daveytod says:

For those who don't know me, my (screen)name is daveytod. I'm active with that name on
several boards around the interweb and I'm something of a fan editor.

My works to date include:
'The Sith Revealed' ( a behind the scenes look at Episode III that never had a full release),
'Episode III - The Video Game Movie' (a 90 minute movie made from gameplay and cutscenes of the Episode III video game),
'24 - The Missing Day' (again, a full movie culled from the PS2 game),
'Battlefront - Journal of the 501st' (once again, video game cutscenes, but bundled with a helluva lot of bonus extras) and
'Star Wars - The Interactive Video Game DVD' (a VHS to DVD preservation)

18 months ago I started work on the follow-up to 'The Sith Revealed'.

(Now, I know "The Sith Revealed" never had a proper release, and that’s because I was just
never happy with it. There were some terrible audio sync issues and the whole thing just
lacked 'ambition' when compared to the greats of this particular little fan edit niche,
such as 'Deleted Magic' and 'Building Empire').

18 months is a long time, and although I'd become more competent at using the various
programs involved, there came a time when I simply gave up. It just wasn’t working for me,
and so I sat on the unfinished project for months, trying to get enthusiastic about it again.
When I finally did, it was with a hell of a lot more ambition than it had before.
I included scans from the comic adaptation featuring extra lines, scans of concept art,
production photos, even commentary soundbites and subtitles.

To further clarify exactly what this movie is: I’ve taken ‘Star Wars Episode II -
Attack Of The Clones’ as a starting point. On top of the existing video, I’ve added
various material to give an extremely in-depth behind the scenes look at what goes into
making a Star Wars film. For example, in the speeder chase alone, I’ve used concept art,
publicity stills, rough computer animatics, comic book stills, alternate audio and video,
cut lines, (I’m sure there’s a kitchen sink if you look hard enough) to show the
various stages this sequence went through before it became the sequence you see on the DVD.
As such, the only time you actually see the proper movie, is when I had nothing to add,
bar trivia subtitles or commentary. To further enhance the DVD and make repeated viewing
of your favourite scenes even easier, there are 67 separate chapter stops to choose from.

"The Clones Revealed" is far and away the best thing I've ever produced, and I'm very
proud of it, even if it has driven me to the edge of madness at times.

I hope you guys enjoy it too.

Good timing, Demonoid has been down for a few days.

The averaging looks pretty good.

Yeah, I see what you mean about Denoise. But, then again, the source may be a little plastic-y. All the stations's caps seem to have kind of an over-filtered, overenhanced look, and maybe a reduction in detail. Maybe from a lower-end broadcast-quality tape of some sort. Or the original tape was run through enhancer hardware that had the settings too high.

Averaging vs Denoise:

I can't tell, from a still, if the boat has more texture & detail, in the average-without-denoise, or if it's from the static.
Edit: The denoise seems to blur the wet(?) spots on the boat, though.

But I think the strands of hair look clearer, in the average-without-denoise.

Yeah, maybe it'd be better to leave off the denoise, whenever you can average.

I wonder if an average of more sources might yield even better results.
Absolutely.

3 copies is enough for "Toot", which should work wonders. But it probably won't be as efficient when mixing DV sources with MPEG2. And with all the noise, in each cap, there will probably be a loads of cases where the same pixel has noise in each of 3 caps.

I'd also love additional captures of the recent Sci-Fi airings to kill the noise.

I have about one-and-a-half HQ DVR caps of the SciFi. I don't know if Molly kept her RW's. I kept meaning to ask her for them. (In fact, I'd like to have copies of the Telemundo, and maybe the others, on the trillion-to-one chance that I'd someday try to zap the logos with compositing). Let us know if any of those other stations run Waterworld again!

shepp74 where arrre youuuu? (Sung to the tune of "Car 54 Where Are You?"... uh, never mind, ancient tv show).

