STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>

Glorious preview shots once again Adywan!

Considering how different the sky and lighting looks in the original shot, I've been curious about how your new sky / background buildings would turn out in that particular shot of the Falcon on the platform.  Wonderful as it turns out.

(I sure can't wait to see just how transformed the shots of the Falcon and Slave 1 TAKING OFF from the platform will end up looking)

However, there IS something I'd like to say about your 'Leia in window' shot, now that we see just exactly what you amended in the end.  I'll need to do it over 2 following posts -

jones1899, unfortunately it's not sufficient to give you the bare basics of what I intended to show.  The basics are that I've got a different 'beginning' which involves various alternative shot arrangements, and a different 'ending' that also involves various alternative shot arrangements, and it' s just not possible to summarise it into a few sentances.

I really need to lay this out with a lot of screenshots to clearly show what I have in mind.  I'm still in the middle of organising what I need for doubleofive to help me out, and had some coding problems at my end the last couple of days.  These have just been sorted out, but I'm still in a  busy period concerning life in general, unfortunately.

Believe me, I wish I'd looked at all this long before now, and would have liked to have offered this a while back, but all you need to know at the moment is that this will be the longest series of consecutive posts I've ever done on this forum.  (And I reckon I've done a few lengthy ones in the past....)

Thanks for the interest, and if anyone likes them, and wishes to incorporate any of them, then of course they are welcome.  I'm getting through it all, but it's going to take just a little longer yet to do it properly.

By the way it's my Birthday as of a little while ago, and the family have something planned after work that will delay me resuming this till the day after.  But I'll try to finish it all as soon as I can.  Must get some sleep now.

While I can see that a direct 'wipe' from the shot showing Ozzel glowering at Captain Needa, straight to the one of Han atop the Falcon, fixing it, could work out okay....I'd miss this Rebel Base shot not being included for these reasons -

We get to see a lot more of the Base, including seeing some of the actual large 'Transports', in this establishing shot.

We'd miss out on the exposition about the intentions for the 'snowspeeders' which Leia doesn't cover later on, since we hear "Groups 7 and 10 will stay behind to fly the speeders...."

And most of all we'd miss out on Adywan's intentions to totally re-do this shot in his own inimitable way, which has GOT to be worth seeing!

Also, personally I'd prefer if we don't return to a 'blue' hue for the clouds in general during 'Luke's approach to Bespin City", as I really like the 'whitish' / 'greyish' colouring that is going on now, but it's no biggie at the end of the day.

By the way, like vaderios, I'll admit that I too thought teharri was hoping for TWO preview shots per week rather than one....until it was pointed out that the word "DUEL" was used, rather than "DUAL", lol.  :)

I hope no-one minds, but seeing as the latest 'cloud' shot has been shown above again (still minus it's X-Wing element), I wanted to see the other recent 'cloud' shot (from earlier in the movie) shown a few pages back, in close proximity to it on the same page for an at-a-glance comparison of the lighting differences between the time periods.

So here it is.

That latest 'cloud' shot looks like a 'Turner' painting in comparison to the original look.  The new lighting makes the city's setting seem truly 'realistic' now, and the brief glimpse of the sun behind the city (which will appear towards the end of the shot) sounds like it'll be a very nice moment indeed.

I guess it might even end in a brief 'lensflare' then, perhaps.  Since the added ones on 'ANH:R', turned out so well, I'm sure it'll look equally great if Adywan has decided to add one here.

Either way, this shot is bound to look amazing in 'motion' eventually.

vaderios, I wouldn't worry about any CGI being used here and there if necessary, as I'm sure it will only be included if it's as good as the stuff previously done for 'ANH:R'.

I really liked your speculation on how the background 'cloud' lighting might look in this shot eventually, now that we have a rough idea of how Luke's 'approach' shot is going to look....  With or without any buildings in the distance at this point, I like your effort.

just recently it was suggested that when Luke approaches Bespin that it should be later in the day because the sun is setting shortly after. Now i had spent 5 days working on  the new moving  matte shot of Luke's approach and had just finished it and i loved it until i saw this suggestion.  i've now gone back and had to change most of the elements and start from scratch because i like this idea. luckily i could reuse all the tracking work i had originally done and have now completed it (minus the xwing which needs to have a new element added) but the finished shot is 1000% better than it originally was.

