You know what, I never thought of it that way, but what you said actually makes perfect sense given what we know from just the film itself. He says to Kylo at the beginning, “Kill me, and my spirit will pass into you, as all the Sith live in me.” That sort of gives the impression that these cultists summoned the spirits of all the Sith from Force-hell and made them possess the body of a cloned Palpatine. So perhaps none of this was of his own doing, but rather entirely because Sith cultists saw the open power vacuum and leftover Empire ships and seized the opportunity.

I think v3 might help with this interpretation given the AI Poe dialog at the briefing. We shall see.

Watching the BoBF shot back is kinda weird compared to AOTC. Like, the background is kinda… wavy? compared to the original. Like it has heat mirages or something.

Come to think of it, this is probably because of the evolution of CGI. AOTC CGI looked really flat and kinda plain.

Woah that’s some really impressive VFX. I can see why it was cut out tbh. That’s some pretty brutal stuff for a prominent Jedi to do.

That being said, I would prefer it in an extended cut for sure.

It’s coming from the same guy who said “Only a Sith deals in absolutes”. Perhaps he does have an issue with hypocrisy. And does that justify Anakin’s rage at him? Idk, I appreciate these kind of complex character perspectives. It’s like Luke in TLJ. We can see that he was wrong in his thinking, but we can also sit back and be like: “Hey, he kind of had a point there about the Jedi.”

The music cues are absolutely brilliant. Nicely done.

What exactly is wrong with “Your need for victory, Anakin, it blinds you”? I took it to mean that a fight still isn’t over even though an opponent is disarmed. Seems like a valuable lesson for a Padawan, but it could be interpreted in a way that he is being too harsh on him and “holding him back”.

The way I understand it, the end of the fight will remain clunky like that unless it’s reinstated.

So not an “extended cut” per se, but I’m cooking something. I’ve tackled this movie twice in the past and never been happy with it, but between the serious picture improvement of the deleted scenes via AI, the material from the Kenobi show, and my own improvement as an editor, I think I’m ready to give it another go.

I’m interested! I personally think the best cut would keep some of Anakin’s “whiney” scenes, include a lot of the deleted scenes along with this scene, while removing the cringe love scenes in a similar way to Hal 9000’s TAS.

I don’t know what those creators did exactly with the label and voice description features. But in my experience they can’t salvage a voice clone, they just give you better results more often. You’d still have to do a number of generations for each line before getting something that sounds 100% good. Unless you get lucky, of course.

I think a big reason why those sound realistic is because the voice was taken right from the movies, likely using AI to isolate it. But yes, the things I mentioned beforehand would help the AI with tone and cadence.

Yes, you need to add labels with the appropriate adjectives and I also recommend generating a description of the way the character speaks with ChatGPT. You can put that paragraph into the feature right below the labels.

The emphasis on “release” might make the first line too long, but I really liked the delivery of it otherwise. I’m having a hard time generating one that has the same delivery but less emphasis.

I like the idea of 3PO thinking he’s there to negotiate peacefully, only to suddenly realize the humans are blasting their way through everything.

How does this sound: “I am here to negotiate for one ‘Chewie’”

That way he still remains an unknown to him without the line getting too long.

I’d love for his follow up line to be a callback to episode II: “Oh my! That was rather aggressive for negotiations!”

It’s up to Hal to decide what works best for the Rey Nobody cut. The stuff I’ve submitted thus far is for the main cut, but I’m sure some of it could be used there, too.

I’ve already shared my audio source files with a few people in the community, so I’m sure they could use the voices to make the Nobody cut better. I’m thinking mostly of the Kylo Ren voice in saying that. I feel like it could be used to great effect in the hangar scene.

I believe that’s everything for v3 needed then? Hopefully it’s ready for May 4! 😉

Eh after listening to what we currently have enough I’m not sure it’s worth doing with AI. Too much effort and an extremely small chance we’d actually end up with something better.

EDIT: Ultimately, comparing it to what we currently have, there’s no way an AI line could ever be as “breathy” as the current iteration. Rey is out of breath and exhausted while saying it, none of these seem to convey that.

Personally, I like the first one’s delivery the best. It’s the same line recommendation that krlozdac gave, so that’s an additional plus.

That Poe line would definitely work pretty well. I’ll just set up his model again (it got deleted by accident).

I’m currently generating a bunch more 3PO lines. Eleven labs introduced a feature that lets you describe the voice with a paragraph, so I asked GPT-4 to describe his voice and put that in there. The results appear to be a bit better. I’ll post what I can later today.
