Could you please tell me what you think of this?
I’m still not sure… I’m not eagerly fond of the music in Return, so I’m trying to replace it here and here.
I’d like to have an opinion.
I tried to remove the original music with Audacity, but it was hard to keep other noises and voices.

I prefer the original music , although this is an interesting experiment and provides a new experience . That is just me though . I am interested in seeing/hearing how you incorporate the ending of this scene with the one that comes afterward in the space battle though .

So, first of all thank you for the suggestion about the glow effect. Unfortunately I work with Sony Vegas, but I’ve already changed and reduced the glow to make it more like PT and less like ST.
About the music… the Falcon engine noise helps. I changed the music right there and added a track from Rogue One for the space battle sequence.

Unusual <strong>Sequel Trilogy</strong> Radical Redux Ideas Thread

Grumpy Luke is giving a sense of logic as to why Luke would abandon the galaxy in shame (as the crawl and Han talked about).

Rose And Holdo were created because Finn and Poe didn’t have distinct or fleshed out personalities. They needed to be flawed and different to each other, and a plot showing their individual weaknesses needed to see them both fail, learn, and grow. This also is why the “useless” Canto Bight sequence was incorporated.

The Knights of Ren were absent because they were a one-line throwaway concept by Abrams, and Johnson didn’t want them to be useless fighters who were introduced and subsequently killed off. He created and used the Praetorian Guards instead. Abrams would later relegate the Knights of Ren to the same shallow goons, but with less impressive choreography.

Snoke was undeveloped and used only for Kylo’s motivation and growth, so Johnson continued along that path. Since Kylo was the primary antagonist of the trilogy, Johnson allowed him to take that role more directly while still giving him a character arc.

Johnson subverted expectations because the only film preceding was a retread of the plot of the original Star Wars, but with a bigger Death Star. The one thing Abrams changed from the original Star Wars’ formula was giving the film a cliffhanger ending. This cliffhanger got in the way of two of the three main Characters having an arc. Kylo’s choice to kill Han and commit to the Dark Side completes his arc and quest in the film. Rey is still searching for belonging, and Finn is knocked out before he can take any personal action in the plot. Poe wasn’t meant to be a protagonist, and originally was set to die in the TIE crash. Because of this, Poe had no arc. TLJ had to give all of these characters arcs to compensate, and retreading past films or giving the obvious answers to shallow questions wouldn’t achieve that.

Thus, every major issue people have with The Last Jedi can be traced to choices made with The Force Awakens.

Applause.

Star Wars - Echo's der Vergangenheit (Echo's of the Past - a TROS Edit) (Released)
Time

The crawls looks too different from the original one.
The opening stars moving look cool, but I don’t like the fan film VaderVSKylo. No purpose at all in the story.
Plus, the majority of the changes were already done by someone.
Also… for people who don’t speak german (almost noone can here, I suppose), it’s not easy to get what’s being edited in dialogues.

Is it possible to add a second shuttle (with Chewie inside) that start behind Finn and moved to the right of the screen? Little smaller than the first one. So we can see on second viewing, that is starting a second shuttle and nobody see it.

IIFanEditor’s edit of TROS did that.
Here’s the link to his clip:https://vimeo.com/400221468
PW: fanedit

Thats not good, Rey can clearly see it. I mean Finn is showing with his hand to the left. And in this Scene must a second one moving on the Right side of him to the Right. So Rey only See the first Shuttle and will stops it. That looks better i think.

  1. As I said countless times, this was all a V1, not definitive.
  2. If Finn is pointing at that one, why should Rey think Chewie is inside the other transport?

Thank you 😉
The color corrections will all be fixed. The lightsaber glow… I’m not sure I’ll keep it. Probably I’ll reduce it a little bit.
About the shuttle scene. Yeah, that’s because I isolated dialogue. I’ll add some background noise. I still haven’t watched the final season of the Clone Wars. I’ll try add the ROTS music track in a more subtle way. Maybe just add the first part where there’s the slow crescendo…
Thank you again for the suggestions.

