STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

HAPPY BIRTHDAY adywan!

and congrats on the 'Granda' announcement.

Also just wanted to say that the consistent opening 'crawl' development is going to be a neat improvement overall, too. And as others have mentioned, one of the really annoying backward steps with the 2004 ANH release was the faster receding 'main title'. What were they thinking? It was so great to see it at it's more impactful slower pace in ANH:R.

I'm of the opinion that they didn't fire randomly, but hid the black cannon tip when it wasn't in use so the Empire didn't know exactly where to shoot to blow it up.

I agree, those stardestroyer captains may indeed have had good eyesight if they already didn't know where the cannon was. ;)

it isn't recoiling. The gun is coming out from inside the ball and the ball is moving into place. In the firing shot earlier in the movie you can see that the gun comes from inside the ball before it takes it's first shot. Like i said all this is clear when you see the whole sequence

Ah, at the time, I wondered why the ION Cannon's gun seemed to be 'missing' from this particular top shot that you released a while back adywan, but just thought that you were still working on that.

So going by your latest comments, it sounds like the gun is only *about to* emerge at this point, compared to where it is in your screenshot underneath -

Okay, I can see how Monroville thought that your latest trailer was partially revealing a 'recoil', like it does earlier in the movie, but this trailer snippet actually shows the gun 'emerging' upwards at this point it seems, as far as I can see...so I have a slightly different question about it in that case - since the ION Cannon has already fully emerged to fire earlier in the movie when we first see it at the start of the battle...why would the rebels retract it inside the ball again, by the point we cut back to it in the scene above? I'd always imagined the gun to be continuing to fire every now and then (unseen onscreen as various other transports continued to evacuate up to this point), even if the ball was rotated.

But even if it's thought of as needing to 'power-up' every now and then between blasts, I'm just wondering if the gun itself would really need to 'retract' and 're-emerge' in and out of the ball every time, or every time the ball may be required to rotate it's direction even?

If a totally 'retracting' and 're-emerging' gun effect every time between bursts is how you intend it to work in your version, that's fine...it's just that until your comments about it today, I originally expected to see the gun still fully out when we returned to it in your new scene here, once it had emerged out in the first place earlier in the movie. Either way though, it's awesome that you've placed it into this scene in the first place, as I always loved the design of it. :)

opinions on film restoration/preservation and how it applies to Star Wars - what do you think should/should not be allowed?
Time

Okay, purely for the sake of wishful thinking, here's my own take on what I'd ideally like to see for these movies in the future. After the frustrating 'altered' treatment of the 'Original Trilogy' for their 'Theatrical' SE re-release, DVD release, and upcoming BLU-RAY release...there's only one way now that GL could finally rectify things for me personally now, as far as any possible future BLU-RAY release of the OT goes, from where things currently stand -

1. My *main* wish - a release of the unaltered versions (meaning original editing, and warts-and-all effects) of each of the OT, but cleaned-up of dirt and scratches to a high standard where the prints are concerned . Something that approaches a reasonable and respectful 'representation'/'restoration' of what was initially seen on their blockbusting, award-winning 'Theatrical' releases, that's done to a high quality that today's BLU-RAY format demands.

2. My *secondary* wish - on top of the above, also release equally high-quality cleaned-up versions of each of the OT (with original editing), but with re-comped , spruced-up versions of the original effects, where matte lines etc. are concerned...but without excessive additions, or alterations. This is the route I'd wished GL's proposed 'Special Editions' had gone down originally, by the way.

3. My *anything goes Special Edition* wish - If GL ended up wanting to do *even more* 'altered' versions of his current 'Special Edition' cuts in future, but with flying Rontos and tinted purple, then that would be fine with me (although I reckon he'd be better subtracting certain additions, rather than just adding to them, of course)...SO LONG as he finally organises high quality releases more faithful to how the movies originally looked TOO, as I mentioned in my 1st wish above! ;)

I may not care for some of his current 'creative choices', but if a high quality release of how the OT originally looked became available too, then it wouldn't particularly bother me if he ended up adding even more crap I don't like, to any further BLU-RAY release...although I'd still wish that anyone new to the franchise would get to see the way it was to begin with, first.

