Disappointing DVD package (re the 2004 OT SE release)
Time
I can't get over the fact that Lucas doesn't tell anyone in the commercials that it's not the original release... In the commercials, it says this "The original Star Wars trilogy on DVD, September 21st!"

It never says ANYTHING about the changes... And yet, it mentions the special features. That just really... bugs me.

By the way, I baught a bootleg copy of the OT on Ebay... was this a smart move?

Episode III will be the Revenge of the Shit. Will it be darker than Empire? Most likely not since Lucas is at the helm. Considering the kiddiness of I and II compared to the OT, I'll say it'll be PG. Lucas lies all the time. he's just trying to stir discussions like this up. ; )

It will definutly be much darker then Empire. First of all Attack of the Clones is probably the second darkest of the Star Wars movies. Return of the Jedi has the empire getting defeated by teddy bears but you can call Attack of the Clones childish. Statments like that make no sense. Attack of the Clones was far far better then The Phantom Menace. This is not Lucas learning from mistakes. What it is was always the plan. Episode 1 was always going to be as much of a kids movies as possible. He did it this way because he knew Episode 2 would be much much darker and Episode 3 would not be happy by any stretch of the imagination. Considering how many characters are going to die and how the galaxy is going to be plunged into darkness Revenge of the Sith might be one of the most depressing movies in a while.

I like em. I love Star Wars.

If you "love" star wars so much, you should know that the Ewoks are much more than "teddy bears". Also, Attack of the clones was not a dark movie at all... It might of had a few scenes which were suppose to be "dark", but because of the bad acting, they were mostly just funny. I laugh everytime I hear Anakin say "I KILLED THEM! I KILLED ALL OF THEM!". It's corny and very poor acting. And then there is the whole Yoda duel. That was just as childish as having little "teddy bears" throw rocks at the storm troopers... I mean, it's an old small frog-looking guy who is bouncing off the walls like he had to much caffine.

Another thing that made AOTC very un-dark, was the fact that it has had the biggest romance story in any of the movies so far... There were countless scenes of Anakin and Padme just talking and laughing and flirting when they were on Naboo... the first half of the movie was basically a chick flick.

I am not expecting anything good to come out of episode three because nothing good came out of the other prequels. I love Star Wars, but Episode 1, 2 and probably 3 are not what I would consider star wars. The acting is no where near as good as the originals, the characters are not as interesting, the storyline is completly predicteble (I mean, we all know already that Anakin is going to become Darth Vader... But when Star Wars first came out, did any of us know that Darth Vader was Luke's father?) and the worst part is, instead of "making the star wars universe better", they have merely made it worse. Changing people's entire background stories just to make more money (Boba Fett... ). Not a single good thing has come out of the prequels in my opinion, and I just wish he had never made them... And if he HAD to make them, he should of at least made them better. He should be making the prequels tie in with the original trilogy, he shouldn't edit and change the original trilogy to make it tie in with the prequels.

All in all, I guess the prequels are okay movies... But they're very, VERY poor STAR WARS movies.

I hate getting into politics, because nobody ever actually changes anybody's mind... They just keep saying the same thing over and over again...

If I was old enough to vote, I would vote green party. Their "Ten Key Values" have almost restored my faith in the american goverment... but then again, I guess all the parties look good on paper.

I don't like the fact that everyone is caught in this mind set that they have to vote for either democrats or republicans... there are other, better choices, but people don't seem to notice them. I also hate the fact how america just seems to be stuck in this endless loop... we always vote for somebody who we think will do a good job, but then he doesn't and we get mad and vote for somebody else, and he doesn't do a good job either... Gah, all politics suck.

A Modest Suggestion

Hey, maybe if one of us was to register at the View Askew message board, we could post a topic asking Kevin Smith personally to make some kind of statement against the DVDs and tell people about this site... maybe we could even convince him to put a link to originaltrilogy on the main page of View Askew, and that could bring in thousands of people... But you have to pay just to be able to register, so I don't know if anyone would want to do that...

By the way, I don't know about boycotting RotS, but I am without doubt boycotting the DVDs. I'm not gonna buy them, I'm gonna go to Wal-Mart and tell people why they shouldn't buy them, and I'm gonna pray that they don't sell well... maybe if he makes no money off the DVDs, he'll realize he HAS to put out the original trilogy.
