Moving in from the Basher's Sanctuary (TF.n)
Time
I used to like TF.N about 6-7 years ago. Back when TPM was still new and we hadn't drawn lines in the sand where we stood. Now, I've been banned so many times that I can't go back. Nor would I want to. They can wallow in their own SE/PT shit for all I care. Those people will amount to nothing in society with views like that, because if that is how they blindly follow Lucas and his constant rehashing and controdictions, then they must be that way about everything. Mindless sheep.

Ironically Episode I and II are the only PT movies that I can watch without fast forwarding. No, seriously. They may not be that great of a film, but at least it is palatable most of the way through. Episode I the most. I can actually sit down and watch the whole thing and not hit the FF button.
Episode II, well there is the part with the whole Nintendo game sequence where Padme and Anakin are jumping over barrels that Donkey Kong is throwing that them in the factory. But other than that, it's not too bad.

Episode III? No. I fast forward though every scene Grevous is in. Plus any scene where Mace is in too. Basically half the movie. I can't stand it. Episode I, I could at least swallow. This movie? No. It just got worse and worse as Lucas went along.

2006 MTV movie awards...

I love how the back up singers are Rebel Pilots. Nice nod towards the true nature of Star Wars. Hell, even the orchestra were in Emperial garb. The only thing in there that was out of places was...uhhgg...Jengo Fett. Bleah.

Finally PT pop culture reference will start to wind down now that episode III is over. All that is left is the test of time and already everyone has forgotten about episode I and II. We will all be back to normal in no time.

Yeah, I knew that Owen was given Luke originally but Lucas wanted a female to be handed the baby. I don't know why, it makes no difference to me, but the way it was shot it seems so out of place. You'd think that Owen would at least be right there near his wife to help accept the baby. Maybe since his hands were free he could shake Obi-Wan's hand maybe? I donno. What I do know is that it looks as though Owen could care less about Luke. Like he was watching Obi-Wan from a distance slowly ride up on that camel thing and just stand there and wait for his wife to show him what Obi-Wan had hidden in his robe.

Maybe at the very end when Beru and Owen are standing over their farm pit looking at the sun set.

fake edit: I really hate that scene. It's an over use of a poinent scene from the original movie, and it makes no goddamn sense why Owen is standing all triumpantly at the sunset waiting for Beru to bring him his nephew as if it were the drink he ordered. I mean, there is no harm in the two of them being out there looking at the sunset with their new baby, but do then need to be standing so precariously close the ledge? Plus the music cuts to the credits too fast. The original music that they were using tones down to a more subtle cord, but when used for the ending music it sounds choppy and goes from a smooth sound to DUUN DUUUN DUN DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUN DUN!!!!

Bottem line. I could have directed that scene better.

The Other side of the 30th Anniversary
Time
I just got done watching a segment on CNN Headline News where they were talking to some guy from Popular Mechanics about the whole 3D thing.

James Cameron said that he is only filming in 3D now because he loves it so much. Personally, I went and saw his "Aliens of the Deep" IMAX film and it was okay, but god damn, I get such a headache when watching 3D. I mean, real bad. I don't want to be in pain for 2 hours because everyone is having orgasims to the idea of 3D.

I understand that movie makers are trying to get people back into the theater, but you know what? They've had to deal with that since the advent of VHS. Hey, here's an idea to get people back in the theater: MAKE BETTER MOVIES!! How about a movie with a plot for once? Or even better, likable characters!!

Superman will have 20 minutes of 3D in the IMAX showing. Whoop-dee shit.

I understand that they are trying to move away from "OMG! That bat totally came out at the audiance when he hit the ball!11!!" to a more 3-dimentional depth of the film; to make it seem as if you are really there. I personally like that idea. It's one step closer to the Holodeck of Star Trek. I want to feel as if I am there, not spooked when a shards of glass flys my way.

Problem is, is that we have about 200 degrees of viewing and our periphrial vision is going to noticed that the sides of our 3D glasses are open. Plus you really have to focus using those damn glasses, polarized or not, and after 30 minutes of wearing those damn things my head feels like it was fucked by a jackhammer. That is more incentive to keep me AWAY from theaters.

3D is not a ground-breaking cinema experiance that will radically change how the public views their movies. It is a gimmick. Nothing more.

And I WOULD got see Star Wars, but I don't know if I can stomach those altered scenes. I just can't. Maybe I'll be able to sit though Empire. That had the least amount of changes. But 3D? Come on. This is Disnyland experiance fodder.

The Official Lucasfilm Response
Time
I agree completely mverta. That is how it was taught to us in my Film Theory class. My prof is a huge Star Wars fan and we had a whole segment devoted to the "space opera / space western" genre where Star Wars was the main event. She can't stand what Lucas has done to the films (she must be pretty excited about the September release).

Han was a cowboy. He dealed smuggling drugs (Star Wars calls it "spices") and other illegal paraphanalia. He lived in a rough and tumble world where he would be shot dead if someone was given the chance. He knew that and blasted away Greedo. It is of no consequence to him. Better safe than sorry.

And like you said, if anything was done in cold blood, he redeemed himself during ESB. Lucas is just an idiot. We know his films better than he does.

I'm currently listening to the Star Wars Radio Dramas...

Oh my god! Those are so good, aren't they?! I LOVED them. I listened to all three dramas about 6-7 months ago and it was a real treat. I mean a real, real treat. Every day (for just about 3 weeks) I would look forward to crawling into bed that evening, snuggle myself in, turning off all the lights, and put my headphones on. Man it was awesome. My whole room would be dark except for the faint optical kiss that my glow-in-the-dark stars on my ceiling gave off, and I would just let my mind be taken to a galaxy far, far away.

I recomend that everyone do this. Go out to you local library and rent the radio dramas. That's what I did. (Then I burnt copies for my own personal use. *shhhh*)

3-D was lame when it was popular. I'm surprised that Lucas isn't trying to present it in "smell-o-vision." I will not be seeing these movies in 3D. 3D gives me a headache. And even if it didn't, I would still make my head hurt.

I was hoping for an IMAX release. I saw Episode II in IMAX and the experiance was cool. I don't know if I would be able to keep quiet during the movie at specific scenes *coughdeathstarringscough* but it might be cool to actually feel the lightsaber go under the seats with each swing. It worked that way with Ep. II.

Should there be an ULTIMATE EDITION!
Time
I would adore a PT remake. We all have ideas as to how it could be done. Basically, not straying from the original story line too much, but a complete overhaul of the plot line. And first and formost, have the guy that plays Anakin be the same actor for all three movies, just like the other 2 main characters.

For as much as Lucas pimps the PT (and now the over all saga) as an "Anakin" story, why is it that the actor that played him never got top billing? Ever? Even for Episode III, Ewan got top billing.

You look at the OT and it is about, duh, Skywalker, and who gets the top billing? It is, duh, Mark Hamill. I say that the PT is about Obi-Wan.
