Y'all better vote for Obama!
Time

I don't care whether you're a republican, independant, conservative, constitutionalists, facist, whatever, we need reform in washington and only Obama has the determination to make it happen. If you find his policies too liberal, too extreme, whatever, too bad, you're just going to have to live with him because he is the best chance we got. We all can't get what we want. But there is one thing we cannot have and that is 4 more years of Bush's disaterous econmomic policies. This is not a choice between a nickle or dime of a difference, our future depends on Barak Obama and whether he is good enough for you or not he is our only chance to make our future brighter and to shapen up washington and get fiscal responcibilty back in office.

We should sue George Lucas.
Time

Go ahead, look for lawyers on google. You don’t have any jurisdiction to sue George Lucas for this. He owns the rights to almost everything Star Wars and they’re not for sale. He can release the movies anyway he wants to or not at all, it is his choice. Unless you're a billionare also, he has an army of lawyers and would laugh in your face if you try to sue him for this.

The motto here is to handle this diplomatically. The idea here is we will attract more bees with honey instead of vinegar. There still is a chance, however unlikely that George Lucas will give us a proper release of the OT in his upcoming Blu-ray set. Since 2004 a lot of fans have gotten proactive about this dilemma and made their own edits, you can find some at fanedit.org and Adywan's HD version you can find at newsgroups. If we lose our composure of handling this diplomatically it will reduce our chances even further. Unless you can get into Lucas Ranch (or wherever he is living now) hold a gun to his head and threaten him to release the OOT anamorphic widescreen, I don’t think any of this flaming is going to help us. But I don’t know why I’m wasting my time with you, you’re obviously a troll, the moderators should be banning you any moment now.

Dude, you obviously have no interest in staying here or you have been living under a rock a very long time. This is incredibly old news. If you posted this in ’04 then this might’ve been accepted as relevant. If you are interested in staying here (which I doubt you are) you should read up on this board before you start spewing a bunch of anger. It’s has been done plenty of times before. Nobody cares what you think by the way. Flaming is against the TOS and going to get you banned in a nano second. I have been here awhile and this board is full of conservatives not very tolerant of newbies and ignorance. I could’ve sworn there was someone awhile ago here who suggested we should sue George Lucas before. Hmmm… I wonder who that could be?

Apparently there were message boards discussing the OT back in '83.
Time

1983, 5 years before I was born, I never thought the internet as we know it existed before '92 but now I find out not only did it exist but there were forums discussing the OT back then!

Read this forum.

I would like to see what these Usenet forums looked like and what people were discussing in forums about the OT before it was even complete. Do you people know anymore about this? On the official site back in I think it was '01 they did an april fools joke where for the day they had a retro 1980 official site webpage showing news and discussion of the ESB in the making and the next day they said it was fake and the internet didn't exist back then. But I guess they were wrong. I assume this Usenet was very primative by today's standard and you could only send text form one computer to another and there was no fancy forum GUI and such.

African Queen: The Paranoid Mullings of a Fan Editor
Time

I thought The African Queen was that movie that came out in 2004 or 2005 and that big black dude won best actor award. Does anyone know what movie I'm talking about? I thought the movie idustry was quite liberal about putting movies on DVD. A lot of movies they put on DVD people don't care about.

I found the black dude on imdb.com. His name is Forest Whitaker. He plays some dictator of an African country and I'm pretty sure the movie came out in 2004 or 2005 but I can't find it on imdb.com. Does anybody know what movie I'm talking about?

DEBATE ROUND TWO!

Well it's time for McCain Obama ROUND 2! I think we've all been let down by McCain's performance in the polls this week, and it sure seems like he's going to have to take drastic measures tonight.  Here's what I hoping to see, or at least something close.

