Imp's MOVIE TRAILER SHOWCASE - Past, Present, and Coming Soon...
Time

Since it's recently been confirmed that James Cameron has helped Guillermo del Toro to get his 'AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS' H.P. Lovecraft project started...here's a little fanedited trailer I came across a while back, which I thought was nicely atmospheric...

AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS Fanedited Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw3tuiND_xk

Coming Soon...  Guillermo del Toro's 'AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS' is in early development for release in 2013...

*UPDATE* - Unfortunately, 'Universal' have now passed up on this opportunity, it seems... :(

I was all excited, put it in my calendar even, then noticed "Back in 'cinemas'". That sounded rather British to me, then I realized that I hadn't heard of it because it wasn't in my country.

I assumed the upcoming 'BACK TO THE FUTURE' re-release was coming out across USA too.  I'm surprised if it's just us that's getting it.  Keep an eye on your listings nearer October in case of developments.

Good news!  It seems that there's definately going to be a re-release in the USA after all.  It looks like it's only for a couple of days later in October across 40 cities in the AMC Theatre chain, but here's the details - http://www.amctheatres.com/Script_to_Screen/_Back_To_The_Future__Returns_To_AMC_Screens_For_25th_Anniversary_Celebration!/

It's actually showing this Friday onwards at my local VUE cinema here in UK though.  :)

And here's another trailer before I go...

Yeah it was the old Odeon in Edinburgh 😄

Heh, I suspected as much.  When ‘MARS ATTACKS!’ came out in 1996, the majority of Scots couldn’t stomach a day longer of Conservative rule by then, and even a monkey could have beaten them in the 1997 general election…  I’m not surprised some in the audience were happy to see the parliament blown up at that point!  😉

Okay, continuing randomly on…

JUDGE DREDD  (released 1995/directed by Danny Cannon)

Coming soon…  Pete Travis’s DREDD is due for release in 2012…

IDEAS FOR INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL -

SHORTEN HOTROD BEGINNING, BUT GET MAIN TITLE AND ATOMIC CAFE SHOTS IN.

HAVE ALIEN LOOKING INTENTLY AT SPALKO AND SEEING THE DEAD LOCAL NATIVES SHOT THAT I TOOK OUT FROM EARLIER IN THE MOVIE.

Have a look at ‘The Fox Cut’ cutlist by ‘TheFoxMan’ to see if there’s anything of use. I think I’d rather include the way I was going to show the vehicle convoy passing the atomic cafe’ sign initially, with just a hint of the hotrod playing Elvis music, but re-check my notes. He mentioned something about cutting out the crystal skeletons changing into an alien. Is this a good idea or not for my version?? Would it work with the way I want to show ‘annoyed’ alien ‘seeing’ that Spalko and her Russian goons killed the local natives??

IDEA FOR HOW TO END ‘ROGUE ONE’ TO MAKE IT ‘TIE-IN’/‘MATCH BETTER’ MORE WITH THE OVERALL ‘FAN SERVICE-FREE’ TONE OF THE ANDOR SHOW - I REALLY LIKE THIS POSSIBILITY! -

Definitely want to DISCARD ALL of the VADER scenes, as I’d rather have him be a mystery figure (like JABBA in ESB), and keep to his initial SILENT entrance in ANH - and also because I really hate the look of him in this, especially his gloves!

…DEATH STAR FIRES AT PLANET, HITTING TOP OF TOWER (and killing Krennic), as we continue as normal as the alien general looks down through glass at the explosion on the planet, and then we continue as normal as we see him in CLOSE-UP saying ‘ROGUE ONE, MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU’, as he closes his eyes…

CUT to CLOSE-UP of Jyn and Cassian walking, as they collapse on beach and Cassian says 'YOUR FATHER WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD OF YOU JYN - NOTE - I WILL NEED TO PLAY ABOUT WITH ALL THESE SHOTS OF THEM BOTH, TO MAKE SURE I CAN GET THE MUSIC TO JOIN AS BEST AS I CAN - and we eventually end on them being obliterated in white (I might end of CLOSE-UP of Jyn, before the whiteout, but not sure yet), and we continue on as the explosion ripples across the planet (and end at the point just before we see and hear the TIEs flying past)

CUT to CLOSE-UP of alien general opening his eyes and looking upwards, as we continue to hear him say ‘ALL SHIPS, PREPARE FOR JUMP TO HYPERSPACE!’ as we see the rebel fleet ships start to jump…just a Stardestroyer suddenly appears firing in front of them, and one ship crashes into it…

(NOTE - This is the ONLY ‘tie-in’ to Vader and the Stardestroyer we see at the start of ANH that I want to include in my version)

CUT to shot of Tantive IV passing by us over the planet (at the point that the ‘smoking’ flagship is out of the frame) - NOTE - I need to include this, or it will seem as if the next shot is happening inside the Stardestroyer!, and we continue on as normal as rebel troops run down it’s white corridor to the sound of alarms, and continue on as Leia is given a message and says it’s ‘hope’, as the Tantive IV then jumps to hyperspace, and the circular ‘iris’ appears to the credits.

LATEST REVISED THOUGHTS ON HOW TO POTENTIALLY END ‘ROGUE ONE’ - INSTEAD OF ENDING WITH ‘CGI LEIA’ SAYING ‘HOPE’, I MIGHT END THINGS ON THE ‘TANTIVE IV’ SHIP NARROWLY ESCAPING FROM VADER (DESPITE HIS ‘GAUNTLETS’!) AND THE STORMTROOPERS INSTEAD…BECAUSE I REALLY LIKE THE IMAGERY OF THAT BETTER, AS IT GIVES THINGS A DARKER TONE TO FINISH THE MOVIE ON, CONSIDERING THAT JYN AND CASSIAN WERE KILLED -

…a close-up of Krennick looks up, and the Death Star fires down towards the planet, destroying the top of the tower that ‘Krennick’ is on…and we transition to the seated alien general looking down at the explosion…as we transition to a close-up of the general saying ‘ROGUE ONE, MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU’, as he blinks and looks upwards a little…as we transition to hearing the general then say ‘ALL SHIPS, PREPARE FOR JUMP TO HYPERSPACE!’ as we see the rebel fleet ships start to jump, just a Stardestroyer suddenly appears firing in front of them, and one ship crashes into it…and we transition to Vader coming to a halt, as he looks out at the rebel flagship getting fired at…as we transition to a close-up of Vader’s mask…as we transition to the underside of the stardestroyer…as we transition to a medical frigate breaking up…as we transition to a close-up of Jyn and Cassian (FINISH OFF DESCRIPTION HERE, AS WE CONTINUE AS NORMAL WITH THEIR DIALOGUE AS THEY LOOK TOWARDS THE EXPLOSION APPROACHING THEM AS THE MUSIC SWELLS!)…and we transition to Vader looking out the stardestroyer windows as we hear a voice saying ‘THE REBEL FLAGSHIP IS DISABLED MY LORD’ (and CUT at this point before we then hear ‘BUT HAS RECEIVED TRANSMISSIONS FROM THE SURFACE’, because Vader’s helmet is squint when he then looks to the left at the end of the shot!)

CUT to ‘fairly matching music’ as we see Vader on the stardestroyer bridge saying ‘PREPARE A BOARDING PARTY’, as he turns and walks away, as an Imperial officer says ‘YES MY LORD’, and moves forward…and we transition to the ‘music rising’ as we see a close-up of Cassian hugging Jyn as he closes his eyes…and we transition to a close-up of Jyn hugging Cassian with her eyes open…as we transition to see Cassian and Jyn hugging as the explosion engulfs them in pure whiteness as the music fades away…and we transition to seeing the explosion quietly spread across the planet’s surface, as the music rises again, when an Imperial shuttle and a few TIE fighters fly towards the damaged rebel flagship…and we transition to a close-up of a rebel trooper telling another to ‘HURRY’, as they receive a ‘transmission’ of the ‘Death Star plans’, embedded on a small card (which Leia eventually inserts into R2D2 in A NEW HOPE), which one of the rebels holds up in a close-up as the music ends ‘duh, duh, duh, DAAA’…

CUT to a close-up of a rebel trooper shouting ‘LAUNCH!’…and we transition to other rebels running through the TANTIVE IV’s white corridor, as one of them pulls down on a lever…and we transition to a close-up of clamps unlocking…and we transition to the TANTIVE IV ship dropping down out of the belly of the disabled rebel flagship…and we transition to a close-up of the TANTIVE IV’s rear engines igniting, as it accelerates away above the planet below…and we transition to Vader holding a red lightsaber moving to the edge of a platform with some stormtroopers behind him, as he stops and turns it off…and we transition to Vader looking down at the TANTIVE IV flying away in the distance…and we transition to a close-up of Vader’s mask, as we slow zoom-in towards him…

CUT to the TANTIVE IV’s cockpit interior as it accelerates to hyperspace…as we transition to the TANTIVE IV disappearing away from the planet below…as we transition to a circurlar ‘iris’ with the words ‘Directed by GARETH EDWARDS’ (NOTE - I MIGHT end things on the slow zoom-in close-up of Vader’s mask, and then CUT to the words ‘Directed by GARETH EDWARDS’ instead - not 100% sure yet)

THIS IS THE SCENARIO I LIKE BEST, WHICH MAINTAINS THE BULK OF THE SCORE I LIKE. AND I THINK I’D PREFER TO END WITH THE VADER SCENE, RATHER THAN THE LEIA SAYING “HOPE” SCENE.

