Wanted: Star Wars Trilogy Vinyl 1983 by Victor Japanese White Label Promo
Time

I’m sorry to hear that. I myself had to stop all buying of goods from Japan due to EMS to USA being almost permanently on hold due to Japan post being closed to us here. I have no idea when service will resume.

I just bought something from good squid via Kuroneko Yamato service. Not cheap mind you 48 dollars.

My other order with the owner of LDDB in Japan has been on hold since aug or so. It is just Japan though, had no problem whatsoever buying a game through playasia and Fedex express from Hong Kong.

We must have seen a different movie. Rey as Luke’s heir is going to keep the jedi flame alive.
Finn, Rey and Poe will rebuild the Republic along with all their friends. The balance has been restored by Palpatine finally being defeated once and for all. The last gasp for the Empire and the Sith.

It isn’t that Luke and co failed, its that the next generation has to pick up the torch and now its their job to secure the future that Han, Luke and Leia fought for.

It is just my opinion and your mileage may vary, you could just as easily say Rise of Skywalker was just a remake of Return of the Jedi. And Han, Leia and Luke were replaced by Poe, Rey and Finn, and that everything ends up the same.

Yoda's line of "He is too old! Yes, too old to begin the training" ?...
Time

I always felt like Yoda was testing Luke by being impatient with him. And like the trial he faced at the force cave he failed.

He also has some doubt that Luke would complete his training because of him being the son of Skywalker.

Luke is a bit of a hothead. Very impulsive and brash.

He is Anakin’s son through and through. Much anger in him like his father.

Kenobi seems to be the one who thinks Luke has the potential to defeat Vader and the Emperor, the same kind of pride that Kenobi felt over Anakin which led to him becoming Darth Vader.

Yoda knows Luke could easily fall to the Dark Side and into the clutches of Palpatine, and suffer his fathers fate.

What do you like about the EU Pre-Disney?
Time

I thought John Cygan made a decent Luke Skywalker in the radio drama for Dark Empire. I also liked him as Canderous Ordo in Kotor.

I liked the Kyle Katarn series of games. Starting with Dark Forces.

I also really liked Tie Fighter and X-wing games. They were on floppy disc. If i could find a computer with a floppy drive i wonder if they would even still work at this point.

Anyone else think Empire Strikes Back's Special Edition is actually better than the Theatrical Cut?
Time

The Snowspeeder no longer being so transparent and see through. Its the only change i like. Other than improvements in audio fidelity in the 97 edition, or how the prints were not as murky and dirty, nicer colors.

The standard Eastman prints of Empire were absolute crap. I’ve never actually seen a nice 35mm print that was not severely faded. Dirty looking, never the same colors, splicy.

If only there was a way to get the 1980 version restored to the same level of quality as the special edition from 97.

Maybe that is why George always had co-writers and people to help him with his weakness for dialog.

He himself would admit to being an overall good filmmaker except for in the area of writing.

He described the process as painful, said he was not a gifted writer like Francis.

He was lucky to have friends like Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz, and to have almost by luck found Lawrence Kasdan to take over scripting of Raiders and Empire.

The process for him is incredibly slow he began writing Star Wars in 1973, and did not finish the script til 1975 or so. Phantom Menace took from nov 1994 to about 1996-97 to be filmable.

The sequel process would have taken him about as long about 2 to 2 and a half years to get the Episode 7 script done, Disney didn’t want to wait and they did not want his story anyway. 2 to 3 years pre production on a new trilogy plus 9 years to get it all done. Disney did their series in half the time.

If you had to keep one Special Edition change…?
Time

I prefer YUB YUB, but i don’t hate the victory celebration music. I also kind of don’t mind the Jedi Temple and Coruscant shots. They just slow down the pace of the film. The original ending is much more tightly edited shot for shot. I would also argue the story is about Luke and his circle of friends and family and not about opening up these wide vistas of a larger galaxy. Those shots are very much in vogue with the prequel esthetic and establishing that.

Where should Lucasfilm go after Episode IX?
Time

I want a sequel to Rise of Skywalker even if its just a standalone film or few episode streaming show.

I want to see Rey rebuild the Jedi order and take Finn as her student. Finn as a Jedi Knight would be pretty badass.

I just want a happy ending for everything finally after what Luke, Han and Leia had to sacrifice.

I also wouldn’t mind Lando finding his lost daughter.

My opinion of the sequel trilogy changed,i sort of hated them until i saw the rise of skywalker, i’ve pretty much come to like them a lot.

Sure they are a different take than the EU on how Han, Leia and Luke were handled as characters.Different doesn’t mean bad.

I also really like Rey, Poe and Finn as characters.

I also like Rogue One, Solo, and the Mandalorian.

It really isn’t my Star Wars anymore and that is okay. My nephew and nieces love the Disney stuff. As my eldest nephew liked the prequels. I’m an Original original trilogy and Legends/original EU guy and that is fine.

I also respect Rian Johnson as an artist and director even though the way he did that movie Last Jedi isn’t how i would’ve done it.
But i agree with him on how there is a natural progression and organic way a story unfolds, and then there is a fanservice checklist. What he did with Luke is correct for the new trilogy because it isn’t his story anymore its Rey’s. I also have a ton of respect for the set designers, prop makers, art directors and artists, costume makers and special visual effects technicians along with the cinematographers and John Williams and musicians.

