The snow seems almost too gray to my eyes, but if it matches closer to GOUT, then it's fine by me. How 'bout a third version of this sequence with a three-way split amongst Revisited/2004/GOUT?

That's my bad. i rendered the wrong layer for the clips. Well actually there is an extra layer that was supposed to be rendered with it but was disabled. You see, when i'm doing the colour correction, to get rid of the horrible cyan tint on the 2004 DVDs a lot of the blue tinting is lost and some subtle colours are also lost in the process. Once this is done i have to add an extra layer containing the 2004 DVD, but with the cyan tint changed to blue and overlayed at about 25% transparency. this brings the subtle blue tinting back to the snow, but i forgot to enable the layer. oops . you can see a comparison here:

Any chance you could redo that preview with the layer on please? please please please?

i give up. Someone or something is out to get me. Just started uploading the PAL but it was crawling and i mean crawling. opened up my emails and there was one waiting for me from my isp:

"please be aware that from 17:00 on the 12th may 2008 your line may be restricted to 16kbps upstream and 512kbps downstream due to urgent maintenance at the exchange in your area. The work should take no longer than 48 hours but your speed will likely not improve until your profile is reset, normally within 10 working days"

thats just taking the piss. there is no possible way i can upload this now with those speeds and i'm still having to pay the full months money to my isp. So i guess i'm just going to have to wait until i get a decent enough speed to be able to get this out

not happy :(

I have a very slow bandwith today too, don't know why but I couldn't download it anyway lol

Looking forward to this DVD-9

As I understand it there is no mistake from Ben Burtt's part : reversing the rear channels was intentional. Don't ask me why he did this though, sounds as dumb to me as it does to you.

I think it's more likely that its was a total cock-up and the whole "creative decision" spin was just so they didn't have to replace all the discs sold with new ones with corrected audio. If this was a creative decision then why are some of the front channel FX reversed too?

Hey don't ask me. I never even noticed they mixed up the channels!

No, the mix has been rebuilt using various sources. At the last count i was using 225 separate audio tracks to create the 5.1 mix. It uses the 2004 DVD 5.1, the SE laserdisc 5.1 & extra effects from my star wars effects library. I was able to gain better separation by adding more sound effects and ambience where needed and also rebuilding the complete mix from the ground up in places. It was surprisong to me just how bad the official DVD mix is. not only do you have reversed music in the rear channels but hell of a lot of the sound FX are coming from the incorrect sides in the front channel. Ben Burtt made one hell of a cock-up with this mix. I can't see how the hell anyone at ILM couldn't have spotted this.

I'm still not 100% happy with the mix and i might be doing some more tweaking for the final release. As it stands now i'm about 90% and i doubt i will get it to 100% but there are a few things i want to redo for the DVD-9's

Anyone else has the same issue?

Are you getting them from usenet? make sure you download the par2 files that come with it and use quickpar to repair the damaged files. it will extract without any problems then

Oh bummer... Just when you thought you had dowloaded it all...

Thanks, I'll try that. And yes I'm getting them from usenet. Was this a bad idea?

Yep, that's what I said above.

Seems like a lot of fuss about the energy shield on Hoth. The way I see it it works like the one used during the Battle of Naboo : it is designed to prevent blaster bolt from penetrating it but can't stop something moving slowly to penetrate it. What ady could maybe add is some kind of effect (some sort of hue or glow, whatever works) on the surface of the AT-ATs right before they start firing, hinting the fact that they've just penetrated the shield and thus are now able to fire.

Also a very good point as been made earlier about how easily Luke escapes Hoth despite the imperial fleet, here's how maybe it can be worked around : we know that at least one cruiser as been disabled by the rebel Ion cannon, Ady could easily enough add a disabled star destroyer in the shot when Luke flies off the planet.
