opinions, but you’re stating them as if they’re fact or demands. Like when you said “Personally, I like the idea of Anakin destroying the Droid Control Ship at such a young age, a feat which demonstrates his abilities as a pilot,” that’s fine, but for every other criticism you’re just going “no, don’t do that, do this.”

I’m getting more excited for the eventual fanedits than I ever got for the official movie.

Me too, I want to see other peoples’ takes on the movie

Yeah, I think that especially with the director’s cut that I’m pretty sure will be coming out, this movie has the potential to be fan-edited into something coherent.

Lex was awful casting, Eisenberg was way too over-the-top. I think they were trying for a Ledger Joker type, but they completely botched it. Doomsday was stupid, it makes it so that there’s nobody that the JL can fight now. Doomsday is supposed to be the top dog, but 3 of them can take him out, nobody will be a match for a full Justice League. If this movie had Bryan Cranston as Lex, and him revealing his mech suit be the climax rather than Doomsday, then I’d probably like it a lot more.

That being said, I loved the soundtrack. I also think that Lex did have some good moments, like the Granny’s Peach Tea bombing. That came totally out of left-field and I loved it, planting the bomb in that guys wheelchair was a totally Lex thing to do.

Can someone animate this Tusken village to be burning, with maybe a silhouette of AotC Anakin looking at it.

Maybe in this pose.

So I tried it myself, but I have no idea how to do proper lighting effects, so it looks like shit right now. I’ve also got to redo the black bars so that his legs are covered.

Also, I’d like to call the upcoming “What could you hate enough to destroy me?” moment.

While that was a great line, I really hope that Vader and Maul never cross paths. It would be way too fan-servicey. I just want Maul to track down Obi-Wan or Sidious and promptly get his ass handed to him so we can be rid of him.

I would agree. I liked the film overall, to the point where I personally wouldn’t find doing an edit for myself worth it, but that “In the hands of your father… Han Solo.” felt weird to me even upon my first viewing in the theater. I think cutting the line after “your father” would be wise.

I agree that the line is a bit wonky. And I also don’t tend to want (or want to make) fanedited films for things that I consider nitpicking. It’s going to be weird having a Star Wars film that I watch by taking the pressed disc out of its official packaging and navigate its menu to play. But I’ll still be curious to see what people come up with for more substantial edits.

But as for the Kylo Ren “clunky exposition”, I don’t think it should be cut at all. While it’s not award winning dialogue (most of the Star Wars franchise is not), it’s the first suggestion that he comes from the other side and is not exactly a peer with those he is shown aligned with. Could be smoother but shouldn’t be cut, IMO. It’s easy to think it’s unnecessary when you go into the theater knowing that Ren is probably or definitely Han and Leia’s kid. But for everyone else, it teases his background.

I guess that’s fair. I did have it spoiled for me, so that might be why it felt redundant.

The Force Awakens : Fan Edit Ideas

There’s some dialogue throughout the film regarding Kylo Ren that I think would be wise to cut. Particularly when he’s talking to Lor San Tekka.

“Look how old you’ve become”

“Something far worse has happened to you”

“You know what I’ve come for”

That’s all well and good, but his responses after that are kinda cringeworthy, in my opinion.

“I know where you come from, before you called yourself Kylo Ren”

“The First Order rose from the Dark Side, you did not”

“You can not deny the truth that is your family”

It all seems like clunky exposition to me.

I’d also trim when Snoke says “the droid we seek is on the Millenium Falcon, in the hands of your father… Han Solo”. I’d cut it right after he says “your father”, the Han Solo part seems clunky.

Neeson, if you do mean after Windu is killed, then that is kinda what I was going for. I wanted to push the idea that Anakin was going along with Palpatine’s shit so he could save Padme. That’s why I cut it so Palpatine says;

“Become my apprentice, learn to use the dark side of the force” and Anakin responds with

“Just help me save Padme’s life”.

Because the way I see it, there’s 2 different angles that Anakin’s downfall can be taken. You can emphasize him wanting to save Padme, which is what I intended, or emphasize him distrusting the council. In the original, it’s a mix of both, and it ends up muddled.