McCain should open with multiple Bill Ayers references.  Once he gets Obama a little flustered, he should just throw the Michelle Obama whitey tape out there.  Not that he should attest to it's authenticity, just put it on the table.  Once things calm down he should start in with the lapel pin stuff, and transition from that directly into the National Anthem hand over heart stuff.  Finally McCain is going to need to find a way to describe Obama as Muslim without out actually coming out and accusing him.  Maybe he should tell a story about Obama's Muslim father where he talks about Obama living overseas and accidentally refers to Obama as Osama.  Ooops!  Anyway lets home McCain does some of this stuff.

why is this in black?

Rob, what did you think of the debates so far? I don't think Obama or McCain is our strongest canadidates we ever had but I think Obama is good enough and will do fine. I actually thought John Kerry was a stronger speaker in the '04 town hall format. I find it amazing that these two guys are the best this country has to offer with the crisis we're going through?

A little bit of socialism goes a long way in this counrty. You people frown on socialism like we shouldn't have any, but I think it helps the econemy because it keeps the poor and middle class afloat. Without the help of wellfare, social security, these people would be either living on the streets or even more conservative and not play a role in our econemy. By giving them a piece of the pie so to speak we make our econemy stronger. It's not like people get a comfrable life on wellfare. Doesn't it pay people like $400 a month for an individual?

You apparently don't know very many senior citizens or how conservative they can be.  Most anyone on a fixed income (Social Security, pension, 401k) is pretty conservative on how they spend their money.  They don't spend it on frivolous things, but that doesn't mean they aren't playing a role in the economy either.

Welfare, Social Security, and even a pension isn't suppose to make life "comfortable".  It's suppose to make life liveable.  The entire reason for putting money into a "retirement account" is so you can continue to live some kind of reduced lifestyle once you retire.  By reduced, I mean having enough money to eat and pay regular bills, but not necessarily go out and have fun all the time.  You'll possibly also have enough money to do a lot of travelling once you retire as well, as long as you save that money in your younger years and don't spend it frivolously.

Back in the mid 90's (I think), the Republicans wanted to cut the amount that Social Security would be increased.  As an example, let's say it goes up 4% every year.  They wanted to make it 2% per year.  The Democrats pushed the idea that the Republicans wanted to "cut" social security.  This had a lot of senior citizens fuming.  The Republicans didn't seem to respond and it took the conservative talk radio shows to tell people what was really going on.  I don't remember the outcome, but that's not really the point.  The point is that senior citizens don't like it when you try to cut social security.  They also happen to be the most consistent voting block of people in the country.  In a nutshell, you don't screw with the programs those people depend on and expect to hold your office.

Some conservatives do view social security as welfare though (it essentially is).  It also happens to be a pyramid scheme that would be illegal if it wasn't done by the government.  When it was first created, very few people were expected to make it to the retirement age.  Now that people are living so long, almost everyone lives to retirement age.  The reason the system is breaking down is because there simply aren't enough people paying into it anymore to support the number of people retiring.  It was flawed from the get go and needs a serious overhaul.

The poor and middle class aren't really kept afloat by socialism.  They're kept in place.  The more they earn, the more they're taxed, the more they have to struggle to get ahead.  By lowering taxes, you allow more people to move from lower to middle and middle to upper classes.  When they can do that, they have a much easier time getting by without government assistance and they're able to get ahead quicker.

I always here how social security isn't going to be around when us echo boomers and generation x's go to retirement. But I read that the system is projected to be fine until 2042 and even then the change need to keep social security working with the income they promise you is not going to be hard to adjust. But I read this back in February or March and that was before the stock market crash and weakening econemy. All these conservatives seem to want to make us think that the system needs to be "changed" but it is just an excuse to put it stock market or something, give it a way to filter back to the rich.

Anybody here try low carb diets?
Time
Darth Yub Nub said:

Ok, here goes nothing. First and foremost the false belief that a high fat and protein diet is harsh on the human kidneys is based on one study done many years ago that showed that a high protein diet was harsh on the kidneys. Unfortunately there was one little flaw in the study.... The subjects studied ALREADY HAD PRE-EXISTING KINDEY DISEASE! It has been proven time and time again through numerous studies that a high protein and fat (ketogenic) diet has no negative effects on the kidneys in healthy individuals. Especially athletes (bodybuilders) who need more protein for their particular endeavour. Now there is also a misconception when you they "no carb diet" Broccoli is a carb, so is cake, now is broccoli bad for you body? It is virtually impossible to eat completely carb free.