(<em>Outdated</em>) Darth Vader isn't calm in the original trilogy; he has always been very emotional
Time

Vader is such a superior swordsman, he is playing with Luke. He was holding back the whole time until Luke lands a lucky blow and then Vader ends it by chopping off Luke’s hand.

The real question is what happened to Vader in Return of the Jedi its like be forgot how to fight. He does not fight like a great swordsman there, he looks like a frail old man. Luke is the superior swordsman almost the entire fight. Or at best they are matched and Lukes fury gives him the edge.

What do you like about the EU Pre-Disney?
Time

Nomi Sunrider
Ulic Qel Droma

I like Tales of the Jedi. But to be honest i haven’t read it since its first publishing, much like Dark Empire. Or the Boba Fett books which i liked. and the droids comics. All 1990s Dark Horse stuff. My favorite was Classic Star Wars by Al Williamson. Which at the time i had no idea was just newspaper comics reprinted and reedited and colorized.

I’m not sure if the first EU book i read in the 1990s was Heir to the Empire in paperback, but it might have well been. I do remember making a trip to the bookstore to pickup a copy of Splinter of the Mind’s Eye By Alan Dean Foster, and the Han Solo Adventures by Brian Daley

The 1990s pre prequel era is the era i remember the most fondly. Reading the books and comics, playing Super Star Wars games, watching the video cassette tapes in my VCR.

Small details that took you <em><strong>FOREVER</strong></em> to notice in the <em>Star Wars</em> films
Time

Because the characters were separate and Vader killed Luke’s father who was unnamed at that point. Obi Wan had two students. Then it became Obi Wan was lying. He could have said Anakin Skywalker your father was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil, he decided to hunt down the Jedi knights and murdered your mother Luke.

Maybe he should have also said this lightsaber cuts down younglings like butter while Luke is fooling around with it in Ben’s hut.

He had to convince Luke to join him on his foolish, idealistic adventure to defeat the Empire. What better way to lie, what better way than to forge Luke into a weapon by making him hate Vader, and to tell him his father was a legend. A great starpilot and cunning warrior and a good friend.

Luke wouldn’t have accepted the truth at that point, he might have even been tempted to join the Empire.

A New Hope - If you could add a scene of the emperor, where would you add it &amp; what would it be?
Time

I don’t mind him being spoken of, but by Sith don’t show him. You will ruin the reveal in Return of the Jedi, also keep him that mysterious hologram from Empire Strikes Back voiced by Clive.

I mean like in Alan Dean Foster’s Novelization where he is this Nixonian Wizard of Oz character behind the curtain. I would also prefer he remain not a Darth.

What do you HATE about the EU?
Time

I think originally it was Anakin Solo who was supposed to fall to the darkside, but they were not only not allowed to tell that story they were ordered to kill him off because we cannot have two Anakins. So Jacen was the one to go bad. Also Luke was supposed to be the one to die at Jacen’s hand not Mara, well Lucas wouldn’t allow it. Karen Traviss wanted Luke to die.

Denning actually wanted to resurrect Anakin Solo, it was not allowed.

I don’t know if there is anything i really hate in the New EU, its all so Meh it barely warrants any kind of reaction or response. We don’t have wild stories and crazy stuff anymore, like even the bad old EU having some kind of creativity, All the new stuff is just all so same. I guess you would say homogenized. Or its not an Expanded universe is an explanatory fill in the blank for the Disney films universe.

What's your favorite lightsaber color?
Time

Blue-White Anakin or Obi-Wan Saber from Star Wars 77.

I also like Luke’s Green Saber with the Obi-Wan hilt from ROTJ.

In Kotor II i liked Viridian, Silver and Orange colors with a double blade.

If i have to absolutely pick one its Luke’s Return of the Jedi. Which also happens to be the color of Yoda and Qui Gon saber’s coincidentally or Lucas was lazy.

I don’t agree but that is fine. Only certain titles would benefit from 5.1 obviously. And it is meaningful to own the original mixes for films reissued with altered versions. Far too many blu rays don’t have original mixes. I’m glad for the titles i have. Though honestly its just stuff like Star Trek 1-6, Goldeneye 007, Original untouched Disney Dub for Kiki’s Delivery Service, Star Wars Special Edition 1997, and Phantom Menace. I’m sure there are others but those were the ones that come to mind.

What is your main way of watching the Original Trilogy?
Time

I’m still trying to find a good HD version of Empire. I assume i won’t have one until 4K80 is released.

Puggo Strikes Back is the best i have at the moment but its SD.

I also have the absolutely terrible 2006 Bonus DVD which is not anamorphic.

I haven’t seen the latest version of Despecialized of Empire in HD, I had the old DVD 5 version from 2011?

I like Rogue One but telling the story of how the rebels came into possession of the stolen plans is completely unnecessary, the crawl for Star Wars 77 does it well enough. Also all the characters die, its almost impossible to genuinely care about their fate, its a one and done film. I like the characters but they are surface level archetypes at best.

I wasn’t expecting much and it is Star Warsy enough, probably the closest looking thing to real Star Wars since Empire Strikes back in the design esthetic of a real and gritty used universe. Vader going all prequely at the end kind of ruins the start of the original film though.
