Just a small note however, in case you missed the little thing I changed other than the wipes and sequence, I flipped and rotated the wampa's hand when he hits Luke. His "thumb" is now at the top of the screen instead at the bottom which makes it look as though he's hitting him with his left arm instead of a twisted backhand of his right arm.  Just a little nugget for thought but that's always bugged me since I was a kid and its nice to change it around for my own sake.

Although I recently agreed that the shot of the 'Wampa' arm swiping might be better not looking like it's a 'backwards' swipe....I've just realised that the very next shot of the arm hitting/pulling down on Luke, unfortunately shows the paw 'thumb' in the same position too.  This shot would have to be altered a little too, to tie-in better if the 'swiping' paw 'thumb' shot is changed.

I can live with the present look at the end of the day if Adywan prefers things as they are here.

By the way Astromech, I really like your reasoning there.  Thanks to you, that will now be my preferred explaination on the matter.  Nice one. :)

As this is something I meant to bring up when there was a fair bit of 'Wampa'/'Wampas' speculation going on previously, now's a good time, as I don't recall this being mentioned yet on this thread.  Apologies if it has.

Anyway, I have to agree that this shot always niggles me just a little too, and I always thought it should have been shown as DarthStewie has shown it.  It's like the guy holding the prop has it the wrong way round.  If Adywan prefers to keep it as is, then fine, but the 'backwards' swipe thing just seemed....a bit (unintentionally?) awkward-looking to me, although I realise a 'Wampa' probably is awkward.  It just seems a more 'powerful' swipe if it's like DarthStewie's version.

yay! Going to incorporate the unused music in an audio track yay! lol

Agreed.  That is another great thing to look forward to.  Excellent stuff.

Good to hear that you are also planning a subtle 'lens flare' or two in this one also.  Don't know about the shape or colours you'll go for, but the style of your 'Tattooine approach' one certainly looked the part.

By the way, I reckon Kyle got it right in the first place, it IS the 'Ultimate Edition' version as far as a lot of us are concerned.  ;)

Doubleofive - Lol, I can't even remember what pages we did that on!  Somewhere around 106 if I remember.  I sure wish Jay would re-instate the individual pages links at the top and bottom for quicker reference to previous ideas in these long threads of Adywan's....

By the way Adywan, I don't think this has been brought up yet, but I really hope you will incorporate one or two of your subtle 'sun glare reflections' into this edit, as the one you did in the 'escape pod approaching Tattooine' shot was terrific, and really added to the look of that scene.  Perhaps in the 'snowspeeder searching for Han and Luke on Hoth' scene, as it's bright and sunny then, or during the sunset scenes as the MF nears Bespin....

I'm not sure if it is possible to restore some of these without altering the scenes, but there are a few cues that I'm pretty sure you could fit right back in, if you wanted to. Just a thought that ocurred to me while watching the scenes.

If Adywan DOES add to some scenes a little, it would be great to hear some of these unused cues.  I absolutely love the added 'Imperial March' music which came just after Ben's home in ANH:R, as well as what was added during the Vader/Ben duel.  I'm hoping for a little something to do with the Fleet over Hoth, if he adds to that in any way.... ;)

and hearing that we might be getting C3P0 saying "I'm not ready to die...on the back of a demented Wookie!" has definately taken me back to a happy place.  That line was great!

This is how it will look in ESB:R. Taken from my colour corrected version:

Monroville has brought up an interesting little detail there -  Just for comparison, this shot above (as colour-corrected by Adywan) has a far less 'white'-lit front-end in the 2004 release to begin with, than that later shot showing Vader's shuttle approaching it.  The other shots of the Superstardestroyer that show the front-end of it, as seen when moving out of the asteroid field, and near the end of the movie, are lit somewhat more 'bluish' like this shot above too.

But....the shot of it just immediately before the 'Vader in his chamber' scene happens to have an obviously 'white'-lit front-end, just like in the approaching shuttle shot....

It's difficult to make out how it looks in the brief glimpses we get of the front-end of it in the 2004 release of 'Jedi', by the way, so that doesn't really help determine the colour properly.

Maybe it's something that Adywan may choose to make consistent, either by making the front-end of it 'blue'-lit in all shots too....OR making it 'white'-lit in all shots of it.

Personally, I'm okay with either way, or neither, if Ady decides to just leave the various shots alone, as I'm just happy to see the less 'electric' blue he's given the Superstardestroyer, compared to the 2004 release.  Great stuff.  :)

Now as to the colouring of the Executor. the original Blue colour always looked best so i will be keeping it blue (just not as much as it is in the 2004 transfers). the TIE's on the other hand will have their colour changed to light grey/blue. the change in colour will be more explained in ROTJ:R when you will see that the death star TIE's are all grey, whereas the the stardestroyer TIEs will have the slight blue tint to them. But all this may change when i get around to the FX work. Recolouring things can look very fake so, because many of the shots in ESB have the TIEs as grey, if there are any colouring problems then they will have to go back to all being grey. i would rather have the bland grey look than a fake recolour job that looks like the recoloured black & white movies. even using overlays can cause a lot of problems due to the framing of the movies in the GOUT compared to that of the 2004 set. using the GOUT for many of the chase sequence just wouldn't be possible.

But after all i have to remind people that i'm not doing a restoration at all so the colouring does not have to be the same. This is a re-imagining of the saga. If i was doing it as a restoration then it would be of the OOT not the SE

For anyone that might have missed this amongst a wealth of answers by Adywan way back on page 113....