What I'm preaching is the types of carbs. Now any type of green leafy vegetables are fine. As are some fruits. Ask yourself which is better for you a banana or an apple. They both seem healthy and they are. But, the apple is a much better choice because it has a very high water and fiber content which would cause little or no effect in causing an insulin spike which is what leads to body fat over time (constant insulin spikes) from all the sugar/carbs we eat. The banana on the other hand would cause a similar reaction as a baked potato or piece of bread.

When the carbs you eat are fibrous and contain larger amounts of water they do not have a negative effect on the ketone burning effect. Now, very simply put when you remove all carbs/sugars from your diet for a period of about 5-7 days all of the stored up glycogen/glucose/sugar that your body has stored up in the liver and muscle tissues will be used up. Then your body which is constantly in need of energy says "Hmm no more carbs what do I use for energy? " Well your body being the amazing, efficient machine it is decides "Well he's feeding me a lot of fat so I'll start using fat for fuel." This is due to the over abundance of fat floating around in the body. It's free fuel and the body Knows it and takes advantage of it.

Now fat is a very smooth and evenly burning fuel but it also burns very quickly (like when you drip grease on a fire). So when the food you ingest cannot cover the energy needs of your body do you think it just stops until you feed it more. Nope it says "well I'm in fat burning mode so I need some more fat to burn" Well guess where it comes from. Your bodyfat reserves. Thats right Ketosis is the breaking down of bodyfat by the body to be circulated in the blood as Ketones which is what it is using for fuel. This can be done to gain mass by adding more calories daily just like any other diet.

Or for maintenance or for weight loss. Just eat like ORIGINAL MAN that is how we are wired at a DNA level. Hunt and gather not sit on your butt and farm. Answer me this? Find me anyone who knows squat about nutrition that can tell you that the following foods are bad. Lean Beef, Tuna, Chicken, Fish, Nuts, Cottage Cheese. Or perhaps these Olive oil, Flax oil, Avacados, Fish oil. Or Green leafy vegetables, cucumbers, celery, brocoli, cauliflower, apples, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, grapes. Now why would anyone recommend these. Cake, cokes, candy, rice , corn, bread, potatos, pasta, .

Now I know some of these may not seem bad a first but once in the body they all end up being converted into the same thing sugar, glucose, glycogen. They all require high amounts of insulin to process. They are high in calories and all of these leftover sugar calories once not needed for energy are guess what? STORED AS BODYFAT! Also sugar is a very streaky souce of energy unlike the sustained energy you get from fat. Why is America the fattest country in the world? Because we love our carbs. Oh and why have we gotten fatter since the low-fat craze hit the supermarkets 20 yrs ago? What do you think they replaced the fat with? CARBS! Once again look a indiginous people of the world (what few are left) they are lean, and live without cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc. and if they do not get killed by malaria, smallpox, or a wild animal they live long healthy lives. They hunt meat and gather nuts, some fruits, and berries.

Also, until the white man put them on the reservations American Indians lived primarily on Buffalo meat and nothing else. They were also lean and disease free till us settlers came along. EAT LIKE A CAVEMAN and you will be lean, muscular, strong, and healthy. It is a lifestyle not a diet. Oh and on a final note you get all of the necessary vitamins, minerals, photochemical and fiber your body wiil ever need from the fruits and vegetables I mentioned above so don't fall into the belief that a ketonogenic diet will leave you deficient of certain nutrients it won't.

