"P: Why not release both the originals and special editions on DVD?
Lucas: The special edition, that's the one I wanted out there. The other movie, it's on VHS, if anybody wants it. ... I'm not going to spend the, we're talking millions of dollars here, the money and the time to refurbish that, because to me, it doesn't really exist anymore. It's like this is the movie I wanted it to be, and I'm sorry you saw half a completed film and fell in love with it. But I want it to be the way I want it to be. I'm the one who has to take responsibility for it. I'm the one who has to have everybody throw rocks at me all the time, so at least if they're going to throw rocks at me, they're going to throw rocks at me for something I love rather than something I think is not very good, or at least something I think is not finished."
It's a real shame that Lucas doesn't want to bring out the OT in it's original form. But hey, I am have come to terms with it, particularly after getting hold of the anamorphic set and the TR47 set. I still have respect for Lucas, he obviously went through a lot to get his vision onto the screen and it has clearly taken a toll on his life. But I guess we all have the power to make different choices. I for one am going to let up on the Lucas bashing for a while. It is begining to tire.
"Ironically, the documentary in its segment on "Jedi" does contain one image Lucas might have missed: the finale lineup of Anakin, Yoda and Obi-Wan with Shaw, not Christensen, in his rightful place."
Yesterday TFN was up in Los Angeles for the DVD press day sponsored by Lucasfilm and Fox Home Entertainment. We are pleased to announce that Lucasfilm confirmed officially a Star Wars television show coming in the future. They didn't comment on setting (post-Episode III or post-Episode VI we would guess)or release schedule (we expect Fall 2006). Either way - this is coming for sure!" - FROM TFN.
Ok, so we all know about some of the visual changes in the new 2004 DVD version. But what about sound changes? Listen to this and tell me what you think. First is from 1997 SE, Second from 2004 DVD.
"Mf.com should be back up either tonight or tomorrow. the new ISP they signed up with is upgrading servers. Nothing out of the ordinary." - Posted today.
It's been down for a few days now. This often happens when they are forced to change servers. I wonder if they went a bit to far by telling people how and where to download illegal pirate versions of the new DVDs. Home Theatre Forum (HTF) has also lost it's pages with video postings and screengrabs of the new DVDs.
There used to be a THX laserdisc available if you bought a THX home cinema set up. It showed a longer clip of the A&E sequence (on the Tantive). I saw it at a convention about 10 years ago. I can't remember if there was anymore SW stuff on there though. Anybody know of this disc?
