Ideas Thread: for Transformers 2...

I would have started by now, but as it stands I need to purchase a AnyDVD HD license in order to get it on my computer.  I can't afford that right now so I'm waiting for another software to work (I have the Blu-Ray, if it was the DVD I'd have no problems).

No, the DVD also has plenty of problems as it has a new disc copywrite-protection method that makes it impossible to rip it using most DVD ripping programs - you'd need to use the latest release of DVDFab (or download the latest beta) and follow these steps:
1. turned off Pathplayer in Settings
2. turned off Preview in Settings
3. restarted DVDFab
4. inserted TF2 disc
5. chose "Main Movie" chapter 47
6. clicked 'Start'.

I have skimmed through the first 25 minutes or so and made mental notes of what to cut and how difficult it would be to work with.  So far it seems like I can make significant changes without having to work too hard, so that's good.

TRANSFORMERS: MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE - (Released)
Time

I honestly regard Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to be one of the worse films that I’ve ever seen (right up there with the theatrical/dvd cut of Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones). However, there were several specific scenes and story elements in the sequel that (believe it or not) worked for me:

- I thought the first six minutes of the “Shanghai robot battle” was rather exciting (it beat the hell out of the remaining action scenes of the film) and it was nice to see the new renditions of Arcee and Sideswipe.

- I loved the idea of Soundwave as a satellite - I think it’s a logical “generational upgrade” for that specific type character, plus his voice always sounded awesome.

So I’d decided to start work on a fanedit of the first Transformers film which (along with numerous others cuts, edits, and improvements) will eventually add those sequel elements into the first movie.

MAJOR EDIT: “Qatar Military Attack” sequence is now moved to after Sam gets Bubblebee from the dealership

CUT: Removed Captain Lennox’s “wife/baby” subplot
MAJOR EDIT: A lot of editing to the “Lake Park” scenes to tone down “high school drama” elements and remove the “dumb jock” character
MAJOR CUT/EDIT: Removed as much of the terrible “sex, drugs, and toilet humor” that was previously present in the film
ADDITION: Added Stan Bush’s “Dare” to the car background music of Sam/Mikella’s first ride in Bumblebee
CUT/EDIT: Cut much of the “Bumblebee = Hurbie the Love Bug” scenes, including his stalling out at the cliff edge

MAJOR ADDITIONS: Added several of the Soundwave scenes from “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” throughout the fanedit, especially alongside the “Frenzy Hacking” and “Decepticons Mobilizing” scenes

MAJOR EDIT: Reorganized Sam’s “History Class” segment to occur after Soundwave/Frenzy hack into the Pentagon and Air Force One
ADDITION: Added Ravage’s attack on the military complex for the alien metal “shard”
CUT: Removed all scenes of Sam being interogation in the police station
CUT/EDIT: Numerious cuts to the soldiers battle with Scorponac in the desert
MAJOR EDIT: Removed the “Kill Bill” theme music from when Bubblebee upgrades himself
CUT/EDIT: Many cuts and trims to the scenes of Sam searches for the glasses at his home and Sector 7 introduction
CUT/EDIT: Tone down the ‘“over the top” antics of the Agent Simmons character
CUT: Removed the "Soldiers’ Mutiny of Sector 7" sequence
EDIT: Pitch Starscream’s voice higher to closer match his original G1 voice
MAJOR CUTS/EDITS: Numerous cuts, trims, alterations, and even scene rearrangements to the final “City Battle” sequences
MAJOR CUT: Completely removed the original ending of “Transformers” (Sector 7 disbands, Captain arrives home to wife and baby, and Sam/Mikella make-out on top of Bubblebee)
MAJOR ADDITION/EDIT: Used the first 2/3 of the “Shanghai Battle” sequence from “TF2: Revenge of the Fallen” for the fanedit’s finale.
ADDITION: The first End Credits song is Black Lab’s “‘Transformers’ Theme”; second End Credits song is Stan Bush’s “You’ve Got the Touch”

That's a really dumb answer, mate...

... Clearly you're the one who's never read up on how to write a script, otherwise your answer wouldn't have been so stupid.

