Harmy, just had a fiddle with the contrast & brightness of the SW BD, it looks like the blacks aren't as crushed as the HD broadcasts.....dunno what do you think...top left is the untouched video, right is the GOUT, bottom is the adjusted footage.......no audio on clip...think thats what youtube picks up on.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z8QSA2Pi7w
Also has anyone noticed that when the scene switches back to the second shot of the Power-Droid (when it starts walking) it looks like the image switches to SD ( bit like the shot Ady noticed in ROTJ)
J
Angel has an artistic view, without his ideas I don't think I would have much inspiration.....I do prefer the original 70's/80's look of the films....but there is quite a difference in the 3 years between SW & ESB's looks & styles.....Angels ideas can bridge that gap.
J
By less 70's do mean like this?:

What he's saying is that if you hear a recognizable theme from "Close Encounters" or "Jurassic Park" while watching a Star Wars film, you will probably be distracted by the recognition and out-of-placeness.
What he said.
If I'm watching Star Wars and all of a sudden I hear the Indiana Jones theme, I better see a man in a fedora pretty quick or my brain will flat-line.
I agree, you couldn't get away with it..............unless your name is Tarantino

I agree, in the Spence fanedit the Rancor scene is entirely removed. While I thought it would be too iconic to remove, the entire first act works better without it. Better pacing, and Luke appears a stronger and more mysterious character.
How is it edited? after Luke speaks to Jabba how is it joined to the scene after the Rancor?

Never liked 'of the' titles, as they are lazy and don't fit with title structure created by Ep 5 (The Empire Strikes Back, not Strike of the Empire!)
As titles go, Return of the Jedi/Attack of the Clones/Revenge of the Sith are about as bland as they come.
The Phantom Menace is actually one of my favourites, as its meaning is not entirely obvious (is the 'menace' Palpatine or Anakin......or just the general darkness that is to come? Or maybe all of these things).
The menace was obviously the Trade Federation ;)
My problem was that there was never a "phantom menace." There was an obvious menace handled ham-handedly. It never made sense why everyone was so blind to what was going on (here I will defer to RLM's rant on that topic).
I don't entirely disagree with your critique of "of the" though I'm not sure how to use Jedi in a title without it sounding flat - ie "The Jedi Return."
My take on the meaning of the title "The Phantom Menace" is an enemy or opposing threat which has been created by someone or something that is trusted........i.e. Palpatine.
He creates a war and battles against an invisible opponent....Darth Sideous

Audio and video. The trick is to make it a private video, not public. We'll be able to see when you post the link, but nothing else should happen.
Tried that, and got blocked immediately!

Does anyone know what youtube detects....title?....audio?
J
Ah Ballex!!
I'll see if I can work round it
J
I can still view it?
J
Well now we're on the subject of Vader, I never liked the slump he does after he puts his hands on hips when meeting Leia, I also took out the mindless pointing

Lucas, who apparently went off teleprompter, then said, "Thank you for honoring Darth Vader tonight. And just wait till you see him on the big screen in 3D next February."

interesting though - i thought just TPM was being released next feb? are all movies going to be released in one year like in 1997? or could be he just was talking about star wars in 3d in general.
SPOILER: Could be that Darth Vader and that cute little kid in Ep 1 may be the same character
J
Great job Laserschwert

Also keep in mind guys that the Sith eyes were already established with Ian McDiarmid's make-up:
If you discount the Prequels, who's to say that Palpatine is even human.....with the strange Prune-face forehead looks kind of alien to me.
J
Been there,and does work J
Me too, it sounds like Wedge to me (though how he says 'pass' does sound a little camp), his voice matches the surrounding parts, a little speeded up
J
Well at least Ady is doing his upmost to ensure his edit will be at the highest quality available
J
Northern Ireland's Star Wars costuming club will again be appearing in W5 (in the Odyssey Arena Belfast) for a couple of days in Oct for the fourth year
They real are pretty good, you can check out W5's site here:
Jeremy Bulloch will be there as well as Femi Taylor (Oola)
It doesn't cost that much to get a flight to Belfast City Airport from Mainland UK & W5 is 10 minutes from airport
J
I'm all for the OT getting a complete make over.....but only if the original theatrical versions were available on BD as we have been praying for.
A completely modern version and a cinematic release (3D?) would revitalise the OT, with special effects surpassing the PT, blending in new elements seamlessly into 70's & 80's footage......removing substandard jarring effects painted on for the recent SE's.
This would require the top team of ILM....the guys responsible for recent Transformers & Pirates of the Caribbean movies etc (recent upgrades to the movies have been poor proving that time & budget have been restricted)
I would have no problem with further alterations with the movies provided that the Classic versions were made available
J
I have to say when they came out i got caught up in the excitement of new Star Wars movies.....but now I think they are pure shit and am embarrassed to think I tried to enjoy them
