Hi, Zach. Not at all. It will only involve scenes from Episode I.

And in condensing TPM to 7 minutes, do the characters of Qui-Gon and Darth Maul now cease to exist?

No, they don't cease to exist. They're every bit as there as they ever were, but we'll only be focusing on the parts of the film that matter to the later chapters of the story.

PS. Awesome trailer. The best moment by far was "You were the Chosen One!" reflected in Vader's eyes. Great work.

Thanks, Man. I know compliments are rare coming from you, so I'll take 'em when I can get 'em. haha...

Sorry to hear the Ranch is on indefinite hiatus.

Oh, it will certainly be a challenge...

But the good news is, we've divided ROTS in half. So, it's going to be only the second half of ROTS that will be paired with ROTJ, starting with Anakin alone in the Jedi Council chambers during "Padme's Ruminations".

Then, the first half, which is Anakin's slow seduction to the Dark Side will be intercut with ESB.

The whole of TPM will be reduced to a seven-minute prologue with narration, leaving AOTC to be intercut with ANH.

And believe it or not, there are some parallels there. We'll be focusing heavily on the mother storyline and the start of the Clone Wars. And maybe the Kamino stuff, if it works out. We're just hoping that if we choose the right scenes and combine them in the right way, the perfection of ANH will somehow elevate those AOTC scenes. But it's gonna be tricky, no doubt about it. Haha.... That's why we started with Jedi!

Thanks for all the kind words, Guys. Really. It motivates us to go forward.

We continue to be hard at work on this. As of now, we have a rough cut of ROTJ. Of course, it's extremely rough, in fact, it's more of a "placeholder cut". But, we do have one MAJOR sequence finished and that is the Mace/Palpatine duel.

Almost every part of this duel has been altered to be faster-paced, and to eliminate all the goofy facial expressions and bizarre cgi flips. We've taken out the entire soundtrack and thrown it away, then built a new one from the ground up. Totally new music, new saber hums and clashes. Everything from the window shattering, to the wind, to Anakin's speeder, to Mace and Palp's little grunts have been individually replaced. And what a difference. It feels like a real duel now. You really feel a sense of danger and urgency, which was somehow absent from Lucas' cut.

Of course, after all that, I feel like I never want to watch that scene again for the rest of my life...haha....but I think I'll feel different after a couple weeks of working on something else.

So, aside from a few minor adjustments of the audio levels, that entire sequence is good to go. And I must say, we're very pleased. I think you may be too.

Now, we move onto the Emperor's landing at the Death Star...

...To be continued...

Trailer is coming, Guys, I promise. We ran into some last-minute snags with the rendering process, but TJ will hopefully have it up on YouTube tonight. Sorry for the delay.

DarthBalls, we'll be using the 2004 DVD's, except for ANH, where we may use either Darth Editous' version as a base, though Adywan's looks promising too. It depends on when we get to it and what the best version available is by then. Same goes for Casuallimp's question about a 2007 box set. If a TPM digital Yoda is released, we'll be sure to get that on the DVD. We're doing ANH/AOTC last because it'll be the most painful. Haha...

I'm glad everyone's excited about this! Can't wait to show you some stuff.

More later....

What about all the parts of the OT not related to Luke? For example, all of the Han Solo/Princess Leia stuff (including the asteroid field, space slug, and so on), Jawas, Ewoks, and so forth....

How much of the actual OT is retained?

Well, TJ and I both had to drop out of Starkiller for personal reasons at the beginning of the year, and now someone else is running it. Our lives are now back to normal and we're both still itching to do an edit, so I suggested we do this. We are, however, jokingly referring to ourselves as "Revenge of the Ranch Productions".

While we're focusing primarily on the Skywalker family for this edit, that doesn't mean we're cutting out all other characters and storylines. However, There are some things in the OT that we feel are superfluous for this edit and will be condensed. Like, for instance, ROTJ will now open with the Emperor's shuttle arriving at the Death Star instead of Vader's. And the Jabba's Palace sequence, we believe, doesn't truly begin until Luke arrives, so we preamble it with Boushh unfreezing Han in the middle of the night. Ewoks will be subtitled and they'll already be part of the Rebel plan to free Endor. The Rebels will land at their village as expected guests. So, things will be explained but you won't be led from point A to point B. Like in the Godfather, there'll be some room to fill in the blanks.