I might re-edit the ‘transmission’/Jyn and Cassian leaving Krennic to his fate’ scenes like this (not 100% sure yet) -

Soon after Cassian shoots Krennic, and just after Jyn has pulled down a lever, we then see a close-up of Jyn -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal as the red readout on the console downloads, as we hear the words TRANSMITTING…TRANSMITTING, and Jyn turns round and smiles -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal as Cassian smirks back at her -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal as the ‘transmission’ is received on the rebel flagship, as an alien rebel says ADMIRAL…RECEIVING TRANSMISSION FROM SCARIF!, and the general turns and looks down below -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal -

…and we end on this shot -

AT THIS POINT, we would normally then transition to Jyn going over to Cassian, then start to run towards Krennic who is groaning on the ground, as Cassian pulls her back and tells her LEAVE IT, LEAVE IT…LET’S GO - but I’m not too keen on this scene for a couple of minor reasons - Jyn’s teeth look a little goofy, and the way that Krennic is lying on the ground makes him look a little goofy too - so I would probably discard it altogether and go directly to the shot described below.

…then I’d CUT back to the interior of the rebel flagship, as the ‘transmission’ continues to download, as a voice says TRANSMISSION RECEIVED, and an alien rebel says ADMIRAL…WE HAVE THE PLANS!, and the rebel general says SHE DID IT! -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal, as Jyn supports Cassian, as he says DO YOU THINK…ANYBODY’S LISTENING?, and Jyn replies I DO…SOMEONE’S OUT THERE -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal, as we see the rebel fleet -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal, as an alien rebel says SIR, WE’RE DETECTING A MASSIVE OBJECT EMERGING FROM HYPERSPACE! -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal, as the Death Star appears -

…and we end on this shot -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to the Admiral looking down at the explosion on the planet below -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of the Admiral saying FINISH THIS OFF! -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to the rebel fleet as we hear the Admiral say FINISH THIS OFF! -

PUT A COUPLE MORE SHOTS HERE!

…and we end on this shot -

…then CONTINUE ON as a stardestroyer suddenly appears and starts firing -

…as a rebel ship explodes against the stardestroyer -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to Vader looking out at the rebel flagship on the stardestroyer bridge (THIS WOULD BE HIS FIRST APPEARANCE IN MY IDEAL VERSION OF ‘ROGUE ONE’) -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of Vader -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to the underside of the stardestroyer as it continues to fire on the rebel flagship -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of a ‘rebel frigate’ exploding in half -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to Jyn and Cassian walking together -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to Jyn and Cassian dropping down to the ground as the explosion approaches them -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of Jyn as she turns towards Cassian -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of Cassian saying FINISH THIS OFF!

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of Jyn smiling -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of Jyn holding Cassian’s hand -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of Cassian and Jyn looking out towards the approaching explosion -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to Vader looking out at the damaged rebel flagship from the stardestroyer bridge -

…then CUT at this point where Vader is looking straight ahead immediately before his helmet goes ‘squint’ when he looks over to his left (ADD A LINK TO THE ‘SQUINT’ HELMET SCREENSHOT) -

…then CUT to a close-up of Vader saying FINISH THIS OFF!, as he turns to walk away, and an officers says FINISH THIS OFF! -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of Cassian as he holds Jyn close to him -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of Jyn as she holds Cassian close to her -

…and we end on this shot (NOTE - I MIGHT END UP CUTTING DIRECTLY TO THE ‘WHITEOUT’ IMMEDIATELY AFTER THIS, NOT 100% SURE YET) -

…then transition as normal to a wide shot of Cassian and Jyn being overwhelmed by the explosion, as the whiteness fades to the explosion on the planet, as Vader’s shuttle and TIEs approach the damaged rebel flagship (NOTE - I MIGHT END UP CUTTING IMMEDIATELY BEFORE CASSIAN OPENS HIS EYES, NOT 100% SURE YET) -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to 2 rebels receiving a transmission, as one shouts HURRY! -

…and we end on this shot (NOTE - I had to use 4k shot here) -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of the transmission showing the Death Star plans, as a rebel picks up a ‘hard copy’ of it in close-up -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal, as one rebel shouts LET’S GO! -

…then transition as normal as the rebels start to run, and one yells GOTTA GO, NOW! -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal as several rebels run down a corridor -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal as the rebels continue running down the corridor -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal as the rebel holding the ‘hard copy’ struggles to open a stuck doorway -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of the doorway window, as the rebel with the ‘hard copy’ bangs the window and shouts HEY! at rebels on the other side -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal as the alarm grows louder and all the rebels turn around and aim their weapons -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal as the rebels aim towards the dark, creaking corridor, as we slowly zoom-in towards Vader igniting his lightsaber -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of a rebel aiming, as someone yells **OPEN FIRE!*, and the rebels start firing their weapons -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to the rebels firing -

…then transition as normal to Vader deflecting the laserbolts with his lightsaber, as he moves closer -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal as the deflected laserbolts start to hit the rebels -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to more rebels getting killed by deflected laserbolts -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a close-up of the rebel holding the ‘hard copy’ banging on the doorway window, and yelling HELP US! -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal as Vader keeps slashing and moving closer -

(NOTE - I had to use a 4k screencap for the next shot)

(NOTE - I had to use a 4k screencap for the next shot)

…and we end on this shot, where I’d CUT at the point IMMEDIATELY BEFORE he raises his hand out to ‘Force -lift’ a rebel against the corridor ceiling (AS I DON’T WANT VADER TO LOOK TOO ‘OVER-POWERED’ BEFORE ‘A NEW HOPE’, AND ALSO BECAUSE THE GUY RISING TO THE CEILING LOOKS A BIT RIDICULOUS!) -

…and then I’d CUT to the close-up the rebel at the doorway window, as another rebel says IT’S JAMMED! -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal, as we the desperate rebel through the doorway window, as Vader gets nearer -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal, as another rebel tries to move the doorway on the other side -

…and we end on this shot -

NOTE -I’D GET RID OF THE SHOTS OF VADER SLICING THE GUY ON THE CEILING AT THIS POINT, AND ‘FORCE-FLINGING’ THE REBEL’S WEAPOINS OUT OF THEIR HANDS, AS I DISLIKE THE LOOK OF HIS GUANTLET GLOVES, AND THE REBELS STILL SEEM TO HAVE WEAPONS IN THEIR HANDS IN SHOTS THAT COME AFTERWARDS!

…and then I’d CUT to this shot of Vader slicing at the rebels (which comes IMMEDIATELY AFTER their weapons are flung behind him, as he then ‘Force-lifts’ a rebel up and throws him against the corridor wall) -

(NOTE - I had to use a 4k screencap here) -

(NOTE - I had to use a 4k screencap here) -

(NOTE - I had to use a 4k screencap here) -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal, as we see the remaining rebels in disarray -

…and we end on this shot (NOTE - I had to use a 4k screencap here) -

…then continue as normal, as Vader continues to swipe at the remaining rebels (NOTE - I had to use a 4k screencap here) -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal to a close-up of the rebel holding the ‘hard-disc’ struggles to budge the jammed doorway (NOTE - I had to use a 4k screencap here) -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal as Vader closes in on the rebel holding the ‘hard copy’ (NOTE - I had to use a 4k screencap here) -

…and we end on this shot -

and we end on this shot (NOTE - I had to use a 4k screencap here) -

…then continue as normal as Vader ‘Force-lifts’ the rebel off the ground, ‘Force-chokes’ him, and ‘Force-throws’ him against the corridor wall -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal to close-up of rebel holding the ‘hard copy’ through the doorway gap, as he says HERE, HERE… (NOTE - I had to use a 4k screencap here) -

…and we end on this shot -

…then continue as normal to a wide shot of the rebel putting the ‘hard coppy’ through the doorway gap (NOTE - I had to use a 4k screencap here) -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to close-up of rebel yelling TAKE IT…TAKE IT! -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to Vader’s lightsaber cutting through the rebel and the door -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to the rebel with the card running and tripping through the doorway -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to the rebel with the card falling to the floor, as Vader slashes at the other rebels -

…as we see the close-up of the rebel shouting “LAUCH!” -

…then transition as normal to rebels running in the corridor -

…and we end on this shot -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to Vader and stormtroopers, as he walks forwards a little and turns off his lightsaber -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to Vader watching the TANTIVE IV escape -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition as normal to a slow zoom-in towards Vader -

…and we end on this shot -

…then CUT to the interior of the TANTIVE IV jumping to hyperspace -

…and we end on this shot -

…then transition to the TANTIVE IV stretching momentarily before it disappears (I can’t find exact shot of it) -

I won some preview tickets to Mars Attacks! on a radio show quiz and when the Houses Of Parliament got blown up there was a standing ovation.

