Okay guys, we get it lol. The Emperor in TROS didn’t work for you.
I don’t think this is relevant in a discussion for this fanedit anymore, the transfer stuff is going to remain in this edit.

I’m not saying that. The idea of him always wanting apprentices in order to have a potential new body diminishes his role, IMHO. But on the other hand I like it because it gives a sense of closure on all his immortality talking and on the opera scene in ROTS.
But fair enough, back on topic.

What I took out of RoS which I really liked the idea of was how it explained Palpatines “stike me down” lines both in RoS and return of the jedi. I like to think that meant that if Luke struck him down in return of the jedi with anger he would of possessed Luke the same way Rey would of been possessed if she stuck him down in RoS through the sith ritual.

This is actually something I don’t like about TRoS. The literal nature of a possible spirit transfer being the real motivation behind one of the crucial moments of the original trilogy cheapens the moral implications for me. In Return of the Jedi, I always thought Palpatine was saying that anger and hatred were corrupting and destructive forces, and that even if Palpatine were to die, he still would have won by corrupting Luke. I realize that doesn’t literally make a ton of sense given Palpatine’s ambition and ruling an empire, but it makes sense in the context of the morality tale that the original trilogy was. This added motivation means there’s a reason for Luke to resist temptation other than showing poise and maturity in the face of evil.

I’m totally with you.
To me Palpatine was always such a great character because he was a fanatic of the Dark Side. He was strong, yes, but he wanted an apprentice capable of surpassing him. Even in the prequels, when Anakin finds out that he’s Sidious, he smiles at Anakin becoming angry. Later, during the fight with Yoda, he’s excited because Anakin will become more powerful than him. He knows that he could be killed, and he knows that this act would strengthen the Dark Side.
Right now… he’s just a Dragon Ball villain. A Cell. Or a Majin Bu. I’ll steal your body so that I can live forever. (On the other hand we could say that in the prequels he’s obsessed with immortality, and that in ROTJ he clearly mistrusts Vader, and so he probably should have a contingency plan about that, being the mastermind that he is)

This has some pretty ambitious stuff! I’m pretty new to watching fan edits and I’ve only watched a handful of them that attempt to add their own effects and completely unique shots so this was a treat for me to see what the community is capable of.

I am personally working on an RotJ cut without Boba so I took special interest in how he was masked. I have personally been cropping but there are a couple shots where I think the cropped image loses focus on the speaking character. These masks are impressive. I’m sure most people just watching don’t even notice the edit. I was watching like a hawk of course and it’s almost like the space behind Jabba is haunted by a ghost 😃 It’s actually kinda cool when you are looking for it.

Special callout to the added establishing shot on Tattooine and the edit of the C3P0 and R2 shot that makes Jabba’s palace look close.

I do think the regrading of Endor definitely gave it a very alien feel so it matches the described intent rather well. That coupled with trimming some of the over the top “humor” and “cuteness” of the Endor scenes made this feel way different than the original in a good way.

All in all, nice work!

Sooooo, thank you so much man! About the Boba masking… there’s a closeup of Jabba (with Boba behind him) where the camera moves just a bit, while the mask doesn’t, and I noticed it from the start… But I said “Well, surely other faneditors would notice, but the average viewer would certainly not”, and considering I didn’t know how to fix it I left it the way it was 😄
Thank you again, I’m glad you enjoyed it

The Prequel Trilogy Revised - concept trailers released (WIP)

Taking my time and going a lil slow but heres an update on one shot (Looks cooler in video with fires glowing and flickering on the right, and shifting light rays through the fog and smoke.) Since i have acquired new tools, it allows me to go more dramatic with the changes i can do. Also means having to completely redo some scenes, but this is ok because it allows me to fix other things and just generally improve the over all quality. Everything is getting faster and easier to manipulate though, so all in all good.

This is a comparison between the original and revised. Revised adding cracks, haze, smoke, depth of field to the buildings past the arches, light wraps, shadows from clouds and such, etc. The idea is the city just got bombed, theres fires and smoke everywhere, and the sun light is not able to cut through as well. A new sky was included to fit the scene. Buildings split into 3 layers foreground, mid, back etc.

I can’t express how much I love this edit. Getting better and better.

Nice work! The extended explosion shots are great, and it’s a big improvement over your previous version. The only problem I really have is that in one of the shots, you can clearly see Japan getting caught in the explosion. Maybe you could flip the shot, or find some other shot that’s less recognizably Earth?

I didn’t notice that. I’ll flip the shot, because that’s the only acceptable sequence I found.

You mean in the Alderaan scene?
I changed the “wall” color a little bit. In the first edit I turned Naboo into Alderaan (even in the prequels, and for Alderaan explosion I added a shot of Naboo), but for this V2 I’ll go back to having two different planets.
Nontheless I think I’ll re-add the short shots from the documentary to make the explosion more dramatic. Also, if possible, I’ll take the Alderaan shot from Episode III and work on it to make it look like it’s going to blow up.

EDIT: Anyway as soon as I finish the scene I’ll upload it. Not now, my little dog is probably going to… you know, pass on to a better life.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Redux Ideas thread

Welp, that totally puts that whole train of speculation to bed.

To be fair, I suppose we do have to acknowledge that Vader-as-father only came in an early ESB script, and Leia-as-sister only existed as an idea for ROTJ, so Star Wars does kind of have this ‘laying the tracks before the train’ approach.

But still, I don’t think that justifies this lack of oversight and planning for what should have been a cohesive trilogy from the start.

EU media will gradually embed Palpatine-as-grandfather in the canon more solidly, but personally I’ll always prefer Rey Nobody, especially knowing how little it mattered to the production team.

Return of the Jedi Renewed (released)

Remember, I’m not English native speaker. It’s always possible that I’m not clear.
I wanted to have a saga that is watchable in episodic order, meaning that the two main plot twists (Darth Vader being Luke’s father and Leia being Luke’s sister) are not stated in Episode III.
In order to make this, we don’t see Palpatine retreiving Anakin on Mustafar. And in Episodes IV and V, noone says that Vader was Obi Wan’s apprentice.

But Return of the Jedi doesn’t require heavy plot changes, because we resolve those two twists in the first act of the movie. So… my ROTJ edit can actually be watched without watching any previous edit. It could work as a single Episode VI edit. That’s all.
