Looks like the Jet the X-men fly in. I suppose they were inspired by a real life aircraft.

Jaws has brilliant editing by Verna Fields which hides a lot of the problems of the original shoot and creates tension by not showing the shark all that much. And a Herrmann-esque score by John Williams which drives the character moments and gives life to the terror of the shark.
The only shots that sort of haven’t aged well are rear projection shots. Everything else is seamless.
I’m really glad they never went back and redid it in cgi.
Just watched the remake of RoboCop on tv it isn’t a bad film, but it is an unnecessary remake. And i really respect Gary Oldman as an actor but here he is overacting and really bad.
I thought the Doctor from Voyager was referring to the songs origins tongue in cheek. Never mind i’ll see myself to the door.
Edit: found out the story circulating for years by Bob Justman isn’t even true.
How many other lies are in Star Trek the real story?
Added Gall Force Eternal Story original first issue Sony Japanese Laserdisc with OBI
Added Gall Force Destruction. Original release Laserdisc with OBI.
There appears to only have been a single Laserdisc release. I see some conflicting Info on LDDB about it being letterboxed or pan and scan. But no info about whether or not it is the original mix.
Love the JSC still have them in their original wrapper and obi just opened on the side to slide them out of the jacket and viewed once. Still even have the over hundred dollar price sticker on each from 1987.
All are absolutely flawless copies. No foxing on the dustjacket and no Laser rot. no corner bumps in the gatefold, or any tear in the OBI strip. Paid about 175 US for them about 15 years ago and they were worth every single penny.
Still my favorite set is the 1995 Japan Faces set called the collectors set. With the John Alvin covers and from Star Wars to Jedi.
And my favorite Laserdisc releases of the movies by far are the first issue Star Wars, and Empire Strikes Back Japan releases. Not time compressed. Analog sound only. Pan and Scan. The covers are awesome and the gatefolds are splendid.
I do have the 2004 dvd, 2011 Blu-Ray, and 2020 trilogy digitally but i never watch them. I couldn’t even be bothered to buy the Saga 4K set i was tempted just to complete my blu-ray 4K Star Wars collection, but then i figured i could spend the 250 on something i actually might watch.
Never mind.
They also sidelined Captain Marvel. The directors said because she wasn’t familiar to the group of original characters. The worst part was fat Thor though he was made into an absolutely worthless sidekick for the guardians of the galaxy, and professor Hulk, a Hulk who doesn’t smash isn’t much of a Hulk.
And Black Widow dying instead of Hawkeye who should have died.
Honestly it has some cool moments but its not as good as Infinity War. And almost as bad as Thor Ragnarok and Iron Man 3 in places. My opinion is 2 of the Avengers movies are good and 2 are awful.
Edit: seen Akiru its deeply depressing and wonderful at the same time. I do need the Criterion Laserdisc for this and the other Kurosawa films. Thanks for suggesting 1917, Gun Crazy, and Parasite i’ll have to check those out. The Citizen Kane Criterion is also something i’d like to see.
La La Land records just released a remastered Star Trek II soundtrack. On CD. Neil S Bulk is the producer.
They actually found the original recording sessions.
I like the Dark Lord Trilogy even if i’m not the biggest prequel fan. I think its Labyrinth of Evil, Revenge of the Sith, and Dark Lord the Rise of Darth Vader.
I also remember liking the Coruscant Nights trilogy.
There are so many legends books. I’ve pretty much read them all except for the Medstar books could never really get into that, tried a couple of times.
Read all the Dark Horse comics as well except for Invasion. Since Luke is barely in it. Even though its related to the New Jedi Order.
Hopefully when TOHO finally releases 4K discs of Kurosawa and Godzilla films Criterion will as well.
I’d also like for them to reissue War of the Worlds which they did a 4K scan of but released only on Blu-Ray, release that in 4K. The George Pal film.
They’ll never do it but they should also do 4K releases of Ray Harryhausen films. They don’t currently have the rights.
Maybe even upgrade the Bruce Lee Collection to 4K.
Its not really necessary to call it Episode IV or a New Hope. But it doesn’t offend me. Its fine for any version from 1981 on, but i call the theatrical cut Star Wars.
Calling Raiders of the Lost ark, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark does. Thankfully they never renamed the movie by changing the in movie title.
I watched the end of Phantom Menace on television and i found it to be quite enjoyable, except for CGI Yoda that was a disgrace it didn’t match the other footage. They followed up with Attack of the Clones and boy that was awful. Its indefensible how bad it is. I feel bad for Natalie and Hayden they were trying their best, but the rest of the movie is junk. Even the Obi Wan stuff was terrible this time i watched it. Used to kind of like the detective aspect of OBI Wan in this movie, but its just baffling and dumb now.
I kind of understand why this is rated the worst Star Wars movie ever, and no it isn’t the Last Jedi.
Haven’t read that one in a while. I remember it being a thriller of sorts.
I remember getting the novel Shadow Hunter, The comic book of Darth Maul, a lego set of Qui Gon and Maul, and the Phantom Menace DVD as a gift.
I want to reread some of the legends canon books but i’m finding the books are quite expensive, maybe if my library opens i can essay to read them all again.
