Trouble with WD SATA Raid Controller
Time
Originally posted by: Shark2k
Hey guys,

I'd really appreciate it if somebody could help me with this problem. I am having trouble when I install my Western Digital Serial ATA RAID Controller. After I install the driver for the controller I get this error: "This device cannot start (code 10)."

I tried putting the controller into a different PCI slot (not that that would probably matter) and still got the same error. I really have no idea what to do and cannot find any newer drivers than the ones that I got. So if somebody could help me, I would be really grateful.

The obvious - have you tried for an updated driver from the vendor's website? Is the device WHQL compliant? Try the card in another machine and see if it works there to eliminate a problem with the card. If it doesn't work in the second machine it might be DOA.

WASP?

That one's just as dumb as "African American" (which assumes that just because someone is black that they have African ancestry), because it assumes that the person is not only white, but also Anglo-Saxon and Protestant, neither of which apply to me.

Multiculturalism is almost as dangerous as environmentalism, in that they'll both be used to justify any abuse of power. I consider myself an American of Irish Descent. Call a black person an American of African descent and watch the leftists in the room vomit out their lower intestines.

Is any white person actually offended by being called a cracker? Anytime I have ever been called a cracker I have failed to contain myself and laughed out loud. Whitey? Okay, I fail to find that one offensive in the least? WASP? Sure, nothing. I am sure there are some more offensive words for white people, but I can't think of them and I doubt I would find them offensive. Maybe it is that white people just don't offend so easily (white males at any rate).

Edit: Added quotes. Wouldn't want to be too unPC.

I'll be damned if I let mass psychology dictate what I may and may not say.

Wow, what a coincidence. I just saw Blazing Saddles in the theater a couple nights ago. The big theater here in town shows old movies on Wednesday nights. My fave is still Spaceballs though. Dark Helmet rules.

This sucks. The only theater in my area that does this is 25 miles away. I wish one would open in my town. If I had the $$ I would open one. I'd definitely pay to watch classic flicks on the big screen again.

P.S. How can you leave off The Producers?!?!?!?!

Damn! I knew I was forgetting one!! So let it be written, so let it be done!

LOST
Time
Been a while since this came up.

Anyhoo, the series was definitely "lost" when they showed that group of 6 episodes in the Fall...the ones that focused on Jack, Sawyer, and Kate. The first few eps of the current run were also a suck-fest.

The last couple of eps, however, have definitely found their stride again.

With tribes of humans... who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians... or the Toltecs... or the Mayans... that they may have been the architects of the Great Pyramids... or the lost civilizations of Lemuria... or Atlantis... Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man... who even now fight to survive... somewhere beyond the heavens." - as a kid I thought HE was the Imperious Leader the cylons were always on about...

*Cue the classic BSG music*

Awww, Man, the memories!

That's it, I'm buying those damn DVDs!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, has anyone else noticed how similar the Starbuck thing is to the original series when Apollo and the others were "space knapped" by aliens and then they were dressed all in white, and their ships were white? It's been a long time since I've seen it so I can't offer anything other than that, but at the end when Apollo was overtaken it was VERY similar, right down to the bright lights behind his viper.

I'm not so sure they are the Final 5.

*SPOILERS*

If you watch the last few minutes, each of them recites a line from "Along the Watchtower", by Bob Dylan/Jimmi Hendrix, which is the song that starts to play at the end. Why would they be singing lines from an earth tune if they were cylons? I was thinking that perhaps the ship is picking up signals from earth due to it's proximity, and these guys are somehow hearing it. I just wouldn't be surprised if we find out they're not the Final 5, however it would be a hell of a coup if they are.

anyway, I'm off to listen to some Jimi, and then download the episode podcast

I don't think it's official yet, but I've heard it from more than one place, which at least makes it plausible, especially if the Caprica series is still in the works.

I believe Moore will have to proceed as though it's the last one of the series. Wrap up those loose ends. I don't want to be left hanging after all this.

Wind Waker update: Well the Fire Dungeon's have finally been completed. Extraordinarily pathetic that it's taking so long to play, but I just can't devote as much time to it as I'd like.

Anyhoo, I've met the Deku Tree and have stopped short of getting the Deku leaf. Had to stop at that point because it was about 5am. I'm enjoying the cel-shaded look of the animation. It's so well done.

Windexed and WESHALL -

Thanks for the answers. I appreciate them. Scary stuff, to be sure. I hope for the people involved it is the B12 thing. I gave them some information on it yesterday and they're definitely feeling there's enough of a connection to bring it to the attention of their doctors.

Thanks again.

Is anyone using their Wii with a surround system? If so, how is it? Do the games make good use of it?

I've got my Wii hooked up to my THX surround receiver and it sounds great. I'd have to go back and check Zelda and Red Steel again, but I can tell you that Wii Sports makes great use of the surround speakers. Specifically in bowling, when you bowl you can hear the people behind you reacting to your bowl. I always chuckle when a gutter ball is bowled and the people in the background start booing.

Heh. I've found Wii sports to be unbelievably loud even in conventional stereo. Much louder than a couple of clicks of volume and it hurts the ears.

Does anyone else think that as internet 2.0 becomes more of a reality, and the broadband pipe gets bigger, that physical game media (carts, discs, etc) are going to become obsolete? I think the online delivery of the Virtual Console and XBox LA are proving that it will happen. Just a matter of time. At that point we'll only be limited by the amount of storage space we have (whether it's a traditional HDD or flash, or whatever).