Lol, I’m curious to know if that happened in a UK cinema?

And here’s another set of trailers for now…

IDEAS FOR HOW I’D RESTRUCTURE ‘HALLOWEEN’ (2018 VERSION)

I’m a huge fan of John Carpenter’s classic ‘Halloween’ slasher, and would change nothing about it…EXCEPT the very beginning. I’d prefer to DISCARD the entire opening sequence with the ‘point-of-view’ of young Michael stabbing his sister, then getting unmasked by his parents - and instead would CUT from the end of the opening credits once the words Directed by JOHN CARPENTER fade away DIRECTLY TO the black screen showing the words SMITH’S GROVE, ILLINOIS and OCTOBER 30, 1978 as we hear lightning and rain as Loomis and a nurse drive towards the sanitorium.

And while there’s good moments in David Gordon Green’s 2018 ‘Halloween’ sequel and it’s follow-up ‘Halloween Kills’, I’d prefer to restructure both of them differently for myself for a two movie storyline. And the less said about ‘Halloween Ends’ the better, as it’s a complete disaster!

So I’d start with the UNIVERSAL, MIRAMAX, and BLUMHOUSE logos and quietly atmospheric music as normal -

…and continue on as normal with the initial yellow credits below -

PUT THIS INFO. IN A BLUE BOX - At this point I’d prefer to begin the movie with a totally different sequence, as I’m not keen on the existing opening scenes showing 2 journalists visiting elderly Michael in a prison complex.

…then CUT to a cop chasing Michael (using the ‘flashback’ sequence seen near the beginning of ‘Halloween Kills’), as we see the words HADDENFIELD, ILLINOIS followed by HALLOWEEN NIGHT 1978 -

FINISH OFF DESCRIPTION HERE OF HOW I’D RE-EDIT THIS WHOLE OPENING SEQUENCE WHICH CONCLUDES A COP BEING KILLED IN THE OLD MYERS HOUSE, AND MICHAEL BEING SURROUNDED BY ARMED POLICE -

…we see a distraught cop beside his dead partner -

…as we hear Loomis’s voice shouting STOP! MICHAEL, STAY BACK! as other cops appear -

…as this cop says IT’S HIM! -

…and then this cop says IT’S HIM…MICHAEL MYERS!

…as the distraught cop appears at the top of stairs -

…and Loomis shouts up OFFICER HAWKINS…TELL ME…WHAT HAPPENED IN HERE… as we then see the distraught cop again briefly -

…then CUT to the close-up of Loomis shouting DID MICHAEL KILL AGAIN?

(NOTE - highlight this info. in blue - I’ve cut this down from Loomis’s awful line reading of OFFICER HAWKINS…TELL ME…WHAT HAPPENED IN HERE…TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED, DID MICHAEL KILL…DID MICHAEL KILL AGAIN?)

…as the sequence ends as normal with the cop at the top of the stairs, the body of his dead cop partner, and Loomis coming out of house as Michal stands still surrounded by armed cops -

…then CUT to the ‘HALLOWEEN’ 2018 main title as the quicker-tempo music kicks in along with rest of the credits -

…and continue on as normal as the pumpkin inflates until we eventually get to the end of the credits -

…as the main theme music fades out, and we hear the male journalist’s voice say OKAY, WELL… as the words HADDONFIELD, ILLINOIS fade to black briefly -

…and we continue on as normal as we see the male journalist driving in a car and speaking into a recording device, as he continues saying …HAVING WITNESSED THE ANIMAL IN IT’S CAPTIVE STATE, AND FAILED TO PROVOKE ANY SORT OF RESPONSE…WE NOW TRACK DOWN IT’S COUNTERPART…COULD IT BE…THAT ONE MONSTER HAS CREATED ANOTHER… (FINISH OFF THE DIALOGUE HERE) -

**Coming Soon… ** Zack Snyder’s SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL is due for release in 2012…

LATEST NOTE TO MYSELF - REGARDLESS OF SOME OF WHAT’S WRITTEN BELOW, I COULD MAKE A JOINT SOLO/OBI-WAN KENOBI ‘PREQUEL MINI-FEATURE’ AS A SORT OF POST-ROTS ‘CATCH-UP’ ON HOW THE ‘SKYWALKER TWINS’ ARE PROGRESSING…WHICH FEATURES MY PREFERRED SOLO SCENES FOLLOWED BY MY IDEAL OBI-WAN KENOBI SCENES, AS THE EVENTS OF THE SOLO MOVIE ARE SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN APPROX. ONE YEAR BEFORE THE EVENTS OF THE OBI-WAN KENOBI SHOW - HOWEVER, IT COULD JUST AS EASILY BE IMAGINED THAT MY VERY CUT-DOWN MONTAGE OF SOLO SCENES MIGHT BE HAPPENENING AT AROUND THE SAME TIME AS THE OBI-WAN KENOBI SCENES I’M INCLUDING, AS THERE’S NOTHING TO CONTRADICT THIS NOTION.

AS WELL AS SOME CHEAP-LOOKING ASPECTS TO THE SHOW’S EPISODES, I ENDED UP HATING THE OVERALL’OBI-WAN KENOBI’ STORYLINE AND THE WAY IT INTRODUCED CERTAIN ‘BACKSTORY EVENTS’ WHICH SEEMED TO BLATANTLY DISREGARD AND CONTRADICT DIALOGUE ESTABLISHED IN THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY MOVIES…SO DEFINITELY AGREE WITH A LOT OF THE POINTS HIGHLIGHTED IN THIS THREAD ON THE SHOW’S INCONSISTENCIES WHICH FEATURED IN THE ‘Beyond the Original Trilogy’ SECTION OF THE FORUM -

https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Original-Trilogy-vs-Kenobi-inconsistencies-and-stretches-between-plus-in-series-issues/id/95439

…SO I INITIALLY THOUGHT I WOULD END UP LOOKING ON THIS LATEST ENTRY IN THE FRANCHISE AS A DISAPPOINTING ‘FAN FICTION’ MISFIRE WHICH I’D NEVER REWATCH…WHICH WAS A PITY, AS I REALLY LIKED SOME OF THE ACTORS INVOLVED ALONG WITH THE EXCELLENTLY CAST ‘YOUNG LEIA’…until I realised that I could instead just restructure some of the scenes I liked into an alternate short MINI-FEATURE which WOULDN’T contradict the Original Trilogy, for a bit of additional ‘Star Warsy’ fun for myself (in the same way I’d cannibalise a few select moments of the SOLO movie into a MINI-FEATURE for myself) …which would involve NO ‘Inquisitor’ antics…NO Darth Vader shenanigans…NO mentions of the name ‘Obi-wan’ apart from the show’s title…NO ‘Young Leia’ or ‘Bail’ involvement with Obi-wan whatsever…and NO bloody ‘Disney’-fied, ‘Batteries Not Included’-like LOLA droid either!

HERE’S HOW -

silent LUCASFILM logo fades to black (use ‘coppery’ one with brief music cue?) -

NOTE - CAME ACROSS THIS FAN-MADE LOGO WHICH SOUNDS GOOD - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5mIJ8BVuhQ

(I MIGHT then CUT to the STAR WARS title receeding silently)

CUT to the ‘A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…’ wording, as we see a ‘prequels storyline’ RECAP which begins over Coruscant - which I’d prefer to include as little bit of ‘context’ before we see what ‘happened next’ -

(NOTE - I’d DISCARD certain dialogue/shots which I wouldn’t want in my own ideal versions of the ‘prequels’ - Obi-saying “The boy is dangerous, they all sense it, why can’t you?” beside Anakin/Obi-wan falling down towards Anakin’s skyspeeder/“You are the most gifted jedi I have ever met” over fighting insect aliens and wedding shots/“This is the end for you my master”, “I have failed you Anakin, I have failed you”, “It’s over Anakin, I have the high ground”, “You underestimate my power” during lava fight/“You shall be known as Darth Vader” (NOTE - I MIGHT replace this with actual side-on close-up of Helmet shutting and breathing)/“Obi-wan, there’s good in him”/“Rise”/“Leia!”/“Luke!”) -

…which ends on this shot of Obi-wan turning away, as we fade to black -

CUT to OBI-WAN KENOBI main title at this point? (or do I keep it for IN-BETWEEN ‘feisty young Leia with parents’ sequence and ‘Obi-wan’ sequences? -

