ibleedspeed said:

well the whole bloody affair received its first full viewing tonight. and i am happy with it. however i will for sure increase the size of the subs to 18. they are legible at 16 but chainsawash was right as usual on that. 18 will in fact be better.

Well done on your efforts on this over the last month, and I'm certainly going to give your version a viewing some night, eventually.

Interesting that you're actually going up from font size 16 to size 18 now for your subtitles, as I recall you initially thought that even size 14 was too big...

I see you altered your 1st post on page 1 of this thread yesterday, which is a pity, as the description details info. that you originally posted here are gone now. Anyway, the first I knew about your intentions for this edit was in the post you made here - http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Kill-Bill-The-Whole-Bloody-Affair-QtheGaijin-Fan-Edit-COMPLETED/post/483530/#TopicPost483530 , which you posted under this interesting 'upcoming official release' link that Doctor M posted in the Kill Bill-The Whole Bloody Affair-QtheGaijin FanEdit *COMPLETED* thread - http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/archives/2011/02/25/quentin_tarantinos_kill_bill_the_whole_bloody_affair_to_finally_premiere_in/

...and as someone who really likes QtheGaijin's extended Kill Bill edit, I was interested to see what you'd come up with, and followed the various questions and answers along the way...

Well, it was certainly a 'rocky' read at times...with some (unintentional) 'lols' along the way...but I'm glad I continued through all your confusing ups-and-downs, as there were a few interesting snippets of technical info. to be found amongst the various threads you posted throughout. :)

You proved to be determined with this since you began about a month ago...so in addition to this thread, here's the complete order of appearance that your first(!) edit's frustrating saga took on in the 'How To's and Technical Discussions' section (where issues of womble/vegas/subtitles etc. were concerned), for future reference. I salute your perseverance, lol! -

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Well after revisited will be your official version yo wouldn't even remember that existed from the official canon;)

Or maybe not?

Indeed vaderios, ESB:Revisited's final tweaked AT-AT battle is bound to make up for any missing AT-ST shots, at the end of the day, as far as I'm concerned.

Hope to finally get around to those 'Dagobah' thoughts soon, by the way. :)

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

I was recently going to mention this particularly unfortunate ESB fact that I only discovered several days ago, but the thread was temporarily 'locked' due to shennanigans at the time, lol.

Anyway, all this recent talk of AT-ATs has reminded me to bring it up. While a lot of you will know about this I'm sure, it's something that I've never picked up on over the years personally. But I happened to be reading the current last page (48) of Jambe Davdar's 'Building Empire' edit thread, where this quote by Joe Johnston from 'Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays' was briefly mentioned -

"Well, the big thing that didn't end up in The Empire Strikes Back was the two-legged walker, but it did end up in Jedi. You get a brief glance of it in Empire, but there was a shot, a POV from one of the snowpeeders; the speeder is attacking the walker and passes right over it's head. Unfortunately at the very end, we were under a deadline and were literally up all night shooting this scene. Someone didn't tighten up the backing of the painted sky, and no one noticed it. The next day in the dailies, you could see the background slip, and it slipped about eight inches half-way through the shot...It just fell, which completely ruined the shot."

A little more on this can be read here - http://www.starwarz.com/tbone/index.php?categoryid=10&p2_articleid=392

So it seems that due to sheer bad luck (and the lack of CGI being around to salvage it, at the time), that we were denied seeing what sounds like a really neat intended shot...which would have managed to give the impression of the AT-ST being involved in the Hoth battle a bit more than we ended up with...

But due to the existing very brief, incongruous appearance of the current AT-ST in ESB, adywan has decided that he's going to remove it altogether, and focus on the AT-ATs alone in his edit. That's his own preference, but it's just a pity that this additional shot of the AT-ST being fired at through the viewpoint of the snowpeeder's cockpit didn't end up featuring in the original to begin with, if things had worked out. Personally, I'd have really liked to have seen the AT-ST vehicle being more involved in the Hoth battle with that shot , and it's certainly an out-take that would make a neat extra, if it were to be included on the Blu-ray set...although that's probably too much to hope for. Dammit!

Where did you get this quote from IF? I can't remember ever saying this or that i was adding a mechanism inside the AT-AT.

Heh, it turns out that you said it back on post 22813 on page 913...only it seems that I forgot something when I quoted it for Matticon, lol...

To Matticon and others - when I earlier quoted what adywan said on page 913 about including a 'mechanism' to give the replacement AT-AT the impression of 'stop-motion'...it seems I totally forgot what date he wrote that, and what photo he'd linked to in that post!

So just to clarify, only the first quote about him making the model to replace the ones seen through the snowpeeder cockpit applies. Apologies for any confusion. (Of course, I should have remembered that adywan would probably accept nothing less than actual 'stop-motion' to animate his AT-AT, if he'd been going down that route, lol.)

I had no idea that Ady was building an AT-AT model to film. What is he planning to reshoot?