Good thing then that adywan's ongoing 'Revisited' efforts are already giving me the kind of 'Special Edition' cuts/'alterations' that I could only wish for a long, long time ago...

Both are CG shots.

Yes indeed corellian77, things are going to a whole new level for certain shots in this particular 'special edition'. And the quality of all the new 'Revisited' CG shots I've seen so far, look awesome in motion.

Just about anything is possible on any of these particular edits now... :)

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Hmmm, there seems to be a helluva lot of 'blue' used on that OT cover...

Is that a clue to the transfers?

And please tell me that 'outer' boxart is just a *fake* mock-up... That's just plain awful as far as I'm concerned, if real. Thanks to those who took the time to post the details by the way, as I wouldn't have known at this point if I'd had to rely on the actual 'countdown' site just now. After all that, what a farce, lol.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition coming to Blu-Ray

Films this length can certainly fit on a BD-50. Studios can't win really. If they put the films on one disc, some people complain about the bitrate, and if they split them onto separate discs, some people complain about having to change the discs.

Hmmm. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that the bastards are planning on yet ANOTHER double dip of these one day...on a single disc each...before they progress onto the eventual 'converted' 3D Blu-rays eventually. Which will probably be split in two too... ;)

Harmy said:

And the films being split over two discs is actually great, it means the highest quality possible and switching discs doesn't bother me, as I like to make a cigarette break half way through a really long movie like this anyway ;-)

Now see...this is where I have to differ, lol. This is yet another reason why I'm disappointed with this whole Blu-ray format.

On top of too many high def transfers not looking as nice as their DVD predecessors due to overly-processed DVNR and altered re-colouration, I now find that certain movies won't even be on a single disc this time around!

I prefer each of the 'extended' LOTR cuts, and was really looking forward to having the option of an uninterrupted viewing of each one if I wished to (bladder allowing), thanks to this format. Or so I thought at the time...

Sure these movies are long, but I'd hoped that Blu-rays would now give everyone the option of just 'pausing' them at any point, if they decided to take a 'toilet break' or whatever...seeing as they'd be on ONE disc.

I took it for granted that Blu-rays would be able to handle lengthy movies without splitting them, so I'm sorry to see that this latest format still doesn't seem to be able to handle high quality presentation without splitting these movies apart with a break in-between. So like the original DVD versions of these longer versions, the upcoming Blu-rays of these are effictively going to be the equivelent of the old hated 'flipper' discs as far as I'm concerned...with an 'enforced intermission' half-way through...and I might as well stick to my DVD versions and save myself a few quid.

...and I don't even smoke anymore! :(

The Big ESB Reveal

Anchorhead said:

If I had to venture an opinion, I'd say viewing order doesn't really matter as long as the films are viewed in two sets of three. Preferably with some time to ponder between the two, maybe a week or two.

The trilogies look and feel completely different. They were created differently (live action vs CGI, film vs digital), have completely different visual styles, different story lines, different actors, take place in different time periods, etc.

For various reasons, I'd hope for any new viewers to start with episodes 4, 5, and 6 to begin with, if seperating out each trilogy into two distinct entities. The main one being because I'd rather someone first watched what I reckon would give them a far more satisfying introduction to the STAR WARS franchise, considering I feel the prequel trilogy is inferior. And that's how I ensured my own brats saw 'em for the first time too. :)

But sadly, I doubt this will happen with the majority of anyone new to the saga in the future, since the actual 'numbering' of each movie will discourage that...and because the forthcoming 3D theatrical re-release schedule is only going to reinforce the 1-2-3-4-5-6 'chapter' issue too.

As you say, the trilogies look and feel completely different in many ways, and therefore don't sit very well as a continuous whole. Personally, I don't mind that too much, considering they ended up being made so far apart with different designers and sensibilities at the time....and if the prequel trilogy had turned out more successfully in the first place, I wouldn't have a problem with this 'revised' viewing order whatsoever. But they didn't...(although you've missed out on some great soundtrack music by Williams at the very least Anchorhead)...and that's why I dislike the idea of the prequels taking 'precedence' to 'officially' begin the overall saga now, where the 'numbers' are concerned.

