I’m old enough to remember when the MPAA demonized VCR’s.

Me too.

Plus any other format that the MPAA/RIAA and their international equivalents considered a threat, including pressuring DAT machine manufacturers during the early days to cripple their functionality and limit their availability in ordinary retail outlets.

Stephen King’s IT, Page 423 of 1041. (7 pt. font on Universal Book Reader for Android. Physical book is in storage.)

which font family?

I can’t tell if that’s a serious question. E-Readers usually have multiple selectable fonts.

it wasn’t?

I also don’t understand why you would buy the physical book, but not read it. Reading a physical book is usually faster (according to the random research i have seen, google it yourself). Maybe if RayRogers was reading the book he would be done by now :p

That is intended to be good natured ribbing by the way.

Usually on the bus getting to work and also campus. Even bought the book well over 20 years ago, it’s in storage, and that’s just too much shit to lug around all day, everyday.

Also reading: Who Gives a Flying Fuck? by Handy Wankstein III.

No. That attitude towards fellow members isn’t on - and you’ve been warned about your attitude before.

Enjoy some time off from the site - I hope you use it wisely and improve on the attitude - as you are a decent poster without it…

Fair enough.

How to capture HDCP-encrypted HDMI sources (Vudu, Netflix, Directv, Virgin Media, etc.)
Time

I went with the UltraStudio Mini Recorder and so far, so good. Now, I need a HDCP stripper that works with 1.4a. Can anyone recommend one? The ViewHD is 1.3 and my PVR is 1.4a, so I need something more recent and I’m wary after looking through countless reviews for these devices and seeing warnings by people who had their HDMI ports blown by these removers.

Stephen King's IT (1990) - Original two-part version! [RELEASED]
Time

I’ve just had a look. True Entertainment are really capitalising on the recent film release and of course, Halloween. 😄

This is the third airing this month, looks like they’re alternating between using different masters. It seems I was wrong: during the 1st screening this month, they used the DVD master that has the image cropped to fit a 16:9 aspect ratio and footage removed from the ending of part one and the beginning of part two respectively. Last week, they used the original 4:3 two parter version and now, they’re back to using the DVD master again.

Can’t seem to make up their minds!

Agreed but it does happen every so often. Well, to me anyway. 😉

I met them online and just stuck around. You have no idea how much I hate myself that I haven’t been able to find friends or anything without using the internet.

Don’t hate yourself, it’s quite widespread. Over time, you can wean yourself away from using the Internet to make friends. Attending events where you know there will be like minded people with similar interests, from my experience, usually works.

Best LaserDisc Player for capturing?
Time

I own two: the UK Pioneer CLD-D925 that I use for the sheer convenience of watching PAL/NTSC LD’s without having to turn the sides manually and as a bonus, for capturing digital audio, as it has a TOSLink interface. Going on the recommendations of Silverwook and from browsing the forums, I also imported an industrial NTSC only Pioneer LD-V4400. It’s built like a tank (and looks like one!) and although it lacks the fancy consumer features of the D925, the picture quality is far superior, with far less dot crawl and noise. This is what I use for capturing the video signal from my discs.

Some good information here: http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Difference-in-quality-of-laserdisc-players/id/8537/page/1

It is airing on Spike Tv in the U.S. tonight. (I presume they air in HD?) Don’t know if it’s the two parter or not though.

How’s this for an eerie coincidence? The same channel where I recorded the UK SDTV airing from, is re-running IT again - right now. They’re using the cropped to 16:9 version now, so it’s fortunate that I recorded it last time. 😄

Was it at least the two-parter?

Yes, it was. Couldn’t see that channel shelling out for a newer master. 😄

Info: Films re-released with alterations
Time

Thanks for the info. At the time when the alternate version was released, I remember journalists (clearly now, erroneously) pointing to the sequel agenda. Test screenings often do more harm than good. Many a classic suffered at the hands of audiences who just didn’t get what they watched. Agree with you about the ending, disagree about the film. 😃

Alexander: multiple versions with alterations on home video.

Again with Oliver Stone: JFK re-cut for home video.

http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=93992

Keeping with Stone, Savages, Natural Born Killers and Nixon have all been revised with alterations on home video.

How could I forget Night Watch? I bought the Russian DVD because the Western releases had been altered.

I Am Legend: a home video version with an entirely different ending, in order to open the door to a sequel.

Not a visual alteration: Disney substituted the opening song lyrics on all home video versions and theatrical re-releases of Aladdin after complaints during the original theatrical run.

(I learned about this one from a documentary, turns out that Disney had already prepared alternate song lyrics in the event of complaints.)

It’s a good plan. 😃

I forgot the UK version of Pulp Fiction: uncut during the theatrical run but then censored with visual alterations on UK VHS and the DVD in order to avoid any accusations of glamorising drug use. (The UK Blu-ray is uncensored)

“Although uncut in UK cinemas, the video versions were all re-framed to remove the sight of the needle piercing John Travolta’s arm. This re-framed version is the one which was also shown on network TV (BBC 2).”

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110912/alternateversions

An infamous example that for the life of me, I’m surprised I didn’t list earlier…

Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song: censored via visual alteration since 2005 for UK home video releases.

All thanks to Mario Van Peebles forgetting that loose lips, sinks ships, or in this case, alerts motion picture organisations about dishonest testimonials. 😄

For the time being, unless I am convinced otherwise, I think I’ll leave off The Road Warrior but include Do the Right Thing.

Consider the following, from the thread link I included:

The best evidence was provided by the original cinematographer on the commentary track IIRC. He talked of having to go to the film lab multiple times to push the colors to get that more saturated look of the desert. That is the intended look reflected on the 35mm theatrical prints, the VHS, LD and DVD issue from a print sourced master. That used a US print under the RW title and slightly edited. The BD uses what is presumably a fresh HD scan of the Australian master, hence the uncut film and MM2 title card. It also is the master so it lacks the intended color timing, making it yet another film misrepresented in HD due to using camera negatives and not replicating theatrical color timing.

For the DVD release, Disney has censored the 1-800-SPANKME scene in The Santa Clause after complaints from parents whose children had called what turned out to be a real number. 😄

Here’s the scene from an LD rip.

Funnily enough, the BBC aired an uncensored version just two years ago.

Allegedly some early video copies don’t have that credit, as Harlan bought The Terminator on LD and was perturbed it wasn’t there. At least that’s what I read somewhere many years ago.

That’s interesting, I wonder if the wrong master was used for the transfer. It probably ruined his plans to show off to his friends. I bet he threatened another round of litigation. 😃
