STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>

Well after revisited will be your official version yo wouldn't even remember that existed from the official canon;)

Or maybe not?

Indeed vaderios, ESB:Revisited's final tweaked AT-AT battle is bound to make up for any missing AT-ST shots, at the end of the day, as far as I'm concerned.

Hope to finally get around to those 'Dagobah' thoughts soon, by the way. :)

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

I was recently going to mention this particularly unfortunate ESB fact that I only discovered several days ago, but the thread was temporarily 'locked' due to shennanigans at the time, lol.

Anyway, all this recent talk of AT-ATs has reminded me to bring it up.  While a lot of you will know about this I'm sure, it's something that I've never picked up on over the years personally.  But I happened to be reading the current last page (48) of Jambe Davdar's 'Building Empire' edit thread, where this quote by Joe Johnston from 'Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays' was briefly mentioned -

"Well, the big thing that didn't end up in The Empire Strikes Back was the two-legged walker, but it did end up in Jedi.  You get a brief glance of it in Empire, but there was a shot, a POV from one of the snowpeeders; the speeder is attacking the walker and passes right over it's head.  Unfortunately at the very end, we were under a deadline and were literally up all night shooting this scene.  Someone didn't tighten up the backing of the painted sky, and no one noticed it.  The next day in the dailies, you could see the background slip, and it slipped about eight inches half-way through the shot...It just fell, which completely ruined the shot."

A little more on this can be read here - http://www.starwarz.com/tbone/index.php?categoryid=10&p2_articleid=392

So it seems that due to sheer bad luck (and the lack of CGI being around to salvage it, at the time), that we were denied seeing what sounds like a really neat intended shot...which would have managed to give the impression of the AT-ST being involved in the Hoth battle a bit more than we ended up with...

But due to the existing very brief, incongruous appearance of the current AT-ST in ESB, adywan has decided that he's going to remove it altogether, and focus on the AT-ATs alone in his edit.  That's his own preference, but it's just a pity that this additional shot of the AT-ST being fired at through the viewpoint of the snowpeeder's cockpit didn't end up featuring in the original to begin with, if things had worked out.  Personally, I'd have really liked to have seen the AT-ST vehicle being more involved in the Hoth battle with that shot , and it's certainly an out-take that would make a neat extra, if it were to be included on the Blu-ray set...although that's probably too much to hope for.  Dammit!

Where did you get this quote from IF? I can't remember ever saying this or that  i was adding a mechanism inside the AT-AT.

Heh, it turns out that you said it back on post 22813 on page 913...only it seems that I forgot something when I quoted it for Matticon, lol...

To Matticon and others - when I earlier quoted what adywan said on page 913 about including a 'mechanism' to give the replacement AT-AT the impression of 'stop-motion'...it seems I totally forgot what date he wrote that, and what photo he'd linked to in that post!

So just to clarify, only the first quote about him making the model to replace the ones seen through the snowpeeder cockpit applies.  Apologies for any confusion.  (Of course, I should have remembered that adywan would probably accept nothing less than actual 'stop-motion' to animate his AT-AT, if he'd been going down that route, lol.)

I had no idea that Ady was building an AT-AT model to film. What is he planning to reshoot?

Here's what he's planning with that, Matticon -

adywan said:

It's only going to be used to replace the badly composited AT-AT's & missing ones we see through the front of the speeder cockpit window.

adywan said:

It was a difficult build because the model kit had so many sections that were far from screen accurate, but i think i've got it accurate enough to hold up against the studio models. I've even added a form of mechanism into it so that it will give the impression that it is walking without having to resort to stop motion, which will be good enough for the fleeting moments this model will be seen.

It's really neat to know that even though the AT-AT model replacement is only going to be seen briefly, that the details will be accurate in these shots.  Nice going on that once again adywan, and great preview pics!

As far as other elements being re-built Matticon, in addition to the ones you mentioned, I seem to recall that a replacement 'Shield Generator' and 'inside of Asteroid Slug's mouth' are also being done.  And I also seem to recall that a 'Hoth rebel trench' is being planned too!