IMPORTANT - NOT 100% SURE YET, BUT I THINK I MIGHT START OFF WITH AN OBI-WAN SEQUENCE (BEGINNING WITH THE SAND CRITTER) WHERE HE EVENTUALLY SPIES ON LUKE FROM A NEARBY CAVE, AND THEN CUT TO MY PREFERRED RE-EDIT OF A ‘FEISTY YOUNG LEIA’ SEQUENCE I FIND UTTERLY CHARMING, AS A JUXTAPOSITION BETWEEN THE HARSH TATOOINE CONDITIONS LUKE LIVES IN COMPARED TO THE LUSH BEAUTY OF ALDERAAN THAT LEIA LIVES IN, AND A WAY OF INDICATING THAT OBI-WAN IS THINKING ABOUT HER TOO AT THIS POINT -

CUT to re-edited ‘feisty young Leia with parents’ sequence, as Leia eventually scolds her cousin for being rude about droids -

…eventually we come to Leia’s cousin mocking her for thanking her droids, saying “You don’t need manners when you’re talking to a lower life form”

as Leia responds “Then I guess I don’t need manners when I’m talking to YOU!”

as her cousin is momentarily taken aback, then says “You know the difference between you and me, cousin?..”

as he then says “…I know things…”

as we end on this shot -

DISCARD the dialogue of Leia’s cousin saying “You know, my father says they never let you leave this planet…they don’t want anybody to know about you because…”

CUT to this shot below as Leia’s cousin says “You’re not one of us…”

…as he continues saying “…you’re not even a real Organa”

…and we end on him smirking -

CUT to Bail looking over -

as things continue as normal, as Leia protests “He was being horrible to everyone” -

as things continue as normal with Bail’s conversation with Leia, as we end on this shot of her looking out of the window as Bail walks away -

CUT BACK TO SEEING THE BACK OF OBI-WAN WHICH WAS SHOT THAT FOLLOWED ON FROM HIS CLOSE-UP BEFORE I CUT TO LEIA’S SEQUENCE?? -

as things continue as normal as Obi-wan drops off the toy at night (NOT SURE IF I’M DOING IT THIS WAY YET! - OR SHOULD I THEN CUT TO THE OBI-WAN KENOBI TITLE HERE, INSTEAD OF EARLIER, AND THEN CUT TO MY ‘YOUNG LEIA’ SEQUENCE??) -

NOTE - WRITE DOWN THE CURRENT ORDER OF ALL THE OBI-WAN SEQUENCES THROUGHOUT EPISODE ONE AND EPISODE 6

CUT to re-edited OBI-WAN sequences which culminates in him seeing Qui-gon at the end eventually -

We see Obi-wan digging up 2 lightsabers -

ADD MORE PICS HERE

as things continue as normal as we end on this close-up of Obi-wan looking around then down again (OR DO I KEEP THIS BIT FOR AFTER THE ‘TRAINING DUEL’ FLASHBACK?? -

CUT to the ENTIRE ‘flashback’ of Obi-wan’s training duel with Anakin on Curascant -

and things continue on as normal, as we see Obi-wan smiling at a defeated Anakin -

(NOTE - SHOULD I CUT TO SHOTS OF OBI-WAN APPROACHING AND ENTERING CAVE HERE FIRST?, WHICH COME AFTER THE SCENE OF THE JEDI DANGLING AS OBI-WAN LOOKS ON)

CUT to Obi-wan packing up to leave his cave dwelling with the ‘Skyhopper’ toy -

MORE PICS NEEDED HERE

and continue on as we eventually see his interaction with Owen and young Luke -

as things continue as normal, and the ‘Force’-ghost of Qui-gon appears -

as things continue as normal, and Obi-wan pulls up and says “Master Qui-gon…” -

as things continue as normal, and Qui-gon turns around -

DISCARD Qui-gon saying Well, took you long enough" and Obi-wan saying “Beginning to think you’d never come” (his hairstyle looks a bit different in this shot)

CUT to silent Obi-wan shot -

CUT to close-up of Qui-gon saying “Come on, we’ve got a ways to go” (so that he DOESN’T call him ‘Obi-wan’!) -

as things continue as normal, as Obi-wan smiles and continues on his way -

as we end on this final shot as music concludes -

CUT to silent LUCASFILM logo to finish things off?? -

NOTE - having the toy ‘Skyhopper’ seen in A NEW HOPE turned into something ‘Ben’ gave Luke in his childhood is a small ‘retcon’ I’m content to go along with as a way to utilise the footage into a nice little feature for myself overall.

A FEW ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS - I MIGHT consider CUTTING from Leia saying “Then I guess I don’t need manners when I’m talking to YOU!” directly to Bail looking over and frowning, thus removing Leia’s cousin talking about her not being a real Organa. ALSO - I MIGHT consider SPLITTING UP MY OBI-WAN KENOBI footage so that it ‘bookends’ the particular SOLO footage I’m using, so that it feels like one continuous feature instead of two separate storyline. This would require NOT including the OBI-WAN KENOBI and SOLO main titles, and just starting things off after the usual blue wording. IN FACT, I MIGHT split things up so that we begin with some OBI-WAN KENOBI footage…then CUT to the SOLO footage where we’re introduced to Han and Qui’ra escaping from Corellia…then CUT to more OBI-WAN KENOBI footage…then CUT to more SOLO footage as we see Han and co. planning a heist on the train/winning the Falcon off Lando/the Falcon crash-landing with Han, Chewie, Lando, and Beckett - DO I SPLIT UP ANY OF THESE SCENES WITH OBI-WAN KENOBI SCENES TOO?? ALSO - I MIGHT consider NOT including the ‘flashback’ of long-haired Obi-wan dueling with short-haired Anakin, as I reckon they look a bit too old to smoothly fit in with how they looked before the short-haired Obi-wan and long-haired Anakin of REVENGE OF THE SITH - however, I’m still not 100% sure whether I’d miss this out or not.

UPDATED THOUGHTS - The above idea wouldn’t work, as it would seem that the KENOBI and SOLO footage was occurring at the same time period…making Han seem MUCH, MUCH older than Princess Leia which he eventually has a romance with! So SOLO must be set quite a few years AFTER the KENOBI show to make Han much nearer Leia’s age, or things will seem creepy! - So I need to put my SOLO footage AFTER my OBI-WAN KENOBI/LEIA footage, no-matter-what!

THE FRIGHTENERS  (released 1996/directed by Peter Jackson)

Theatrical Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmQxM32PWRM

I’D PREFER TO SEE AND HEAR THE PHANTOM MENACE END SOMETHING ALONG THESE LINES INSTEAD -

…the Neimodian control ship gets blown up…

…and we continue as normal, as the droid army shuts down and Jar Jar says ???, and we end on Captain Tarpals saying ???

…and then I’d CUT to Darth Maul swiping his lightsaber over Obi-Wan…

NOT SURE YET WHAT OTHER SHOTS I’D STILL WANT TO INCLUDE AT THIS EXACT POINT HERE - NEED TO STUDY THE SCENE MORE

…we hear Obi-Wan grunt as he STARTS to leap upwards (NOTE - I’M NOT including the silly shot of him flying up)

…and then I’d CUT to Qui-Gon’s body as the lightsaber beside him shoots into Obi-Wan’s hand as he somersaults over Maul, then cuts him in half…

FILL IN MORE SHOTS HERE, AS WELL AS WHAT PALPATINE SAYS AT END OF THIS SHOT BELOW

…and then I’d CUT to

FILL IN MORE SHOTS HERE, AS WELL AS WHAT IS SAID

FILL IN MORE SHOTS HERE

…DO I END ON THIS SHOT OF JAR JAR BOWING HIS HEAD AS WE HEAR A MOURNFUL R2?? -

…OR DO I END ON THIS SHOT OF PALPATINE?? -

…OR CAN I PUT THE PALPATINE SHOT SOMEWHERE BEFORE WE END ON THE JAR JAR SHOT??

LEGEND  (released 1985/directed by Ridley Scott)

Teaser Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az40e63ZClU

Theatrical Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz16afKwpWM  NOW GONE!  Will look for replacement soon.

Some very good points as usual from others around here. Well the 6th episode had some neat moments along the way, but it was yet another mixed bag for me overall.

The ‘cliffhanger’ that this penultimate episode ended on - 'Grogu having to CHOOSE between learning to be a Jedi or rejoining Mando - is going to be the most important indication of how season 3 of THE MANDALORIAN is going to turn out. If ‘Grogu’ decides to stay with Luke, then Mando will be freed up to have adventures on his own without having to worry about having the child around anymore. Perhaps he could end up more like a ‘lone wolf’ kind of character, or perhaps end up with some other form of sidekick partner eventually? Either way, the show might feel refreshed somewhat if it goes down this route.

