Here you go, from ALIEN 20th anniversary DVD NTSC.

Thanks for that mysycamore.  Allowing for my comments about how screenshots can look depending on various pc monitior colour settings...your NTSC shots certainly seem to pretty much match the look of my PAL versions of those same examples.  (And are equally nicer-looking than how the new colour-timing which came afterwards looks, in my opinion)

THE MONSTER SQUAD  (released 1987/directed by Fred Dekker)

Theatrical Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyezSq-EA2Q

DVD Release Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIn4HQwsUfU

WRITE OUT ALL MY THOUGHTS ABOUT HOW REY’S ABILITY TO ‘FORCE-HEAL’ KYLO FROM DYING OF HIS LIGHTSABER STABBING COULD IMPLY THAT SHE IS ACTUALLY ‘THE CHOSEN ONE’ IN MY ‘MEGA-CUT’ OF ‘THE LAST JEDI’/‘RISE OF SKYWALKER’, DUE TO THIS ‘SUPER-POWER’ AND HOW GOOD SHE NATURALLY IS WITH THE FORCE…RATHER THAN ANAKIN AS BELIEVED BY QUI-GON AND OTHERS - HE’S ‘THE CHOSEN ONE’ FOR THOSE THAT PURELY WANT TO BELIEVE THE ‘GEORGE LUCAS SAGA’ AS TOLD BY THE PREQUELS STORYLINE, BUT WILL NOT BE FOR MY OWN EDITS WHERE I INCLUDE THE SEQUELS STORYLINE - FOR INSTANCE, I WON’T BE INCLUDING THE DIALOGUE BETWEEN SHMI AND QUI-GON WHERE THEY DISCUSS ANAKIN BEING AN ‘IMMACULATE CONCEPTION’/‘VIRGIN BIRTH’! - OUTLINE ALL THAT TO SHOW HOW I’D BE INCORPORATING HOW I’D PREFER TO LOOK ON THE FORCE AS THROWING UP REY AS THE ACTUAL ‘CHOSEN ONE’ TO EXPLAIN AWAY HER EXCESSIVE ABILITIES AS SHOWN BY THE SEQUEL TRILOGY, RATHER THAN ANAKIN - AND I WON’T BE INCLUDING HER SAYING THAT SHE’S “REY SKYWALKER” AT THE END OF ‘RISE OF SKYWALKER’ (MY ‘MEGA-EDIT’ WOULD ONLY BE USING ‘THE LAST JEDI’ TITLE AND SCROLL AT THE BEGINNING)

ANOTHER LATEST IDEA - do a shortened re-edit of Rey and Kylo’s fight amongst the waves, where Rey doesn’t end up looking so slow and exhausted as she ends up on the ground…and perhaps also there’s a better point where we see Leia calling “Ben” instead of after he’s raised his lightsaber to strike down Rey?

‘E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL’ IS ACTUALLY SET AROUND ‘HALLOWEEN’ RATHER THAN SUMMER, AND I’D LIKE TO INCLUDE A SHORTENED VERSION THE ‘HALLOWEEN CHAOS’ SCENE FROM THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY RELEASE FOR A SLIGHTLY MORE ‘HALLOWEEN’-CENTRIC VERSION FOR MYSELF -

ALTHOUGH I’D FAR PREFER TO STICK WITH THE ORIGINAL, MORE REALISTIC-LOOKING MECHANICAL E.T. FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE MOVIE, I’D LIKE TO KEEP THE LIKES OF THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY’S CGI JUMPING E.T. MOMENTS AS WELL AS THE CGI VERSION OF HIM FROM BEHIND, AS HE WATCHES THE SPACECRAFT LEAVING, AMONG OTHER WORTHWHILE ENHANCEMENTS TOO - Here’s a good comparison video of the original vs the 20th Anniversary release to study - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8ptI8Ba1h4

Also, the ‘movie-censorship’ site’s comparison screenshots are useful to look at too - https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=5229907 (NOTE - I don’t think I can ‘hotlink’ images from there unfortunately - but I think I may be able to download them to my laptop, and then re-upload them however)

