Unfortunately so. Sped up and truncated. Film4 is the most irritating offender in this respect because they time compress films to death, even omitting entire credit sequences that are relevant to the film, whilst marketing themselves as the dedicated film channel.
Sidenote: you think that’s bad? It’s been (more than) the norm in the USA for over 10 years! It’s harder to find a channel that shows the credits at all (outside of a box in the corner) than one that does.
😃 It’s been a long time practice in the UK too - going back to the late 90s (from what I can remember) and prior to that, the leading commercial broadcaster would just remove entire scenes in order to cram in more adverts.
Yes, I’ve seen exactly what you’ve described when I’ve spent time on the other side on the Atlantic. TBS Pan Regional really stood out - the credits for Friends ran accelerated in a window whilst the promos for other broadcasts got underway. I think HBO was one of the few channels where that didn’t happen.

The one I got from rutracker does not. It’s literally like watching an HD version of the 2005 PAL DVD (I assume anyway, never actually owned the 2005 DVD’s of either film).

In Middle school, I talked to girls and all but had an abusive friend who ridiculed me and discouraged me anytime I tried to talk to girls. Slowly I lost that motivation and was following the Mormon rule of dating without even having to try. This friend of mine moved and that was definitely for the better. But the effects of his bullying remained and I still had no self confidence to talk to girls.
That individual was never your friend, they were your enemy. Friends are supposed to lift you up, inspire and support you as best as they can - anyone who behaves otherwise is an enemy, to be avoided at all costs. I knew someone who claimed to be my best friend but yet they began seizing upon any opportunity to belittle me (in front of others for maximum damage) about my weight. Eventually, I froze them out of my life and I’ve got no regrets about doing so.
Happy people want to spread happiness as far and as wide as possible. Happy people want to see others succeed in life, be it in relationships, aspirations or general well being. People who feel the need to lower the self-esteem of others and create insecurities within others through emotional abuse, nearly always suffer from serious inadequacies, insecurities and general unhappiness. They project all of their dysfunctions (especially self-loathing) onto others but it’s more of a reflection on how sad and pathetic they are on the inside.

I have no plans to work on TRGB. The expertise required is beyond me and a good restoration would probably involve getting access to the original elements, seeing as you mentioned issues with dirt on the transfer…

JEDIT: I celebrated prematurely - I made three download attempts and on every occasion, the 1280 x 720 video was unplayable, despite trying five different programs. On subsequent attempts, it is impossible to download any version of the video using the plug-in.
Can you explain in further detail as to why it requires a restoration?
I don’t remember any 80’s TV airings of either film as I was only born in 1986 but I fully remember when GBI was aired in the early 90’s that it did not replace the “Wally Wick” line or any alternate made-for-TV dialogue. Ray said “…by dickless here”. But i was only about 6 years old at the time and was yet to know what certain words meant! They didn’t edit out all of swear words but the scene with Daina being grabbed by the Zool-arms chair was completely cut. It ended as soon as Daina could see hand/claw prints through the door. I remember it vividly because I (well, my parents) taped both films and I played them constantly. Quite odd because I seem to remember both films being on fair late in the evening. Maybe not quite post-watershed but late enough to not be edited. But like I say, GBI was edited, GBII (which I taped the ITV premier of) was not. In terms of what transfer they used, I’m assuming they were largely the same ones used for the 1999 DVD’s. Those tapes are sadly long gone so I can’t check.
It sounds like ITV edited GB1 for time. I hated that practice and they did it for years: hacking footage away to cram in more adverts and fit a particular broadcast schedule. When you watched the same film on home video or a different channel, you ended being feeling confused at the “additional” segments.
That’s interesting what you say about C4 using old masters which raises my hopes about this airing slightly. The 1999 master of GBII is nothing really to write home about (as much as the 1999 GBI transfer IMPO) but like the original, it’s how I remember it looking and maybe worth preserving. I would not have a clue how to rip from a Virgin Media TiVo box to an mkv though. Don’t think it’s possible through conventional methods. If i am successful in doing so, it will be 25fps as it’s a UK TV airing but still.

On my setup, I haven’t got any copy-prohibit restrictions, so worst case scenario, I could probably send you the .TS file if you run into problems on your end.
Also, end credits (after the Bobby Brown song) will probably be sped-up on the Ch4 broadcast which I assume is the norm these days.

Not yet, haven’t had a long enough block of time to sit down and view it. I’m looking forward to it though, I have been searching for the full version of it for awhile now.
I did download the Russian version of “Titanic” listed above and it is definitely the older version and appears to be complete.
You ended up with more than you bargained for, an uncut pre-2012 version, a cut version that you can show to your students and also an extended fan edit. 😃
You’re welcome. If you can remember, during the 80s, did ITV use the official TV version for GB1, with the alternate dialogue such as “Wally Wick” or did they mute/snip the offending footage? C4/Film4 has held the rights to GB1 for years and they’ve always hacked it to ribbons in order to fit a pre-watershed schedule.
C4 is often a haven for older/alternate masters (Predator, Psycho, Titanic, Explorers) so let’s see what happens. 😃
Also, is there an HD version of the 1999 master for Ghostbusters II? I have a 1080i HDTV rip (which i got from rutracker) which is 25fps and uses the same master as the 2005 DVD, as do all the ther HDTVrips I’ve found over the years.
The 2005 master of Ghostbusters II IMO is not as bad as the 2005 master for the original film (even though like the first film, it’s been cropped slightly) and actually has a good colour grade (unlike the 2005 GBI) but I thought for completists sake it would be nice to have HD 1999 masters of both films. The 2014 Blu Ray is decent but a bit too dark.
Channel 4 are broadcasting this next Sunday. It’s scheduled for the afternoon, which means you expect edits for language but if there’s any interest, I’ll happily record it in order to gauge which master it was sourced from - in case they show it again but uncut.
No joy on my end either, the best I can grab is 640x480 325.59 MB.
I’m now questioning whether they even provided a 720p stream in the first place…

Looks very good indeed. My C4 HDTV recording clocks in at 9.15 GB and that includes the commercial breaks whilst this one is 25.07 GB and commercial free so there’s no contest. The running time is listed as 03:06:49 and the official theatrical is 3hrs 15m. The credits have probably been time compressed or removed.
Perhaps someone who has downloaded it can confirm?
Has anyone managed to check the Netflix version yet?
I’m still checking my EPG every week for further re-airings by C4 and its sister channels.
