***//BUILDING EMPIRE\\: PAL & NTSC DVD - NEW EDITION NOW ONLINE! ***
Time
Hey caligulathegod, I received the NTSC version of 'BE' today. I have had a look through it and am pleased with the results and am totally happy for someone to upload this to torrent sites etc.

Some of the audio sounds a little slow to me. However, I am not sure if this is because I've used NTSC audio and it has been further slowed down during your standards conversion or whether I am just so used to hearing PAL sped up voices. Either way, all of the content is there in a presentable format. Good work!

//RETURNING TO JEDI\\: NTSC & PAL DVD
Time
Just got a great PM from blueharvest82 over at Rebelscum forums. Check out these lovely covers!

"Just finished up watching both your Documentries. Absolutly amazing.

Managed to fire up 15 mins of Return To Jedi on a large video wall we have at my work place, at closing time last night. It made quite a impression on some work mates. Especially when they thought Jedi was just running.. quite a buzz.

Anyway. please take these as a thankyou.

Hi, I do have the Chronicles book - I remember ordering it, paying about 100 GBP and waiting and waiting for it to arrive and what a great book it is.

'Returning to Jedi' was not really meant to be comprehensive though. There was so much more I could have added but it was generally in parts where there was already enough. I could have continued making this for years with the available material, but I decided I had to stop somewhere. Maybe I'll add some more for the ultimate edition

Numb video footage? I'd love to see it!

Cheers

Just got this word from Steve Sansweet via another contact:

"It was actually a UK production with mostly French film crew. It probably aired only in the UK and only once. It was mostly about “Hoth.” LFL (Lucasfilm Ltd) has a copy which was taped from the screen once many years ago and played at an Australian convention. The quality truly sucked. I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen bootleg copies around."

Hmm. So this is a semi-official word from an LFL employee. Not very conclusive.

Thanks guys. Hey, if that Lucasfilm job ever comes up, I might apply.

Just got this from Jabba's Left Arm, Toby Philpott:

"I watched it last night and enjoyed it trememdously! A nice mix of watching the film, and having points of interest highlighted or revealed...the section on Jabba compiles most things I know into an entertaining and informative sequence - what more can you ask?

Highly recommended!"

Also, check out this odd reference.

Official Release Thread - Alien Appendix - Updated with #2 info (Released)
Time
Big thanks to Jonno for the appendix discs 1 and 2. I watched the Mark Kermode doco this morning and loved it. Even if he is a Star Wars hater! I usually watch his things - Edge of Blade Runner and the recent Spielbeg Culture Show etc, but I had missed this one. Great discs, really looking forward to number 3!

Ok, time to own up... I didn't want to mention it (because I was one of many that contacted him) but soon after you found that link Mark, I complied with thewizard_7 requirements asked for a copy of "The Making of Empire". I thought the direct approach might work.

And... I just got this reply:

"Thanks, will work on this this weekend"

If it's the wrong one... then I will have another copy of SPFX on DVD

That guy has both SPFX and Making of Empire Strikes Back available for trade. I'm thinking that perhaps this may not be as rare as we think, which is good because maybe we can see it.

That's the guy we've already contacted. Please don't contact him. He has probably already been flooded with requests!

If I obtain a decent copy from someone who is happy for it to be disrtibuted then I would like to release it.

Babyhum seems a likely candidate. Perhaps I will work with him to ensure everyone gets to see it. But hey let's not get carried away just yet.

By the way, I should know by tomorrow from one of my leads and by monday from the other.

Mark and Jaberdoo have contacted this guy. Lets be sensible and leave it at that. As you say we don't want to get too over excited.
(Sorry I don't mean to sound patronising. I just want to make sure we aquire this doco).

I have just heard from another potential source saying:

"Might have that lying around"...

I will be back with news as soon as I know.

I've just been contacted by a guy from Universal :

"I am a Writer/Director for Universal Entertainment. If you are ever in Florida or
California and would like to see the studios... Please let me know.

I must congratulate you on your labors of love. They look absolutely
terrific. You must be a walking encyclopedia of all things Imperial.
Hopefully someone will take notice and say "hey this guy needs to be in
charge of the Lucasfilm archives" (or something like that)."

Quite chuffed about that one.

I just got this from an American friend of mine after asking if he has the non-SPFX version:

"I think I do have the Making of ESB.

It's been a while since I've been into my VHS tape boxes. I will have
to dig them out.

I had a VCR as early as 1980 and I believe I have a tape of a Making
of ESB off of broadcast TV. It probably looks terrible. But I think
I have it. I'll check."

Sounds positive.

Interestingly he does state that he has "Empire Strikes Back-Spec. Effects (2/81)" as well. Did you contact him?

The bottom of the main page has an interesting comment:

"...Some are people who want to take away our right to trade. It has come to my attention that there are people who work for studios and production companies that pose as "traders" with the sole purpose to trick you into a potential copyright violation situation."