Like all i have is the Allston X-wing books and, I, Jedi by Stackpole. And i need to get all the Stackpole books. Need to replace my Zahn trilogy from the original paperback print. Was reading heir to the empire and the binding came off. I have a bunch of vintage sci-fi paperbacks as well i have to replace all the time when they fall apart. My Lord of the rings set is done for, the Dolphin edition from the 1960s.
I’m way behind on my read through of the Disney Star Wars books, i want to read some of the books. But i’ve only been able to read the novelizations and some of the Marvel comics. Loved Last Jedi the book was great. Han Solo’s funeral was touching, should’ve been in the movie. Luke was also more fully fleshed out and his motivation made far more sense.
I just got the 1988 edition of The Adventures of Robin Hood. In CAV format on Laserdisc.
I was amazed how cheap the cardboard sleeve/dustjacket was. But the discs are very nice and there is no laser rot.
The Star Trek films haven’t had their 2 channels mixes in a long time. They weren’t on the last round of DVDs, Blu-Ray’s and won’t be on the 4K UHD releases.
Wish i could retire my Laserdiscs. I’m aware the 5.1 mixes are based on the 6 track mixes but that doesn’t mean the UHD release should be missing the original stereo mixes. For the oddest reason they are adding an isolated music track but no original audio?
the Adventures of Luke Starkiller as taken from the Journal of the Whills Saga one The Star Wars.
Or maybe Revenge of the Jedi.
Title that was actually used probably a tie between Return of the jedi and Revenge of the Sith.
I would have liked for a film with a suited Vader hunting down the Jedi. It would have had to have remained mysterious who he was. Nobody should know it was Anakin everyone should assume he died in the Clone Wars, and Obi Wan should think he killed him on Mustafar.
Not sure if this should have been in Revenge of the Sith or a film in between episodes III and IV. Maybe an episode 3.5
I’m so sad to hear he died. I was going to pick up his Alien, and Aliens books a few weeks ago and then i read this news and was devastated beyond words.
Fast 9, it is one of the worst films in the series. The flying to outer space with a car with a rocket has to be one of the dumbest things i’ve ever seen in a movie.
Watched Tokyo Drift and i was surprised how much i enjoyed it.
Just finished Black Widow and i didn’t like it as much as i did Captain Marvel, but it wasn’t a bad movie by any stretch either just not a homerun expected of an MCU entry. Liked the family stuff, liked the female empowerment and loved when Black Widow beat the hell out of the guy from Indiana Jones 4 who was the villain.
He wanted to go back to the 65mm elements for the 4K version of TMP.
Doug Trumbull.
Wouldn’t that be expensive and do those elements still exist?
Just got the remastered comics adaptation trilogy of the OT for 12 bucks. Its all recolored and they’ve made some edits. I’m not really sure what to think of it honestly. Lucasfilm/Marvel reasoning seems kind of suspect, as does choosing the Special Edition comic for the 40th anniversary and reprinting that instead of doing a 40th of the Chaykin book.
It doesn’t upset me very much though because the fact no one bought it means i can get a copy for ten bucks in hardback. Barreto is a great artist too bad it hews to the remake with Han shooting second.
Added Street Fighter II, Uncut and PG13 cuts on one Blu-Ray from Eastern Star Aka Discotek.
Added Forbidden Planet Letterbox CLV MGM and CAV release from MGM Laserdiscs
Added Scaramouche Criterion CLV Laserdisc
Added The Scarlet Pimpernel Laserdisc.
Added Temple of Doom Evergreen Japanese Laserdisc pan and scan, and Last Crusade Evergreen Gatefold Letterboxed Japanese Laserdisc. Both with Digital audio and OBIs. There was a sale at a local shop in Quincy Massachusetts, Rad Autographs. The same place i got my Raiders of the Lost Ark Evergreen, and Golden Voyage of Sinbad discs. I bought some 007 movies too Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies And Octopussy.
Added Jurassic Park CAV edition. Japanese Laserdisc. Dolby. With OBI.
Added Star Wars 1982 first issue CLV US release.
Added Aliens Japanese CLV directors cut. Digital audio and OBI.
Added Snow White Japanese CLV Classics collection, and Pinocchio. Not the biggest Disney fan but at ten bucks each it was hard to pass up especially sealed with OBIs and perfect condition dustjackets.
Added Adventures of Robin Hood 1988 Criterion
Added Discovision Flash Gordon Laserdisc
Added Batman 1989 Letterbox Japanese Laserdisc no OBI
Added Double Feature Prisoner of Zenda sealed. US laserdisc
Added The Sea Hawk US laserdisc restored.
Added Splash Letterbox remastered laserdisc.
Added The Time Machine George Pal Digital transfer laserdisc.
Really depends on the title. DTS discs are rare except for titles they made a bunch of. They made a hell of a lot more copies of the AC3 discs.
Basically supply and demand.
And you can wait for a deal to come along every so often. Some titles are never going to come down in price due to their scarcity though. Though i found DTS discs of Goldeneye and Tomorrow never dies for 40 each and i find that very reasonable. What isn’t reasonable is like a hundred bucks for Mortal Kombat if one shows up for sale.
I bought the Bride of Frankenstein Encore Edition Laserdisc. And the HarryHausen feature One Million Years BC.
Both US pressings.
I’ve been interested in Alien Japan Special Collection but not sure its worth 40 dollars.
Edit: decided i’d buy it anyway.
