The Great One: Chuck Norris
Time
What the heck? Does this topic seem really randon to anyone else? Anyway. Some of those were pretty funny (mostly because of how unexpected they were), but...

15. In the movie "Back to the Future" they used Chuck Norris'
Delorean to go back into time and into the future. When they gave it
back to him with a scratch on it he was angry and roundhouse kicked
Michael J. Fox, which years later was the cause of his Parkinson's
disease.

35. Chuck Norris built a time machine and went back in time to stop the JFK assassination. As Oswald shot, Chuck met all three bullets with his beard, deflecting them. JFK's head exploded out of sheer amazement.

37. To prove it isn't that big of a deal to beat cancer. Chuck Norris smoked 15 cartons of cigarettes a day for 2 years and aquired 7 different kinds of cancer only to rid them from his body by flexing for 30 minutes. Beat that, Lance Armstrong.

Man, these three are just terrible. ;_;

back, and to the left.

Who gives a flying flip about the special effects? We know they'll be good. If a movie is nothing more than special effects to you, then no wonder you hated Begins. Begins was about the psychology of Batman, about what makes him tick. Not about explosions, though it had those and they were good.

rofl. you were actually making some fairly good points, but this paragraph is... never mind i don't think you have any idea what is happening in universe. with that one paragraph you basically backed up my entire arguement (which i am not sure you completely understood)

also, the top of your post was correct, i (admittedly) don't know much about batman! I don't read the comics and I didn't watch the cartoons. But, I do know film, and I know, that Batman Begins (being looked at purely as a MOVIE and not as a COMIC BOOK MOVIE) is pretty crappy, imo!! it's like LotR. regardless of how "true to the story" it is, you still have to look at it as two different things. book, screenplay. this is the same thing. comic book, screenplay. two different things which deserve to be judged completely separate of each other. And the reason I was watching it (even though i am not a SUPER HUGE BAT-FAN) is because it was obviously going to be one of the biggest hits of the summer! it's one of those movies you have to see, even if you think it's stupid (like titanic)

Also, I don't know how attempting to look at a movie from an academic point of view is NIT PICKY! Just because i have higher standards than "COOL CAR GREAT EXPLOSIONS", doesn't mean I am trying to nit pick!

-edit-
Oh yes, and I am not "stating my opinion as fact." I am merely stating my opinion (be it fact or not, it is what i think, therefor it will be what emits from my mouth (or in this case fingers))! I never said "THESE WRITINGS ARE IN STONE AND HAVE BEEN PROVEN TRUE THROUGH SCIENCE, NOBODY CAN EVER SAY ANYTHING THAT CONTRADICTS WHAT I HAVE SAID."

though, i guess i was a bit rude, but it is INTERNET NOBODY HAS FEELINGS ON HERE to me you are just text on a screen sorry

Hm. Most of you seem to be feeling the exact opposite of me. A lot of you have been saying that you thought the second series started off really bad, but has been getting progressively better. I feel like it started out exceedingly well, but has been getting more and more boring as time goes on.

I do agree that they just have too many characters on the show right now, and it's hard to really make any kind of attachment to the characters when sometimes a character won't even be in an episode for a good while. Just look at Charlie. Last seaspn I would have been furious if they had killed him off, but this season he's hardly done anything of note, and it's like he doesn't even matter anymore.

At first I thought it was really exciting when they brought in the other survivors, but I'm starting to think it might have been a bad idea.

By the way, Darren Aronofsky is going to be directing an episode of Lost sometime in 2006! I'm really anxious to see that.

Crash, Goodnight and Good Luck, Jarhead, and Syriana. Also, War of the Worlds was decent. If The Fountain hadn't been pushed back to 2006, I'm sure it would have been on my list. But at least now I have a movie to look forward to seeing next year!

Both Potter and Narnia are way, way down on my list. They were both pretty cheesy and boring, imo.

I'm still not really sure what I think about ROTS. There were parts I really liked, and other parts I really disliked.

USA Today says that he was just injured, and that his daughter was killed.

Among the dead was the daughter of Syrian film director Moustafa Akkad, who was also injured in the deadly blast at the Hyatt.

USA Today article.

But then again, they call him a film director even though he's really a producer... So I don't know.

Either way, it's still sad.

Looks like he really is dead. He died from his injuries.

Alright now, do this: Go to Start and then click on Run, and then type in this: telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl

It's not the whole thing, but it does go all the way to the jail break. I especially love how Han shoots first in the Greedo scene! It's pretty amazing that someone would actually take the time to make something like this.

...I don't think you quite understood what I was trying to say. You just saw my post and noticed it was different and didn't necessarily hold Rosa Parks in a holy light, so you just disregarded it as a "flame" and a "negative criticism." Anyway, most of your post was just repeating the same thing over and over, but I'll try addressing everything.