HERE’S HOW I’D INCLUDE A SHORTENED VERSION OF THE ‘HALLOWEEN CHAOS’ SCENE, WHICH WOULD END WITH THE MUM ASKING HER 2 KIDS WHERE ELLIOT IS, AS GERTIE KEEPS SILENT -

…Elliot and E.T. are in the forest trying to make contact using a make-shift ‘radio’ contraption -

…as we see a close-up of the ‘spellcheck’ toy -

…and we continue on as normal, as Elliot’s mum leaves her house dressed in a halloween ‘cat’ costume, then gets into her car -

…and we continue on as normal, as Elliot’s mum drives away and several men get out of 2 parked cars with suitcases, and walk towards her house -

(PUT THIS INFO. IN A BLUE BOX - At this point in the movie, I’d like to include a little extra ‘Halloween’ flavour to it, by adding a SHORTENED portion of the ‘Halloween chaos’ scene shown in the ‘20th Anniversary’ CGI’d release)

…then CUT to close-up of pumpkin going up in flames, as we see Gertie and her eldest brother walking through halloween chaos in the suburbs, as their mum pulls up in her car beside them and asks “WHERE’S ELLIOT?”

(PUT THIS INFO. IN BLUE BOX - As seen in this ‘deleted scenes’ video between the 2 mins. 40 secs. mark and 3 mins. 11 secs. mark - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dsOl5rOnho )

…then CUT to the forest at night, as we see Elliot with E.T. both rubbing their chins -

ImperialFighter, I own the 20th anniversary NTSC DVD, tell me exactly which scenes you want me to take captures of besides that shot with "Brett-doorway-opening" and I'll post them for you.

Thanks msycamore, but I've now decided not to judge things by those DVDBeaver comparisons whatsoever, as I don't know if their old NTSC and PAL shots (and newer ones) were grabbed using the same identical equipment and settings or not.  Perhaps, but perhaps not.

I'd be interested if anyone happens to have both the old NTSC and PAL releases at hand that they can grab using the same equipment, though.  However, even if you just have the NTSC release msycamore, I'd also be interested to get an idea of how the same shots I posted here look in that format, especially the one of the Nostromo, and the close-up of Dallas's face, if you can.  Thanks. - http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Alien-Appendix-7-The-ALIEN-SAGA-Archive/post/425702/#TopicPost425702

If I do end up sourcing an NTSC copy, I'll be interested to see how it compares against my PAL copy on my tv/dvd player...as Chewtobacca has been in touch to say that he reckons there are indeed slight colour differences between regions for the same releases.  Not something I'd known about before.  (I'm guessing that the NTSC version would certainly suffer from a lot of 'pull-down' stuttering on my region-free player though, given the amount of 'slow panning' moves in the movie!)

Then there's the fact that everyone's pc monitors have very different colour settings anyway, which can vary greatly as I've found in the past.

Screengrabs are fine for a rough idea of differences, but can be very unrepresentative of how the colours of the dvd footage actually looks on your tv/dvd player.  All I know is that on my own home theatre set-up, the old 'Theatrical' ALIEN PAL release is very easy on the eyes, and the colours 'pop-out' in a vibrant, 'naturalistic' way, and reminds me of how I remember it looking on the big screen...whereas the new 'Theatrical' PAL colour-timing doesn't.

But what's done is done, and luckily for me, the original transfer quality itself still looks great on my big screen, enough for me not to miss the improved transfer that the 'Quadrilogy' and 'Anthology' undoubtedly have.  And so I won't be watching the new colour-timing again until the day the inevitable 3D blu-ray 'conversion' comes around...which I'll check out with interest!

Anyway, that DVNR issue, eh?

I didn't like the new look of certain scenes in the Directors Cut DVD either but the blu-ray seems very much improved to me, going by these new comparisons: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare2/alien.htm

Unfortunately it seems even more cropped than the DC DVD.

I've just realised that there's something else which may be relevant here, judging by those DVDBeaver shots...