There's certainly plenty of neat stuff mounting up to be covered for the behind-the-scenes extras disc. :)

Just caught up with this again ibleedspeed.  And just to muddy the waters, I gotta say, like Frink, I really liked the 'white' example you showed on the previous page...but also really like the look of the 'yellow' IB examples that Ash has shown above, too.  What I'm not keen on is the 'Bookman' font example though.  Personally, I prefer a simpler-looking font like 'Ariel' for this kind of thing.

Looks like you'll just have to do what suits you best personally, as there doesn't seem to be much concensus on this, lol.

sadly after ash solved where i was making a major mistake the subtitles do not fit in the letterbox. only 1 line of text would fit and there are 2 lines in a lot of the subs so it would only fit half in and out or all the way in the picture. the choice is obvious. though believe me if it were possible i would have put them in the letterbox. ash i wont really know if they are too small until  i view this thing on a tv. but if they are it will be easy to fix so i am not worried about that now.

That's too bad.  In that case, I agree that they would look better if made a little bigger for legibility against the moving background image.  And I reckon Ash is also right that they'd look better if raised slightly higher from the edge of the letterbox like the example shot he posted.  Good luck on this thing, as I see you've had one or two matters to solve along the way already.

A little off topic, but does anyone know what music is being played over the trailer. I'd really like to know

Okay greenpenguino, you got me curious about that, so I went over to Soundtrack.net, as I find their trailer music info. is usually quite comprehensive there.  (If you click on 'resources' at the top of their homepage, you'll then get a 'trailer music' option.  Once you click on that, you'll then get an alphabet to choose whatever movie you're interested in)

Well, it turned out that their trailer music listing for 'Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope' shows it as being 'The Four Seasons: "Winter" by Antonio Vivaldi.

But I'm not sure if that's actually correct or not, however.

And here's the latest GREEN LANTERN trailer for now - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EIPny-Jcok

The font looks good ibleedspeed. :)  Personally, I'm not usually keen on subtitles that aren't plain white, but yellow ones seem to suit this particular movie okay anyway.  And gotta say that I'm with you on keeping the subs in the letterbox itself, as I reckon it's a shame to obscure any footage, which can be distracting behind them if not.

Don't let Adywan back!
Time

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph! (and I 'aint even religious), I've just checked in again to go into something ESB-related that's really cheesed me off...only to find that Ady's been ban-hammered...and his 'EMPIRE:R' thread has been locked...

And to think he always looks forward to today. :(

So let's see if I've got this straight -

adywan said:

Something to the effect of 'Here's a funny off-topic video everyone' (probably not giving it a second though in the slightest, considering it's his own thread)

Moth3r said:

Something to the effect of 'Watch it bud, that's against the rules' (probably thinking 'I better say something, as others have been pulled up about this')

adywan said:

Lots of unrepeatable, sweary words back (probably thinking 'Bloody hell, can't someone who *started* the bloody thread not be entitled to post an off-topic funny every now and then?')

Moth3r said:

Something to the effect of 'You and your thread are outta here bud!'

...then Frink brought this response -

 TV's Frink said:

I call shenanigans on this, although I look forward to more adywan sock bannings.

He'll be back April 2nd.

Moth3r said:

(Sorry Frink, I realise the timing is unfortunate, but Ady will not be back tomorrow.)

...meaning that either someone is lairing around here again...or he could be back on the 3rd instead?...or?...

Poor doubleofive.  I feel the conflict in him...

So I'll get back about that ESB issue over the next couple of days, when I decide what thread, or site, to stick it on instead...

SpenceEdit said:

Haha!

Anybody see the april fools joke over at TFN? They have a relatively convincing article about the blu-ray release of The Holiday Special. Very funny.

* This just in * -  Dear Mister SpenceEdit, I can assure you and everyone else that I've ordered that nothing but the best possible third-generation VHS source be used to port this over to the new format.  I know you'd expect nothing less from a company that has always strived to be at the forefront of technical excellence.