In particular, I have a shot that's partially covered by a Sci-Fi ad on the bottom. The shot takes place when we come back from a commercial and Helen wakes up on the Atol right before the smokers attack.

I guess that's been taken care of on the re-airing, huh?

HELP! THIS PROJECT IS HOGGING 454 GIGS!

LOL!

Now that it's too late, Lagarinth might take up slightly less space than Huffy. (Huffyuv's speed is needed for capturing to lossless, but it supposedly compresses a little less well).

Edits: Many. Including something braindead that I hope no one noticed.

Horror House on Highway 5: The Red Room Murders

what is it about? This one needed a MAJOR overhaul...twice! I first edited this film about
a year ago. That cut removed over half of the footage, but still kept many pointless and irrelevant scenes.large product photo

tagline: No one ever gets very far...

original film name: Horror House on Highway 5
new film name: Horror House on Highway 5: The Red Room Murders
film studio name: Simitar
edit crew name: Retro Horror Remix
Date Original Film Was Released: 1985
Date Edit Was Released: May 22, 2007
Original Runtime: 88 Minutes
New Runtime: 26 Minutes
Amount of time Cut/Added: 62 Minutes Cut

Cuts removed/added/extended:

* *No more opening kill scene with the girl and her boyfriend when the killer steals the mask. Instead, new credits are shown over a Red Room murder sequence.
* *Added the song "Nights in White Satin" by The Moody
Blues during the scene of the van driving into the desert and again (more intense) during the climax of
the film.
* *Removed the two brothers characters. As well as any reference to the killer in the Nixon mask being
related or what his true identity is. Since at the end someone totally new is shown with the killer there
wasn't even a need to show the brothers.
* *The girl in the red dress and the classroom scene are removed as they are both HORRIBLY acted.
*Removed bad dialogue such as Louise repeating everything her boyfriend says. And the awkward double
take of the boyfriend seeing the dead body by the trash can, also him finding a dead cat in the van. (Trust me, that scene made NO SENSE!)
* *The boyfriend never steps on the rake, he just falls on it. (Removing comic relief.)
* *Many of the boyfriend's rants are shortened or removed. And he is portayed like a bigger pothead than
before.
* *Added a short audio buildup at the very end using a part of the score from Halloween III: Season of The
Witch.
* *Aspect Ratio changed from 1.33:1 Open Matte to 1.77:1
* Widescreen. Non-Anamorphic...still trying to figure that out!
* *Running time shortened from 88 minutes to 26 minutes.

Fanedit details:

* Full DVD. Contains Audio and Video TS folders as well as art work.
* Menu, Film and Fan Trailer.
* Video Format: 1.77:1 Non-Anamorphc Widescreen
* Audio: Ac-3 Stereo

Your intention for this fanedit:

To turn this into something watchable. I though the original film had lots of creepy moments that when altered
would make an effective, scary short film. The original film was a horrible disaster! One of the WORST films I've ever seen, even though I felt it still had potential. This one needed a MAJOR overhaul...twice! I first edited this film about
a year ago. That cut removed over half of the footage, but still kept many pointless and irrelevant scenes. However, I later felt there were a few things I should have left in. As wells as more I should have removed! Also, the original edit played like the original film in chronological order.

Your way to achieve your intention:

* Most of the film removed.
* Added addional sound effects and music.
* Many scenes rearranged and the beginning and ending has been altered/changed.

Hardware and software information:

* Sony Vegas, DVD Architect
* Additional Comment: My 2nd release!

Time needed for the edition: About 1 week.

persons involved:
Dustin - Concept, Video Editing, Artwork and score.
Jacob - Additional Audio and Video Engineering (Fades and polishing).

Credits

Plot improvements over original:
In my film you see Fr Karras before he was demonically possessed in The Exorcist, hopefully this will make the viewer sympathise more with the character when they see him possessed in The Exorcist III.

Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original:
The concept for this film came from The Godfather Prt II. Even though I felt The Exorcist III was a good film there was IMO plenty of room for improvements. To do this I felt I needed to expand the character of Fr Karras (who is possessed in E3) by adding scenes from The Exorcist (1973), that show his back story. What I then tried to do was show both films coming to a dramatic climax which compliment each other & hopefully improve The Exorcist III.

Your intention for this fanedit:
My aim for this edit was to edit a film no one else has edited before & in the process make a truly original Fan Edit. Also, I wanted to move on from the standard editing of removing scenes, adding deleted scenes (like my pervious edits) & to try & combine 2 separate movies seamlessly into one film to enhance the overall movie.

Time needed for the edition
planning: 1 day
editing: 1 day
sound editing: 1 day
trailer: none

BLAX02: Birds of Prey - The Complete Series

The comic was also loosely adapted to a television series, Birds of Prey. Set in
an alternate future of the DC Universe, the show starred Dina Meyer as Oracle
and Ashley Scott as Huntress, established partners in New Gotham. Meyer's Oracle
was the paralyzed former Batgirl; Scott's Huntress was the daughter of Batman
and a meta-human Catwoman, and as such exhibited feline powers.

Joined in the pilot episode by a young psychic runaway named Dinah (played by
Rachel Skarsten), the team spent 13 episodes stopping various meta-human threats
such as Huntress' old high school friend Shiva and a thinly-veiled Nightwing
knockoff, the dangerous "Darkstrike" (previously known as "Nightstrike" until
the similarity to Nightwing prompted the change). Other main cast members
included Shemar Moore as Huntress' love interest Detective Jake Reese, and Mia
Sara as the villainous Dr. Harleen Quinzel (Harley Quinn). Lori Loughlin was a
notable guest star, playing Dinah's meta-human mother: the Black Canary.

While the series was short-lived, many fans praised Dina Meyer's portrayal of
Barbara Gordon/Oracle, and hope that the comic may some day be more successfully
adapted.

Waterworld ABC Cut? A ton of info - see McFly's posts for details (Released)
Time
Wow, it really shows up in those shots.

I'm really thinking that a DV->Mpeg AviSynth filter, like Reinterpolate411 is worth a try, for that problem.

Mpeg samples color between two lines, like this:

--
--

But NTSC DV samples color along one line, like this:

----

So an unfiltered conversion would look like horizontal lines (line segments), of color error - often blocky-ed across two lines (I don't know exactly what it'd look like, but those screencaps fit the theory).

It also looks like denoiser is getting confused by minor chroma noise, because of the DV. (Not sure if that's curable).

Don't know why it'd only show up after IVTC, though. But this doesn't look like IVTC errors, to me.

OTOH, maybe those line segments are screwing up the IVTC detection, and it's blending/averaging/interpolating every single field. Moth3r recommended manual settings, but I don't know if you can set it separately that for each source. Maybe you can tell decomb not to look at chroma when detecting telecine patterns.

Something they didn't mention: 24p is also kinda nessecary for editing together different telecined captures. The different telecines wouldn't be synced together, so without IVTC, you'd all kinds of stray-field problems showing up at a lot of edit points.

(Oh, and sorry, I gave you the wrong link, earlier. It mentioned some DV-Mpeg filters, but the main subject was about encoders. Sorry to give you the wrong impression. I'd promise to look up better threads, but I probably wouldn't, so I won't promise - I rarely get much forum stuff done lately).

It's still there, but the guy seeding it shuts his computer off a lot, so you might have to search for "dead" torrents.

No promises, but maybe I can pitch in a little bit, between posts and stuff. (And you need to get the new torrent file).

I'm reposting Disc 2, now.

I could be posting Disc 4, but my main computer (pardon the technical jargon), went all funny.

I can still upload to newsgroups, and torrent (using an antique), but if I don't have a good way to make par files, at the moment.

I'll get Disc 4 up in the next few days, one way or another, and hope to be going full-blast soon.
