STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time
Dude! Adywan, you never ever cease to amaze.

I love everything, but the cantina is INCREDIBLE!!!!! The amount of authenticity this adds to the scene is just staggering! For the first time, it actually feels real, instead of like a bunch of guys sitting in a room with masks on. Just a little tweak of the eyes and mouth adds SO much....wow.............especially Greedo! Very, very impressive.

I'd like to know about the process you used to accomplish this. Was it difficult or relatively easy?

I wonder if the same effect could be applied to the Neimoidians in an Episode I edit.

Okay, I watched "Rise of the Sith" today, Slumberland. Excellent job!

I loved the pod race without the announcer! You'd never know he was ever there. It took skill to pull this off, and you did it.

And the way you cut "weesa goin' hoooooome!" was terrific, because I always hated that, and I've tried to cut it before, and I remember it being extremely difficult. I appreciated your manipulation of the music to make that transition work.

The trims at Palpatine's pad worked much better than I thought they would. I was skeptical about this at first, because I love all of Palpatine's scenes. But, you don't lose anything that isn't explained later. I actually think you made it flow better and it added some tension to not know that the Republic really wasn't what it once was until after Amidala witnesses it's malfunction. It also suggests that Palpatine believes in the system, where before it seemed like he was trash-talking it, then saying "I want to be Chancellor". Now, when he promises to end corruption, it seems like he's playing to her and manipulating her further. It's amazing to me that such a simple cut, which you probably made for pacing reasons above all else, adds so much more depth to that part of the story.

And of course the very end shot of the movie was perfect, it's something I always wanted to do. It's the way they should've ended it in the first place.

While being a pretty conservative edit, and not quite as radical a cut as I think this film needs, I still think you've made some very good decisions and executed them seamlessly. And while a person who truly hates TPM won't be impressed by this version, I think it goes a long way in making it watchable for those who only had minor problems with the film.

So, great job! I'm looking forward to watching the other two.

Sorry, I'm just really excited about this one!

Nanner, Haha... The "Star Wars" trailer will be out within 2 weeks probably. It's gonna be the hardest yet I think. But, I'm up for the challenge.

I think an OT style poster would suit this project too-- the original Godfather posters had similar lay-outs. Maybe I can put together some cool elements for you, Steve.

MTH, actually, I've been bouncing different ideas around in my head for what I'd like to try. I know it's a little early to be talking about DVD covers, but I'm thinking of holding a contest for the best DVD cover art, just as inspiration, if nothing else. I'm trying to avoid all of that Struzan-inspired poster art where you have all the characters in a collage. It's just been done to death. I'd really like a look that's unique, something iconic.

I have three different ideas for possibilities that I'd like to see:

1) The first is, one symbol that represents the whole saga of Anakin and Luke in a very sleek, exciting, and compact way. Like the Godfather. Akin to that Special Edition "medallion" thing they were doing in '97. Or I also always loved These Covers. Simple, yet very effective. If we could do half of Luke's face at the top and the opposite half of Anakin's face at the bottom, with the Star Wars logo in the center, I think that'd look good.

2) The second I idea I had was to take the comic book versions of the episodes and create a cool cover for each of the three episodes using just the comic book art with scenes from the movie in little strips going across the top and bottom or sideways... where ever.

3) The third idea was ( and I know it's been done already, but) to make it look like Kenner action figure packaging, or I really loved those bubblegum card covers Coov came up with a while ago. THOSE were awesome. Something nostalgic that brings you back to having Star Wars in your life as a kid.

Here are links to the logos I've created so far. I'm no photoshop expert, but it's been getting us by. If anyone would like to venture out to try any of these concepts or something else entirely, please submit them. If your work is chosen, we'll put you on a short list of people to receive the edits from us personally as soon as they're done.

Thanks to all!

By the way, UPDATE on the Mace/Palps duel - TJ and I burned the scene to disc last night to see how the totally re-built soundtrack sounded on our surround systems. And we were VERY pleased with how it turned out. We'll be posting a short clip of that duel soon.

Stay tuned!

Hey, Nanner... Here's a link to the ROTJ trailer on FileFront, just for you.

Coov, thanks so much for the compliments. You know how much I admire your work, so that means a lot coming from you. Thanks again.