I think the Mustafar Minute could be set up by moving the Vader helmet scene to the very end of TLJ.
Kylo had just been tricked by Luke’s force projection, the Resistance escaped, and Rey shut the door of the Falcon on him, so he goes to Vader’s mask for some guidance - which is something he’s been doing since TFA.
When he touches the mask he sees Mustafar (use RO footage or other lava related footage), a brief snippet of a wayfinder and Exegol, throw in a Vader “join me” and a Palps “you will go to the Mustafar system” voiceover, and end the movie.

I remember reading that Mustafar’s background shots in ROTS were actual lava footage from Mount Etna. Surely there are some documentaries online which can be used, is one wants to be “spiritually cohesive”.

Episode IX: A New Order (<em>Alpha version released</em>)

Some thoughts after viewing the Alpha (posting here instead of PM so others who watch it can comment):

  • I don’t like Rey being called “the girl” in the opening crawl. Leia is not called “the woman,” Poe, Finn, and Kylo are not called “the boy,” and three movies into her own series Rey should be taken more seriously than that (though I’m sure you didn’t intentionally mean anything by it).
  • I like the reframing of the opening to be around the Sith Fleet prior to Palpatine’s reveal. I wasn’t sure it would work, but that’s not bad. One thing that needs changing during the Resistance discussion, which shouldn’t be too difficult I think, is Maz’s line. As Rey grabs the books to look up Exogol, Maz says “if we want to stop him, we must find Exogol.” That needs to be changed to “if we want to stop them,” since they’re now talking about a fleet, and not Palpatine or even Kylo.
  • Kylo having the helmet in the meeting doesn’t really work here. For one, having this be Kylo’s first appearance in the movie is odd in general, as the scene’s not really built like a character introduction. Second, he already has the helmet which he dramatically destroyed early in the last movie, and while Hux questions it, this being our first sight of it makes the helmet’s return feel like a weird gag. And third, the very next scene, in your version, has him fighting on a battlefield with no helmet, which makes no sense because the movie just brought attention to the fact that he has one again.
  • The galactic broadcast needs some restructuring, I think. From Palpatine’s smirk, we should cut (not wipe, since this is not really a new scene narratively-speaking) to an establishing shot of the planet Ajan Kloss as the message begins, which then cuts to the characters we know receiving the broadcast. Rose: “Listen… it’s on every frequency.” Then, now clear that this is an in-universe broadcast, we cut (not wipe) to other parts of the galaxy, during which we need to see civilians appearing to listen to the message, and not just zoomed out shots of planets and cities. Then end back on Kloss with our characters again. Also, it’s odd that the characters don’t really react to hearing Palpatine’s voice specifically, but you’ve already repurposed their discussion of Palpatine to be about the fleet, so I’m not quite sure what to do here.
  • The scene where Rey “kills” Chewie is too heavy-handed. We don’t need to see literally baby Rey do the deed and hear “You killed your parents,” which leaves nothing for the audience to think about and distracts from the fact that Chewbacca (who we care about way more than Rey’s parents) may have just been killed. Simply having some small quick cuts to child Rey and the old ship, maybe with some small dark side element (not lightning, we’re about to see that anyway), should be enough to get the audience thinking of the implications, but don’t take focus away from the dramatic scene that’s actually happening in the present.
  • Threepio speaking in a foreign language when Babu is hacking doesn’t really make sense. The whole reason they brought him to Kijimi is because they don’t know the language and need him to translate for them. In this version, the characters never actually hear the information they need, but head off to the correct location anyway.
  • I know the recoloring is a work in progress, but Palpatine’s life force drain is too green, especially if everything else is going to be gray. I get that you want it to be like the magicks from extended universe material, but the fact that Palpatine doesn’t use green in any other scene (in this or any previous movie) just makes it more confusing.
  • Both of Anakin’s ghost appearances seem out of place. I know people really wanted his ghost in this movie and don’t like Palpatine returning after the Chosen One prophecy is completed, but without having spoken with Rey earlier in the movie/series (directly, not just through the voices at the end), his appearance here is not justified by the story. His voiceline of “restore the balance, as I did” is all that’s needed to address the prophecy. If you were going to put multiple Jedi ghosts during the Father-Son Kamehameha, not just Anakin by himself, that would work with what’s happening in the scene, but his ghost shouldn’t appear at all on Tatooine because Rey does not know this person (which is also why I dislike Hayden in RotJ, since he looks nothing at all like the man Luke met).