So looking on this franchise as two distinct trilogies, I'd always prefer the original 4-5-6-1-2-3 'theatrical' release order for new viewers, ideally...and therefore the currently 'numbered' 1-2-3-4-5-6 sequence doesn't appeal to me for a 'whole saga' marathon viewing order for newbies. Or myself either, where the prequels are concerned. However, for the reasons I mentioned on the previous page, cap's proposed 4-5-1-2-3-6 viewing order at least incorporates the prequels in a way that I can dislike less.

TV's Frink said:

Whenever we have these "which order to watch" discussions I have to throw out the 4-5-1-2-3-6 idea.

*throw*

As far as incorporating the existing 'official' prequels into a complete whole viewing order of the six 'STAR WARS' movies, this is a notion that I've grown to REALLY like since it was first brought up a while back. So if I *had* to choose a complete saga viewing order for myself or anyone new to it all...then I'd definately favour the 4-5-1-2-3-6 scenario, personally.

What I like about it most is not just the way that this particular order manages to preserve the various main 'reveals' intact along the way...but that it also importantly retains a more dramatic structure overall that I far prefer...because it allows for the more powerful opening scroll and intro. visuals of 'A New Hope' to initially start everything off once again, which defines the impactful way that the 'STAR WARS' saga used to begin 'mid-action'...and alway should, as far as I'm concerned.

So rather than having to start the saga off on a far less satisfying note with a trilogy of disappointing movies that only retroactively became the new 'official' beginning...things can now hit the ground running for me with my two favourite episodes kicking the whole thing off instead, as they originally did.

And using this alternative order, I find that I can be slightly more tolerant of the underwhelming 'backstory' episodes now, even if unedited in their current versions...knowing that if they are slotted into sequence like this, then at least they won't give certain things away, before we come to them. In fact, I rather like a lot of the 'Anakin becomes Vader' imagery that's seen in 'Revenge of the Sith', when it's integrated into the context of this re-ordered 4-5-1-2-3-6 sequence. Although not the ridiculous "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" yell, obviously...

Speaking for myself, I would find it difficult to encourage anyone new to the 'STAR WARS' saga to progress through the movies in their current 'official' order of chapter numbering. My previous preference would have been for them to at least watch the two trilogies in their theatrical release order of 4-5-6-1-2-3...so that the prequels wouldn't dilute the effect of seeing what occurred in the Original Trilogy.

But I now reckon that the 4-5-1-2-3-6 sequence is an even better option if I had to watch the entire saga in future...since this would allow things to eventually conclude with the satisfyingly upbeat finale that the 'Return of the Jedi' movie offers, overall. :)

...which is why in an ideal world for me, NONE of the movies would be restrictively numbered... They would just go by their individual titles, so that they wouldn't seem to be out of their 'official' order, if anyone wanted to watch them in a different sequence to GL's retroactive order.

Anyway, where the prequels are concerned, I'm grateful for, and fully in agreement with the various relevant points that cap highlighted on this page - Here

RIP Elisabeth Sladen, 63
Time

Like a lot of Doc Who fans, I was very saddened to hear of Elisabeth Sladen's untimely passing the other day. She became something of an unattainable 'unrequited love', when I watched the show at a young age, and I'd no idea she was in poor health.

It's fitting that her 'old travelling companion' will be back on our screens this Easter weekend, so here's a couple of preview trailers for his imminent return -

But first, a little something from the previous series... - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvWYw0CnuSI

It never ceases to amaze me how totally ignorant and juvenile some YouTube commenters are, that take the time to rant irrationally over certain movies. There's plenty of dumb-asses out there in internet-land, it seems.

This is why I try to find decent 'trailer' uploads for my thread that have their 'comments disabled', if possible. This function isn't used often enough for my liking, unfortunately, lol.
