The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released)

I think it’s a nice scene overall, but as I stated a couple pages ago, it would suck to have yet another anti-climactic moment in a movie that is already full to the brim with them. And that scene in particular had a huge buildup which comes to a crashing halt in the name of a joke.

There is also the problem of missing visual effects that appear when Rey is running. This makes me wonder if it would be possible to remove that portion of the scene. That way, there aren’t missing visual effects and it doesn’t build up suspense for as long. I would personally be more interested in the scene then.

Regardless, this is probably best reserved for a TLJ thread.

Looks like I missed quite a bit here!

I’m fine with not using the line we created. At least we were able to test out what it would sound like if it were inserted.

I’m glad Hal is sticking with fear keeping him there. My understanding of it is that he was afraid of talking to his sister after what he did to her son. He was also afraid that the galaxy’s expectations of him were too great and that he would end up failing again. Both are definitely fear based.

It’s hard to imagine getting it to sound like it should. I’m not sure how to describe what I mean. It sounds like he’s reading from a list. “Lesson two, lesson three, lesson four…”

Funny, that’s actually what I was going for Hal lol.

He is supposed to be ripping off what his thing in TLJ was all about, while still tying it to what he’s trying to teach her.

I think “It was fear that kept me here” is better where it is than replacing it with “lesson three.” Fear did keep Luke there, after all. Fear that the Jedi have done more damage than good and need to die out (at the height of their power the Jedi created Darth Vader), fear of facing those he had failed (admitted as shame in the Ben flashbacks), fear of his own creations (it didn’t scare him enough then, it does now). His belief that his self-exile is a penance and a self-sacrifice means it’s not exactly “cowardice,” but it all still comes from a dark place of fear, from a certain point of view.

This.

Anyways, the line itself definitely sounds movie quality now. The trouble is fitting it comfortably into a place in the scene. I would like to see it done as a replacement of him saying “Rey”, but it would also be interesting to push his dialogue forward so it has room to breath in its current placement.

I agree as well, but that’s slightly out of my talents haha.

I tried your new line and it sounds completely natural now. But it does feel a little squished. Needs some space to breath.

id like to hear the newer version you made.

Did my own slight audio fade out only because the line is so squished into there.

Also Nev, I’m not entirely sure why you feel they are no longer a master/apprentice. She is still being taught by Leia, and if he weren’t dead, he would still be her master.

I kinda liked Babu Frik. Is the movie more effective with him not in the final battle?

I agree. The reason Hal removed him though is because in this edit Kijimi is not destroyed, so why should a mechanic who can’t fly a ship alone tag along on this battle?

Personally, I think including him would still work out. Maybe Babu wanted to be present with Zorri when they destroy the Final Order. Doesn’t necessarily mean that his world has been destroyed. And it is a shame that hilarious moment is removed.

You’re probably right Hal. I already got in contact with JX so no need for anyone else to. I just want to see what I can do with his audio is all.

For those curious, he took the “e” sound from “me” and placed it on the end of the original “three”. That’s why I thought it sounded different. Not sure why “lesson” doesn’t sound as good as it should but I’ll try some things when I get access.

I’m not sure where exactly Jxeditor got the “three” from in that video. It doesn’t sound like the one Luke says when he tells Rey he will teach her the ways of the Jedi (and why they must end). I could be wrong though.

I’ll try it out when I get the time to.

EDIT: JX is on these forums but his last login date was the first of this year. I could probably get his attention through a PM but I already left a comment on the YouTube video. Anyways, I’ll get back on this tomorrow if I have the time.

Last could work well, but it might be best to avoid the suggestion that ghost Luke will never teach her anything else again. I’d still be willing to try it though.

Do you know if he does actually say “third” at any point during the movie?

EDIT: Did another test. The inflection Mark does with the word “lesson” makes it so that it would only sound natural as the first part of the phrase. So it would have to be a word that makes sense after “lesson”.

I seem to recall seeing that as well, Brother. Unfortunately, I also remember thinking it didn’t sound good enough. Maybe whoever made it just didn’t take the right lines to create it?

Regardless, there are some talented people on here so if one of them wants to take a stab at making Luke say “Lesson Three” I’m sure it would end up sounding better.

EDIT: I’m also willing to experiment a bit and produce a rough draft if that’s needed.

Yeah I just thought I’d share that because it directly relates to the chapter you just shared.

I agree that it’s best to leave things between Lando and Jannah alone. But I do feel it would be an interesting concept for these ex-stormtroopers to try and piece together where their real family is. Like searching the First Order databases to see where they were taken from, etc.

But ultimately that is accomplished with Jannah alone, just thought it might be interesting to extend it to Finn.
