Names matter
Time

The film was first retitled A New Hope in the Art of Star Wars first edition. Edited by Carol Titelman.

That was in 1979 i think.

So 1981 was when they actually bothered to do it, to physically alter the opening roll up and starfield and add a new second title to the film. They even spliced the new opening into existing prints.

I’m sure ILM has talked about redoing the opening somewhere.

George Lucas's Sequel Trilogy
Time

So Lucas wanted to do his own version of the EU. Sounds like with some edits like Luke neither being married or having any children. No wonder Disney threw those treatments in the trash. None of these are new or original stories or ideas he was just cribbing EU characters and plots. Maybe even worse than Disney in a way, more lazy at least for the most part Disney didn’t use the EU as a template.

Darth Maul being the main villain is a joke.

This isn’t what we waited 35 years to see. We waited for the continuation of the OT characters and their story where it left off, as original stories. Not some weird amalgamation of Filoni Clone Wars and EU.

What's the silliest name in Star Wars?
Time

I think silly names is something that carried over from comic books and movie serials.

Star Wars is not serious drama. Its a live action comic book serial.

Even Starkiller came out of Killer Kane from Buck Rogers. I know Lucas changed it to Skywalker so it didn’t sound like the hero was a mass murderer.

I mean the Emperor was named Sidious in the Prequels. Short for Insidious. Stealthily treacherous and deceitful. His master was plagueis aka plague us. Hego Damask.

Added Star Trek III the Search for Spock Evergreen Japanese Laserdisc with OBI.

Added Temple of Doom 1994 Letterbox Japanese Laserdisc no OBI.

The problems i have with Last Crusade is turning Sallah into some sort of caricature of the character we saw in Raiders. Also Marcus Brody becoming an imbecile for comic relief, even if it is funny it doesn’t fit the character established in Raiders. Also i feel like its a bit of a rehash of Raiders. The same way Return of the Jedi was a rehash of Star Wars.

The Sequels - George's Original Trilogy
Time

I’m interested in the story Lucas had in mind for Luke, if he even had come up with a story arc beyond new female student shows up and Luke is reluctant to train her. I’m not interested in the Midichlorian world and i’m glad Disney said no to that.

I’m fine with the story we got for the sequel trilogy. But they should have filled in the story of what happened between Return of the Jedi and Last Jedi. We never got to see Luke as a Jedi master or to rebuild the order, we never got to see the New Republic and how Democracy was restored.
They never said where the first order came from or what happens to the remnants of the Empire.

I liked The Rock, Pearl Harbor and Armageddon but i’m not going to pretend they are great cinema.

Sometimes a movie is just something you watch for enjoyment and it is nothing more than that. Something to do for a couple of hours.

The only thing i liked about his Bayformers movies was the monologue at the end of the first film and the inclusion of Peter Cullen as the voice of Optimus Prime. Dumb movies and they can be enjoyed a lot more if you are not a Transformers or Generation 1 fan. The Last Knight cannot even be defended as a dumb flick to be enjoyed, though it is truly one of the worst films i have ever seen. And Marky Mark phoned that movie in.

As for Bayturtles those movies are truly abominable. Especially the second one.

The Worst Scene/Sequence in Any Star Wars Film
Time

How about Vader going Crazy on the Rebel troops in rogue one. Yeah the scene might be cool but it doesn’t fit the style at the beginning of Star Wars 77 at all.

It was very flashy like something the prequels or sequel movies would have done.

The other one i would mention is Greedo shooting first in the Special Edition, or Jabba and Boba Fett in Star Wars.

What is your main way of watching the Original Trilogy?
Time

Wow i haven’t watched the films on VHS in a while. Not since buying the Fox rental tape just to review it/compare it to other releases. My go to versions in the 1990s were the pan and scan one last time set and the pre THX pan and scan set. I last watched Return of the Jedi as 4K83. Haven’t found a good HD version of Empire 1980. And i only watched some of 4K77 because i haven’t had the time to really sit down and enjoy it.
I also haven’t watched the Evergreen Japan Laserdisc of A New Hope yet and had planned on doing so.

What was changed for 1995 THX version?
Time

The 1995 CLV discs are nearly identical to the CAV 1993 laserdiscs. Same master. Same noise reduction, same audio.

The only difference i can see is the reduced price of the CLV discs and that you could purchase the 3 films separately without the huge oversized definitive box. The CLV discs are much less prone to laser rot especially if they are the US releases which were pressed in Japan.

Both releases had THX certification.