Wow! That was some rough criticism, but as I said, this is not at all a definitive version.
Just a couple of things. Don’t hint at some disprespect towards a character. I called Rey by her name (YOUNG REY) in the crawl, and LATER I called her “the girl”. How should I name her? I don’t get what problem there is with this. I don’t get how that is not serious.
About Maz… I meant that she was referring to Kylo, because the Resistance knows that Kylo is searching for the Imperial fleet.
Kylo’s helmet. Remember that we need to work with what we have. If we want to place the Palpatine reveal for later, Kylo not having the helmet is something that will always happen, because in that scene Kylo doesn’t have his helmet rebuilt yet. So either you keep that scene as the opening, or accept that he doesn’t have the helmet. Also, it’s difficult to place the Exegol scene later, because on Pasaana Kylo speaks to Rey about Palpatine, so the revelation of him being alive must have already happened here.
The broadcast. Yes, I agree with the restructuring. But again, about the reactions. We must work with what we have.
About the flashbacks scene. Differently from you, I like how that came out. I prefer a visual revelation than some exposition made later by Kylo. The scene on Pasaana matches the flashback, and just after the ship blows, Rey screams “Chewie!!!”, so I don’t think the flashbacks ruin the emotional response.
About Palpatine’s green. Maybe that’s too much, but I’ll keep the green color. The fact that he never used that before means nothing. In Episode VI he used Force lightning, something that we never saw before, but noone replied: “Oh, that’s not cool, we’ve never seen that before”.
About Anakin. As I said many many times, I stopped working on that when I heard about jonh making his own version.

I’ll keep the major ideas here. I’ll just re-work them because of quick execution in this version.

Episode IX: A New Order (<em>Alpha version released</em>)
Time

Aaaaand, it’s released!

Again, this is just an Alpha version. MP4 conversion (needed for Sony Vegas) gave me some problems, so I’ll eventually remake all of this from scratch, and I’ll add all the cool clips other wonderful editors are making.
Don’t mind the Anakin’s force ghost. I stopped working on that when I heard that jonh was going to make the whole scene.

Still, I think there are some cool ideas here and there, and some nice music additions.
Major changes:

  1. Rey killed her parents and forgot about it
  2. Exegol is grey-ish
  3. Palpatine reveal not in crawl, he appears later.
  4. Opening revolves around a rumour of an old Imperial fleet in the Unknown regions.
  5. Palpatine’s message heard while we see shots from Coruscant, Yavin IV and Ajan Kloss.
This is not my best edit, not at all. But now I can go back and finish my ROTJ, which is coming out even better than anticipated 😉

PM me for links if interested

Episode IX: A New Order (<em>Alpha version released</em>)

Final rendering has started.
I’ll release this the way it is now. I see there are more and more cool ideas about TROS around here. I love what snooker made for the ending with the Falcon, and I worship jonh for his Force ghosts.
I’ll eventually make a V2 with all those additions.
But now I just want this to be finished. In a couple of days, maybe tomorrow, it will be out. There are some video and audio issues, but I suggest you consider this edit as “some ideas” put here and there.

This edit helps cement the idea that these people are a family now, instead of Rey being completely alone on a desert planet at the end. Her friends are there waiting for her : )

It also helps explain why BB-8 is there, he’s just a curious little friend : )

This is sooooo good!