Going by those, it seems that the earlier pre-'Quadrilogy' ALIEN NTSC and PAL dvds may have different colours to each other!  As I'm in the UK, my whole dvd collection has always been PAL versions, and I've only had to source the odd few NTSC versions where there was never a PAL release done.  It looks to me as if there is a difference between the 'region' release colours going by the screenshots shown in those examples...so  I may end up ordering the old NTSC 'Theatrical' release to compare them properly.

Another thing - I'd say that most of those particular screenshots are quite unrepresentative of what I'm talking about, and not the best examples, and can understand how some are unconvinced that there isn't much of a difference anyway...especially if they are looking at the old NTSC examples compared to the newer versions in those DVDBeaver shots!

I can assure everyone that my pre-'Quadrilogy' 'Theatrical' PAL version looks very warm and vibrant-looking throughout, with a more 'naturalistic' look to everything that I far prefer, compared to the later PAL 'Quadrilogy' branched version.

However, it turned out that the comparison link with a few examples from my original PAL 'Theatrical' version and my PAL 'Quadrilogy' branched 'Theatrical' version that I posted yesterday on page 6 wasn't typed properly.  So here's the proper link now.  (Of course, actually looking at the dvds on tv is a far more effective comparison than a handful of static screenshots can ever manage) -  http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Alien-Appendix-7-The-ALIEN-SAGA-Archive/post/425702/#TopicPost425702  (hairy_hen, you may be interested in my thoughts on Hicks and Newt further up that same page there, considering your own views on the sequels...)

It's very interesting that it now seems to be confirmed by dark_jedi's 'Anthology' blu-ray screenshots that the colouring of Brett's "Here Jonesy..." scene is far closer to the pre-'Quadrilogy' dvds once again, though.  dark_jedi, I'd really like to see a blu-ray shot of the 'slow zoom-in towards the narrow doorway opening' that Brett eventually enters into (you can see the doorway opening on the left-hand side of the first screenshot you showed on page 7), if you can manage sometime.  Ideally, if you have a copy of the pre-'Quadrilogy' 'Theatrical' release too (whether NTSC or PAL), then I'd like to see the same shot taken from that to compare.  I'll try and get the PAL version up sometime if not.

I'm personally pleased this particular scene has been restored to something approaching it's non-'golden'/'stylized' look, even if nothing else has, compared to the PAL version's look I prefer...and it's good to know that they've restored the original 'Theatrical' logo.

Lastly, I sure hope that the blu-ray's actual transfer hasn't been 'cropped' as those DVDBeaver examples seem to show!  Surely not...

So do you guys think the Blu release is correct or not

Personally, I'm holding off the blu-ray 'Anthology' set for now, as I'm only interested in the additional extras at this point, which is why I'm interested to hear from anyone that can confirm if it's ALIEN 'Theatrical' cut is just the same 'Director's Cut'-colouration as it was on the 'Quadrilogy' dvd set, or not.

I guess if it is (regardless of whether the Brett/Jonesy scene is different or not), then it's certainly 'correct' in Ridley's view now.  Which is fair enough, but then I didn't like the look of his colour-tampering for BLADE RUNNER:The Final Cut either, compared to how BLADE RUNNER originally looked!  And why I'm disappointed Cameron seems to have gone the same way with ALIENS now...

Anyway, here's just a few examples of some screenshots which give an idea of how dark and different some scenes look.  Although these can't give as good an idea as comparing the different dvds on a tv, they should give a rough idea overall.  The red in the 'chestburster' scene looks more pink than the previous blood-red dvd release for instance, and some scenes have a more 'washed-out' colour to them now too.  It varies...

What I am saying is that the way the DC is timed is actually accurate to the original cinematography. Except the Brett scene, and that's it as far as I know. I don't recall any other intentional/radical re-colouring. So the theatrical cut ought to be using the DC footage and not the previous transfers because the way the film should look is basically the way the DC looks, not necessarily the way it looked on TV and in video from the 1980s and 1990s.