Another thing people don't do in regards to this type of diet. I too made the same mistake. They don't give it long enough to work its magic. I have been doing it for over 2 years now and it honestly took about 8 months to kick in. Sure I lost a lot of weight in the first few months but at around the 8th month not only had I lost a lot of body fat my body started to re-composition itself. I looked lean and hard and big. I gained over an inch on my arms while my waist was shrinking. I got stronger than I had ever been. Set new PR's on the big three.

And I had so much energy I felt like I was on speed. This is why I say it is not a diet it is a lifestyle. It takes quite awhile to exert it's amazing effects. I won't lie it was tough going for about 6 months but now I never crave carbs. Remember, the reason it takes awhile is that you are switching from the sugar burning metabolism you have lived on for all of the years of your life and now turning your body into a fat burning metabolism. That takes awhile for the body to reverse and become acclimated to. Like switching a gas pick-up into a diesel pick-up it's a pretty big switch to make so be a patient mechanic.

There were a few other factors. I completely quite every bad habit that I had. No more alcohol, tobacco, or prescription drugs. I became a complete health nut. Now the Ketonoginic diet is almost exclusively used by most people for weight loss purposes only. But, it is actually a highly ANABOLIC diet when you eat a surplus of calories over your daily maintenance level. Just as someone eating carbs would. Think about it meat has amazing anabolic properties. High end steak especially. 8 months is the magic point for transformation to occur. Other than weight/fat loss I was weaker, flatter, smaller, and not too motivated to go to the gym (no energy) but then around the sixth month I woke up one morning and felt like a new man. Full of energy, strong feeling, muscles started to look harder, and more normal (fuller). Gradually I began to experiment adding in a few more foods like certain fruits and occasionally a small amount of naturally oatmeal.

Well I still ate mostly carb free. When I did add in these things it was only at breakfast. Well a funny thing happened. I stayed very lean BUT! I started gaining weight and getting bigger. Not much but enough to be noticeable. Sure enough my measurements proved me right. My waist was staying the same but my chest went up an inch, my thighs 2 inches, and my arms an inch. This diet takes time to exert it's effect. Your body is overcoming years of eating and burning sugar/carbs for fuel. Oh, I am also full of energy now and am much stronger on all my lifts. Let me give you the diet that I eat almost every day. It changes a little but mostly it's the same.

Breakfast shake- 16 oz water, 3 raw eggs, 1 scoop whey, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1tbsp olive oil, 1 cup of frozen blueberries.

Snack- 16 oz water 40 grams of whey. Also 1/2 cup of natural almonds or walnuts

Lunch- 1 large bag of Albacore Tuna in water, 25 grams of whey in water, and 2 tbps natural peanut butter.

Snack- 16 oz water 40 grams of whey 2 tbsp of olive oil, and an apple.

before work out
drink a shake of 2 scoops of whey isolate in water and 2 tbsp of natural peanut butter.

Post workout- 16 oz water 50 grams of Hydrolized whey Isolate and about 6 Large fresh straberries. Also a vitamin E , C , Zinc , Magnesium, and Calcium.

Dinner- 12 oz Ribeye steak, and a HUGE salad. As much as you can eat. Spinach leafs, romaine lettuce, a large cucumber, brocoli, cauliflower, celery, walnuts sprinkled on top (about 1/4 cup) NO DRESSING! Maybe a tad of olive oil. Usually just raw though.

Bedtime - 16 oz water 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 3 raw eggs, and 25 grams of whey, also 2 tsp of pysillium fiber.

I also take a multi-vitamin in the morning, and 3 fish oils with each feeding.
Occasionally in the morning shake (I mean once every 2 weeks) I will also add in 1/2 cup of raw oats.

Now is this a completely no carb diet. No but look at the carbs I do eat mostly raw veggies and some fruit. Also remember I went 6 months on a stricter version of this with no fruit or any other carbs before starting this which is what I consider my MASS diet. I have never been this lean, big, or strong in all my 20 years of training( I tried carb bulk ups and everything). I am also full of energy. Remember though I am now going on 2 years of this. I am not huge by any stretch of the imagination but I do at least look like a bodybuilder now.