Additionally. we wouldn’t need to see ‘Grogu’ (or ‘deepfake’ Luke) again if he chooses this option. and the implication would be that ‘Grogu’ MIGHT be one of the students that were eventually massacred by Kylo and his followers in THE LAST JEDI movie… And seeing as Luke is portrayed as being dogmatic about the established Jedi ‘rules’ of ‘attachments’ in this latest episode, it adds weight to him beating himself up so much when we see him in that movie - adding to the impression that when he rails against the dogma of the Jedi order to Rey, he’s actually railing against himself and his own dogmatic ‘teaching’ failures too, and has understandably been brought low and cynical by the deaths it resulted in. Despite disliking the direction that the Sequel Trilogy storyline took with Luke and other characters, there’s a part of me that wishes that Disney and co. would go down this ‘dark’ route, and retire the cutesy character of ‘Grogu’ altogether at this point, to allow for this possible scenario to tie-in with THE LAST JEDI’s ‘training temple’ outcome. Hell, they were content enough to kill off ALL three of our main heroes from the Original Trilogy after all, so why not?

But the kids needn’t worry, as the chances of that happening are ZILCH…and there’s ongoing ‘Grogu’ merchandising to consider, no doubt…

…and during the previous episode, the mechanic Peli Motto made a point of saying that she had ‘hollowed out’ the space where an ‘astromech droid’ would normally fit on Mando’s ‘starfighter’…so as sure as ‘Grogu’ is green, I’m gonna guess that he WON’T end up wanting to be a Jedi after all…and that we will see him merrily whizzing around with Mando once again, come that show’s next season…

…and a ‘starfighter’ toy with little Mando and ‘Grogu’ figures in it WOULD look pretty neat I suppose… 😉 I just felt sad for the little guy for being made to ‘choose’ one or the other in the first place…as you just know that he wanted a shot of that little lightsaber so bad!

Anyway, the final episode is also going to determine how good an ending THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT show is getting, and I don’t mind admitting that I’m kinda nervous seeing as it’s another one by Robert Rodriquez! Hopefully he (and the writers) can come up with something better than his 2 previous episodes - the ‘MOD gang’ has been very muted since their initial appearance thankfully, and I just hope he doesn’t go overboard with any involvement they have in this last episode - someone on another site wished the youths had been given a more grungy, ‘Mad Max’-look to them and their bikes overall, rather than looking like something from a trendy ‘Coruscant’ fashion show…and I agree.

So we’ll soon find out if this particular show goes out on a high or not…but either way. I reckon that THE MANDALORIAN show in general is now inextricably linked with this one, and that fans of Mando and ‘Grogu’ really need to watch both shows to understand things better - especially if Mando and a ‘chainmail’-wearing ‘Grogu’ start off their next season adventures in the ‘starfighter’. Still, anything could happen in the finale of THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT, so I’ll be watching with interest.

As far as the ‘facial look’ of Luke’s scenes in episode 6 go - although not all of them were as convincing as others, there were some that I thought were truly excellent. And some of the musical moments were really great during those scenes too, I thought. I wonder if these were 'Shamook’s first ‘official’ deepfake efforts since joining Lucasfilm? Some terrific work overall, but having studied those scenes a little more, I reckon it’s straightforward to shorten some of them to remove the less effective shots I wasn’t too keen on, while retaining the ones I liked best.

In fact, there’s SO MANY potential ways that the entire show could be cut and re-arranged, that I might play around with sections of it a little more for fun, if the final episode makes it worthwhile to me. For instance, although I showed a possible way to alter the show’s opening scenes more to my own liking back on page 10, there’s a very different style of opening I’d prefer to see now - INSTEAD of showing Boba having ‘flashbacks’ in his ‘bacta tank’ right from the off…I quite like the notion of the first episode starting in a much more straightforward, ‘linear’ way before that aspect of the show is introduced…which would still involve kicking things off with a drastically cut-down version of Boba’s ‘Sarlacc escape’ which leaves it open-ended about HOW he actually got out…

…then we CUT to twin suns, as we pan down to a familiar desolate part of Tatooine…

…but instead of seeing Boba’s hand burst through the sand, we CUT to hearing heavy breathing from inside a familiar helmet as the music kicks in at this point…and we see an exhausted Boba collapse to the ground, as the music fades down again… (NOTE - MAYBE I’D SHOW BOBA CRAWLING A LITTLE EARLIER BEFORE THE ‘VISOR’ SHOT, THEN MISS OUT THE SHOT WHERE THE SAND IS ‘DRIPPING’ OVER THE VISOR, AND CUT TO WHERE IT ISN’T DRIPPING OVER THE VISOR INSTEAD?)

…then things continue normally as per the episode, as we transition to a Sandcrawler coming across Jabba’s barge wreckage at night, and the Jawas steal Boba’s armour and knock him out…

…and then we continue on as normal, as the Tuskens come across Boba and take him back to their camp as a prisoner…as THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT titles appear, and Boba (who’s now shackled) then gets tormented by a group of young Tuskens, and gets stamped on his head, and everything goes dark…

…and at some point AFTER all this, I’d eventually introduce the fact that Boba is actually having ‘flashbacks’ of his desert experiences from inside a ‘bacta tank’ somewhere inside Jabba’s palace…and would have his first PRESENT DAY storyline ‘flashback’ be the scene of him and Fenec Shand infiltrating Jabba’s palace and killing Bib Fortuna, as he then takes Bib’s throne for himself…before eventually being wakened by Fennec…

But I hope to elaborate on all that and more on another thread someday, and in the meantime, it just remains to be seen if we get any more ‘scooter gang’ antics in the final episode, or not… 😉

IMPORTANT NOTE - if anyone wishes to comment on any of this, please DO NOT re-‘quote’ the entire post. Thanks!

NEW POSSIBLE THOUGHT - I COULD EVEN ADD A SHORTENED ‘LINEAR’ VERSION OF ‘THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT’ ONTO THE END OF MY ‘SHORT’ STORIES OF HAN/CHEWIE AND OBI-WAN/LITTLE LUKE/LITTLE LEIA…WHICH WOULD START WITH BOBA SURVIVING THE SARLAAC, THEN SHOWING AN EDITED VERSION OF HIS TIME WITH THE TUSKEN TRIBE AND MEETING/SAVING FENNEC SHAND…THEN TAKING THE THRONE FROM FAT BIB FORTUNA, AND HIS FIGHT WITH THE SYNDICATE AND THEIR GUNSLINGER…BEFORE ENDING WITH FENNEC SHAND KILLING THE MAYOR AND GANG LEADERS, AS SHE THEN DISAPPEARS UP THE STAIRS! (NOTE - NO SCOOTER SQUAD OR MANDALORIAN OR GIANT ‘TERMINATOR’ ROBOTS OR HEALING CHAMBERS INVOLVED)

THE WAY I’D PREFER TO HEAR JAR JAR’S INITIAL DIALOGUE AFTER HE’S SAVED BY QUI-GON -

…we see Qui-Gon shouting “GET AWAY, GET OUT OF HERE!” before he throws himself on top of Jar Jar…as he then walks off into the woods as Jar Jar says “HEY WAIT!” and goes after him…

…then I’d CUT to this point where Jar Jar says “MEESA CALLED JAR JAR BINKS…MESSA YOUR HUMBLE SERVANT”, as Obi-Wan replies “THAT WON’T BE NECESSARY” -

THE WAY I’D PREFER TO SEE AND HEAR THE PODRACE END IN THE PHANTOM MENACE -

Anakin overtakes as Sebulba crashes and ends up exclaiming “POOHDOO!”

NEED TO REALLY CHECK THIS CAREFULLY FOR THE SOUND AND MUSIC FIRST, BUT I’D IDEALLY LIKE TO CUT TO THESE SHOTS OF THE WATCHING GROUP AND ANAKIN’S PODRACER NEXT -

…and then I’d CUT to the close-up of R2 beeping, and C3PO saying “I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!” (UNLESS I decide to keep C3PO’s introduction to ATTACK OF THE CLONES only! - like Adywan intended) - BUT CHECK THE FOOTAGE FIRST TO SEE IF I WANT TO CONTINUE WITH ANY OF THE ORIGINAL SHOTS BEFOREHAND HERE FIRST, INSTEAD

…and then I’d CUT to a disgruntled Watto eventually saying “EEEEHHHHH!” - BUT CHECK THE FOOTAGE FIRST TO SEE IF I WANT TO CONTINUE WITH ANY OF THE ORIGINAL SHOTS BEFOREHAND HERE FIRST, INSTEAD

…and then I’d CUT to the point where Jabba looks round slightly, as he grunts “HMMMMMMM!” (UNLESS I decide to include the WHOLE shot where Bib Fortuna taps him to wake him up, instead)

  • NOTE * - I MIGHT prefer to shift the R2/C3PO shot to IMMEDIATLELY BEFORE the Qui-Gon/Watto shot shown below - not sure yet

…and then I’d CUT to Qui-Gon going to speak to Watto about winning Anakin off him

The 7 Faces Of Doctor Lao was one of my favourite films when I was a kid and I still love it.