In the meantime, I'm off to see if my 'Prime Focus' 3D guys have managed anything as good as their work on CLASH OF THE TITANS yet.  I'm very happy with the results I'm seeing on Episode 1.  ...and they were the cheapest, of course.

Love Georgie.

(By the way, I've just come across something to do with ESB in another thread that I wasn't aware of before, that I'll go into later today when I've more time)

I found mine through fanedit.org (RS links) and burned with ImgBurn and it looks terrible...might I ask where you found yours?

Annoyingly, I can't for the life of me remember.

Darth Solo was good enough to pass on a 'compressed' copy to me initially (in May 2008 it turns out), but then a friend of mine searched around and found the dual-layer somewhere or other (possibly Demonoid or Linktalk)...but I just can't remember properly.  I'll ask him, but as it was that long ago, I'll be surprised if he remembers either.  All I know for sure, was that it wasn't from Fanedit.org, not that that's much help.

But I'm curious to know how bad the version over there is, so may check it out at some point soon.

By the way ibleedspeed, the more I look at your original 'the whole bloody affair' wording, the more I'd like to see that done in RED for contrast next to the white 'Kill Bill'.  Same for whatever font you end up going with for this, but that's just me, lol.

Okay, I just came across this interesting article about KILL BILL:THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR over at Aintitcoolnews today, which was posted just a couple of days ago, it seems.  If any of you are curious enough to bear it, it's worth clicking on the '+ Expand All' option beside the 'READERS TALKBACK' underneath the article, to find some interesting comments and thoughts on it amongst the usual nonsense -  http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/node/49042

Something that I hadn't reckoned on though, till it was mentioned by someone there...is the possibility that the eventual Blu-ray release might end up being spread over 2 discs...just like the damned upcoming 'Extended' versions of the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy is going to be!  Never mind an 'intermission', it might as well be an old 'flipper' disc, if that's the case, as far as I'm concerned.  (and yes, I really can't stand the unnecessary one that continues to split 2001:A SPACE ODYSSEY either...but at least I can skip that)

And just for some additional info. for those that have never seen the Japanese version, here's a couple of comparison links below -

Info. details about different region cuts -

More info. and screenshot comparisons - Note: those of a sensitive nature should stay clear of this next one... :)

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

Just wanted to show what the official site's announcement of this looks like -  http://starwars.com/movies/saga/prime_focus_star_wars_3d/index.html

Out of the various 'conversion' companies out there, I gotta say that the one responsible for the 'CLASH OF THE TITANS' mess (not mentioned, funnily enough) would not have been my first choice...

And GL's claim that "I'm very happy with the results I've been seeing on Episode I" doesn't automatically fill me with confidence about their involvement.

It's not clear just how much input they had in some of the other titles mentioned, but I just hope that 'Prime Focus' have got their act together for the saga's release.  And here's their site announcement -  http://www.primefocusworld.com

I just wish every time I come to Ady's thread people were being wonderful to each other. Some of you guys could take a page out of Imp Fighter's book. He's always the nicest and most respectful guy here.

*blushes*  Well thanks for the vote of confidence Stewie, but I can't be having you impuning my bad name like that...'cos believe me, although I may be a fan of Star Wars, I don't necessarily like all Star Wars fans! ;)

But seriously, I'm sure there'll always be a little 'discourse' around here every now and then to do with certain things (no matter how trivial) to do with these 'Revisited' edits.  I guess that's only natural, given the sky-high hopes for adywan's possible 'creative choices' on these, amongst those interested.

There's plenty around here that have differing opinions on certain aspects, and that's to be expected...but the over-riding fact is that these edits are primarily meant for adywan's *own* satisfaction at the end of the day, although everyone else is welcome to share a look a his unique preferences too, if we want to.  For free.

Strongly-held individual ideas on what could or shouldn't be done on these particular edits have sometimes thrown up stuff of interest for everyone to consider, along the way...but hopefully, most of us on the sidelines will try to disagree on certain things in a way that doesn't piss off adywan and others too much in the process. :)

(by the way, that was the best-looking 'R2D2' I've ever seen Stewie)

Loconut said:

I like most of the 16-min sneak peek changes, but I just know I've missed a few. Does anybody have the intention of creating one of those delightful picture comparison sets?