I am 6' tall I weigh 215 lbs I have a 31" waist, a 50" chest, 26" legs (I know they are my weak point) and 18" arms. When I started this lifestyle change I weighed 235 with a 48-49" chest, 24" legs, and 17" arms. Oh and a 38" waist. Trust me it didn't happen overnight. Like I said most people don't give this diet enough time. Other than weight/fat loss I got nothing real good from it for 6 months. Then it took another 2 months before it got Really Good.

Now, I'm hooked for life baby. I just began my summer lean down and removed all the fruit and lowered my calories a bit and I have already gotten leaner in 2 weeks easier than I ever have before. Funny thing is I haven't lost in size or strength and it's been 18 days already. I now have veins showing on my abs at 205 lbs DRUG FREE! For me thats something thats never happened before no matter how hard I dieted or worked out.

Try the keto diet, combined with heavy weight lifting (rippoe-toe)its the best diet there is.

That said everyone is different and you have to find what works for YOU

Keto - Bodybuilding.com Forums

Dang man, you're really dedicated. I found it hard to stay under 20 grams of carbs a day (as the Atkins diet suggests) even when just eating beff jerky and cashews all day. Yeah I read about how a low carb diet changes your blood composition from using insulin to burn calories to using Ketones which burn body fat and not muscle tissue. Correct me if I'm wrong, but on a high carb diet, when your body runs out of carbs it starts burning muscle tissue instead of fat, while low carb diet trains your body to burn fat and leave muscle alone. Do you still have to pay attention to calories on a low carb diet? They said you don't because low carb foods tell your body to be full much more effectively than high carb foods and even if you over eat you will still lose weight because you keep the ketones working. I just didn't realize how long I should expect it to take to change my body chemistry from insulin to ketones. The Atkins diet say you should restrict carbs to 20 grams for two weeks and then you can gradually increase. I don't like the thought of 8 months. Even then, if you start eating high carb again you will change your body chemistry back to insulin right?

Other websites like amazon.com?
Time

One thing frustrating about buying things online is a lot of times they don't carry everything you want at one store or they are at different warehouses and the items are sent individually. I like to make orders that can all come in one box. Sometimes one arrives in 3 days while the other takes two weeks. Are there other websites like amazon.com where you can subscribe and save to a product where they automatically send a new shipment of the item in intervals you select and you get free shipping and a discount on price?

That is why it doesn't work man, if you break down and start eating carbs, your not really on a low carb diet. I personally know a few people who have had great success with this diet, but they all gained the weight back later. That is the problem with any diet, and why none of them really work. A diet is a temporary change in lifestyle and eating habbits, so it should be no surprise to most people when the results are also temporary. The best way to loose weight and stay healthy is to exercise. Nobody wants to hear that, but it is the truth. Laziness and weightloss being compatible is a myth, or if you do manage to find away, it probably isn't something very healthy for you (drugs, parasite, etc.).

Just try walking for an hour a day, it isn't the best exercise program out there, but you'd be surprised how much it helps when your body is used to sitting around and being inactive all day. An hour a day seems like a long time, but it really isn't. Just find a nice park nearby or an area you like and start walking, the hour will be over before you know it. It is a good time for thinking, but if you must, grab a pair of headphone and a music player. On top of the hour a day, watching what you eat wont hurt. If you are quite over weight, it probably means you eat considerably more than you actually need. Eat the things you enjoy, but eat them in smaller quantities. Limit the amount of "crap" you eat as well, don't indulge in donuts or fast food all the time, once or twice a month is okay, but if you make it a daily or weekly habit, you are just hurting yourself. Coca-Cola, and other pop/soda/whatever you want to call it, it also pure crap. If you are a soda drinker, dropping that out of your life will be a big improvement.

