Moving over to this thread just in case.

Seriously, I am growing very concerned about the improvements in computers and computer intelligence. It is not out of the realm of possibility that computers will able to replace every human at every job. Imagine what it will do to the economy if humans are no long employable? What if computers do take over. I’m serious.

Universal basic income. It’s going to happen. It should happen way sooner than it’s going to though, and it’s going to carry a sigma similar to welfare for far too long after it’s implemented, too.

communism?

No, not at all. And frankly, this kind of misunderstanding frustrates me because it happens too often. Not every social program is Communism—universal healthcare isn’t Communism, free college isn’t Communism, universal basic income isn’t Communism. They may or may not be good ideas, but I wish people would argue about that rather than throwing out “sounds like Communism to me!” However, I trust that you were genuinely asking, and not just throwing the word out as a “gotcha,” so I’m going to respond.

Universal basic income, if it were implemented, would serve only as a safety net. It would be a way for the Government to say “here is a bit of money so that you can meet the basic standards of living; you’ll have food and water, and you’ll have shelter, now go do with your life what you will.” This is in no way the complete abolition of private property that Communism is. Private property still exists, and capitalism is still very much in place.

No, not Communism.

Not in America, it’s not. I’m sure the rest of the developed world will be much more reasonable about it; but not here in the good old US of A, where paying out-of-pocket for your right to life is still acceptable. I won’t say any more, because then it’d have to be posted in the politics thread.

I’ll say I do share Warbler’s concern about automation, and I’d even extend it to job availability in general.

I prefer to link to an article and at least give people a chance to decide for themselves, so here you go Warb.

Kenny Holloway, vice president of the Biloxi School Board said, “There were complaints about it. There is some language in the book that makes people uncomfortable, and we can teach the same lesson with other books.

You know what makes me more uncomfortable? The fact that the word was ever used at all, now that makes me uncomfortable. Can’t fault the book.

Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

I decided to watch the scenes and compare. Make of this what you will.

Revenge of the Sith - Separatist slaughter scene

 • B1 battle droid cut in half

 • 2 Nemoidians sliced across the abdomen

 • 1 B1 cut in half

 • 1 Separatist stabbed

 • 1 B1 chopped down

 • 1 Nemoidian collapses from phantom wound

 • 1 Separatist slashed across the back

 • 1 Separatist slashed across the chest

 • 1 Separatist sliced under arm

 • 1 Geonosian chopped in half

 • 1 Nemoidian sliced across chest

 • 1 B1 chopped in two

 • 1 Nemoidian slashed across chest

 • 1 B1 killed by deflected blaster bolt

 • Nute Gunray slashed across chest

Total deaths: 15?

Kill variety: Poor

Empathy felt for victims: None (they’re cheesy comic-book villains)

CGI deaths: Yes

Rogue One - Rebel slaughter scene

 • 2 to 3 Rebels killed by deflect blaster bolts

 • 1 Rebel suspended in the air and chopped across the stomach

 • 1 Rebel killed by deflected blaster bolt

 • 4 Rebels force(😛)fully disarmed

 • 2 Rebels killed by saber swipes

 • 1 Rebel force choked and thrown into a wall

 • 1 Rebel stabbed through door

I think that Pence is as far to the alt-right as a politician can possibly be. He would likely bring a Christian fundamentalism to the white house, so if you want the Bible to be the law of the land, he’s your man.

I don’t think that necessarily makes him alt-right, though. He’s definitely very far right, and a more than a bit of a theocrat, but I can’t recall him doing or saying anything that makes me think he’s a white nationalist, neo-Nazi, skinhead, Klansman etc. I think the closest you could get, and it seems like a bit of a stretch to me, is him not condemning the travel ban.

Most people I know have either never seen it or saw it once and don’t really remember it that well.

I fall into that second category.

I don’t know why people are acting so shocked that the new Bladerunner is flopping. It’s almost three hours long and is a sequel to a standalone film made nearly 40 years ago that most people haven’t seen in its entirety.

I don’t know that I’d say it’s “flopping.” Sure, it’s not a blockbuster hit; but it is a damn good movie, and isn’t that what movies are all about? Not anymore, I suppose.

I’m just going to quote ABC News here on the results it got in a survey with the Washington Post to an open-ended question asking for the one word that best describes views of Trump: “The ten most common words that respondents gave were: ‘incompetent,’ ‘arrogant,’ ‘strong, ‘idiot,’ ‘egotistical,’ ‘ignorant,’ ‘great,’ ‘racist,’ ‘a——’ and ‘narcissistic.’”

fixed

Maybe they meant he was a “strong idiot” and “great racist”?

Or perhaps a political strongman.

In the film there will only be one Doughnut ship, and he will be on the bridge of it most of the time. He will be in the conference room , where he talks to the queen about the Republic needing to start over and such. He’s sort of going to be playing the Tarkin role to the Nemoidians Vader? If that makes any sense.

I assume you’re going to be using this scene, albeit heavily edited, for his first contact with the Queen. I hope it doesn’t seem like I’m prying too much, but will she be physically on the ship with him for this, or will they be hologramming?

Looks very interesting. I’ve gotta say that I’m a fan of how you presented your ideas, even if that seems like a silly thing to notice; the little “title cards” make things look very professional.

I’m a big fan of the Old Tech mockup.

How much are you planning on including Dooku in this, and how will that be accomplished? Will he mostly be seen in holograms? Or will he be physically interacting with other characters?
