Who Would Like To See An Original Star Wars Re-Release Theatrical Showing?
Time

The library of congress does have the original prints submitted for the copyright they digitized. What they don’t have is an archival print. Lucasfilm couldn’t provide one because it doesn’t exist, even Fox never had archival prints made. What they did have was a 3 strip backup of the original camera negative made, which had color layers misaligned they never checked it before putting it into storage. Lucas dug it out in the 1990s and found it was useless.

The only archival quality print Lucasfilm could offer the LOC was the 1997 special edition which they refused.

As insane as it sounds no restored version exists of the original 3 movies at Lucasfilm, and no DCP has been prepared for exhibition. Lucas never spent the money for obvious reasons. He spent money on the 3D conversion and the Reliance 4K scan of the Special Edition, which eventually was released as Special Edition 4.0 in 2020 but not in 3D.

I haven’t played those in so many years i had Halo 1 and 2. I also really liked Reach. I thought Halo 4 and 5 sucked, 3 was kind of a mixed bag.

The newer games the single player story mode/campaign is mostly an afterthought. They put everything into the online features.

I don’t care about MMO or online, it wasn’t why i was a fan of Halo in the first place.

I think i played Halo remastered and completed the first one. Started the second remake and lent it out to my brother who never returned the game.

Final Fantasy VIII remastered was extremely disappointing no 16:9 mode no skipping cutscenes, no voice acting. Looked like SD cdrom ps1 quality with some uprez. The game might have been amazing in 1999 not so much now.

I spent 40 bucks to buy the import, what a waste of money no wonder it didn’t get a US release.

4:3 1080P with black borders on all sides, lol.

Final Fantasy VII remake and that was like a year ago.

I’ve ordered Final Fantasy VIII remaster and Mass Effect Legendary edition. Cannot wait to play them.

If my Xbox hadn’t died i’d probably not have bought the remaster of the Mass Effect trilogy, and would have been able to play Kotor 1 and 2, my digital collection of Metal Gear Solid HD. And probably one of my favorite games ever Star Wars Battlefront 2. The original not the one that came out in the Disney era.

What are you reading?
Time

The making of Star Wars wouldn’t have been possible without the work of Charley Lippincott and his contemporary interviews which he was never paid royalties for on the sale of that book, not when Lucas owned Lucasfilm and not under Disney. A man written out of the history of Star Wars much like Marcia Lucas and Gary Kurtz.

RIP Charley.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine - NTSC DVD Restoration & 1080p HD Enhancement (Emissary Released)
Time

Why would secret hideout be involved they are Alex Kurtzman’s production studio, a bunch of other details don’t add up.

CBS digital always does their own restorations TOS and TNG are both at 2K. None of the new shows are being shot at 4K. We are supposed to believe that Deep Space Nine is now going to be in 4K. I don’t believe it.

Considering how even the new shows are being finished in 2k, and the sweet spot for television for Trek has been 2K, i don’t give this any credibility.

Anakin Skywalker's turn to the darkside; your alternatives?
Time

I thought it was Obi Wan’s pride and hubris as said in the novelization of Return of the Jedi.

He thought he could teach Anakin just as well as Yoda had taught him.

Then we get to the prequels and Obi Wan’s Master isn’t even Yoda it is Qui Gon.

I also thought it was a slow seduction to evil. Not a turn on a dime. Not murder younglings or lose Padme.

The new Star Wars comics - a general discussion thread
Time

I’ve read some of the books. The tone is all over the place, the art is inconsistent, and the stories aren’t at all memorable. But as far as disposable entertainment goes they aren’t all that bad.

I did like the original Aphra run, and the second Darth Vader series. And i have read a good amount of the new main Star Wars series, Vader Down, and the screaming citadel.

Haven’t read the post Empire Strikes Back books yet. To be honest i’m waiting for post Return of the Jedi, that was my favorite era. And yeah i did read Shattered Empire.

I’ve read Rise of Kylo Ren as well. I’ve read The Poe Dameron and Phasma books.

I kind of liked the adaptations of Force Awakens and Last Jedi, and was upset when the comic version of Rise of Skywalker wasn’t published.

The rogue one comic was fantastic it was better than the novel even.

Watching all three Original Star Wars films on "May The Fourth Be With You" Day
Time

I know what you mean i have the 2004 set in storage and the gout 2006 2 DVD fullscreen sets in storage as well. Along with the 2011 blu-ray.

The only Macklunky 2020 copy i have is digital. I don’t have the 4K/blu-ray set, i only paid like 30 for the 1080P remaster digitally. The best buy set was going to cost me 250 and i couldn’t justify that.

Anyone else think Empire Strikes Back's Special Edition is actually better than the Theatrical Cut?
Time

Some of the shots are just needless tinkering like when Lucas would change a building exterior or the way the camera moves in a shot. If your going to do a “special edition” a least what is changed should be an improvement.

Like the zoomed in Falcon cockpit interior to tighten a shot in the Special Edition, what was the purpose of that?

Or when he goes about fixing a continuity error like with Ian as the Emperor in the reshoot, only to not bother to keep it within continuity by having him wear his Revenge of the Sith makeup. Not bothering to have the makeup artists and costumers get his ROTJ look right for one redone scene. Its incredibly lazy.

Or when he pasted Hayden on Shaw’s body instead of shooting a replacement plate of new footage.

Unpopular opinion: I'm glad Palpatine's return wasn't set up in TLJ.
Time

The big script thing Lucas has peddled isn’t true. The original Star Wars sequel was called Star Wars II by Leigh Brackett, and Darth Vader wasn’t Luke’s father.

In fact if you read the story conference for Splinter of the Mind’s eye, everything we’ve been told about the Saga of Darth Vader goes out the window.

The script from 1974 Vader was just some general, and Valorum was the Sith Knight. Luke was an old General.

I’m glad at least the secret history of Star Wars is out there for people to read who were only given a certain point of view.
