I just watched the film with my brother and his friend. They had the following feedback:

• Overall, a massive improvement over the original
• Would be interested in some sort of line which indicates the Republic is endlessly debating sending in support, thus why they never intervene.
• The Sith whispers may be a bit too subtle. I had to point it out to them.
• My brother would like to see some audio lines indicating what Rey is hearing in Kylo’s head about fearing not being as strong as Darth Vader. This would be similar to what Kylo hears in Poe’s head.
• Visually, Jakku may need to be more consistent. Although the morning and evening would adjust light levels, they think it makes it look like they’re on a completely different world at times.
• Humor has been trimmed very well, but my brother thinks you could have gone even further in a couple places. He didn’t elaborate lol.

That’s actually a fair point, Hal, come to think of it. Because when I applied the effeminate adjective to 3PO it radically changed the output. I could give it a shot.

It seems like such a small issue to me that I don’t know if it warrants creating a young Luke model for such a line. You’d have to skim through the originals and extract his dialog. Meh.

Don’t get me wrong, it would be cool to see! I’m just not interested in doing something like that myself.

Unless you would be okay with my current Mark voice profile? The problem is that his voice today is extremely different today than in the 70’s lol.

I think Obi-Wan being harsh to Anakin is good set up for Anakin’s whiny behavior about him throughout the movie, actually. But that is mostly edited out in an edit such as Hal’s. So your version would work best in an edit that follows his approach, for sure.

Does anybody have any plans on incorporating this in an edit? I know Bobson expressed interest in creating an AOTC ultra-extended edition (can’t wait for that!).

Anyway, I didn’t realize my post was gonna bring everything we just discussed to another page. Nev (and anyone else interested), we have Poe line options on the previous page. Lol.

This whole edit reminds me of how the original Star Wars was saved in the editing room. As I’m sure many of you are aware, originally the Death Star was just gonna be at some random point in space. Post production made it so that they were targeting Yavin.

I see this restructuring the same way. Suddenly, the heroes suffer a huge loss in their climactic battle and two of our lead heroes give into their fear and anger at the enemy in order to “win”. But at what cost? TLJ gives Poe a whole arc about thinking more tactically, and Rey all of TROS to grapple with her inner darkness.

The nice part is we are seeing that shot from the perspective of Poe’s cockpit, so you won’t have to apply a comm effect to it.

BTW, I mirrored the pilot shots and they looked fine to me.

Just finished watching through it all! Overall, magnificently done. It’s taken TFA from a 7/10 to an 8 or 9 in my books. I wanted to compile a list of feedback I had for v2:

• You can still hear the end of Han saying “Get outta there” in the Falcon
• I’m wondering if it might be worth it to just cut out “He worked on the base” from the end of Poe’s new line. We learn this information later, anyway.
• Snoke calls Kylo “Solo” at the end of their second meeting. There’s nothing particularly wrong with this, I’m just wondering why you chose to add this in. Was it him trying to get on Kylo’s nerves?
• I highly recommend applying a “mirroring” effect to the reaction shots of the pilots when Starkiller Base fires. They’re reused shots, but this effect may help in disguising that.
• I really enjoyed the scene in Hal’s edit where Hux suggests to Snoke that they target the Resistance base next. Also, that part that mentions how long it will be until it is recharged. It makes Poe’s attack on the oscillator much more than just an attempt at revenge. I would prefer it if this were reinstated.
• As I said before, I’m just curious if your goal was to have her Sith eyes for only that brief moment, or throughout the remainder of it? Because they don’t appear to be there except for the closeup shot. To make less work of this, perhaps they could fade out at a certain point.
• I would love some (more?) porg sounds on Ahch-To 😃

Just got the workprint. I haven’t had the opportunity to watch through the whole thing yet (I’ll get to that tomorrow!), but I couldn’t stop myself from looking at a few of the best parts.

I absolutely ADORE the new Sith eyes in the closeup shot. I’m just wondering if you’re considering enhancing their appearance throughout the remainder of the fight. I had a hard time telling if they were actually there or not.

I’m also wondering if I could give you an AI recording of Kylo saying “Forgive Me”. It’s probably because I’ve watched TFA so much, but it’s rather clear that it’s ripped from the Vader helmet scene. Maybe something like this:

As for those Leia lines, both of those were actually generated prior to adjectives being available. I believe I provided updated versions of them at some point, I’ll check the drive to see if they are there.

I could go in and generate them again to be more sad tomorrow. I did it for Sherlock already and it turned out great. I think I made a mistake by putting the “energetic” label on the voice, as that could explain why he perhaps seems a little too positive when speaking.

Yes. I was listening to the scene when generating these and I think they sound really close.

That feels like a detail our hypothetical visual dictionary could answer. What were his followers doing for the past 30 years? Modifying the weapon systems. That seems much more reasonable than building it all from scratch.

Alrighty, I’m pretty proud of my results here. I think with a tiny bit of mouth manipulation (if anybody knows how to do that) we could slide the first line in there. As for the second one, it’s just an easy replacement.

I could also do that. Try to generate a version of the line that sounds as close as possible to the original with that one word changed.

It seems to me like replacing “In sixteen hours, attacks on all free worlds begin” would be our best bet. Perhaps something like: “It’s an Imperial stockpile from the old war.”

Perhaps with a “loud” label. But it might introduce some weird speech patterns. I’d have to try it out. Also, if we aren’t happy with the speed at which he speaks, that would be due to the fact I applied a slow adjective to those generations. If we want him to speak faster, I can remove that label.

His entire Palpatine speech lacks emotion and energy imo. So we’re not really doing anything different than Lucasfilm decided to go with lmao.
