Sorry you guys didn't get the expected gift this Christmas. I am just waiting on my QC team to get back to me.  They received the second half to look over around the holiday time, so it was too late for me to expect them to reply and get everything else done before the end of 2011.

Next week I will have a few hours to work on it and hope to have it done by end of Feb 2011.  I am still wondering about the name and if it works.

I was wondering whether to rename it 'Starting WARS', with 'Wars' in the Star Wars font. Hmm, maybe not.

Just before Christmas I got a lot done filling in those dead spots and integrating more bits and bobs. I am pretty please with it and I really hope you like it too.

WATCH THIS SPACE.

Well I have sent out a pre-QC version of SWB to my QC team (you know who you are).

I am away for a while so I look forward to hearing their thoughts on my return.

'Feel the Force' is on it's way, so I will work on integrating those few short shots in on my return along with Ripplin's crawl.  The DVD menu video is made and the trailer for the DVD Special Features is done.

I think, providing there are no amazing discoveries between now and mid December, I should think they you will all be receiving a gift from me this Christmas.

Thanks again for all your help.

Making of Empire Strikes Back pushed back to October.
Time

It certainly is interesting how Lucas' ideas about Darth and Luke's father evolved. I have only read about a tenth so far and am finding out new things all the time. I did notice a quote that was a complete lift form 'Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga". Lucas does have a tendency to repeat himself though.

Also it never ceases to amaze me that the majority of the ideas that were thrown out or not achievable at the time were used in the prequels. It just goes to show that discerning individuals and restrictions are required when making a film. Don't read this as Lucas bashing. More that Lucas had a much better team around him at the time of Star Wars and Empire.

MattMahdi, There were some plans to have repaired versions but its such a laborious process and from what I remember (it was a long time ago!) Movealong understandably gave up.

Ripplin, Feel the Force was broadcast by Sky One in the UK. I got a friend to burn me a copy some time ago but it has since gone to the DVD graveyard. Your help would be much appreciated. Looking at the low red youtube version I have spotted a couple of short behind the scenes shots that aren't anywhere else.

Thanks, JD

By the way, I am still wondering if this project needs a new name.

Hi Maclanachu.  Funnily enough I got that book through yesterday and it's wonderful. I've had a quick visual feast of the photos and last night I started to read it.  Great stuff.

Thanks to Helleman I was reminded of 'Star Wars, Feel The Force' the 'fluffy' TV documentary from 2005. I did have it on DVD at one time but have unfortunately lost it. Are any of you wonderful chaps able to send a copy over please?

Thanks

JD

Hi all, Spent a couple of hours on the project yesterday. I am definitely coming towards the end.  I reckon this could be finished in a matter of 8-10 weeks. I should have some more time in december to finish it off.  There are still a couple of gaps that I am not too happy with but I am sure I can sort it.

The menu should take an hour or so to make.

It's the rendering and transcoding that always seems to be the problem!

(I should point out that my ipad was a present for my birthday. My girlfriend and her family got it for me. It is a great tool to take away with me on my travels but it's not as versatile as my laptop.)

Thanks for your efforts none. Brilliant stuff! Did you notice you can still see the film's crawl in the background? Perhaps my screen is lighter than yours. If you can fix it, I will certainly be using it in Star Wars Begins. I would also like to use the comic version as an special extra as is won't work in the main doco as I am already committed to some commentary that wouldn't fit.

I would very much appreciate your permission.

And a quick request to the rest of you. Does anyone have decent resolution pics of Ralph McQuarrie's production paintings? I have some, but they are scanned badly. I need them for the menu. Any help would be appreciated.

I have spent a good few hours on SWB this morning and I soon realised that I am nearly done. Most of the editing is complete. I need to go through and mix the sound track. Then burn a copy and watch it on the big screen.

Of course I still need that crawl done and the DVD menus created.  The latter shouldn't take to long.  As for the crawl, any takers?

Thanks

JD

This video pretty much confirms Lucas has every single stitch of film for star wars, even if it was conformed to the special edition.

And it is from his own website so his the negative is no longer in existence or is destroyed is not the whole truth.

Great find. I wish I could grab that alternate "look sir, droids" take for 'Star Wars Begins'.