This sounds great for continuity, and your revised version could make a nice option as a future 'Thursday shot' to preview sometime.

Also, it would be of great interest to see even a frame from your original take on this shot, if that is at all possible, for comparison's sake.

Oh, and it was neat to see a little more of the Bespin city 'stem' in your previous recent 'cloud' shot.

jones1899, just a quick update to let you know that I'm STILL compiling my suggestions (only) for some possible changes to the 'beginning' and 'ending' of this movie, using the existing footage.

I've now seen another couple of possible tweaks during those portions that I REALLY like, and that may be of interest to others, too.

At the end of the day, it's still only 'KOTCS', but taken in conjunction with some of the great ideas on this thread for the bulk of this movie, I've definately got a re-arrangement of the 'beginning' and 'ending' that I'm happy with now.

doubleofive has kindly agreed to sort out even more of the screenshots I need to show all this properly, and I'll try and get everything up here, as soon as time allows over the coming days, when it's all in place.

Ooh! thats nice, it looks like the Cloud Car hopping to the gas refinery first then onto Cloud City... Just a wee glimpse of the refiery would be cool.

Going by the lack of 'engine glow', It seems that Adywan's present intention is to replicate the 'cloud-car' coming away from the city towards us, as it was in the GOUT. And I think this shows the GOUT element at the moment.   I reckon it would work just as well even if he decided to have one heading towards the city in this shot though,  as it would STILL juxtapose nicely with Luke's receding X-wing in the previous shot, and especially well with the receding 'cloud-car' of the new 'city fly-through' that follows this.  I'll love it either way.

sketchrob and vaderios, interesting that you look on the SE shot that way.  The perspective of the 'refinarery' has always seemed fine in the foreground for me personally, as the higher, distant city itself seems to be such a huge structure, and such an indeterminate distance away, that it's quite hard to tell if the perspective is off.  Although I didn't care for the removal of a 'cloud-car' in the shot, I wasn't distracted by the perspective issue.  It seems it's not going to be in the shot at this point anyway, but I'm not against it being included anymore, after seeing Sevb32's mock-up.  Having looked at the current movement of the SE shot and it's clouds, the new shot will be terrific in 'motion' I'm sure.

Davnes007, thanks very much for sticking that 'menu' shot up for me! Nice one.   Although the colouring doesn't match the existing footage, I was keen to see the detail on it.

Adywan, I remember requesting long ago that you consider replacing the SE shot with something that was 'reminiscent' of the original 'cloud-car' shot.

Personally, I was always more than happy to have a 're-used', or 'flipped' existing 'cloud-car' element placed into any new shot you came up with, if it meant getting a bit of faster 'movement' back into the shot again, as well as getting that 'engine roar' sound effect back too.  So I didn't expect it to necessarily be a reproduction of the GOUT version coming directly towards us.  In fact, I thought it was likely that one of the existing RECEDING 'cloud-car' elements would be used, which would have looked good too, I guess.

By the way, can anyone show a shot of the the one that flies in 'close-up' to us on one of the SE 'menu' screens, when you press 'play' on the 'Millennium Falcon landing' one?  I always wanted a good look at it, but it goes by so fast.

Anyway, these are one SE addition that I thought turned out well, so I wish Husker the best in matching the standard of them.

I REALLY like your mock-up there Sevb32, considering I always disliked the 'silent refinery' SE shot.  I guess knowing that the 'cloud-car' is back, makes everything okay for me.  The best of both worlds then.  Looks good.

Great stuff once again Adywan!

However, I'm so conflicted.....  The city itself looks terrific, and definately an improvement compared to the SE (and GOUT) versions.  But while the clouds look great too (and I'm sure will have a nice 'motion' to them), I really liked seeing the long 'stem' in this shot previously (which was a really great design element of the floating city), which has now been obscured by some of the new cloud pattern.  I also liked the overall composition of the previous original shots because of the 'foreground' cloud bank on the left of the frame, which gave some real depth to the scene.