Forgetting the previous tv, video, dvd releases for a moment, when I went to see ALIEN on the big screen back in '79 a couple of times, the colour pallette certainly didn't have the various 'darkened'/'stylized' hues that the 'Director's Cut' does, which I caught on the big screen too, on it's limited release.  I was very struck by how different it looked from how it seemed in it's earlier releases, and not in a good way.  I find it almost unwatchable compared to it's earlier releases, which I've been so used to seeing over the years, and will be disappointed if the blu-ray 'Theatrical' has been done in the same way as the 'Quadrilogy' 'Theatrical' was.

But either way, the look of the 'Director's Cut' has definately been altered a lot, compared to previous ALIEN releases which showed a more natural colouration throughout to the amazing sets, costumes, and miniatures.  In my estimation anyway.

It's my understanding that the DC branched version on the BR will use the new color timing for that scene, while the TC branched version will use the original color timing for that scene.  Can anyone who has the set confirm this?

See, this is what I thought I was asking in the first place, on the previous page.  ;)

The colour timing on the DC is pretty much the same as on the theatrical edition, Imperial Fighter. Its only the Brett scene that was significantly altered. Which is why they ought to have branched it.

Not sure if there's a misunderstanding here, but I'll try again -  the 'Theatrical' cut of ALIEN on the 'Quadrilogy' dvd set is identically colour-timed throughout to match the 'darkened'/'stylized' look of the newly colour-timed 'Director's Cut'...compared to the 'Theatrical' cut of ALIEN in it's previous releases.

Whether due to 'branching' or being deliberately done to match the new look of the 'Director's Cut or not, I don't know, but either way, this new colourization is very different to how the 'Theatrical' cut always used to look.

SLEEPY HOLLOW  (released 1999/directed by Tim Burton)

Teaser Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NI9gFHAqOBs

Theatrical Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfiALLlulYU

AND HERE ARE SOME POSSIBLE ALTERNATE WAYS TO INSERT THE ‘SPALKO WALKING PAST MURDERED LOCAL NATIVES’ SCENE INTO MY NEW ENDING, WHICH HELPS TO SHOW ‘EXACTLY WHY’ THE ALIEN WANTED TO KILL HER -

(I need to TEST EDIT these alternatives too, to see how well they flow visually and musically together, as I’m not sure which version I prefer yet!)

NOTE - DEPENDING ON WHICH VERSION I PREFER, THE WAY IT FITS INTO SCENES BEFORE AND AFTER WILL DIFFER, SO DON’T KNOW MY FINAL, COMPLETE ENDING SEQUENCES YET (THE ‘GIANT GEARS’ SHOT MIGHT EVEN BE PLACED ELSEWHERE, OR EVEN DISCARDED FOR ALL I KNOW AT THIS POINT)

OPTION 2 -

We see the END-PORTION of the fully-formed alien shot, as it looks down disapprovingly -

…then CUT to the shot of ‘Spalko walking past murdered natives to pick up a tracking device’ (giving the impression that the alien ‘KNOWS’ what she did to the natives) -

…then CUT to the alien leaning towards Spalko as she yells “ENOUGH!..ENOUGH!”

…and continue on as normal, as the annoyed alien frowns in close-up, and Spalko screams as her eyes burn up and she disintegrates upwards -

…and we continue on as normal, as Indy & co. enter a watery area with giant gears -

OPTION 3 -

We see the END-PORTION of the fully-formed alien shot, as it looks down disapprovingly -

…then CUT to the alien leaning towards Spalko as she yells “ENOUGH!..ENOUGH!”

…then CUT to the shot of ‘Spalko walking past murdered natives to pick up a tracking device’ (giving the impression that the alien ‘KNOWS’ what she did to the natives) -

…then CUT to the annoyed alien frowning in close-up, as Spalko screams as her eyes burn up and she disintegrates upwards -

…and we continue on as normal, as Indy & co. enter a watery area with giant gears -

OPTION 4 -

We see the END-PORTION of the fully-formed alien shot, as it looks down disapprovingly -

…then CUT to the shot of ‘Spalko walking past murdered natives to pick up a tracking device’ (giving the impression that the alien ‘KNOWS’ what she did to the natives) -