Darksaber- You too are a very talented individual in that case, and nice site there.

doubleofive -  Very interesting to see that approximation of how the TIES might look in the Asteroid scene for the Empire Revisited edit.

And I totally agree, they will look GREAT.  This is one colouration alteration that I am really looking forward to, as I really didn't like the more BLUE-looking ones that came after the Grey ones of A New Hope.

The Revisited edits were started so i can get versions of the saga that i have always wanted to see ( not counting the the OUT of course), so removing blue TIEs fits into that perfectly. I toyed with the idea of keeping blue TIEs only due to nostalgia but after seeing the completed colour correction for those sequences i just didn't like them.

Whew, I'm exausted after all that too!  I reckon that the above statement by Adywan is the ONLY explanation he needs to give anyone, and that goes for any future suggestions too, that any of the good folks here have in the future.

Like his amazing ANH:R edit, there eventually may be a couple of certain little things in this latest planned edit of his that I would have liked to have seen done differently, but I realize that I'm just so damn lucky that there is someone out there with the talent and commitment to generally improve on this whole saga in the first place....and making it available for myself and everyone else to enjoy.  The fact is that his decisions can't please EVERY differing preferrence from everyone interested....BUT we can rest assured that overall, his own personal ones will probably improve things a lot, and are sure to beat the hell out of the many slip-ups that have been made in the past!

Thanks for your continued interaction here Ady, as you are doing marvellous work for us all.

ladyferry -  Thanks again for adding these to YouTube

Adywan -  Great to see your improved colouring on this sequence.  Terrifice stuff.

And your Stardestroyer 'shake' is just perfect!  It's the little things like that which will help to make this edit as awesome as your previous one.

ladyferry -  Thanks for adding those recent clips to the YouTube collection.

professa adyfan -  Nice work, and gives a flavour of how things would've looked if Adywan had decided to go with that.  I like that look too, but don't mind either way.

What I REALLY dislike though is the laser from the circular Rebel 'turret' seen firing at an At-At (which is seen in your clip there).  I always thought that this particular laser looked very 'painted on' and not very good.  Maybe Adywan could improve on it somewhat.

Can you please do something with the distractingly large, unnatural (hey it's ALL unnatural I know!) 'orange glow' that occurs when a very small asteroid collides into the large 'crater' of the huge 'potato-shaped' asteroid, just after Han replies to C3PO, 'Never tell me the odds'.

Perhaps either put in some 'sparking debris' on it's impact, or get rid of the small asteroid, it's shadow, and subsequent 'orange glow' altogether! Either way would be preferable to what is there at the moment. Thanks.

Adywan - The 'glowing' asteroid thing that Monroville and others commented on recently was something I mentioned way back on page 31 of this thread.

While it's not a big deal, it's something bigger than some of the subtler things you've attended to previously, and seems an over-the-top effect for such a small asteroid impact into the bigger one....  Maybe you could consider even 'toning' the resulting explosion down a tad, or make the tiny asteroid a little bigger....

Just a last thought on that.

4. Shortened Wampa scene

Honestly, I don't understand the dislike for the new wampa scene. I know the argument for less is more being scarier, but come on, it's Star Wars, not SAW.

And Lucas would've had it in there in 1980 if he could. Ironically, the bad wampa shot is when we first see it hit Luke and kill the tauntaun.

That's the shot that should be removed.

Show just the claw hitting Luke and killing the tauntaun. Wait till the cave to actually see the creature.

If one looks at it logically, the wampa would definitely take both the tauntaun and Luke. There's no way a large meal like that would be passed up in such a frozen wasteland.

So, seeing the wampa eating the tauntaun makes perfect sense.

The only bad shot in that scene is when the wampa starts to slower lumber toward Luke after it stands up from its crouch. In the next shot from the OUT, it has claws raised and is moving very fast.

That makes no sense. Lose that one shot and the scene is perfect, especially if you add burn marks to the wampa's fur, add a little smoke to the wound, and correct the timing of Luke's lightsaber deactivating.

On the other hand....

I always personally loved that first 'unexpected' scare of the sudden appearance of a roaring Wampa's face popping up into the frame near the beginning, and would not like to see it omitted from Adywan's edit....especially since that first version has got the best-designed facial features as far as I'm concerned....

Yes, it makes perfect sense for the Taun-Taun to have been eaten....but I certainly don't think that Luke's Taun-Taun was left behind just because we only see Luke being dragged behind the Wampa onscreen.  Surely even the mighty Wampa would have struggled to drag both Luke and the heavy Taun-Taun along to it's ice-cave at the same time, in one trip....

While it could be said (and it has been previously) that there is also the possibility that there was more than one Wampa around to share the load....I always thought that Luke had been 'hung up for another time', while the Wampa (or Wampa's) ate the Taun-Taun first, which had been brought back secondly....

As far as which SE shots should be kept or removed, or whether the sequence looked better with none of the new shots, and should just revert back to the minimal original editing and pacing, there seems to be wildly differing opinions, and no consensus unfortunately.  There are a few combinations that would look okay (if they didn't linger so long), but hopefully we'll like Adywan's eventual decision, whatever it turns out to be, even if it reverts to the exact original editing.

Hey, I'm just looking forward to the re-colouring! :)

Just added more details on what will be fixed in this edit to page 1

Fantastic!  Thanks for the latest update on all this.  While they are all going to be anticipated greatly in making this movie even better in many ways, one especially sticks out for me personally -

23. Larger blockade orbiting Hoth

This was always something that I hoped you'd look at in some way, in ANY kind of way.  I don't care how you end up adding to the overall effect here, I'm just really pleased that you are doing something here.  It will be great I'm sure. :)