As stated in my first post, several other people tried doing what she did. I even gave you the name of another guy who attempted the same thing. Homer Plessy. And also, even though she did commit a brave act, her personality still seemed pretty snobby. Like I said in my first post, she's only famous because she stood up for her constitutional rights, but then she sued Outkast just because they used her name as the title for one of her songs. First amendment, anyone? She should have sued Outkast because their music is awful, not because she thinks she's too good to have one of their songs named after her.

For all she knew, she could have gotten lyched for what she did. Her actions jump started the civil rights moment. She most definitely is a fine example of a human being.
I'm not saying her action wasn't brave. I even admitted that it was in my first post. I just don't think one single brave action should all of a sudden make someone "A+ PURE GRADE PRIME HUMAN BEING BETTER THAN THE LITTLE COMMON PEOPLE!!!" Also, other things helped provoke the civil rights movement. Like the four students who entered that North Carolina variety store and sat down at the "white counter." By 1963, 14,000 people had been arrested, all of them for being part of 758 resistance demonstrations in 11 different states. Like I said before, "And though I agree Rosa Parks may have been a butterfly that caused a hurricane, I still don't think she herself should be considered the hurricane. Keep in mind several other butterflies were flapping their wings as well."

I'm not so much criticizing Rosa Parks, as I am criticizing people's exaggerated opinion of her. People act as if she was one of the holy saviors of all black people, but thousands of people who were just as brave as her get overlooked and ignored by history. Again, I don't think you actually knew what I was saying in my first post.

By "pay tribute," you mean a few replies, all of which containing sentences similar to "That's sad. RIP ." I'm sure she's up in heaven smiling down upon your monumental effort of making sure she gets the respect she deserves from a few people on an online Star Wars message board.

Now Jaster, of course you are entitled to your negative opinion of Rosa Parks. I just wish you would have created another thread and done it there.

I wasn't aware that negative and different were synonymous. Also, why would I create another thread solely to voice my opinion about Rosa Parks, when there is already a Rosa Parks thread? If everyone had to make a new topic every time they wanted to say something different than what other people are saying, it would nullify the purpose of MESSAGE BOARDS, which is to discuss and debate various subjects.

Alright, I'll respect your wish to keep this topic flame war free (even though I don't think every single debate and confrontation should qualify as a "flame war.") and I won't post again either.

Okay, first of all, I'm not trying to "fight" you. Anyway, why do you assume that I won't listen to what you have to say? Have I given you any reason thus far that you could use to back that statement up? Also, if you really feel so strongly about it, why not just voice your opinion, regardless of who it will affect and who will listen? Think if Rosa Parks had the same mentality when she was on that bus. What if she hadn't taken a stand, because she just assumed it wouldn't change anything?

Now, let's take a look at your original post.

thoughts? comments?

I've highlighted the significant sentences. Let's start with the first one: You say that she's a hero to her people? It's ironic that you would feel the need to place black people into their own sect by classifying them as "her people," because by doing that you are going against what Rosa Parks stood for in the first place. If her act was truly so brave, then shouldn't she be a hero to ALL people? Shouldn't her action be considered an inspiration for everyone, instead of just "her people"?

But that was just a small thing that I wanted to point out. The main thing, the thing that really bothers me about your original post, is that you deliberately specified wanting to hear other people's thoughts and comments, but then as soon as someone says something that you don't necessarily agree with, all of a sudden it becomes a "DEAD TREAD." If you don't want to hear what other people are thinking, then you shouldn't ask them to tell you!

Stuntman
Dick Warlock (Spider-Man) -> Willem Dafoe (xXx: State of the Union) -> Samuel L. Jackson.

Actor
Dick Warlock (The Abyss) -> Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (The Perfect Storm) -> George Clooney (Ocean's Eleven) -> Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting) -> Ben Affleck (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) -> Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill

Okay, this won't be all that hard, but he was cool: Burgess Meredith.

Now you see, this really bugs me. There's no reason to classify her as a "prime example of a fine human being." Did you hear about her law suit against Outkast because of their song? For someone who's only famous because she stood up (or in this case, sat down) for her constitutional rights, she sure seems hypocritical. Trying to go against Outkast's freedom of speech. It seems like her mind had achieved "Holier than thou" status.

And also, several other people had done what she did, before she did it. What about Homer Plessy, who sat in one of the "white" cars in an attempt to integrate the East Louisiana Railroad, years before Rosa Parks did anything? See, Parks just got lucky with her judge and jury. She just got lucky that she was the one who finally won the fight, even though many others had fought the same fight. Why should she be considered a "prime example of a fine human being" just because she got lucky, while hundreds of other people who did the same thing get overlooked?