Laserschwert, I'm not sure if you're referring to the first trailer I made, ROTJ, or chronologically the first trailer of ESB. Haha... Damn the Star Wars timeline!

But anyway, just for anyone who may have missed it, for ROTJ I used one track all the way through called "Tarawa" from the Snow Falling On Cedars soundtrack by James Newton Howard.

For ESB, it was a little more complicated:

The very first thing you hear is about 20 seconds of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

Then I used a stock orchestra and choral rise cue until Anakin wakes up from the dream.

It then goes to a track called "Hymn (choir)" from Immediate Music, which is a company that records music exclusively for trailers, on their CD (that they send to movie studios) called "Themes for Orchestra and Choir". You've heard their stuff on the trailers for Chronicles of Narnia, X-Men III, Spider-Man 2, and hundreds of others. You can't buy their music, but if you know where to look, you can find 'em.

Then there was a mixture of a few other orchestral/choral rises to get that chaotic, what Commander Courage refers to as "white noise" sound.

Then, it goes to another Immediate Music track called "Final Omen 2.0 (choir)".

More "white noise".

Then when the title comes up, it transitions to Lisa Gerrard (the chick who did Gladiator) in a track called "Shadow Magnet".

Sweet! Glad to hear it.

Hey, maybe you should start the AdyWan "Hyperspace" club. LOL!

Is there a magazine you could send us?

Seriously though, Adywan, thanks for throwing those extras in there, that's very cool of you. Besides, it's only been a day, you might still get some donations. Some people only check the thread once a week or so.

LOL!

I just put them there as a joke. Hayden's profile says he lives in London and Lucas and McCallum, they're probably fans just trying to look legit. Though I wouldn't put it past McCallum to have a MySpace. Kevin Smith's page is actually him, that's confirmed. The only other one who "may" be the real deal is Frankie Muniz. He contacted me and said he was a Star Wars fan and saw the trailer and loved it. His page looks..."possibly" convincing. You decide for yourself on that one.

There's actually, believe it or not, a lot of real celebrities who have MySpace pages. I've heard that the major record labels won't even listen to a demo unless you have a fan base built up on MySpace. And studios are using MySpace as a promotional tool now for films and TV series, so... I think as the money rolls in you'll see more and more on there.

Regarding the Emperor in ESB:

As much as I HATE how he looks in this scene, we've decided to go with it because it's Ian McDiarmid and it HAS to be Ian McDiarmid, period.

Now, we've tried a million different things to make him look different. We've tried darkening, shadowing, and fading. We've tried getting rid of the hood completely and only having his face. We've tried taking a closeup scene from ROTJ and creating a hologram out of that and placing it in Vader's holo-chamber. That didn't work. We tried changing the scene so he's talking to the Emperor on the viewscreen that he chokes Ozzel on, with just Palps' eyes showing. It was creepy, but it didn't totally work.

So, ultimately, nothing has worked to our satisfaction. So, for the trailer I just used the original. That may or may not change. I would LOVE to improve this some way, but man... This one was a doozie. It still amazes me how a stupid black hood can ruin the entire scene.

Johnny Ringo, I'll PM you about that audio question.

And CC, Nanner, Laserschwert, Adywan and Klingon_Jedi, and everybody else, thanks again for your comments!

Star Wars Reborn TF.N Ripoff Version

Thank you for the heads-up, Marvolo. Good lookin' out!

I'm honestly not too concerned about it. They may or may not be stealing ideas from us. If they are, more power to 'em. I don't own the copyright on Star Wars or The Godfather. And if our ideas inspire them to take the initiative and create something of their own, something that better suits their tastes than what we can create, then rock on.

But, not to worry, I've observed that over the years, the tf.n forums have produced a great deal of lengthy discussion and debate, but not a lot of tangible, concrete product.

Furthermore, after reading their description, it's clear that we're attacking the story from a totally different angle than they are. Our ideas on structure, as well as taste level, couldn't be more in contrast from each other. Quite frankly, IMO, it's no competition. But, I wish them all the best on their venture and hope they succeed in accomplishing what they're setting out to do.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments on the ESB trailer. I'm glad you like it.

Work on our project is progressing steadily. I've recently acquired a considerably larger hard drive which can accomodate what I need to work on all six films at once. So, we'll be working on all three episodes of the Reborn Trilogy at the same time now, as opposed to just ROTJ.

We'll have more updates for you soon.