Yeah, ‘7 FACES OF DR LAO’ was something I always liked to catch on TV when I was younger too.  It’s one of those gems that doesn’t seem to be available on DVD here in the UK, but I got it on Region 1 for my 2 young brats who loved it too.  It was great seeing it again after all these years.  😃

And here’s something else I used to make sure I caught when I was younger, whenever it was shown.  Again, it doesn’t seem to be available in UK, so I had to order this on Region 1 for the young 'uns too.  And again, they loved it!  But unlike the washed-out trailer shown here, the original sumptuous colour on the DVD is terrific, and was another great piece of nostalgia for me…

CAPTAIN SINDBAD  (released 1963/directed by Byron Haskin)

Theatrical Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPW2iyT_V64

NEW OPENING SCENE I’d prefer for ‘THE MIST’

(so that I can get rid of the 'poster art shots which ‘take me out’ of the movie immediately, and stick to the more atmospheric lightning sounds instead, rather than the continuous radio music tune)

The DIMENSION FILMS logo fades in to the sound of lightning, then fades out to black as we hear just a snippet of the original radio intro. tune…

Then I’d CUT to the pull-back shot of the family watching the lightning storm as THE MIST title comes up…

Then we continue as normal, as the family go down into the basement for safety…

Then I MIGHT CUT to the tree crashing through the window towards us at this point…

OR…I MIGHT instead CUT to the last final black bit of the ‘tree’ shot above at this point, as sound of the lightning fades away, and we fade into daylight the next morning, and see the devastation outside the house…

I was all excited, put it in my calendar even, then noticed “Back in ‘cinemas’”. That sounded rather British to me, then I realized that I hadn’t heard of it because it wasn’t in my country.

I assumed the upcoming ‘BACK TO THE FUTURE’ re-release was coming out across USA too.  I’m surprised if it’s just us that’s getting it.  Keep an eye on your listings nearer October in case of developments.

In the meantime, I’ll continue on randomly…

NOTE - rather than starting the Boba escape scene ‘inside his helmet visor’, I might instead start just AFTER the initial shot of his arm breaking through the sand and hitting the ground (immediately after the hand shot fades out), where the background has changed and we now see him grunting as both his arms go up -

…OR…I MIGHT instead start at this point below, just after he has pulled himself out upright, as an alternative way of slightly extending our look at Boba’s escape before the ‘inside his helmet visor’ shot, and the music would blend nicely here with the preceding Boba in the tank shot -

I haven’t been around to comment on this show before now, but I’ve really enjoyed the majority of THE MANDALORIAN’s initial 2 seasons. I wasn’t expecting too much from the TV show side of things initially, but it’s exceeded my expectations with some excellent moments throughout…and it’s been fun to be transported back to a ‘STAR WARSY’ setting on a regular basis.

And since I’ve just mentioned on the main THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT discussion thread that I’d prefer to alter the ending of the 2nd season more to my own taste, I thought I’d show EXACTLY HOW over here.

It was a fantastic moment when ‘Luke Skywalker’ initially revealed himself at the time…but despite a good effort, the digital face replacement wasn’t quite there during all the shots, mainly due to a somewhat ‘dead-eyed’ look I think. On top of that, things then ended up being just a little too schmaltzy for my liking, which is another reason I’d rather alter it. But that’s just my own take on that at the end of the day.

I’ve since seen Shamook’s excellent ‘deepfake’ improvement of the scene on YouTube of course, and I only wish that there could be a future official release of the show using his version. I would be content with the existing ending if that was the case. Anyway, it’s terrific news for us all that he’s actually been hired by Lucasfilm now, and it’s great to know that this type of thing is in very capable hands for their future shows.

Anyway, here’s how I’d alter things for a less schmaltzy, final moment once the summoned Jedi is allowed to enter by the Mandalorian…

As the tension builds, the Mandalorian puts the child down, and then presses a switch to open the doors…

…and as the anticipation builds, we get our last look at the waiting group…

…and then the lightsaber switches off, as we get to the ‘Oh WOW, look who it is!’ moment…

…and as a brief reprise of John Williams’ familiar music plays over Luke’s casual reveal, I’d finish off with a final look at ‘the child’ who looks back at him and blinks…

…and then I’d CUT to blackness as we hear a brief echoing sound (from where the lift door closed during the final shot in the original version), as the echo fades to silence and the words ‘Directed by PEYTON REED’ appear, before the end theme begins as normal…**

So I’d be content with just that, as we only see the best of the existing ‘Luke’ shots, without having to see any more of them. A ‘Jedi’ has heard the child’s ‘Force call’, and come to his aid…so we are at the end of the Mandalorian’s mission now. We effectively end on the sudden ‘Oh WOW!’ factor of the reveal that it’s actually ‘Luke Skywalker’ who has responded, and know that all will be well for the child now, with no further dialogue necessary.

Now onto the NEXT season’s adventures, post haste!

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.

With one thing and another, It’s been over 2 years since I’ve commented at length about anything specific around here…BEFORE THE DARK TIMES…BEFORE THE RISE OF…er, THE PANDEMIC! But I’ve had plenty of time to mull over the conclusion of the Sequel Trilogy which came out at the end of 2019, and hope to go into some thoughts of my own on it before too long. Along with an idea or two also, but that’s for another day.

As a long-time fan of the Original Trilogy’s imaginative world-building, I wondered what a regular live-action TV show would offer in a ‘Star Warsy’ setting…so I’m glad to say that I’ve found plenty of impressive and fun moments throughout THE MANDALORIAN and THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT shows so far.

After previous disappointments with certain aspects of the franchise, I’d kept my expectations very low for THE MANDALORIAN. I initially had some reservations about how things would turn out when I found out that the main character was going to be accompanied by a little, doe-eyed, Disney-fied ‘yodaling’…but he’s turned out to be a big hit now, even though I wasn’t too keen on the idea at the start. And due to the way things progressed in the show, I warmed to him too…especially as he remained SILENT throughout, rather than being given some kind of awful ‘toddler Yoda’ voice. Thank the Maker!

Yes, there’s been some overly-goofy moments along the way, but both shows have had enough entertaining moments in them to offset any eye-rolls I’ve had with them. And Boba’s ‘backstory’ involving his experiences with the Tusken tribe really helps to strengthen his initial appearances in THE MANDALORIAN show for me now too.

So yeah, It’s still a great time to be a fan of the franchise I reckon, and if the overall quality of these initial two shows are anything to go by, them I’m certainly looking forward to all the other live-action spin-off shows yet to come too.

However, having said all that

just as I thought that THE MANDALORIAN season 2 finale’s last moments came off a bit unconvincing and cloying for my taste, I also had a couple of niggling issues with the opening episode of THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT too…

…because a scene showing EXACTLY HOW Boba escaped from the Sarlacc was always going to be a big moment that a lot of us were looking forward to seeing onscreen…but I’m afraid that Robert Rodriguez came up with something very mediocre, as far as I’m concerned…because the way he ended up putting this major sequence together was lacklustre and cheap-looking I thought, with lazy camera angles and strangely-edited shots…and very little sense of jeopardy overall. And as a fan of a lot of his work, it pains me to say that.

I’d hoped for a much more substantial sequence for that moment, but it was poorly handled I felt. Practical effects can look excellent if they are done well, but the start of the Sarlacc ‘flashback’ was a gloopy, rubbery-looking disappointment for me, and the whole thing seemed rushed overall. And I didn’t particularly like the way Boba was shown to escape in the first place, with his hand suddenly bursting upwards through the sand like something out of the ending of ‘Carrie’! Some may love what we got, but I guess I just hoped for something a bit more dramatic and better-staged for this particular sequence.

Hell, I’d rather Boba had just managed to get his jetpack to splutter back into life for a few seconds eventually to be honest, and then grenaded the beast’s insides on his way out for good measure. At the very least I’d have liked to have seen less cutting and better camera angles used on the actual scene Rodriguez came up with…as the ONLY thing that salvaged it for me somewhat, was the neat accompanying music that started up once Boba broke out of the sand. But a missed opportunity for this particular set-piece to have been something more special I reckon.

So just for fun, I played around with the opening of the show for a while to see how things would look and sound if it was re-arranged a little more to my liking…which just involves simplifying things even more when it comes to seeing Boba alive outside of the Sarlacc that he escaped from eventually - at some point after the barge exploded, he just DID…with the method UNSEEN this way, so that I can imagine whatever I wish… 😃

We begin with a certain short musical fanfare, as it fades out to the silence of familiar blue wording…

…then we CUT to the existing opening scenes…

…as we see a familiar figure inside a healing tank…

…then we CUT to a whole new ‘flashback’ here, as Boba recalls a desolate part of Tatooine…

…then we CUT back to Boba moving uncomfortably in his healing tank at this point…

…then we CUT to the rest of his ‘flashback’, where we hear heavy breathing from inside a familiar helmet, as the score kicks in at this point…

…then things continue normally as per the episode, as a Sandcrawler comes across Jabba’s barge wreckage at night, and the Jawas steal Boba’s armour, etc…

(by the way, re-instating the initial ‘flashback’ showing Slave I on the watery world of Kamino would work equally fine for me too, as a juxtaposition to then seeing a ‘flashback’ to the sands of Tatooine afterwards - seeing as we then got a shot of Slave I taking off from Kamino in the 2nd episode of the show)

And while I generally liked the majority of the music heard throughout both of these shows, especially the main and end themes…there were certain moments where I would have liked something a little less bombastic personally. And the scene where Boba is getting dressed in his costume finery by his droids was one such moment! We got an overly-dramatic piece of music throughout the scene, which made it faintly ridiculous I thought…which is a pity, as it would have been a neat moment if there had been a moodier, lower-key piece of music over it I reckon…or no music at all.