I sure love the fact that the 'cloud-car' coming towards us is re-instated, as I really missed the sound of it's 'engine roar' getting louder in this shot....and I personally detested that SE 'refinery' addition in it's place.

I preferred the juxtaposition of Luke's X-wing receding away in the previous shot to this one, then the 'cloud-car' coming towards us.  So I'm very glad it's back, and  I guess we now have the EXTRA juxtaposition that comes in the shot immediately after this now, as the SE 'city fly-through' starts with a 'cloud-car' receding away again.  This whole sequence of shots will look excellent together.

The thing i was trying to get across is that in the Ot the designers and set builders did a great job making things look like they didn't come from our time and universe even with the limitations of what stuff could be used, whereas the PT many things look like we actually could have these things on your desktop PC or car etc. I don't think that any of the sets in the OT look dated at all. from a design point of view they work perfectly. you have to remember a few words that start the movie...."a long time ago......" . everything in the OT universe had that lived in look which went against the grain of usual sci-fi. The PT could have been any old or modern day sci-fi using character names from Star Wars. The PT will date a lot worse than the OT ever will.  All the buttons and switches gave the sets character which most of the PT sets sorely lacked.

I remember when i was a kid and i always wanted to redecorate the rooms in my house into sets from the movies. i actually still would love to do something like that now. But there isn't a single set piece in the whole PT (accept fro reused sets from the OT like the stardestroyer bridge or the Tantive IV etc) that i would even want to recreate. i found that kinda sad. The whole design element in the PT is very forgettable

no ships will have touch screens in the Revisited OT. From a design point of view the PT should be changed to fit in with the OT and not the other way around.

Agreed.  The Prequel's design-ethic in general was a disappointment for me in many areas, too....so I can't wait to see any slightly  more "old-school" OT moments.

And Thursday has come round again, yay!  Looking forward to the latest preview shot.  :)

I know Adywan wants to improve on this effect somewhat (and I'm sure it will be great), but I'm kinda hoping the replacement will be a similar FULL-length shot, somewhat resembling this existing movement and angle.

And thanks for that belly laugh young Docta Nick....

Just have to get this off my chest for it really is more of an 'out of the blue' comment.   Last night on Spike TV here in California they had a star wars.   I remember ignoring the prequels and caught up with A New Hope just to find myself really upset watching it since it was not Adywan's version.    I know what was changed and it really was all for the better in every way.   Again watching A New Hope, the so called Special Edition, was really upsetting I found myself yelling and arguing at the TV for no reason as well as constantly slamming my hand at my forhead out of frustration.   So today I had to watch the Revisited version and I felt all better.

Yes, it seems like Adywan's version is more DEFINATIVE than the supposedly 'definitive' version!

The majority of Star Wars fans are blissfully unaware that they are watching a 'lesser' version now, and I only wish that Adywan's version was the official one for everyone to see....  Lucky us then.

Ok this may have already been brought up if so apologies. anyway, around 4secs in to the AT AT clip Luke is running towards what appears to me to be the right rear leg of the walker. If this is correct, that leg has a central stability strut running up it that disappears on the next close up of the leg at around 8secs.

Seeing as you asked, I've had a good look at this, freeze-framing it etc., and while Luke definately seems to be running towards the AT-AT's right-rear foot initially, after another 'close-up' shot of him running a little more, it seems that the next 'close-up' of a foot is one on it's LEFT side, as Luke is behind it.  It's hard to tell if it's the front or rear left foot, but the 'strut' thing is okay either way.  The added background detail to these 'foot' close-ups are marvellous now though, and make a big improvement to the shots.

vaderios -  although that script idea was decided against in the end, I'd certainly like to see a couple of your excellent mock-ups to show how you'd portray it using Adywan's clip.

How about instead adding a snow speeder cycling around ,with a towcable, of the fallen At-At having one speeder smashed on the windshield and then the Walker falling down with some smoke and fire from its head?( im talking for the newer, ady's, additional At At not the original solo ;) )

Not sure if a 'suicide' snowspeeder is the way to go there vaderios....  or if that would topple it that way.

