If that were the case, there would have been an early DVD release with the '97 SE, then later on they would have done their "restoration" box-set release with the 2004 revisions, and THEN the next release with the GOUT. And there would already be a Blu-Ray release. Waiting until the next format is almost ready to take over before releasing the movies doesn't reek of wanting all our money.

But that begs the question of what exactly Lucas' motives were in waiting so long in releasing the OT on DVD, and then doing it without bothering to make sure the quality is up to par.

I don't think it is about money, it's about laziness and not caring.

To all you poeple who have a problem with me, really, what is it that I am doing that is so offensive/annoying? I'm just asking questions. There's problably a good handfull of you that already ignored me so hopefully someone will reply with this quote so you can all see it, but I want to know what it is I am doing that is so annoying? Which books do you suggest I read? I'm not into the EU or the prequels, strictly OOT. I've tried to indulge in Star Wars books a few times, but never got anywhere with them.

Here's a line I don't understand:

We saw Luke and Vader get struck down and that didn't make them any more powerful.

Why does Han smile after Obi Wan says: only passengers, myself, the boy, two droids, and no questions asked? Always seemed to me like an inappropriate facial gesture for that moment. I always thought he should have given a serious look in that shot.

One thing I'm curious of. If Adywan was to "redo" ANH:R using the German HD source instead of the DVD source, how much work would this be?

I'm assuming it wouldn't just be a case of replacing the original source video file with the new one, and all the changes are not simply "overlays" for lack of a better word.

In premiere, for example, if I was to edit using a video file and then changed the file's location, premiere would then ask me to direct it to the file. If I were to direct it to a different file which was the same video but higher quality, all these changes would be applied in exactly the same way but I'd end up with a better quality version.

What I'm pondering is, would adywan be able to simply direct the program to the German HD source instead of the original, and still retain all or most of the changes in his project.

A long shot I know. My knowledge of after effects is limited, so I don't know whether it actually alters the source video when using it, or adds new overlays (or whatever you'd call them) to your timeline.

Sorry if I'm not making myself very clear.

 

EDIT: Also, this is in no way a request for Adywan to actually redo ANH:R. I understand how annoying such requests can be. I'm simply curious about how the process works, is all :)

Now these German HD broadcasts are like 16.5GB right? I thought Adywan did use that for his revisited project and sized it down to DVD specs for mass distribution.

We never see the Death Star go into or come out of hyperspace. It doesn't look like it has the capability to do that, but it must if it travels that quickly. I was thinking that maybe the Star Destroyers pull it, but that would have to be some pretty strong chains/rope to pull something that big at lightspeed. 

I think this line should be removed:

Wookies are known to do that? What? Is this like some kind of innate trait that all wookies have? We don't need to be told "wookies are known to do that." It is excessive and sounds like prequel George Lucas dialog. I was hoping to hear this gone in Revisited.

If they used the '97 restoration (or destruction, depending on your point of view), why did the colors get all fucked up in the DVDs? I don't recall the color being messed up in the '97 version, although it has been awhile since I've seen it.

As bad as the '04 version was, they were still good enough for Adywan to fix to what I think is good enough to please just about everyone.

I think it would make the characters look completely stupid especially luke for even getting near the executioner. Plus the Empire has control of Cloud City so what more could you want. Boarding the Executioner is something that luke would not do in this point in his training. Plus ady isn't going to the trouble to redo all of those BEAUTIFUL Cloud City shots just to have the executioner in the city. Cloud City is a gas mining facility. So what is the problem with the Carbon Freezing Chamber ran by uganaughts being in cloud city. Answer Nothing. Moving all of that onto the Executioner just for shits and giggles is pointless. It makes no logical sense. And it makes a big plot hole in the film. I think they would see that big assed ship coming before anything could happen. After all han and leia go to cloud city in the hopes of no imperial entanglements so it is better that the empire hides in the shadows on this one. Makes a better suprise when vader is at the table. If it aint broke............

You know what guys, after looking at the sets again, you're right, it's an asinine idea. For some reason I thought the lighting patterns used were the same as in the Death Star, but I guys not. Just forget I ever said it.

I've been working on making my own DVD collection that contains every version of the OT that I desire. My DVD collection will go like this: ANH: first disc: Adywan Revisited, Second disc: Purist Version, Third disc: GOUT, Forth disc: Deleted Magic. ESB: first disc: Revisited (when finished), Second Disc: Pursit (or GOUT if there isn't one), Third Disc: Building Empire. ROTJ: first disc: Revisited (when finished), Second disc: Pursist or GOUT, Third disc: Returning to Jedi and then the bonus disc from the '04 DVD will be included too.    

I will convert the GOUT to anamorphic and burn them again. It sounds like the GOUT is still the best source of the classics. OPCmovie's classic versions sound pretty good, but ChainsawAsh said they are buggy.

Funny thing is, the only official thing from Lucasfilm that I am including in my set is the bonus DVD and even that, I'm a little reluctant to include. It only has trailers and the Empire of Dreams documentary with a lot of icky SE footage, and most of the stuff in that is covered in Deleted Magic and more thoroughly.

I do, most likely as the season premiere of season 8 this fall.

One thing I never understood, why would they put this carbon freezing chamber in the middle of cloud city? If they use this for mass production, wouldn't it be smarter to put it in a large hanger where they have easy access to it? Why would they put stairs around it? Why not make it level so they don't have to hall things up and down stairs everytime they want to carbon freeze something? That is like putting a grand piano store at a kiosk.

Remember that after Luke gets away from being frozen in carbonite, the battle moves around the dark places near the base of Cloud City. This ultimately culminates in Luke's arm getting cut off and him falling to the weather antennae on the underbelly of the structure- Not the underbelly of the Executer.  

The background would need an overhaul, the background would have to be repainted to look like the belly of the Executor, but I think Adywan has the skills to make it happen.

Thank you. I'm really not trying, my texting and messages seem to personify that image though. I knew asking Adywan about the credits would be a mistake. The fact that I was already walking on thin ice and then ask that really gives me the image of a sock, but I'm not. I wish I didn't fit the profile of a troll who used lurk around here.

I just got back from playing tennis, Adywan still hasn't replied, I hope this doesn't mean I'm on his ignore list now.

I've had this idea for a long time and you guys probably won't like it, but I will suggest it anyway.

To fix the issue of some of the sets of cloud city looking like they belong to the empire, lets actually have it be part of the empire!

The carbon freezing chamber looks like something the empire would have. Lets have the carbon freezing chamber aboard the Executioner instead of cloud city.   

We'll just made a scene where we see the Executioner parked outside of cloud city. They aboard the ship and they have their little party there instead. We'll have to change some dialog around to make this work. The carbon freezing chamber is no longer experimental to humans (what the heck do they use that for anyways?), the empire uses it to torture people.

Adywan, I will paypal you some money, because I have been planning on contributing to your project for awhile. I'm not bribing you to put my name back in the credits, but I hope you reconsider.