So here’s how my ideal re-edit of how that would look instead, which would give a much quieter reveal of his costume at this point -

We see Boba in his healing tank, and hear a female voice say Wake up Boba

…at this point Boba says The dreams are back to Fennec Shand, as he sighs and gets handed his black robe from the approaching droid…

…as Fennec turns to walk away saying Time to go, they’re lined up to pay respects…I’ll let them know you’re on your way, and we end on a close-up of Boba’s gnarly face, as the music fades away…

…then I’d CUT to this shot of Boba now on his throne, as we see him in his full armour again for the first time…

By the way, I reckon Temuera Morrison is doing great in the role so far, and his rugged face and accented line delivery are working very well for the character, just as it did for his ‘dad’.

One other thing about the opening episode of THE BOOK OF BOBA - as much as I love all of ‘Ray Harryhausen’ creature features, I wasn’t too keen on the look of the sand monster at the end. It seemed too on the nose as something the great man would have designed for one of his flicks, but not very ‘Star Warsy’-looking if you know what I mean. Just my own view on that. After looking at it again, I’d probably prefer to remove certain shots of it to make the sequence pass a little quicker, and lessen the amount of skirling that we hear the beast make.

Lastly, I thought Steph Green’s 2nd episode turned out wonderfully overall - I never realised that I needed so much Tusken grunting in my life, and they have been wonderfully portrayed so far. I laughed when a few of them immediately started to take the stolen swoop bikes apart when Boba offered the bikes to them - that was a genuinely funny ‘call back’ to the ones that were starting to dismantle Luke’s speeder in A NEW HOPE, I thought. And Unlike Robert Rodriguez’s 1st episode, this had a really kinetic, cinematic look to it’s set-pieces.

Safe to say that my much younger self would have absolutely lapped all this up if it had been around at the time, even though my current older self would like to tweaked certain things a tad. Roll on the next episode!

IMPORTANT NOTE - if anyone wishes to comment on any of this, please DD NOT re-‘quote’ the entire post, thanks!

CUT to Boba’s face, to begin scene of Jawas taking his helmet and armour -

OR A POSSIBLE ALTERNATE BEGINNING…WHERE THE SHOW WOULD START IN A MORE ‘LINEAR’ WAY WITHOUT SEEING BOBA HAVING ‘FLASHBACKS’ IN HIS BACTA TANK AT JABBA’S PALACE UNTIL MUCH LATER ON -

We begin with a certain short musical fanfare, as it fades out to the silence of familiar blue wording…

…then we CUT to twin suns, as we pan down to a familiar desolate part of Tatooine…

…then we CUT to hearing heavy breathing from inside a familiar helmet, as the music kicks in at this point…and we see an exhausted Boba collapse to the ground, as the music fades down…

…then things continue normally as per the episode, as a Sandcrawler comes across Jabba’s barge wreckage at night, and the Jawas steal Boba’s armour, etc…

…and then we continue as normal as the Tuskens come across him and take him back to their camp…and AT SOME POINT, i COULD THEN CUT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL OPENING SCENES OF JABBA’S PALACE, AND BOBA IN HIS BACTA TANK AS FENNEC WAKES HIM UP…

LATEST THOUGHT - IF I DO A SHORT STORY OF BOBA FETT, I MIGHT JUST END IT WITH BOBA AND FENNEC TAKING OVER JABBA;S PALACE - NOT SURE YET.

THIS IS HOW I’D LIKE TO ALTER THE BEGINNING OF ‘THE HOBBIT:AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY’ FOR MYSELF. NOTE - RATHER THAN DO A ‘BOOK CUT’ OF THE NOVEL, I’D PREFER TO DO A TWEAKED ‘JACKSON ADAPTION’ WHICH KEEPS THE LIKES OF THE VISUALLY-GREAT ‘PROLOGUE’ SEQUENCE AT THE BEGINNING. WHILE DOING AWAY WITH THE SILLINESS OF THE ‘TROLLS’ SEQUENCE -

…and continue on as normal until Bilbo opens his red book -

THEN CUT HERE JUST BEFORE WE HEAR BILBO’S VOICE SAY “I’M OLD NOW FRODO…”, AND JUST CUT DIRECTLY TO THE PORTION OF BILBO’S CLOSE-UP AS WE HEAR HIS VOICE SAYING “…I’M NOT THE HOBBIT I USED TO BE” (NOTE - I’m not 100% sure that I need to do this or not) -

…and continue on as normal as Bilbo eventually writes IT BEGAN LONG AGO -

…and continue on as normal as we see the ‘PROLOGUE’ of the dwarf miners and elf King visiting palace/Smaug’s attack/the elf King not helping/the dwarves having to leave their land, while Thorin ends up working as a blacksmith (NOTE - I’D INCLUDE SOME OF THE ELF KING FOOTAGE FROM THE EXTENDED VERSION TO SHOW THAT THERE HAD BEEN A FALLING OUT BETWEEN HIM AND THE DWARF KING), and we END on the close-up of Thorin hammering a sword he’s making, as we hear Bilbo’s voice say “…AND HE NEVER FORGAVE, AND HE NEVER FORGOT!” -

…then we CUT to this shot of the shire which pans upwards, as we then return to seeing Bilbo writing (NOTE - the THEATRICAL version already transitions to this shot via a brief fade to black in-between…but has Bilbo’s voice saying DIFFERENT words initially!) - STILL TO FINISH WRITING IF I’D PREFER THE EXTENDED OR THEATRICAL VOICEOVER HERE -

…and continue on as normal as we eventually see Bilbo write THERE LIVED A HOBBIT -

…and continue on as normal as we eventually see Frodo appear and head out to get the mail -

…and continue on as normal as Frodo gives the letters to Bilbo, and Bilbo tells him his book isn’t ready yet -

and we END on the shot where Bilbo says “…READING!” -

…and then CUT to Frodo saying to his uncle that people are beginning to think he’s odd and unsociable, as Bilbo then tells him to put a sign on the gate -

…and continue on as normal as we eventually hear Bilbo say something about Ghandalf not liking lateness, as we then see Bilbo sitting on a bench with a long pipe -

I MIGHT END UP DECIDING TO END MY ‘MEGA-CUT’ OF ‘THE LAST JEDI’/‘RISE OF SKYWALKER’ SOMETHING LIKE THIS, SO THAT WE JUST HEAR MUSIC (in a similar way to what I have in mind for my ending of ‘REVENGE OF THE SITH’) -

JUST A COUPLE OF THINGS TO THINK ABOUT - should I add the shot of the Falcon in hyperspace BEFORE the shot near the end of the Falcon going back to Tattooine?? Also, should I add the scene of Chewie playing the hologram chess game with Finn and Poe as well, or not?? - And would either work okay and soundwise??

ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE IDEA = AFTER WE SEE THE MONTAGE WHICH ENDS IN THE STARDESTROYER CRASHING DOWN TO TATTOOINE, MAYBE CUT TO ‘LIGHTSKIPPING’ SHOT OF FALCON IN HYPERSPACE, THEN MAYBE CUT TO CHEWIE, POE, AND FINN PLAYING CHESS SCENE, THEN MAYBE CUT TO RAY EXITING THE FALCON IN CLOSE-UP, THEN MAYBE CONTINUE AS NORMAL FROM THERE RIGHT UP UNTIL OLD WOMAN ASKS ‘WHO ARE YOU’, AND WE SEE RAY REPLYING “REY”, THEN MAYBE CUT TO FALCON FLYING OVER SANDCRAWLER AS JAWAS SAY “OOH TEENIE!”, THEN FADE TO CIRCULAR IRIS.

…then CUT to black to imply some time has passed, as we then see the Falcon in hyperspace -

PUT THIS INFO. IN BLUE BOX - would it result in a sudden cut to silence from the previous shot of the stardestroyer falling? Would I need to FADE to black instead if I do this?

…then CUT to the Falcon in hyperspace -

PUT THIS INFO. IN BLUE BOX - this Falcon in hyperspace shot is one that I didn’t use from earlier in the movie.

…and we continue as normal as Chewie plays holochess with Finn and Poe, as they all get up when an alert goes off, and Poe agrees that he’s cheating and switches off the table -

PUT THIS INFO. IN BLUE BOX - the reason I MIGHT add the above scene is to imply that Chewie, Finn, and Poe all accompanied Rey on her journey to Tattooine, and to add a little bit of levity near the end of my new ‘saga’ conclusion.