…then INSTEAD of cutting to the ‘alien leaning in towards Spalko’ shot at this point, we’d CUT to the annoyed alien frowning in close-up, as Spalko screams as her eyes burn up and she disintegrates upwards -

…and we continue on as normal, as Indy & co. enter a watery area with giant gears -

OPTION 5 -

We see the spinning crystal skeletons merging into a fully-formed alien, as Spalko says “NO MORE!” -

NOTE - AT THIS POINT THE CLOSE-UP OF SPALKO SAYING “COVER IT…COVER IT!” WOULD THEN NORMALLY APPEAR, BUT IT’S A SHOT I’M DISCARDING NO MATTER WHAT…AND THEN THE FULLY-FORMED ‘FROWNING ALIEN’ SHOT WOULD NORMALLY FOLLOW AFTERWARDS…AND THEN THE SHOT OF 'MAC LOSING GRIP OF INDY’S WHIP AS HE GETS SUCKED AWAY AND INDY & CO. RUN UP THE STEPS AS HE SHOUTS “GO!” WOULD NORMALLY FOLLOW AFTERWARDS…AND THEN THAT WOULD NORMALLY BE FOLLOWED BY THE ‘ALIEN LEANING IN TOWARDS SPALKO’ SHOT AS SHE SAYS “ENOUGH…ENOUGH!”, AS THE FROWNING ALIEN BURNS HER EYES AND DISINGTEGRATES HER UPWARDS.

UPDATE - NOT SURE if it’s possible to to actually rearrange any of these scenes or not. Have a look sometime.

The problem was that there was no branching for the original version of the scene in the theatrical cut, there was only the one version of the scene with the gold colouring regardless of whether you were watching the supposed original cut. I don't know why they just didn't put two versions of the scene, one with the original darker colouring to branch for the theatrical and then one with the golden hue version to branch for the DC.

zombie84, I'm not sure I get what you mean about giving an option for merely this one single scene alone.  Seems a little impractical, and it certainly wouldn't have gone far in improving things for me.

Just to clarify, I'm cheesed-off that the whole of the 'Theatrical' cut of ALIEN on the 'Quadrilogy' dvd boxset (and the individual 'Director's Cut' dvd release too) had the identical colour-timing of the tampered-with 'Director's Cut' throughout, compared to it's previous dvd releases.  I was hoping that this new tampered-with colouring wasn't going to be the new 'default' look for the 'Theatrical' cut from hereonin, but it seems it probably is, regardless of 'branching' issues.  Everyone's preferences aside though, what I find curious is the notion that this single scene alone may indeed have been restored to it's original colouration again for this blu-ray release, judging by Bill Hunt's comments...

TOTAL RECALL  (released 1990/directed by Paul Verhoeven)

Teaser Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3TXc5Befzo

Theatrical Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sASqfrgF-sI

**Coming Soon… ** Len Wiseman’s TOTAL RECALL is due for release in 2012.

IDEAS FOR A RECUT OF 'INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL -

The END scenes as they appear in their current order -

  1. …Mac makes his escape from the rotating room, as Indy notices and looks round (NO music, just sounds) -

  1. …as Mac enters into the treasure room, runs up the steps, then turns back to steal some treasure (NO music, just sounds) -

  1. …as the crystal skeletons continue to spin around in the room, and Indy and co. look around (NO music, just sounds) -

  1. …as Mutt says “What are they, spacemen?”, and Ox replies ‘inter-dimensional beings in point of fact’, and Indy says “Welcome back Ox!”, as we pan up to see the underside of a spacecraft -

  1. …as Marion says “What the hell is that?”, and Ox points up as he replies “A portal, a pathway to another dimension!”, and Indy says “Don’t think we want to go that way”, as he pushes Marion and Ox out of the spinning room, and he and Mutt get sucked out as Spalko’s goons get sucked upwards shrieking (NO music initially, but it starts just before Marion says “What the hell is that?”) -

  1. …as a close-up of Spalko says “I want to know…I want too know…tell me…I’m ready, I want to know!” (Music ‘chord changes’ here) -

