Unorthodox Star Wars Beliefs
Time
I too always felt that the whole balance thing was misread by the Jedi. How can you have balance of something where one is the majority and the other is at zero? That is not balance, that is domination.

I also agree with the wiping out of the Jedi Order. I didn't see them as evil, and wiping them all out seemed a bit harsh, but it was almost needed. They had become too self involved. Everything had to go through the council, there was no heart, only duty. They denied these children the chance to live with their families. Jedi were forbidden to love or marry or have children of their own. Much like the Catholic Church commanders (and they've got some problems on their hands, don't they?).

The Jedi had essentially lost their way. To quote Stephen Colbert, "They're all fact, no heart." And in the end, their narrow dogma of what is appropriate and what is not lead to their own destruction.
I just wish that the PT made this line of thinking more obvious. What a great story plot! But no...it fell through. Damn CGI-fest.

Dude, that's bitchin'! I wish I had seen that! I think Harrison Ford was a guest star on The Daily Show like a few days ago. I missed that one too, dammit!

HC receives Razzie© nomination for Worst Supporting Actor
Time
I couldn't finish the movie. I rented THX-1138 about a week ago and I only made it half way through the movie. Namely, I was bored, and for the parts that I weren't bored with I was creeped out. I'm sorry, but scene where 1138 jerks-off to that nude girl dancing...god *shiver*. This is from the man that made Star Wars? WTF?! Not to mention the fact that you see bloody bodies being taken away at the begining of the movie. And Lucas thinks that Han shooting first is too violent. *rolls eyes*

I just...couldn't finish watching. It was a horrible, horrible movie.

My letter to Entertainment Weekly, what do you guys think?

It's a good letter. I too hope that you proof read your letter before you sent it, because if all your T's aren't crossed and your I's aren't dotted, they will probably cast it aside. It looks poor if you have bad grammar.

Star Wars becoming "mainstream" and "popular"
Time
I think that by "mainstream" is that it is just popular right now, now that the PT is over and done with. When the PT came out a lot of closet case Star Wars fans came forward and said that they loved Star Wars and were going to check out the newest films.

Now that the hype is over, I'm guessing that it will retreat a bit and with a little luck, the PT will fade away and the OT will be remembered most.

New tactic for petitioning for the OOT?
Time
I think that this is a wonderful idea. I don't know how I personally could contact Steven (or the person who reads his mail), but the magazine/newspaper thing is a step in the right direction. The more people know that they can't have this the more they are going to want it. You tell a kid that they can't do something, what do they do? -- they usually go a head and do it anyway. We can't have the OOT? We're gonna want it even more.

"Rise, Lord Vader!" - my vision of ROTS
Time
Brilliant. That raise some very good and poignant observations.

Why does Vader want to keep on living now that Padme (and for all he knows, his child) are dead? Didn't he say that he can't live without her? Why does he keep on living? To see the Death Star get built? Pfft. Whatever.

Why did he feel that Padme betrayed him? There was very, very little evidence to suggest that Anakin was jealous that Obi-Wan was moving in on his wife? Now that would have been a wonderful plot device. Maybe even walk in on Obi-Wan receiving a comforting hug from Padme and Anakin flies off the handle at that sight, spouting venom about "stealing his woman."

And that "Nooooo!!!" has got to go. That is easily recorded over. It sounds more like he got his mid-term paper back and only made a "C-" on it when he worked so hard for that "A+," rather than the anguished cries of a man who has LOST EVERYTHING.

Padme's death. 'Nuff said.

And the old shoe, "Why the hell does Leia remember, but Luke doesn't?"

All good points raised. I like your changes much more. Hell, any changes could be better. ROTS still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth today because of crap like that. At least TPM and AOTC was bland and inoffensive.

What If Ian Had Said No To Appearing In Empire Strikes Back?
Time
Ian would never have said no. Lucas may be an asshole to his fan base, but he is quite the gentleman when it comes to his actors. Alec Guinness hated Star Wars with a passion (mostly due to the fans). Yet he returned for Empire and Jedi to re-play his role simply as a personal favor for Lucas.

Lucas can get his actors to do anything (except act of course). Maybe if we were all actors he might be nice to us.

What were the hits when you were born?
Time
So? What was playing when you were born? If you could go back in time to the date that you were born, what would you hear on the radio when you turned it on? What movie would you go see in the theater? What was playing?

I was born in August, 1983 so....

The number one songs in America were "Every breath you take," "Sweet Dreams (are made of this)," and "Flashdance."

The number one movies at the box office? You guessed it, "Return of the Jedi." Oh and "National Lampoon's Summer Vacation" was doing pretty good.

I have seen the Holiday Special!
Time
It's so sad that it sucked so bad.

Now the 1980 "Muppet Show" episode where Mark Hamill guest stars, that was a good variety show TV. Sure it was corny, but that was a good fun-time corny. I had no problem watching Mark try to gargle-sing with that scotish muppet creature. Even back then you could tell he was a great cartoon voice guy when he was impersonating Kermet and Fonzie. Good times, good times.

who misses the prequels?
Time
I agree. I have nothing against expanding the back story to Star Wars. In fact, I was all for it. But that is the problem right there. He didn't expand it. He made a pointless CGI movie. I so desperatly want to feel for the characters. I really did. I weep at the fact that I DON'T give a rat's ass about Anakin and Padme. It had so much potential, so much...and it was wasted.

I often fantisize what the PT would have been like had Lucas gone and done the right thing and hire a good director while he just wrote the story and produced it.

But now I hate Anakin and just don't give a flying rat's ass about any of the characters. Even Yoda. My feelings for him come from ESB. Had Yoda died (for some weird loop hole reason) in the PT I don't think I would have cared. The PT did nothing for the OT. Basically it turned into a crappy CGI fan fiction by George Lucas. And even though the PT is canon, I don't subscribe to it. I would rather have my own vision of what happend between Padme/Anakin/Obi-Wan/Emperor, because what the PT shows does nothing for me. My imagination is much more rewarding.

Hell, the AOTC book is WAY, WAY better than the movie. I loved the book. That book gave a pretty good realistic feel for the romance between Padme and Anakin. You actually felt bad for the guy because he couldn't be with his woman. That was a great summer read.