She did one commemorable thing 50 years ago, and now for some reason lots of people put her on the same pedestal as George Washington or Mother Teresa, or like in your post, Martin Luther King. Those are prime human beings. And although Park's act was with out doubt brave, it wasn't something that should shoot her up to "prime human being" status. Millions of people every day commit brave acts, or commemorable acts, or amazing acts. Rosa Parks is no better than those people. She's not holy. She's not prime. She just did one brave thing, and got lucky. In fact, we're all equal, correct? So by you calling anyone a "prime example of a fine human being," you're placing humans in specified ranks. What exactly does one have to do to become a member of the "fine human being" club? What does someone have to do to become more excellent than someone else? Please give me some insight as to what the rules are. In the mean time, I disavow my former statement of George Washington, Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King being "prime" human beings, until we all agree on what makes someone else better than others.

I don't know why I'm pointing all this stuff out. Maybe I'm just a cynical jerk, or maybe I just want to remind you that "heroes" are humans too. And though I agree Rosa Parks may have been a butterfly that caused a hurricane, I still don't think she herself should be considered the hurricane. Keep in mind several other butterflies were flapping their wings as well.

Anyway, RIP. At least she died the best way possible. Peacefully in her sleep.

skyjedi2005, could you try to break your posts up into paragraphs? It's just kind of annoying when it's all in one giant block of text like that...

Anyway! FF10 had nice graphics, but really that was all it had going for it. I just couldn't get into the whole Sphere system. It was pretty boring in my opinion. I didn't really like the storyline either, just because I found it boring. Overall I just thought FF10 was a very boring game to play... I'm just a big fan of the original RPG style. FF10 introduced so many new elements that most RPGs didn't have before the PS2, and I just didn't really care for many of them. It was kind of the same problem I had with FF8... They tried doing this whole new way of learning magic and new skills, and it was just overly complicated and annoying. I guess in all reality, the biggest problems I had with 10 and 8 were just the battle systems. I couldn't really get into either of 'em.

The first RPG I ever played was FF7, so maybe that's why it's still on my top 5 list. But I just really enjoy playing it. A good RPG (or any kind of game for that matter) has never been about storyline or graphics for me. It's how much fun I get out of actually playing the game. Most people find things like random battles to be annoying, but I really enjoy them and will spend hours leveling up even when I don't need to!

The simple things, like learning new skills or finding hidden items or trying to figure out the best way to save money and still get all the good items... Things like that are what I really find fun in an RPG. I know it sounds kind of dumb, but no other video game beats the feeling I get whenever I start a new game of FF9... Just thinking about different ways of playing through it and remembering where all the secrets... It's kind of hard to explain. And FF9 is an example of how an RPG can have a terrible storyline, and still be fun.

FF7 I think easily had the best battle/magic system. The materia system was really well designed. Of course, FF5 also had an awesome battle system, using the Job system... I'd like to see them bring that back some day.

Anyway. To be quite honest, I've never fully understood the FF7 story... I've played through it 3 times now, and each time I figure out a little more than I did the time before, but I still don't have it all down. It's definitely a little confusing. And granted, the graphics are pretty horrible. Even back when the game was released, the graphics were pretty awful compared to some things being released. Of course, that wont happen now days since Square-Enix always pumps out the top of the line in graphics.

Oh yeah, another thing that bugged me about FF10 was the dialouge. It just seemed really awkward in some places... I didn't like the voice acting. I don't really like voice acting in any RPGs though. In ToS I turned the voice acting off at the very start of the game, just because I found it so annoying.

Anyway. When it boils down to it, I just prefer the more conventional systems. Usually when they try making a new one, I just don't feel comfortable with it. FF10 wasn't really pure garbage, I just didn't like it's design as much. I am still looking forward to FF11 though. But I'm actually anticipating the release of Kingdom Hearts 2 more than FF11.

Also, skyjedi2005, I too would love to see them remake FF7 for the PS3. But I'm a little worried that they might get a little carried away and end up adding in all kinds of new things and changing stuff that doesn't need to be changed!

I know it's confirmed. I'm saying that IGN actually thought up a good design for what it should look like... A Gamcube controller. Nintendo should use that design, because it's a good one. Even though they've probably been working on the shell for months before IGN made that mock up...

Darth Chaltab, that picture is a fake. It was a photoshop done by IGN.

From IGN:

Nintendo has not yet released official imagery of what the controller shell might look like. However, we've created a mock-up (above) based on what we know of its functionality. The real controller shell is likely to connect to the free-hand-style pointer in a very similar fashion. Please note that we realize our model is not entirely to scale, but this is the best we could do on short notice.

Revolution Controller SERIOUSLY REVEALED! NO JOKE!
Time
Oh man, this is such a terrible design.

1) It's basically making it so the entire console is ONLY for DUCK HUNT kind of games. I guess that's fun for people who enjoy flailing their hands around for hours at a time, pointing and clicking, but personally I don't think it will be that great!!

