Why was the '04 DVD set such a botched release?
Time

Negtive1, most of us here don't have skills or time to do restorations of the movies like you do. Even if we do, some of us choose not to aquire the skills to do video editing work. We just want Star Wars to get the restoration respect it deserves. I am greatful that there are a lot of people on this board who have the skills and desire to do the work of preseving and editing the films to their taste. Lucasfilm has all the best resources to do this work so why shouldn't we bitch, especilly when he can do this for profit while we have to do this for free, even though it seems most of you don't want money out of this (even though I think you deserve it).

Oh, I think we're going to get a depression within the next 4 years. I don't think there's any question of that. But I agree that if McCain knew what to do, if he surrounded himself with people that knew what to do, he could stand a chance to start digging us out of this hole we're in.

I'd say we're in a depression right now (considering elements like inflation which mask it). The government just wants everyone to suffer (and not the people who made the poor investments).

The econemy goes up and down all the time, is this really that unusual?

A lot of people mix up LucasArts with Lucasfilm. Lucasfilm is the company that does movies/tv shows of star wars. LucasArts is the company that does videogames of star wars. Of course, I'm sure sometimes they get a little help from eachother. But looking at the prequels, I think you could catagorize those as videogame/movie hybrids from both companies.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

Adywan, why did you change the alderaan explosion? I liked the previous one better. You should've used this one. When you get to the ROTJ, please take out the celebrations outside of Endore. I don't want to be reminded of those. Of course, irt's your decsision, but I'm just warning you ahead of time I think a lot of fans here would like to see the extra celebrations on different planets at the end of ROTJ gone.

My Blade Runner Final Cut Four-Disc Collector's Edition is in Letterbox?
Time

On the back of my Blade Runner 4 disc box set in the lower part in the aspect detail it says this: WIDESCREEN VERSION PRESENTED IN A "LETTERBOX" WIDESCREEN FORMAT PRESERVING THE "SCOPE" ASPECT RATIO OF ITS ORIGINAL THEATRICAL EXHIBITION. ENHANCED FOR WIDESCREEN TVS. When I watch it on my widescreen TV it doesn't have the black bars on all four sides like the GOUT. How is this letterbox and not anamorphic when it is stretched to fit the screen?

That brings me back to the quality control issues. It seemed as though Lucas just greenlit the 2004 releases at the last possible minute in order to make the release window. And so everything, including the digital restoration, color timing, sound mix, etc. were all rushed into production. It didn't help that Lucas likes to change things as they go along, adding new CGI shots, etc. When color timing the film, they probably didn't use a source print as reference and instead asked Lucas what he wanted in each shot. After working on the prequels, he probably saw the opportunity to make the OT look more modern and hence the crazy color timing.

Well that, was then and this is now. Instead of re-releasing the same rushed to the market version four times in a row now, why did't he get back to work and perfect it?

Adywan, do your new HD ersions have better picture quality than you revisits? Obviously they do or you wouldn't have them separate. But to this day the best source of SW is the '04 DVDs right, all thius HD stuff isn't SW in True HD. It's artificial HD, because there is n way to truely get better picture quality from DVDs right?

Adywan, I read back in one of your '06 posts that you had a hard drive failure and lost work. That sucks. Your probably way ahead of me on this, but you should have multiple hard drives set up in a raid array (raid 1) to mirror your work on two seperate drives, it is designed to automatically switch to the other drive if one drive fails. So you get that backup insurance. If you still have that drive that failed, the data on the platters is still probably good, just the mechanisms that read the data have just broke. If you take it to a repare place, the can probably replace the broken parts in the drives and recovver your data on the platters.

Thanks for doing that. I thought the point of that change was to fix the continuity error of the star destoyers not visable in the previous shot of the millenium falcon flying by. Though Adywan probably could've added them that way too so I still prefer the original shot. The star destroyers look pointed too far to the right from wherethe falco nwas, and it took a turn to the left apon seeing the star destroyer. Maybe reverse that shot Adywan and the direction of the two star destroyers will look more correct?

Nobody answered my question about -Who did the restoration of the movies? Was LFL the ones who restored the movies or did they have a separate company restore them. When they did the '04 DVD restoration, did they restore the OOT film prints and then reinsert the '97 SE changes to that, or did they just work with the '97 prints and expand from them?

The most godawful sequel?
Time

All the prequels and special editions, if you consider them different movies, I do.

Yeah what eveyone else said, they beat me to the punch

Oh, don't forget Men in Black 2, that's a real stinker, though I only saw like 20 minuets of it on TV

Charlies Angels 2, though the first one was bad, this was a train wreck

I didn't even see these but I'm sure the Fantastic 4 movies suck

All the Hulk movies

Oh and The Dark Knight ;-)

What DVD software do you recommend using for beginners?
Time

I am a beginner and I would just like to get the hang of copying frames from movies and posting them on these forums. Right now I have CyberpowerDVD trial version. I am reluctant to buy it because it is $60 and I want to find out which is the best DVD software for beginners before I buy one. My OS is Windows XP Media center 2005 Edition but the DVD software that comes with it needs a DVD decoder, I don't understand why it didn't come with one and it seems like BS to me. I have a photobucket account. So what DVD software do you recommend for beginners?

Once I get proficient, I want to set up a raid array with two hard drives in the raid 1 for protection of my pictures etc. But I think you have to start with a fresh windows install if you want to do that. Right now I am using a hard drive that will be used as a backup and I'm hoping whatever I download on this hard drive I can bridge to my raid array once I get it going.

I'm still a little confused about this anamorphic issue.
Time

I watch widescreen movies on my fullscreen TV in my bedroom all the time and all of them appear in widescreen with black bars on top and bottom to obviously make the widescreen fit the space of the TV and these movies I watch are all anamorphic widescreen. But oddly, so of them say Letterbox. Like the four disc Blade Runner DVD set. I will take a picture of the back of the box and post it on here to show you.

Yeah, something like that. I'm not good at explaining things visually with text, but the ships just looked more menacing in the original shot. Something about the angle of the heading up towards the screen, instead of across the screen gives a more menacing effect and the music as well really worked with the shot. KI'll post some comparason shots when I get a hang of this video software.