  1. …as Indy and co. run up the steps in the treasure room, and he turns to shout “Mac…Mac…come on…Mac…Mac, dammit, now!”, as the room shakes violently and Mac falls to the ground, as Indy starts to reach for his whip (Music ‘chord changes’ here) -

  1. …as Spalko spins around in the middle of the crystal skeletons, as she says “I can see…I can see!” (Music ‘chord changes’ with lots of sounds) -

  1. …as Indy throws his whip towards Mac shouting “Grab it!” as room shakes, then shouts “Use your legs Mac, I can’t do it alone!”, as Mac shouts “Jonesy!”, then winks, then says “I’m going to be alright”, as he starts to float off the ground (Music ‘chord changes’ here) -

  1. …as the spinning crystal aliens merge into a single alien, as Spalko says “No more!”, and the alien fully forms -

  1. …as Spalko’s close-up says “Cover it…cover it!”, and the alien glowers menacingly -

  1. …as Mac rises higher and loses grip of the whip, and yells as he gets sucked away, as Indy and co. escape up the steps as Indy shouts “Go!” (Music ‘chord changes’ here)-

  1. …as the alien ‘leans in’ towards Spalko, and she shouts “Enough…enough!” as her eyes burn, and the alien glowers menacingly at her as she yells and burns upwards -

  1. …as Indy and co. enter a watery area, and he says “Go…go!”, then they run through giant water gears (NO music, just sounds) -

FINISH PICS MORE HERE

THIS MIGHT BE MY POTENTIAL NEW ORDER - CUT FROM SCENE 1. TO SCENE 3., THEN TO SCENE 2., THEN TO SCENE 4., THEN TO SCENE 5., THEN MIGHT DISCARD SCENE 6. (if pacing/sound allows) AND GO DIRECTLY TO SCENE 7., THEN DEFINITELY DISCARD SCENE 8. (Spalko ‘getting knowledge’ in middle of crystal skeletons) AND GO DIRECTLY TO SCENE 9. (Indy and co. running up steps, as he turns to get Mac) - THESE CUTS SO FAR ARE PRETTY MUCH SET IN STONE TO ME, BUT MIGHT THEN CUT TO SCENE 12., THEN TO SCENE 1O., AND FINISH THIS OFF (do I totally discard Indy and co. running into the stone ‘well’ which fills with water and deposits them out at the top of it? - as I’m already including ‘water gears’ scene, I could at some point just cut to them 'scrambling in the water, then looking down at the land below swirling around)

MY PROPOSED NEW RESTRUCTURED ENDING OF ‘INDIANA JONES 4’ FOR MYSELF -

…as Ox says “THROUGH EYES AT LAST I SAW IN TEARS…”, and Mutt finishes off his sentence saying “…A GOLDEN VISION REAPPEARS!” -

…and we continue on as normal, as Indy stares up at an unusual-shaped waterfall -

…as Mac says “GOLD…I’M IN”, and Mutt says “THROUGH EYES…THROUGH EYES IN TEARS, WE GOT TO GO THROUGH THAT WATERFALL!” -

(PUT THIS INFO. IN A BLUE BOX - I’d DISCARD the following shots of Indy taking the skull off Ox and saying that he’s been ‘told to take it back’, as Ox then is back seen carrying it when they enter the cavern hidden behind the waterfall, and Indy’s ears seem to really stick out in these shots!)

…and then CUT to a close-up of the ‘cliff-face waterfall’ -

…and we continue on as normal, as Indy & co. enter the cavern hidden behind the waterfall, and come across a cave painting, as Mutt finds a recently extinguished firetorch -

…and we continue on as normal, as Indy leads the way with the firetorch, and comes across more cave paintings of alien astronauts, as Ox presses onwards -

…and we continue on as normal, as Indy & co. venture further into the caverns, as a watchful eye looks on at them -

…and we continue as normal, as Indy & co. keep moving, and we slowly head towards the area behind them -

(PUT THIS INFO. IN A BLUE BOX - I’d DISCARD the shots of the natives breaking through the walls and ceilings, as although it seems quite a neat image, it’s utterly ridiculous to think they were actually waiting in there!)

