Indeed they are. I recall two years ago, right before celebration, they started to release art for The Force Awakens. I’m feeling that is what it’ll be for The Last Jedi.

That ESB screenshot looks beautiful. They DNR’ed the hell out of that film for the Blu-ray, so seeing this (even with grain reduction) is a sight to behold.

They mentioned a private screening of ANH at Skywalker Ranch in the FFC video. I do hope an OT.com member can win and confirm just what version it is! 😉

The frame captures are taken from some of the samples used to show other industry insiders when the restoration was being done.

Tests were made on Star Wars, and The Empire Strikes Back. Yes, the clips are higher quality than the Vimeo ones.

And you have said clips? Are they from the SEs?

I believe they stated that they’re from the 97 SEs.

These screenshots seem to have come from a higher bitrate video than the Vimeo upload. They look much better when not subject to web compression.

Yeah but that’s one thing I like with ROTJ: there is a rehash of the Death Star but it’s not the heart at all of the story, just another story in the background to bring the chain of events in one place.

That’s being said, you should indeed stick to the v1 version of the destruction of the NR.

I agree with V1 being the better option as well. I believe the events worked hand-in-hand in the first edit, while this one seems slightly disjointed.

There are times where I hold the prequels in such high regard that I can’t believe what I’m looking at… this is one of those times. I had to go into a frame-by-frame analysis to see that it WAS from ROTS. It was a “blink and you’ll miss it” moment. My apologies.

If you Blu-ray player doesn’t play the DTS-HD file, make sure you bring it into TSMuxer and click “Downconvert DTS-HD to DTS”. My Sony couldn’t play the DTS-HD files, but can handle DTS just fine.

Thank you for this. I understand the hate, but it’s still Star Wars.

Finally got to watch this in my home theater room, here are somethings I noticed:

1. After being slapped by K2SO, you can see Diego Luna slightly smirking while hiding his face
2. Vader’s “outfit” on Mustafar looks like a Halloween costume, yet it looks fine in the finale
3. The color timing is aimed more at theatrical colors for ANH, while TFA is aimed towards the Blu-ray colors
4. Tarkin is so close to looking real, it almost throws the whole illusion off
5. Riz Ahmed talks way too fast
6. The score is one of the best Star Wars soundtracks ever

All in all, it’s such a great film and rivals The Force Awakens in every aspect. I can’t believe I hated it when it first came out.