If someone ends up doing that at this point Loconut, then great, but it's a lot of work, as there's so much packed into just those 16 mins. alone!  At some point though, I'm hoping there'll be a comprehensive shot comparison done of the changes, after the edit is fully completed...similar to the one done for 'ANH:R'.  (click on my 'signature' link for further details)

In the meantime, here's a list of the differences that I know of in that clip, for you to see if there's any you weren't aware of -

Probe Droids dispatched have enhanced rocket glows / starfield rotates as single Probe Droid recedes away / starfield and Hoth planet rotate as Probe Droid approaches, and 'atmosphere haze' is uniform around planet / Probe Droid has enhanced fiery trail as it enters atmosphere and crashes / crater added (with no flames) as Probe Droid flies off / 2nd shot of Probe Droid crashing is 'flipped' into reverse to match previous shot of it crashing / Luke's macrobinoculars display is enhanced to match later rebel trooper's one / enhanced backdrop as Han's Taun-Taun runs in distance Luke's Taun-Taun blinks / 'filming boom' reflection in Luke's goggles removed / horns added to Wampa (but this is just a temporary version, anyway) / close-up of Wampa's arm swipe is 'flipped' upside-down, with 'thumb'-claw at top, so it doesn't look like a 'backwards'-swipe anymore / bit of puppeteer's arm showing in Wampa's arm as it grabs Taun-Taun, removed / as Han's Taun-Taun enters base -  exterior of ice cave and groundsnow enhanced...shape of cave opening altered...interior of cave angled to show more detail inside, and enhanced doorway added...equipment box and cabling beside gunturret, and extra rebel trooper activity added too / inconsistent X-wing engines showing as Han dismounts, removed / Millennium Falcon's guns lowered behind Chewbacca welding bit of actor's neck showing through C3PO's mask before Han covers his mouth, removed / Luke's legs closer together as he hangs, to match close-up of trapped feet / lightsaber more consistently embedded in the snow / lightsaber glow enhanced / Millennium Falcon moved further back in the rebel base as R2D2 monitors for Luke and Han at the entrance / rebel base doorway just moves once to shut / 'Force'-glow added to Luke's vision of Ben / close-up of Han about to cut Taun-Taun with lightsaber 'flipped' into reverse / lightsaber glow enhanced / close-up of lightsaber cutting Taun-Taun's belly 'flipped' into reverse, and flames removed from cut straps / enhanced display controls in Snowspeeder cockpit / transparent Snowspeeder made solid / enhanced clouds in sky backdrop behind Snowspeeder / an additional Snowspeeder flies into rebel base at end of mission / and although not seen in the clip, it's also now been confirmed that the 'bacta tank' will be coloured a little redder when Luke is inside it.

Bingowings said:

I really find it difficult to actually suggest anything new when I see a fresh clip or if something pops into my head at this point because it is so close to being complete.

Anything I suggest could only serve to annoy or (in the unlikely case of my suggesting something Ady hadn't already considered and he liked) set back the completion of the thing by prompting further adjustments.

Well it's certainly closer Bingo, but since it's tentatively scheduled for the end of this year, or so, there's still quite a ways to go yet.  I'm always keen to hear anything someone's got in mind concerning further ideas to do with 'EMPIRE:R'.  And judging by this previous mission statement of his, I'm sure that adywan would still encourage any additional thoughts from anyone here that have any, including yourself, until the point he says otherwise -

adywan said:

But i don't care how long this takes me to do.  If an idea comes up that i think would benefit the edit then i will try to do it, even if it delays the release by an extra year or so.  The last thing i want to do is rush the edit just to get it out there and look back thinking "god i really wish i had done that" and not be happy with the finished product.

...of course, this was from way back on page 479 in mid 2009 (!), so things may have changed since then. ;)