…then CUT to Indy & co. stopping to turn around as they hear a ‘whirring’ sound, and we see several natives following them -

ADD MORE INFO HERE SOMETIME

…our heroes run down the side of a circular stone wall as the steps get shorter and shorter, until we end on a close-up of Ox’s feet slipping off -

PUT THIS INFO. IN BLUE BOX - At this point we see TWO shots of our heroes and the crystal skull falling into the water below. I’d remove this FIRST shot of them falling - https://i0.wp.com/img.screencaps.us/200/8-indiana-jones-crystal-skull/full/crystal-skull-movie-screencaps.com-11861.jpg?ssl=1 , as I only want to include the SECOND shot of them falling as it continues on in one continuous take afterwards -

…then CUT to the SECOND shot of our heroes falling into the water below -

…and then we continue on as normal until Indy lifts Marion out of the water and they hug and then look at each other as Mutt watches on -

(PUT THIS INFO. IN BLUE BOX - At this point Marion and Indy then lean in to try to kiss each other, but Mutt pops up in-between them to break them up. I MIGHT get rid of these shots - https://i0.wp.com/img.screencaps.us/200/8-indiana-jones-crystal-skull/full/crystal-skull-movie-screencaps.com-11909.jpg?ssl=1 and https://i0.wp.com/img.screencaps.us/200/8-indiana-jones-crystal-skull/full/crystal-skull-movie-screencaps.com-11910.jpg?ssl=1 , and just have them LOOKING AT EACH OTHER before Mutt gets in the middle of them saying “HOLD THIS!” to Indy. But I’ll keep it as it is if my proposed cut doesn’t flow well)

…then CUT to Mutt getting in-between them suddenly, as he hands Indy a skeleton and says “HOLD THIS” -

…and then we continue on as normal, as Indy leads the gang out of the watery cavern, and we end on this shot -

…and then we continue on as normal, as the group keep walking with a suspicious Mac at the rear, and we see a flashing tracking device on the ground -

…and we end on this shot -

(PUT THIS INFO. IN BLUE BOX - At this point we then hear gunfire and see Spalko walking amongst murdered natives, as she picks up a flashing tracking device - https://i0.wp.com/img.screencaps.us/200/8-indiana-jones-crystal-skull/full/crystal-skull-movie-screencaps.com-12034.jpg?ssl=1 ,but I’m going to use this shot LATER in the movie to explain WHY the alien kills Spalko!)

I MIGHT ADD EXTRA PICS HERE AT SOME POINT

…as we continue on as normal, as the group looks around and Indy speculates that the aliens are ‘collectors’ and ‘archeologists’, before he uses Ox’s crystal skull to open a big red doorway which leads to a circular room with several seated crystal skeletons…and Mac pulls a gun as Spalko appears with her armed goons, and takes Ox’s skull to attach it to it’s body…as it moves and everyone backs away, as Ox comes forward and talks in Mayan which Indy translates to Spalko…

ADD MORE INFO HERE SOMETIME

…then CUT to a shot of Spalko walking past murdered natives to pick up a tracking device (giving the impression that the skeleton is ‘reading her mind’) -

…and then CUT to a worried Spalko -

CHECK IF I DELETE SOME OF THE STUFF BELOW IN THIS POST, AS LONG AS IT’S THE SAME AS WHAT I’VE POSTED IN THE POST BELOW!

SPALKO AND ALIEN-

HERE’S HOW I’D LIKE TO ALTER THE ENDING TO GIVE A REASON WHY THE ALIEN KILLED SPALKO -

…and we end on this shot of the fully formed alien CHECK THIS IS THE EXACT WAY I WANT TO DO THIS! -

…then CUT to a shot of Spalko walking past murdered natives to pick up a tracking device (giving the impression that alien is ‘reading her mind’) -

SPALKO AND ALIEN-

WOULD THIS BE THE BEST PLACE TO PUT THE ‘SPALKO WITH MURDERED NATIVES’ SHOT AT THIS POINT?? OR WOULD IT WORK BETTER IF I PUT THE ‘SPALKO WITH MURDERED NATIVES’ SHOT IN-BETWEEN THE SHOT OF THE ‘FULLY FORMED’ ALIEN AND THE SHOT OF THE ALIEN LOOKING MEAN BELOW, CUTTING OUT THE SHOT ABOVE OF THE ALIEN LEANING TOWARDS SPALKO??

