I'm on W2K and am trying to decide between upgrading to XP or to Vista.

Not I. Heard too many nightmare stories. We're just starting to convert to XP here at work.

Check out the trailer here.

Are there any fans of the original here? What do you think of the "re-telling"? Will you go see it? I am a huge fan of the original. I am so tired of movies being re-made, but I may go see this one. I like House of 1000 Corpses, even though it wasn't much more that the original Chainsaw Massacre.

I love the original as well. Saw the trailer for this with Grindhouse and it did look intense. Malcolm McDowell sounds like the perfect replacement for Donald Pleasance.

I agree. Looks like they did a good job on casting. A long time ago I heard a rumor that Jamie Lee Curtis was going to make a cameo, but I don't think it's true.

Meh...I could either way on that. I don't think her presence in the last couple added that much.

I never really got into the sequels. The stories were all over the place and they try to retcon too much and change things around. I'll just stick with the original.

OK, as apparently one of the few 'likers of the boxing episode' (far from best but I found it enjoyable) my challenge to everyone is this- watch the season again (when/if you can) back-to-back. I had recorded the whole season and not caught up until two weeks before the finale. Being able to watch ep after ep without the commercials always gives a different perspective to the flow of story. It helps not to have to wait whatever number of weeks between mid-season breaks and such. Taken in the context of what had happened up until then in the season and looking at what was to follow I thought the boxing ep was a decent way to bring everyone back into the main story while giving a 'breather' of sorts for some of the underlying drama that was brewing.

Just my 2 cents of course.

The boxing ep wasn't the only problem with the season as a whole. The first half was very good, but it seemed like the stuff that followed the Bx Ep was weak by the show's own standards. I'll be watching it again after I buy the seasons on iTunes. Want to get a monster external drive for that, though.

The last three episodes are fantastic, and the last one in particular is some of the best tv I've ever seen. You are right though, on balance this season bit the cheese. I knew we were in trouble when I saw the boxing episode.

The Weinsteins, as well as Tarantino and Rodriguez have been taken down a notch or two, and that is not a bad thing. They've been trading on their names and not their skills for too long.

Splitting the movies up is a last-ditch effort to salvage what they can, but it likely will fail. The whole point was to make an exploitational double-feature, so the in-joke that drove the entire project will be lost.

I'll wait for it to be on HBO.

It's a knee-jerk reaction to ONE weekend's box office. Anyone who's actually seen the film(s) will tell you they're outrageous good fun. I had a total stranger in the mall yesterday ask me if I've seen it and we went on to talk about it. I haven't seen (heard) a single negative review yet. If they split the films it'll be a tremendous mistake on Weinstein's part. Rodriguez and Tarantino delivered.

Well, saw it at 12pm ET this afternoon. What a freakin' movie!! (well, actually what 2 movies!!)

The overall production values are fantastic. I really like how they've distressed the film to make them look like they were made in the 70's. I originally thought that each film would be 1 hour & 10 minutes long, but they both felt longer (in a good way). Not sure what the exact running time was. The "trailers" and announcements in front of each film are a hoot and really add to the experience.

Planet Terror: Lots of crazy action, lots of blood. Rose McGowan is absolutely stunning, though I have a thing for her anyway. The pace of this one is very quick, and though I don't care for zombie films I was enthralled by this one and actually was on the edge of my seat at times.

Death Proof: Classic Tarantino - lots of dialog and characterization. Kurt Russel was cool as the antagonist and the car itself is sweet. I'd actually like to get one of those bad boys! The pace of this one is definitely slower than PT and I thought the plot was not as tight. Actually found myself saying "Why don't they just..." a few times and I felt like Russel's character lost his way a bit. Overall still a really cool film.

I'd say my favorite of the two was definitely Planet Terror, which was shown first. Both films taken as a whole were definitely a great experience. I paid $4 for a matinee and I have to say it's hard to find a good 3 hours of entertainment these days for that kind of money that will measure up to this. Tarantino has mentioned that they're looking to do more of these types of films, specifically one of the trailers they produced, turning it into a movie. I'd say I'm tremendously looking forward to it and do indeed hope they do more of these.

JediSage, I have yet to try what you said due to the fact that I don't feel like shutting down and opening my computer up again right now. As to lordjedi, I don't remember exactly what Windows identifies it as but it does put it in the SCSI and RAID Controllers category. As to returning it, I can't actually do that since it came with my HD which I got like a year ago, I think.

Edit: Ok, so I tried what you said JediSage and it did not work. I ordered a card from TigerDirect though so hopefully it will get here next week and I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for all the help and thanks lordjedi for at least responding.

That's why I'm asking him to troubleshoot it. I didn't say that was conclusively the problem. Just that I was dubious about it. Whether it's a SIIG or WD isn't the issue, as you say it should work.

Hi Shark.

No problem, happy to try to help though at this point I'm not sure what else I can suggest. The card not being on the HCL makes me dubious about it's compatibility with XP. This is where having another machine would have helped (I realize this is beyond you right now). Try the following:

Remove it both physically and logically (from device manager) on the machine then shutdown Windows
Bring Windows back up minus the card
Shutdown, install the card but do NOT attach the other hard disk, just stick with the regular setup you have
Install drivers if possible
Shutdown
Connect drive(s)
Restart

It could be a matter of it's not ready to have a physical drive yet. Give it a shot. If that doesn't work, sadly I've no other suggestions. Good luck.

You're asking why a SOCCER game is being released in England before America?

Think about that for a minute, Sage.

As for trying the card on another machine, that isn't an option right now cause all of my roommates have laptops and I don't know of anybody that has a desktop. And I don't know if it's WHQL because it came with my hard drive I bought and I don't remember anything on the package showing the Windows logo.

Might want to check this to see if it's on the list:

HCL

I was thinking that maybe the card could be dead, but wouldn't my computer not pick up on it then?

Not a chance sadly...could be working enough to be detected by Windows, but not enough to "work" work.

What OS are you running? How precisely is it failing? Is it locking up your machine after you plug in the card and boot Windows? Or does it happen when you connect the second HDD? Are you trying to set up a RAID 1 (Mirroring) type deal? Or something else? Do you have access to Windows install CD?

Sorry I can't offer something concrete, but troubleshooting long distance is never easy...

Hey guys,

I'd really appreciate it if somebody could help me with this problem. I am having trouble when I install my Western Digital Serial ATA RAID Controller. After I install the driver for the controller I get this error: "This device cannot start (code 10)."

I tried putting the controller into a different PCI slot (not that that would probably matter) and still got the same error. I really have no idea what to do and cannot find any newer drivers than the ones that I got. So if somebody could help me, I would be really grateful.

The obvious - have you tried for an updated driver from the vendor's website? Is the device WHQL compliant (assuming you're running Windows)? Try the card in another machine and see if it works there to eliminate a problem with the card. If it doesn't work in the second machine it might be DOA.