Here's the dialogue for The Lost 20 scene I was talking about yesterday:

Obi-Wan stares at the bust of Count Dooku.

Jocasta Nu: He has a powerful face doesn't he? He was one of the most brilliant jedi I have had the privilege of knowing.

Obi-Wan: I never understood why he quit. Only twenty jedi have ever left the order.

Jocasta Nu: The Lost 20. Count Dooku was the most recent and the most painful. No one likes to talk about it. His leaving was a great loss to the order.

Obi-Wan: What happened?

Jocasta Nu: Well, Count Dooku was always a bit out of step with the decisions of the council. Much like your old Master, Qui-Gon Jinn.

Obi-Wan: really?

Jocasta Nu: Oh yes. They were alike in many ways. Very individual thinkers and idealists. he was always striving to become a more powerful jedi. he wanted to be the best. With a lightsaber, in the old style of fencing, he had no match. His knowledge of the force was....unique. In the end, I think he left because he lost faith in the republic. He believed that politics were corrupt, and he felt the jedi betrayed themselves by serving the politicians. He always had very high expectations of government. He disappeared for nine or ten years, then just showed up recently as the head of the separatist movement.

Obi-Wan: It's very interesting. I'm not sure I completely understand.

Jocasta Nu: Well I'm sure you didn't call me over here for a history lesson. Are you having a problem, Master Kenobi?

I bold that last line because that's in the released cut at the start of the archives scene. But they shot the whole scene entirely, including all the dialogue I wrote. Now, this is a perfect setup for a "rogue" Dooku.

God, I would sooooo kill to have that footage to add to my Twilight edit...

ATTACK OF THE CLONES
Adding the scroll to "Attack of the Phantom." Reinserting the meadow scene (but not the giant tick riding). I think that's the only scene where those kids actually have chemistry. I might add the scene where Amidala talks to the Queen ("When we stop belieiving democracy can work is when we lose it" is a great line). Also removing the name "Darth Sidious" the two times it is used. Dooku remains "Lord Tyrranus" in the final scene.

Both the "Meadow" scene and "Naboo Queen" scene are already part of the theatrical/DVD cuts of AotC (so "re-inserting" them back in is kinda impossible). :P

Yeah, where are people finding these deleted scenes? Are there more that weren't on the DVD?

The scene was about the Lost 20 and went into description about Dooku's character. They shot it but it was cut. And yes, there are many scenes from all 3 prequels that were shot but cut that have yet to see the light of day.

Oh, I think I remember reading about that scene in the "Secret History of Star Wars" - it's the one which reveals that Dooku was one of the only Jedi to ever leave the Order, right? Yeah, that would've been a great scene for my Twilight of the Republic edit.

Speaking of this, what is that deleted scene of the the jedi raid of the command ship?

I've heard about that scene multiple times.

If that scene was re-inserted then Dooku with a different lightsaber color probably wouldn't make sense.

If it's the same scene that I think you're talking about (the one with Ki-Adi-Mundi and Jedi storming the droid command center?), that scene would require A LOT of CG effects and audio work before it could be usable in the final film.

Written proof that you have no idea what I'm talking about. That sounds like first year film student talk. Let's leave this one right here, shall we?

I do understand what it is you'd like Dooku to be, sincerely I do. But I think you're either being hopelessly optimistic about what the plot can support or what you can achieve as fan editors.

It's kinda hard not to be hopelessly optimistic about achieving such a thing when I already proved that such a plot and character edit can be pulled off effectively!!!

Seriously, dude, you're the one who doesn't know what you're talking about. I'll say it again: go and watch a fanedit first and then decided whether or not the changes/edits works before you say that such edits are garbage, because otherwise you sound like a stubborn, narrow-minded purist.

The idea has been out there for some time for someone to try and do an ONE prequel film together using the three films.

The idea is that TPM with little Annie would essentially be a prologue and montage with then ROTS serving as the true time film with flashbacks to AOTC moments, etc.

Kinda like the old Godfather edit from the '90's where Coppola edited it together.

It's been done, more than once.

You said it.
