There are other alternates such as the ewok battle and Vader's funeral pyre - did you decide against including those for space reasons?

I did think about it but the Ewok Battle is a symphonic suite and not designed to fit the footage. I then decided just to go with the "The Return of the Jedi" alternate track as I felt this one was the most striking.

Superb work boon!

Blimey! I got to bed one night and then wake up in the morning to see another page on the thread with another review, a SUPERB cover and nearly completed NTSC version. WOW. Kudos to you all. You are all fantastic. Daveytod, you are always welcome to buy me a pint!

Sky - you do great cover designs my friend. I am so glad to see you do a 'RTJ' one. I did indeed use your 'BE' for my own copy. Just one thing, that link to your 'BE' covers is wrong. It shows the 'Building Empire Strikes Back' covers that were later corrected to 'Building Empire'.

Boon, super fast work mate. I really appreciate you doing this. An NTSC version has opened up a whole new audience.

Cheers

70 mm print of the Empire Strikes Back Differences
Time
Interesting finds guys.

After some research for 'Building Empire' I came to the conclusion that the Super 8 cut must have been taken from the 70mm version, due the apparent differences. Given that the Super 8mm release was clearly sometime after the theatrical release, it begs the question, why would they chose to use the 70mm print as a source? Perhaps they thought it offered the best image quality for the transfer needed. Does anyone know the release date of the Super 8mm release?*

I would love to see the airline print of TESB that is mentioned over at retrothing! I have contacted one of the guys there to see if he is willing to deal.

*EDIT - It seems the Ken Films Super 8mm versions were released on 1st June 1980. And there were 4, 8 and 17 minute versions. I wonder if any of these other releases hold any more clues. Link

This version with the play along tape may be different again. Anyone seen it before?**

** EDIT - I found this mention on another forum - "Curiously, in 1980, when Ken Films licensed THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK for home movie use, not only did they release two different 400' reels from the film, but offered a 200' reel that was in sound...yet came with a cassette of the soundtrack for those who did not have a sound projector. I recently tracked down this obscure item for the collection at home. (Yes, I still play with the old projector.)" - I wonder if the tape is from the 35mm or 70mm release?

I wonder if any of those 70mm film frames released in 1995 tell us any more? Ok, perhaps that one is a bit desperate.
EDIT - Actually I think this is the entire run.

I guess we will just have to wait and see if a pirate copy of TESB filmed from a 1980 70mm theatre run turns up.

My favorite bits are the details that were right under my nose-- has that Hell's Angel stormtrooper really been there all along? Crazy.

Hell's Angel Stormtrooper???

As for the lightsaber prop footage. That was shot specifically for 'Returning to Jedi'. Surprised?

Thanks again to everyone whos taken the time to comment.

Spotted a couple of typos in the captions, but nothing to yell about. I think the only bits of trivia that could be added would be to identify the recycled Ep IV footage in the space battle and Death Star interiors.

I did think about mentioning the recycled footage but thought it kinda obvious and couldn't find any official confirmation on it. I tried to get the less obvious stuff in most cases. Thanks for your suggestion though.

There are always going to be bits that people think are worth improving (grateful if you could email me with the typos though - I only know of one). I would be just as grateful if you could let me know what you DO like too.

"Just watched it..." is my favourite review so far

Boon, I don't think anyone has uploaded it to Rapidshare yet. I think there was some confusion above.

As far as I see it, and I am still learning, these replacement files should be used when you are burning a copy to DVD. If you copy them to the location from which you are seeding it may mess things up for people still downloading the torrent.

DarthSolo is going to add a link to the FIX files so that people can download it once that have completed the torrent download. Lets face it, it's still watchable without the fix. At least people now have the chance to fix it if they want to.

So to clarify: Only use the fix files when you have finished seeding, or just made a copy of the whole DVD and fix that one. That way you can continue to seed and get a fixed version for yourself.

I just want to thank everyone for their praise, input and creativity. Take a look at page one of this thread to see what I mean.

Good night and good luck.

Ive just tried the update and......God damn, it works a charm.

Just right click and copy the link address mate.

I would rather you upload it to yousendit so that my webspace isn't bombarded.

Thanks

Would you ever consider doing a fan documentary in the JDproductions style for the, er.........urm.......prequels(like ever, all things considered and someone will pay mega bucks for you to do so, like on their sort of say so, or just as a dare to see like if you are really talented enough to pull it off)?

Only for lots of money and access to the Lucasfilm archives. George, if you're listening, lets talk!

BUT before I burn another DL disc, I'm going to replay the movie beginning to end to make sure there are no new issues. I'll post as soon as I do that, which I'll start right now.

OH AND JAMBE, is the menu screen supposed to have the white menu selector box visible before the "Documentary" and "Extras" logos appear? No biggie, just wondering.

Glad to hear the fix works.

And as for the menu selctor box, I tried to get round this in DVDSP for ages. But there was no way to have it fade in with the menu. There are other ways round it that I have found out since, but I just wanted to get the disc finished.

Ok, I have figured out the jump at 01:53:50. For some strange reason DVDSP has a chapter 24 end jump set as Menu 1.

I didn't set this so it must be a bug of some kind. I didn't even know it was an option! Is this something we can correct in wtih IfoEdit or does it require a re-burn. EDIT - I have just fixed it at my end. Here are the files to fix it. Please let me know if this works for you!

'JUMP TO MENU' FIX - EDIT - Ok this works, so to those that have posted previously with non-working fixes, I would be be grateful if you could remove the links. - Cheers

And thanks to those of you who have posted review - most kind. And that ipod version looks great Nix.nux, good job!