…and we continue on as normal, as Rey emerges from the Falcon -

NOTE - put more close-up pics of rey and bb8 leaving falcon here. This was the final shot below -

first wide shot of landed Falcon -

…and then we continue on as normal, as Rey looks over the edge -

…then CUT to this angle of Rey looking at her lightsaber -

PUT THIS INFO. IN A BLUE BOX - CUT the above shot immediately before we HEAR the noise that the old woman’s animal makes offscreen.

PUT THIS INFO. IN A BLUE BOX - I MIGHT decide to include the interior of the Falcon at this point, where Chewie growls as Finn and Poe accuse him of cheating at holo-chess - NOT 100% SURE YET.

…then CUT to my FINAL shot of the ‘saga’ as we see the Falcon flying over a sandcrawler and a group of Jawas say “OOH TEENIE!”

…as we fade out to a circular ‘iris’ and the END CREDITS appear (NOTE - I need to listen to the END CREDITS music of ‘The Last Jedi’ and ‘Rise Of Skywalker’, to see which I prefer to conclude my ‘saga’ on - so I may end up having J.J. ABRAMS here instead, if I prefer the end music of ‘Rise Of Skywalker’) -

PUT THIS INFO. IN A BLUE BOX - I MIGHT be able to briefly CUT to a silent RIAN JOHNSON credit first, THEN fade out to a circular ‘iris’ showing the J.J. ABRAMS credit immediately afterwards as the music kicks in.

*** Just a thought - would adding in an edited version of the broom boy ending work?? - perhaps in-between where stardestroyer is crashing towards Jakku sands…and the usual end scene where Falcon flies past a sandcrawler on Tattooine. ***

ADDITIONAL THOUGHT - AFTER STARDESTROYER FALLS ON JAKKU DESERT, SHOULD I JUST CONTINUE TO FADE TO REBELS LANDING AS NORMAL AS BB-8 AND CONEFACE MEET UP, AND THEN ALSO CONTINUE WITH R2 AND C3P0 WATCHING REY LAND X-WING TO BE GREETED BY BB-8…BEFORE I THEN CUT TO BLACK AND FALCON IN LIGHTSPEED BEFORE WE SEE CHEWIE, POE, AND FINN PLAYING HOLOCHESS?? - MIGHT WORK BETTER FOR PACING TOO??

AN EXTRA RANDOM THOUGHT! - I’ve decided that I ABSOLUTEY DESPISE the notion of the ‘horse’ attack on top of the Stardestroyers!!! - SO IS IT POSSIBLE TO SOMEHOW RE-EDIT THINGS TO HAVE ‘LANDO ARRIVING WITH HIS HUNDREDS OF REBEL SHIPS ARRIVING’ BE THE LAST APPEARANCE OF THE DOGFIGHT, THEN HAVE SOME KIND OF REY AND BEN AGAINST THE EMPEROR SCENES, CULMINATING WITH HIM BEING BLOWN AWAY, THEN WHEN REY EMERGES TO JOIN THE REST OF THE FLEET AFTERWARDS, WE ASSUME THAT THE FIRST ORDER SHIPS WERE BEATEN OFFSCREEN??? - check if this would work sometime. But I’d need to ALSO get rid of all of Finn and the girl’s antics blowing up the ‘main’ Stardestroyer and eventually jumping onto the Falcon etc., as we wouldn’t see how they got onto the Stardestroyer originally!

THIS IS A NICE LITTLE EDIT THAT WORKS WELL - when redoing Rey obliterating the Emperor in the way that I want, when we pan across to the ‘Sith’ statues…miss out the shot of Finn, and instead CUT DIRECTLY to the stardestroyer blowing up as Pryde runs in slow motion - this happens to be a great music match luckily.

  • KEEP THIS POST FREE, IN CASE I WANT TO ADD ANY MORE STAR WARS:RISE OF SKYWALKER IDEAS *

…I’ve since had some NEW IDEAS after all! -

MAINLY, the fact that I’m going to ACCEPT that I need to use the footage of Kylo being ‘redeemed’ enough to fight by Rey’s side against the Emperor…but will STILL kill him off by having the Emperor force throwing him down the chasm instead of trying to make Rey do it!! - this way I keep the integrity of the movie’s storyline involving the ‘Dyed’ in the force between Rey and Kylo, and make it much easier on myself to keep some great shots of their fight with the Emperor, and I liked the Emperor’s dialogue about the last Skywalker during that anyway - I just need to remove the CLOSE-UP of Rey and Kylo getting their lifeforce sucked out, as it looks silly, and the whole scene will come across more impactful. Rey just eventually comes round to tackle the Emperor herself, with NO revival for Kylo this time! - unfortunately, I’d need to include the Knights of Ren fighting Kylo to show Rey giving Kylo Luke’s lightsaber, albeit in a cut down version of the overall scene - shorten his fight and their communication moment, and don’t have him doing his ‘stance’ when he gets the lightsaber!

ALSO, I think I might just remove Rey’s training scene, and getting Luke’s lightsaber off Leia, as well as the scene where she gives Luke’s lightsaber back to her,and just have the FIRST scene of Rey showing her studying the diagram of the wayfinder in one of the Jedi books she took, as someone says the Falcon is back (it was away on the mission to contact a spy earlier on)…and then CUT to Poe telling everyone about the spy saying that Palpatine was back…then Rey runs to get the book (wearing Luke’s lightsaber that she had give back to Leia earlier!!!), and tells Leia she is going to find Exegol and the Emperor just as she would have done, as she fuels the Falcon and the gang say they are gong with her no matter what, as she smiles…and we CUT to the Falcon departing (I love this CUT) - which REMOVES Rey looking into the jungle as Poe comes up to her (unfortunately, this means missing out C3PO’S nice dialogue with R2 as his best friend, but I can live with that), Rose speaking to Finn, and Leia handing Luke’s lightsaber back and hugging crying Rey. All this helps to focus on the wayfinder much better, and helps to cut down the runtime a lot.

ALSO, I might not have Finn shouting REY during the duel, as it would distract her, and I might have her forcethrown him back in a different way as she senses him approaching, and once Rey flies off after reviving Kylo, we see Finn and the girl looking on as the Falcon approaches…then cut to the woman telling Poe, Finn, and Chewie that Leia is gone, as Chewie wails - getting rid of Maz and the rebels mourning over a shrouded Leia - it’s a bit stagey, and slows the movie down, and I’d rather imagine she faded away quite quickly seeing as she’s a forceghost at the end! - then I’m going to CUT to a short version of a revived Kylo contemplating things, as he throws his lightsaber into the sea, then turns to look at the Death start ruins, before his close-up then wipes to the Emperor speaking to general Pryde - this way I can get the start of the Emperor’s dialogue after all!

STILL not sure if I should have Rey using forcelightning to blow up the ship, as why didn’t she try lightning on the Emperor in the same way as Count Dooku did with Yoda in AOTC? And would Kylo be able to fight her off if she used it on him, when he goes to fight her? - But it’s a powerful scene overall, although I’d maybe get rid of her screaming CHEWIE, and just have her only whisper his name eventually instead, NOTE - should the forcelightning only be a dark power that the Emperor has? Should I only have Count Dooku dueling Yoda with lightsaber in my AOTC edit?

ALSO, try rearranging the scenes of HUX the spy shooting the troopers and the scenes of Kylo telling Rey she’s a Palpatine to see if it would work better overall. Do I use shot of HUX aiming gun and have some of the arguing dialogue, or just have the shot of dead stormtroopers, and HUX saying I’m the spy, and then Finn saying NO YOU DIDN’T when Poe says I KNEW IT?

…and continue as normal as we hear Leia saying …BE PATIENT, and Rey says I’M STARTING TO THINK IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO HEAR THE VOICES OF THE JEDI THAT CAME BEFORE…

…and continue as normal as we end on Leia saying NOTHING’S IMPOSSIBLE…

…then we CUT to the close-up of Luke’s mended lightsaber being handed to Rey, and end on Leia looking at her…

(OR…DO I MISS OUT LEIA GIVING LUKE’S LIGHTSABER TO LEIA, AND CUT FROM FLOATING REY DIRECTLY TO SCENE WHERE SHE SAYS “I DIDN’T FINISH THE TRAINING COURSE…” ???)

…then we CUT to Kylo touching Vader’s mask…

…and we end on this shot…

…then we CUT to Vader’s mask as we hear his voice say JOIN ME…

…then we CUT to Kylo opening his eyes as he sees flashbacks of him killing his father Han, then let’s go of the mask…

…then we CUT to Rey saying I DIDN’T FINISH THE TRAINING COURSE…I GOT DISTRACTED… (Note - I’m just laying out the EXACT sequence and dialogue here at the moment, without trying out any kind of re-edit at the moment - although IF I do use it, I MIGHT cut directly from Rey saying I KNOW IT LOOKS…to I THINK I’M JUST TIRED, THAT’S ALL…)