StormTrooper -  Adywan recently confirmed that he intends to have a snowspeeder being seen to be 'tangling- up' the 'falling' AT-AT, before it falls, in the previous shot (before Luke runs towards the underneath of the LEFT one) where we see the 3 AT-ATs firing at the retreating Rebel troops.

InfoDroid, this radical re-structuring edit you are working on sounds terrific.

Incorporating Gaith's inspired idea of using that particular 'black and white' footage from Raider's ending is truly a terrific way to introduce things, before leading up to seeing the 'US Warehouse' once again at some point....  That will make a fantastic start to a radical edit, and I only wish the ACTUAL movie had worked this 'brief reminder' concept in too, in some way....

And the 'intercutting' of certain scenes with the 'interrogation' sequence is a great way to go too.

HeKs has also come up with some excellent ideas about just WHAT could actually be intercut at this point, and I really like them as well.  Food for thought indeed.

Whatever you decide, the concept of intercutting SOMETHING with the interrogation stuff is brilliant in itself, and this already has the makings of a fascinating edit.  The colour correction is a big bonus too.

Good luck with this project, as a heavily re-structured version will be VERY appealing.

I loved the clip Ady, but it is a little wierd that 2 At-Ats goes down in seconds, i'm assuming there is more than 3, just not visible. Maybe you could add some faint At-Ats in the background or something, like that ones you replaced, just a thought, the few that I have :/ But I really don't know what you have planned, The way I like it ;]

Don't hurt yourself and get some sleep!

Josh, Adywan has decided to stick with 5 AT-ATs as per the original number (and gave good reasons a while back), and those 3 AT-ATs shown here are seen at the very END of the battle, where the Rebel troops are now retreating.

The one on the LEFT-hand side is the one just about to be seen 'falling' in the distance in the new 'group' shot (and Adywan intends to add the encircling snowspeeder around it in the shot shown here), while the one on the RIGHT-hand side is the one that Luke is just about to rappel upwards to, and blow up.

The original 'falling' AT-AT shot occurs previous to this new one by a good length of time in the battle, when it was brought down by Wedge and Jansen, so won't seem 'weird' or 'close together', as they occur very seperately, with LOTS of intercut scenes of other events between them....

So that leaves 1 other AT-AT that may or may not have been brought down too ((unseen by us) out of the original 5, by the time of this shot shown here, so I don't know if Ady will include it or not.

Now I think we BOTH need to get some sleep, lol!

Can someone tell me why that AT-AT is falling? You see 3 AT-ATs then a shot of look coming up underneath then you see an AT-AT falling but I didnt see anything make it fall.

Adywan recently stated that he intends to add a snowpeeder encircling the left AT-AT in that first (unfinished) shot of the new clip.  I notice that during the marvellous new 'group' shot where the tiny Luke rappels upwards, that there has been a tiny snowspeeder element added that is moving away from the rear of the small 'falling' AT-AT in the distance.  I'm guessing that it is meant to be the snowspeeder that brings it down, as seen flying away after it's supposedly 'detached it's tow cable'....and the one that will be shown encircling the left AT-AT before the shots of Luke rappelling up....

I'm also guessing that the scale of the 'falling' AT-AT in the shot now is too small to show any of the tiny snowspeeder's 'tow cable' around it's legs, unless Adywan still plans to add the slightest hint of it.

Ady, are you, as Imperial Fighter suggested, adding additional elements to the falling AT-AT shot to explain why it falls (rope, laser, etc.)?

yes. you'll be seeing a snowspeeder circling the AT-AT in the wide shot of the 3 AT-AT's

Thank the Maker!

And as far as that other shot (the unfinished wide one of the 3 AT-AT's), I love the idea of yet another snowpeeder being briefly seen trying to bring down one of the other AT-AT's!  (It could be that Wedge and Jansen have come back for another crack at it, of course....)   That will be an another awesome addition Adywan.

Glad to see that one added to the collection ladyferry!
