Second, I noticed some time ago that just after Lando reveals his plan to escape from the Imperials at Cloud City, one of Leia's lines was cut out from the Special Edition and 2004 DVD. In the original release, Leia says “Do you think that after what you did to Han that we’re going to trust you?” In ’97 SE and afterward, however, all we can hear her say is “Do you think that after what you did to Han” before Chewie growls (quite loudly) and cuts her off. This has actually bothered me ever since I saw the SE in the theater for the first time. Ady, is there any chance of restoring the original dialogue here?
Never noticed that before, here's the evidence

The evolution of the clone armour didn't make much sense to me, not because of the Fett angle, but because it seemed pointless for the clones to change helmet design in the span of a couple of years. I would have gone with the RotS clone trooper design from the outset, then when we get to the OT roughly 20 years later we can see that there's been a design change but it's still pretty similar.
Hows this for a cool Fett-trooper helmet........"THIS IS STAR-WARS!!!"

That's funny. When I tried to argue the same thing with the wings slanted out, I got shot down.
That was a long time ago, wow......guess you were right....keen eyes.

Would you have any images of this Ady, I've never seen this variant before.

If you look at the HD version of ESB you can clearly see that the wings are slanting outwards on Needa's shuttle
Youre right (again) that shuttle does appear to have strange looking wings.......they must have dropped it.

This subject of TIE bombers keeps regurgitating all the time, ILM designed a shuttle for SW which was unused in the final film, it was used in ESB to transport Needa for his Execution, the Shuttle model was modified (it is differentiated by an arm or chute below the transport side of the shuttle) for a TIE Bomber...which because of its close-up shots bombing the asteroid of the hiding Falcon, everyone thinks when they see a twin pod TIE that it is automatically a TIE Bomber........gasp!

Sorry, but you are slightly wrong. The shuttle designed for ANH was the one used for the bomber. But Needa's shuttle isn't the same as a TIE Bomber. The wings are placed the opposite way. Instead of slanting inwards, they slant outwards. So every time we see a bomber in ESB, then that is exactly what it is meant to be.
Would you have any images of this Ady, I've never seen this variant before.

No, no, I actually think that the music that Mr Williams composed for the prequels is very good........it's just that his style has changed especially when contrasted to his 70's work....it doesn't blend.
J
Isn't it also the case (I may have imagined this bit) that the prequels were (re-)edited after the music was composed and recorded, unlike the original trilogy, where the music was recorded after the edit was complete?
DE
Yep absolutely DE, you've hit the nail on the head, there are definitely different factors involved between then and now....the way films are now are different..my son used to say Star Wars was boring compared to the later films.......WHAT.......too slow......WHAT...... Superman also....the cinema audience today are used to a..........ah! I'm gonna quote him,......'Faster, more intense' style of movie making.
When I was a kid I had a LP collection of soundtracks....you could actually sit down and listen to the whole soundtrack of SW....and get swept away by the pure elegance. I couldn't sit through the prequel soundtracks....they are clunky and bitsy...as you say trying to fit a fast paced movie, changing scenes less than every 2 minutes.
Anyway...enough of this rant....next subject.
J
EDIT: Exactly Pagz, you beat me to it.
Wow your analysis of these films are totally groundbreaking,..... ;)
To me John Williams music of that era sounds different to what he composes more recently.
J
If you listen to JW's scores at the time of SW....like Jaws, CE3K, Superman, Raiders & ESB....they all have a similar feel,....interchangeable

I prefer the original-no-score....the addition of music cheapens the scene especially using prequel music.
J
Well the fact that it was in the prequels is a bit of a petty thing to have against the music choice. It's not the music's fault it was in a bad movie :-p

Here's a thought that would probably be very difficult to realize, but since this is the "Radical" Redux thread I'll throw it out there: to me, one of the worst examples of CGI over-use, and one of the things that really sets the prequels apart from the OT visually, is that the clonetroopers are all digital. I wonder how much clone footage could be replaced with shots of guys in physical suits....even if it were just a few of the more static, close-up shots, it might make a big difference.
Yeah, these guys are very good......they are from Belfast and are called Emerald Garrison.
J
Thanks guys..........can't wait to see Adys in motion.

Jaitea, where did you get the extra background buildings from?
From the opening section of the SE scene...then morphed them a bit to change the height perspective.
J
Nice one Ady!....can't rememember who came up with the aerials.

Eye, did you do this in After Effects.. You kinda said how you did it... Can you be more detailed? Looks great!
My computer can't handle that in After Effects. I did it in photoshop, but the changes were applied to all the frames at the same time. I have dabbled in After Effects and I believe it can be done.
I used photo filter, cyan, and raised it to my liking.
I then went into brightness/contrast, and raised brightness until it didn't feel dark. Then I added contrast to bring back some detail.
Then removed a little saturation, and boosted some colours.
The underlined part is what made it look good, other was just messing around.
When I was doing this I was applying each change to each layer at the same time.
If anybody would be willing to do the scene in motion, that would be awesome!!
I did a few tweaks with the colour in Ae and it does totally change the scene......the colours that are buried under that mask of orange , its maybe not adjusted to what you had in mind ESF, but to me its different to look at.

How about getting Artoo from someplace else.......obvious place ESB on the Falcon fixing 3P0's leg...sure he's a bit dirty but here's a go.........
Now that Ady has announced that he's gonna recreate his ANH:R on HD, there's more reason to place ideas and suggestions here....new ideas or things Ady did do but could enhance further.......this shot of Artoo on the Falcon was a reused shot of Artoo in the Death Star in the official releases......but Ady fantastically replaced the background with the Falcon.......but there is still a reflection of the Death Star walls on Artoo's head.
J

J
Your'e a great guy Ady, this is brilliant news......i would stop after ANH:R-SE.......the prequels aren't worth it.

If you were to watch them for the first time as 4-6, 1-3 (like my workmates' 4 year old son just before christmas), the shaggy haired young guy who appears beside Yoda and Ben at the end confuses (my workmate was given 4-6 in Nov and was buying 1-3 for his kid for xmas, came into work and was quizzing me on what was going on......he hadn't seen the OT movies since they originally came out......he couldn't believe how f**ked up the movies had become)
J
Funny, when I watch 6, there's no shaggy-haired guy...
;-)
Yeah, neither do I,.......and now neither does my workmate & his son.