ANH we're still deciding on. I want to cut and TJ wants to keep. But we've entertained the somewhat radical possibility of panning down to the Death Star after the crawl and opening it with Tarkin's Death Star roundtable, then cutting to the droids arriving at the moisture farm where Luke is introduced. From a story standpoint, it's VERY efficient. It sets up the villain, it sets up the hero, then takes you immediately onto business. You don't lose anything that's not explained later in the film. The downside is, you lose all the Tantive IV stuff which everyone loves, but...

Let me just stress that this is intended as an alternative way to watch the Trilogy, not the definitive way. So expect to lose some scenes which some may consider to be "sacred ground".

And thanks for the support ReverendBeastly and Darth Richard! You guys are always great.

Star Wars: REBORN - The Complete Saga (* unfinished project *)
Time

Okay Guys,

I’m back with a new project.

I’ve teamed up with TJDavis1138 again to bring to life an idea that was inspired by the story and editing structure of Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather Part II”. We feel that the father/son focus of the story, coupled with the epic scope and scale of the production is representative of the kind of editing style and structure we feel could be applied to the six episodes of the Star Wars Saga.

So, in short, our goal is to chronologically rearrange the telling of the Star Wars story in a way that will condense all six episodes into three extended editions, retaining only the best elements of the Prequels while preserving all the surprises of the Original Trilogy. Anakin and Luke’s story arcs will be happening simultaneously now. The son will rise and the father will fall. You won’t know FOR SURE if Anakin is Darth Vader until the beginning of Return of the Jedi.

The events of TPM will now be reduced to a prologue. AOTC will be intercut with ANH. The first half of ROTS will be intercut with ESB and the second half of ROTS will be intercut with ROTJ.

The new numberless episodes will be called: Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Each scene of the saga has been analyzed, edited and tweaked to create (what we think) is the best possible storytelling experience.

In addition, we’re commiting to a 2007 release date on all three episodes to be released at intervals throughout the year.

Out of this will, hopefully, come a new Star Wars Trilogy, re-edited, restructured, reborn. If it’s not the definitive way to watch the Skywalker Saga, then it will certainly serve as an interesting new alternative.

Watch this thread for updates and add us to your friends list on myspace.com/starwarsreborn.

Star Wars: Episode II - The Clone Wars Begin (Released)

SweHanzon,

I really love that scene with the "brother & sister" theme added to it. It's a beautiful setting for that piece and it seems to play well until the end of the scene, where the music sort of just fades out into the next scene. The second clip has the same problem, going from Dooku to the arena. I suggest a transition of some sort for the wipe. Either a raise in strings or a short drumroll. See what you can work out, even if it "announces" the next scene. Notice how in the OT, the music carries us from one scene right into the next. You can acheive that too. It'll give your entire project a much more polished feeling.

But aside from that, it looks really great. How are you planning to distribute it? PIF or torrent or both?

P.S. - Smart use of YouTube, by the way. I can't understand why people are still posting sample clips on yousendit and rapidshare when you can just post it on YouTube and everyone can watch it almost instantaneously.

Hey, what people choose to torrent after they receive a physical copy is out of your control, so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. It's probably going to end up being torrented eventually somewhere down the line, with or without your permission.

Plus, torrenting is not the evil it's made out to be, as long as you're not ripping the new Pirates of the Carribean movie and uploading it, etc., there's honestly nothing for you to be concerned about. It's an extremely efficient, cost-effective way to get your project out to many people in a short period of time. Makes PIF seem crude and ancient.

Looks fantastic, Adywan!

I LOVE the new sandcrawler! And does Vader's helmet look shinier? The sound effects for the escape pod work well, and so does the new trajectory. NICE how it starts to burn up as it enters the atmosphere.

You're doing an excellent job, and I can't wait for this edit to be released!

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)

In ROTJ, he says "Artoo, wait for me!" while walking into Jabba's palace.

And in Empire, while escaping Hoth, running to the Falcon, he shouts "But, but, but...Where are you going? Oh...Come back!", and then "Wait! Wait for me! Wait! Stop!"

I'm not sure if he ever says, "There must be some mistake." But toward the end of Empire, in reference to Lando, he says "I knew all along. Had to be a mistake."