It is really sad to see so many people in their college years being so overweight, and then to see them spend their freetime sitting around playing video games and having contests to see who can eat the most pizza in the cafe just so they can brag "I ate 17 slices!!!". Once you get older, you'll find that weight nearly impossible to loose, while right now it is not as hard as you think.

Don't diet, be active and cut back. If you want the weight loss to last, don't do it temporarily, but make it part of your lifestyle.

I'm way ahead of you. I'm 6'2" and about 190 lbs. I'm a little overweight but not nearly obese. I feel I have a body type that wants to be overweight. My body yearns to gain weight. For the past month and a half I've been going for 3-5 mile jogs everyday, sometimes I have done it twice a day. When I don't jog I try to do push-ups and sit-ups in my room. Plus I work at grocery store and I am on my feet all day walking around the store and carrying heavy stuff all the time. I try to be conservative with my caloric intake but I usually end up eating until I'm full. I seldom drink pop and I avoid sugary foods except for my gummies. I really feel like I should be in better shape than I am.

If you ask me they don't work. All I do is crave carbs all day. I recently stocked up on beef jerky, peanuts, and cashews. I tried to keep my carb intake under 20 grams a day but usully around 8 o'clock I give up and start eating all the carbs I want. I'm hoping if I stick with it I get usded to it soon and stop craving carbs. Anyone else try this diet and what was you experience?

Did we do that? I don't remember signing that petition. LOL.

You can read the full petition through the link I posted in my OP.

It is in the second to last paragraph:

"Furthermore, we understand that you have commercial concerns and that you need to consider the financial viability of any home video product that you release. Perhaps a Limited Edition run of the original films along with a Special Edition release would be in order. This approach would sate niche market demand, while still targeting the general public and no doubt breaking home video sales records. We want it to be known that there is enormous demand for the original theatrical versions of the films. Your devoted fans would more than likely purchase both an Original Trilogy release as well as any Special Edition versions."

I'm just saying, there's a possibility that if we were more specific we might've gotten more of what we wanted. GL obviously read the petition, which means he was paying more attention to this site than what we thought. I wouldn't be surprised if he surfed our message boards a couple times. Asking for the OOT as a limited release with the SE included was a major blunder.

I didn't like the Hayden Vader costume either. I liked the ROTJ Vader suit the best. They made a different suit for each movie in the OT right? It's obvious for ESB, but with ROTJ I think they made a new one too even though it's harder to tell. His voice is obviously also different in every movie. I also liked the ROTJ Vader voice the best also. The Hayden Vader sucked.

We should've been more specific with what we wanted in the petition. In the petition it suggests a limited release with the '04 version included! We should've demanded a permanent DVD release, restored and transferred from the original 35mm prints in anamorphic widescreen and NO SE included!! It wouldn't have hurt to also demand deleted scenes, extra footage, old documentries and such included with the DVD release. I think we all assumed if GL would do this that he would treat it with the best quality possible he always boast himself and his companies stand by. Well he didn't, he took advantage of the loop holes in the petition and we probably blew our only chance to have this done. I don't think LFL or outsiders are going to take another petition seriously, they will just see us as too picky and need to get a life. You can see the petition and where this post originated here.

Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist
Time

Adywan, I think I already mentioned this but I'll say it again. When you get to ROTJ revisited, you need to add a planet in the backround of Endore so Endore is actually a moon. Improve the effects of the window in the Emperor's throne room. Have Endore seen in the window in some of the shots and have it slowly move in continuity with the death star orbiting the moon. In the scene where they show the space battle from the window, they goofed. The battle is seen mixed with the Star Destroyers, but that doesn't actually happen until later in the film. So you'll have a lot of CGI work to do with ROTJ. If you have to include the celebration at the end of the film, you might want to consider taking out the Tatoonie celebration. The rebel alliance, the republic, and the empire had no significant influence on the societies on that planet. Why would they celebrate the fall of the empire, if it had no significant influence on them? That's is why Luke and Obi Wan went there for hiding. That is like America celebrating the Republic of Congo's independence day, irrelevant.
