Star Wars: REBORN - The Complete Saga (* unfinished project *)

Yes "classic" moments like CGI monkeys and CGI molehills that are impossible to edit out. ;)

I'm just mad at Lucas right now. He's like having an alcoholic relative. He used to be great, but now I fear for sanity. It's really frustrating trying to repair the damage he keeps doing to his own work. It is not an easy challenge.

And losing an entire hard drive doesn't help.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Bo. I appreciate it. :)

Well, to top off my week, now I've lost an entire 500gb hard drive...the one that had all my edit stuff on it.

The good thing is it's not a complete tragedy because TJDavis has everything backed up on his computer up in Indiana. But right now, he's vacationing in Florida. :(

So, it's gonna take some time.

Jeez...first Indy, now this. Maybe it's time to hang it up?

Boy, you said it vbangle. This was heartbreaking to watch. I was really holding out hope that Spielberg would be able to reign Lucas in. But, instead, the whole thing was perverted into another big CGI cash-grab.

What a shame.

I think I'm done with Lucas and Spielberg for a while. Time to grow up I guess.

Yes, we're still using Adywan's edit as the base of our ANH scenes. We'll be using elements from both the regular release and the "Purist" edition.

There may, in fact, be an Entr'acte. It's something I'd love to do.

An overture? Probably not.

And yes, we're still taking suggestions for cantina music. I see it as a roaring 20's -type jazz cellar...a smoky, prohibition-era gambling den...Coruscant style. Something upbeat. Loud brass and drums. Maybe a number like "Anything Goes"....or something.

I think he was being sarcastic. ;-)

He means to say that when it's finished we'll be releasing it...

But, it WILL be released in hour-and-a-half-long halves. It's designed like an old roadshow picture, like Lawrence of Arabia...with an intermission between discs. Anyone seen "Alexander: Revisited"? It's loosely based on that type of structure.

About the bar scene: Our version was "inspired" by Trooperman's cut, though it won't be an exact duplicate. We were very impressed with how much atmosphere he was able to create and the foreboding tone he was able to infuse into an otherwise weak scene. So, it's our interpretation of those elements.

A few shots from Blade Runner are being used, albeit slightly different shots arranged in a slightly different way than what TM had. Like his, the framing is tighter throughout the scene and the crowd noise has been elevated to give it a more claustrophobic feel. The colors will be similar, and the music is a toss-up between TM's "Village Inn", "Lapti Nek" and "Iziz Cantina" from KOTOR. I'm partial to "Iziz Cantina" at the moment. It just flows so well with our cut and provides the perfect atmosphere in my opinion.

One major difference between ours and Trooperman's is that his relied heavily on flipped shots. While I understand why he did this (a left to right entrance is better from a cinematography standpoint), we chose not to do this because of the continuity errors it would create. (Lightsabers on the wrong side, etc.)

I'm very pleased with how it's turning out. This scene combined with the revived chase scene help to infuse the AOTC portion with that classic OT feel that we all missed when watching the prequels...

Oh, I'll definitely complete it. Sooner than later, I hope. But with work, family and friends all vying for your attention, it's sometimes hard to find the time for a hobby that isn't providing money, but often causing headaches. Heck, I'm sure I don't need to tell you!

I hear ya, Buddy! Believe me!

Likewise!

Son of Jorel is a project we've been watching and waiting for for a long time. My colleague TJDavis1138 (a huge Superman fan) is particularly excited about your "De-Fifed" shot.

Best of luck in completing it. Hope to see it released soon!

And hey, thanks again for spending the time to make this crawl template available! It is MUCH appreciated.

Anyways.

Yeah! I remember that. During that first scene that reveals the Imperial Fleet, we were going to have a skeletal Death Star II hovering over Mustafar, if I remember right. And the fleet was guarding it, until the call came in from the probe droid that a rebel base was found.

Personally though, I like the idea of plain old Endor rather than Mustafar.

What is your opinion of the hood, Ady? For me, the hood is the worst part. In both TPM and ROTJ, the hood is laying flat over his head, framing his face in a certain way. In this shot, however (probably because they were trying to copy the original chimp thing) the hood is all folded over and it's a mess. I think this issue contributes the most to the Emperor looking a little "off".

That being said, I really love what you've done with the face and the rest of the darkening. I think the facial elements are 100% seamless.

Just as an interesting side note: While working on preliminary stuff for Reborn we were so frustrated trying to fix it that we had finally gotten to the point where we actually filmed someone in costume in front of a bluescreen and then used Ian's facial performace and the hood itself was what we had filmed, and composited all of that over a clean background plate. We haven't yet completed it because we became fully focused on ANH, but plan to pull all that stuff out again once we're ready to work on ESB.

But seeing the miracles you've pulled off with Revisited, you might crack it before we do.

Also, I don't think enough advantage was taken of the scan lines and crackliness of a holographic message. Especially since the Executor is at the edge of an asteroid field. The picture should be slightly interrupted by interference a couple times, like Palps talking to Amidala's court on Naboo.

I just read that poster artist John Alvin died of a heart attack at the age of 59.

Read the story here.

His Star Wars Gallery

It's a shame. He (along with Drew Struzan) was one of the greats. I remember Falle had done some Alvin-inspired covers a while ago on this thread that turned into a nice set.

Anyway...thought you guys would like to know, if you didn't know already.