Here's what he's planning with that, Matticon -

adywan said:

It's only going to be used to replace the badly composited AT-AT's & missing ones we see through the front of the speeder cockpit window.

adywan said:

It was a difficult build because the model kit had so many sections that were far from screen accurate, but i think i've got it accurate enough to hold up against the studio models. I've even added a form of mechanism into it so that it will give the impression that it is walking without having to resort to stop motion, which will be good enough for the fleeting moments this model will be seen.

It's really neat to know that even though the AT-AT model replacement is only going to be seen briefly, that the details will be accurate in these shots. Nice going on that once again adywan, and great preview pics!

As far as other elements being re-built Matticon, in addition to the ones you mentioned, I seem to recall that a replacement 'Shield Generator' and 'inside of Asteroid Slug's mouth' are also being done. And I also seem to recall that a 'Hoth rebel trench' is being planned too!

There's certainly plenty of neat stuff mounting up to be covered for the behind-the-scenes extras disc. :)

renamed post:vote for the best subs for kill bill twba.
Time

Just caught up with this again ibleedspeed. And just to muddy the waters, I gotta say, like Frink, I really liked the 'white' example you showed on the previous page...but also really like the look of the 'yellow' IB examples that Ash has shown above, too. What I'm not keen on is the 'Bookman' font example though. Personally, I prefer a simpler-looking font like 'Ariel' for this kind of thing.

Looks like you'll just have to do what suits you best personally, as there doesn't seem to be much concensus on this, lol.

sadly after ash solved where i was making a major mistake the subtitles do not fit in the letterbox. only 1 line of text would fit and there are 2 lines in a lot of the subs so it would only fit half in and out or all the way in the picture. the choice is obvious. though believe me if it were possible i would have put them in the letterbox. ash i wont really know if they are too small until i view this thing on a tv. but if they are it will be easy to fix so i am not worried about that now.

That's too bad. In that case, I agree that they would look better if made a little bigger for legibility against the moving background image. And I reckon Ash is also right that they'd look better if raised slightly higher from the edge of the letterbox like the example shot he posted. Good luck on this thing, as I see you've had one or two matters to solve along the way already.

Teaser Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEDFGzqMgpI

A little off topic, but does anyone know what music is being played over the trailer. I'd really like to know

Okay greenpenguino, you got me curious about that, so I went over to Soundtrack.net, as I find their trailer music info. is usually quite comprehensive there. (If you click on 'resources' at the top of their homepage, you'll then get a 'trailer music' option. Once you click on that, you'll then get an alphabet to choose whatever movie you're interested in)

Well, it turned out that their trailer music listing for 'Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope' shows it as being 'The Four Seasons: "Winter" by Antonio Vivaldi.

But I'm not sure if that's actually correct or not, however.

And here's the latest GREEN LANTERN trailer for now - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EIPny-Jcok

The font looks good ibleedspeed. :) Personally, I'm not usually keen on subtitles that aren't plain white, but yellow ones seem to suit this particular movie okay anyway. And gotta say that I'm with you on keeping the subs in the letterbox itself, as I reckon it's a shame to obscure any footage, which can be distracting behind them if not.

Don't let Adywan back!
Time

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph! (and I 'aint even religious), I've just checked in again to go into something ESB-related that's really cheesed me off...only to find that Ady's been ban-hammered...and his 'EMPIRE:R' thread has been locked...

And to think he always looks forward to today. :(

So let's see if I've got this straight -

adywan said:

Something to the effect of 'Here's a funny off-topic video everyone' (probably not giving it a second though in the slightest, considering it's his own thread)

Moth3r said:

Something to the effect of 'Watch it bud, that's against the rules' (probably thinking 'I better say something, as others have been pulled up about this')

adywan said:

Lots of unrepeatable, sweary words back (probably thinking 'Bloody hell, can't someone who *started* the bloody thread not be entitled to post an off-topic funny every now and then?')

Moth3r said:

Something to the effect of 'You and your thread are outta here bud!'

...then Frink brought this response -

TV's Frink said:

I call shenanigans on this, although I look forward to more adywan sock bannings.

He'll be back April 2nd.

Moth3r said:

(Sorry Frink, I realise the timing is unfortunate, but Ady will not be back tomorrow.)

...meaning that either someone is lairing around here again...or he could be back on the 3rd instead?...or?...

Poor doubleofive. I feel the conflict in him...

So I'll get back about that ESB issue over the next couple of days, when I decide what thread, or site, to stick it on instead...

Haha!

Anybody see the april fools joke over at TFN? They have a relatively convincing article about the blu-ray release of The Holiday Special. Very funny.

* This just in * - Dear Mister SpenceEdit, I can assure you and everyone else that I've ordered that nothing but the best possible third-generation VHS source be used to port this over to the new format. I know you'd expect nothing less from a company that has always strived to be at the forefront of technical excellence.

In the meantime, I'm off to see if my 'Prime Focus' 3D guys have managed anything as good as their work on CLASH OF THE TITANS yet. I'm very happy with the results I'm seeing on Episode 1. ...and they were the cheapest, of course.

Love Georgie.