2) To be able to play most games, you're going to need to buy ATTACHMENTS! This means, after you spend the 30 to 50 dollars for your game, you're going to have to spend another 20 to 40 dollars just to be able to play it right!

3) There is just NO WAY they can get this thing to work for RPGs... I mean, I just don't see how it will work at all. It might work well for FPS, but RPGs are out of the question. And RPGs are my favorite genre.

4) Who could hold that thing for more than an hour? Seriously. Go into your living room or where ever you have your TV, pick up your remote control, and start pointing it at the TV and move you arms around a bit and click on some buttons. I imagine all games released for the Revolution will be fun for about an hour. Then you'll just get bored and/or tired and turn it off. Seriously, it gets tiring holding your hand out in front of you for that long!

5) This could have been a very smart idea for an add-on. Like an accessory or something. A cool little device used to play certain kinds of games. But it was a bad idea to use it as the MAIN CONTROLLER. Seriously. I don't know what they were thinking. It'd be like if Sony decided to make the EyeToy the main controller for the PS3!

6) third party games are not going to port well AT ALL! Games like Splinter Cell or Prince of Persia, where you need like 10 buttons to be able to do things. And fighting games aren't going to work very well either, because you need to push like several buttons to make combos and stuff. Imagine playing SSBM with that controller. It wouldn't work. It just wouldn't. Of course, the way they'll probably try to solve this problem is by, again, making ATTACHMENTS! Which will then cost extra money! So, you could either buy a different system that also has the third party games, without having to blow an extra $20-$40, or waste loads of money with the Revolution everytime you want to play some third party game! Or maybe they just wont port games at all... That would be a horrible idea, and I doubt they're that stupid... but after this controller design, I wouldn't be surprised.

I know that I can't FULLY judge the controller until I've actually played with it, but so far it's had an awful first impression on me. Seriously... I hope that there's more to it. I hope that there's something they're not telling us, because it really looks and sounds that bad. What's weird is that I kind of liked the controller, until I started reading articles and watching video clips. The more I learned about it, the more I thought "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!"

Well, they've only made two movies so far counting FF7:AC... Unless you're counting the anime series, which was also awful. But it wasn't a movie. Anyway, I like FF7:AC more than Final Fantasy Spirits Within (which had nothing to do with any of the games), even though they were both terrible. At least AC had better action and better CGI (granted, it's like 5 years later since Spirits Within was released...)

But yeah, there really hasn't been an actual good FF game released yet. Well, really, there hasn't been a good video game movie released yet. Doom looks like it could be cool though. Well, really the only thing that looks cool is that first person camera view they're going to be doing. That sounds/looks like an awesome idea... I hope it's pulled off right,

Some of you might know this, but the fully CGI Final Fantasy 7 movie was leaked a few days ago. It was on several torrent sites. It was in Japanese, but some guy a few hours later released a .ssa file with english subs. It was officially released in theaters over in Japan today.

Anyway. I was wondering how many FF7 fans are here, and if any of you have seen the movie yet. I'm a major fan of FF7. It's one of my top 5 favorite RPGs. But this movie was so awful. The story really made no sense at all. I mean, the bad guys just came out of know where. They had no real reason to be there... It was just a lot of running around and fighting for no actual reason. And the Geostigma desease was really random. I mean, where did it come from? And what was it doing to them? The whole thing just wasn't put together well... I wonder if the writer actually PLAYED any of FF7.

Story aside though, the CGI was amazing. Easily some of the best CGI I've ever seen in a movie. The music was pretty good aswell. And the fight scenes, even though there was no reason to really have any of them, were still pretty cool to watch.

As a movie though, it was awful. Especially as an FF7 movie, because it didn't have anything to do with FF7! It felt like the whole point of the movie was "isn't it cool seeing your favorite characters in cgi movie form?!"

So... Did any of you guys see it or plan on seeing it?

I agree that they were all perfect for their roles, and they really made Star Wars what it is... But if he was making Episodes 4, 5 and 6 TODAY, there is no way he would use those people. 1) Alec Guinness is DEAD. He wouldn't be able to use him. 2) Nobody on earth would know about Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, or Harrison Ford. They only became famous because of the originals. And even if they had become famous without Star Wars, they would all be to old. He wouldn't be casting some 50 year old guy as Han Solo, sorry.

I've also always wondered this. Also, why doesn't anyone say the word Padawan? I mean, like... I would expect it to come up at least ONCE in the OT... Like, maybe Obi-Wan would say it to Luke or Darth Vader to Obi-Wan or Yoda to Luke or SOMETHING!

I think this is just more proof that George Lucas didn't have the PT written way back when he first made the OT... Also, what the hell was he doing in that, like, 20 year break or whatever between the OT and the PT? I mean, he obviously wasn't writtin the PT, or else there wouldn't be so many plot holes and inconsistencies!