…and we end on this shot of the fully formed alien CHECK THIS IS THE EXACT WAY I WANT TO DO THIS! -

…then CUT to alien ‘leaning in’ towards Spalko -

…then CUT to a shot of Spalko walking past murdered natives to pick up a tracking device (giving the impression that alien is ‘reading her mind’) -

…then CUT to close-up of annoyed alien, as it brings retribution upon Spalko -

Seriously?  The Alien and Aliens color timing differences are nowhere near as dramatic as with Blade Runner, particularly the Final Cut.

I honestly don't get why color timing is such a huge issue to so many people.  Sure, when it's as obviously cocked up and inconsistent as the 2004 Star Wars DVDs, it IS a huge issue, but something like this isn't even remotely the same thing.

Yes, I'm serious...but I guess it's just down to personal preference at the end of the day.

I'm just not a fan of transfers being 'darkened' or given 'blue' or 'green' tints when their colours were not originally shown that way, and I've then been used to seeing a certain colour palette over numerous viewings.

I was lucky enough to see the particular movies mentioned on each of their original 'Theatrical' releases, and the various tv showings, video, and dvd releases were far closer to what I first saw, compared to how things have now been altered by their director's since then.

I'd have much preferred that ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER, and ALIENS (judging by the recent screeshots) still had the same naturalistic, vibrant look to them as before , instead of the new look they've been given.  Some of those ALIENS blu-ray screenshots certainly look dramatically different to me, I'd have to say, compared to the dvd version.  I know Cameron likes blue, but still...

Anyway, I'll be interested to hear if anyone can confirm that the Brett's "Here Jonesy..." scene on the 'Theatrical' ALIEN blu-ray is indeed nearer to it's pre-'Quadrilogy' dvd colouring, rather than it's 'Director's Cut' colouring on that boxset.  Thanks.

Jeebsus, after seeing these comparison shots of how dramatically the blu-ray version of ALIENS has been colour-tampered now, any DVNR quibbles are the least of my worries...

It's as dramatic a revision as was done to ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER, and others, and all for the worse as far as I'm concerned.  Some may like this new colouration of older movies, but these titles have now taken on the overly-stylised colouration that is evident in too many modern movies nowadays, for my tastes...and personally, this fad is spoiling many a release for me.

I had really looked forward to this whole high-definition re-release promise for many of my old favourites, but hadn't realised that they would all end up with such a drastic new 're-tint', compared to their previous versions...  That effect was fine for the likes of the MATRIX movies, but this is too much now!  :(

Anyway, as the 'Alien Appendix #7:The ALIEN SAGA Archive' thread on the 'Other Preservations and Fan Projects' forum still seems to be frozen up at Jonno's recent post, I'd just like to flag up this little anomaly here instead -  In his recent review of the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY blu-ray set, Bill Hunt reckons that the 'Theatrical' version of ALIEN has the original colour timing of Brett's "Here Jonesy..." scene -  http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviewshd/bdreviews102210.html

Eh?  What's going on?  Is it true that this particular scene's colour has been restored?  And if so, I sure wish the whole 'Theatrical' blu-ray release could been in it's original non-'Director's Cut' colouring...

I can't "see" some of the threads entirely
Time

Just to say that when I went to post something today on the 'Alien Appendix #7:The ALIEN SAGA Archive' thread that's featured in the 'Other Preservations and Fan Projects' forum...I can't, as the latest post by Jonno on it is not showing.  His avatar pic is showing okay, but not his actual message, nor the 'reply' options etc. that are normally seen below.  His post just seems to be cut off.

EDIT - thanks for fixing that Jay.
