Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
The artist is Ryan Church. He's the concept design supervisor on AOTC and ROTS as well as being a creature designer on Spielberg's War of the Worlds. His artwork is amazing. Like McQuarry was to the OT, he's almost single-handedly responsible for creating the look and feel of those two Star Wars films. Many of his concept paintings actually end up as completed shots in the movie. This is a link to another one of his pieces from AOTC Here

And there's a ton of other pics on his official website:

I guess its more to do with the fact that i am doing this edit because of my love for the movies and i enjoy sharing my edits of the movies that i do with everyone. If i were to take donations toward the drive wouldn't that mean that i am profiting in some way from this release? Whats does everyone else think about this?

Personally, Adywan, I don't think you should consider it "profiting" by any means. This forum has traditionally been a very close-knit community. There have been numerous cases of collections being taken up for various reasons. That's just how we are on here, we help each other. Those who want to participate can, and those who don't, don't have to. But I know I'm not the only one who wouldn't mind donating a little money to ensure this project isn't shelved for several months over something as silly as hard drive space.

Let me know.

Just to play devil's advocate here, in a way, the conference room dialogue actually justifies the presence of a fleet. "Dangerous to your starfleet, Commander. NOT to this battle station."

And I would think, maybe the fleet was stationed at the planet, similar to the Endor moon scenario, for security, ferrying supplies and so forth.

When they set course for the Alderaan system, the Death Star presumably travels at a different speed than star destroyers are capable of, so whether it was over-confidence or simply for technical reasons they left the fleet behind at the construction site.

Info Wanted: on this Force Ghost fan-vid for ROTJ...
Time
I don't know what Lucas and company were thinking when they decided to change it to Hayden. The way to fix it is to put it back the way it was originally.

If Lucas wanted us all to identify Hayden as Anakin in ROTJ and forget Shaw, then he should've done it right by putting Hayden in some old-age makeup and reshooting Vader's death scene and matching it up with the '83 footage of Luke. Same for the ghost scene. It could've been done that way.

But hamhandedly pasting some pre-existing ROTS footage onto Shaw's head is just pure douchebaggery.

And this clip doesn't do it justice at all. In fact, I think it's even worse.

Looks great, Klokwerk! I like the colors and the logo gives it a nice OT feel. But can you reverse it so that DARK SIDE on the bottom is bigger than SHROUD on the top? Because I think DARK SIDE is the operative concept here. Know what I mean? Reduce the size of SHROUD, move the "of the" to the top right, then make the DARK SIDE bigger to take up the whole bottom. I think that'd look better. Just my opinion.

That's the thing I hate about Vader's Theme being synonymous with the Empire. Is it Vader's theme? Or is it the Empire's? When it's used, which one is being referred to? Its unfortunate title "The Imperial March" suggests it represents the Empire. But almost everyone refers to it as "Darth Vader's Theme". And you think of Vader when you hear it.

In ESB, the marriage worked because the story revolved totally around Vader, and the Imperial Fleet being an extension of Vader's power. But when you come to the Prequels, and you're trying to make seperate representations using the same piece of music, it doesn't work near as well. That's why at the end of AOTC, during Palpatine's "balcony" scene, the utilization of this music just doesn't ring as true to me, especially after the theme was already associated with Anakin during the confession scene.

When I watched your clip, I first thought you were using the theme to represent Dooku, so I was a little confused.

IMO, I think the theme to represent the Empire should be the Death Star motif from ANH, and the Imperial March should be reserved exclusively for Vader.

Yes!

I stand by that arrangement of the scene and think that's still the way to go with it. We worked really hard on that scene in particular because I felt it was so important to the saga, and after trying many different variations, this is the one we felt worked the best.

Again, it's not perfect, but I feel it's a vast improvement over the original version.

And that Starkiller thread really is packed FULL of fantastic analysis and ideas for Episode I, by a group of people who studied it in-depth, picked each scene apart literally line-by-line, and genuinely tried to improve the material. It's just a shame no one ever got to see it come to fruition.

Johnny Ringo, I'm not sure if this answers your question, but we use Hypercube Transcoder to convert the AC3 files into six mono wavs that we import into Sony Vegas. In a situation where we want to change the music for a scene, we delete the other five channels and only keep the center channel. But, most of the time, there's still a trace of music in that one channel, so if the new music doesn't cover it up, or throws it off in any way, we go in and try to manually remove all sound that is not dialogue. It's not always perfect, but will often pass pretty well. In many cases, we have to completely replace specific sound effects and other ambient noise.

For the trailer, we used this technique alot.

I'll keep this subject in mind for one of the webdocs. Thanks for your interest.

Sounds interesting, lth. There will never be enough edits of Episode I until somene gets it 100% right.

It's gonna be tough. Believe me, I spent six months with a group of very dedicated people going through this film line-by-line trying to make improvements any way we could. The entire movie is a "migraine maker". And just when you think you have it all figured out, it leads you right back to the beginning again. Haha...

Good luck,

Star Wars: REBORN - The Complete Saga (* unfinished project *)

Thanks, SweHanzon. I'm looking forward to your project as well!

Okay, here's the deal... The Rebel briefing is staying in 100%. The Rebel Alliance assault on the Death Star and subsequent space battle will most likely be retained in its entirety as it's top-class filmmaking and IMO, is still to this day, one of the best sequences in any Star Wars movie. For me, the Executor colliding with the Death Star signifies the downfall of the Empire as much as Vader throwing Palpatine over the railing signifies the destruction of the Sith.

The Rebels' attack on the Endor bunker, however, is somewhat different. In short, we're going to go through every shot with a fine-toothed comb and everything objectionable, or worse - cute - will be eliminated.

And earlier in the film, instead of being captured by the Ewoks and almost eaten for dinner, the Rebels will land on Endor and rendezvous with the Ewoks as part of the Rebel plan to capture the bunker. And of course, the Ewoks will be expecting them as honored guests helping to free their planet.

As far as the ROTS deleted scenes... There's something about these scenes I like. I think the actress they got to play Mon Mothma was fantastic. And it's an interesting backstory which provides even more connections to the OT. But, I think I also have issues with some of the acting. Mainly Jimmy Smits.

We're gonna take a look at it and see where they'd fit, if they'd fit. There's a possibility that with a few snips and a change of music we may be able to pull a phoenix out of the ashes.

In any case, we would incorporate them into ESB if anything, not ROTJ, as ROTJ only uses the 2nd half of ROTS.

And yes, we'll undoubtedly be posting preview clips. I've talked to TJ and we're mulling over the idea of maybe doing monthly video webdocs, similar to what the official site was doing with the prequels, and post them on YouTube and our myspace page.

We'll see.

Info & Help Wanted: [<( The Star Wars Trailers Project )>]

This is an awesome idea, Sluggo! I would love to have a disc like this in my collection, because for me, the trailers are always my favorite part of the bonus material.

In fact, it looks like you've got one I've been looking for but can't find online. I think it's the ROTJ: SE trailer which says something about "mysteries revealed" and "destinies foretold"... something like that. I remember it from '97 and would love to see it again.

When are you planning to release it?
